The latest Performance Pay Tracking Period began on March 1. We are striving to meet the Patient Satisfaction goal of a ≥ 50% rating (experience as “Excellent”). In order to create a comfortable margin of performance, while continuing to improve the patient experience, we would like to share some feedback from recent patient focus groups. The two areas that patients value the most are: 1. Communication from the treating crew: “Explain treatment options and procedures” “Provide reassurance and compassionate communication with the patient” 2. Setting clear expectations: “Set transport length expectation” “Set a triage level expectation before arriving at the hospital”

FLAT STANLEY COMES TO MEDIC Flat Stanley is quite the traveler journeying to all fifty US states and Canada. Recently he has been seen canoodling with the likes of Clint Eastwood, Jackie Chan and Kim Kardashian. Thanks to Greyson Earwood (son of Mariann Earwood), who is a part of the Flat Stanley program, Flat Stanley visited P100 a few weeks ago. During his stay with the Earwoods, Flat also traveled to the beaches of Charlston, S.C.
Flat Stanley is actually much more enriching. Teachers call the Flat Stanley program an “authentic” literacy project that inspires kids to write about their own passion and excitement for the project. Participants are also given the freedom to write about many things through the rubric of the Flat Stanley character.
One of the project’s best features is that students don’t have to wonder where to begin or what to write about. The sender and the recipient already have a mutual friend: Flat Flat Stanley Project Stanley. Writing and learning becomes easier, The basic principle of The Flat Stanley Project flows naturally, and tends to be more creative. is to connect children, students and classrooms with other children and classrooms For more information on the Flat Stanley proparticipating in the project. Children send gram, visit flatstanley.com their “flat” visitors through the mail, digitally or with the Flat Stanley app. Kids then talk, track, IT’S NOT BRAGGING IF IT’S TRUE. Email your stoand write about their flat character’s journey ries and photos to PR@medic911.com. and adventures. Similar to a pen-pal activity,

Unplug from the dangers of technology Did you know that too much screen time can hurt your health? Nearly 60% of Americans use digital devices for five or more hours per day, and 70% of Americans use two or more devices at one time.1 It can all add up to trouble for your health. From eyestrain and headaches to a stiff neck and sore thumbs, technology can take a toll on your body. Here are a few tips to avoid letting your gadgets get the best of you.
Desktop or laptop computer Hunching over a computer monitor for extended periods can result in eye and vision problems, like eyestrain, blurred vision and dry eyes. It can also cause headaches, and neck and shoulder pain. What to do? 1. Set up your workstation properly. Adjust your chair, monitor and keyboard for your height and optimal viewing distance. 2. Reduce glare. Adjust your monitor to avoid glare from windows or overhead lighting. 3. Practice good posture. Don’t hunch your shoulders or cradle a phone in your neck while typing. 4. Take regular breaks. Try the 20-20-20 rule. Take a 20-second break every 20 minutes to focus your eyes on an object at least 20 feet away.
Smartphone or tablet Frequent use can lead to throbbing hand, finger and thumb pain. It can also cause text neck, an injury that’s caused by constantly looking down at your device.

What to do? 1. Raise up your device. Keep devices at a comfortable distance just below eye level to avoid putting pressure on your neck. 2. Stretch it out. Relieve muscle tightness by looking up and arching your upper back. 3. Flex your fingers. Try these exercises (hold each position for 5 to 10 seconds and repeat 10 times). Extend and flex wrists forward and backward Rotate forearms so palms face up and then down Make a fist, then spread your fingers out

Video gaming Too much video gaming can lead to repetitive stress injuries in your wrist, hand and thumb that can make it difficult to grasp objects. It can also cause headaches and eyestrain, back pain and sleep disturbances. What to do? 1. Set time limits. Take a break every 30 minutes to get up and move around. 2. Stop playing if you’re experiencing pain in your hands or thumbs. 3. Unplug for a good night’s sleep. Turn off video games at least one hour before bedtime.
