The latest Performance Pay Tracking Period began on March 1. We are striving to meet the Patient Satisfaction goal of a ≥ 50% rating (experience as “Excellent”). In order to create a comfortable margin of performance, while continuing to improve the patient experience, we would like to share some feedback from recent patient focus groups. The two areas that patients value the most are: 1. Communication from the treating crew: “Explain treatment options and procedures” “Provide reassurance and compassionate communication with the patient” 2. Setting clear expectations: “Set transport length expectation” “Set a triage level expectation before arriving at the hospital”

WHY WE RELAY Cancer has touched many of us in some way. So Medic decided to fight back by raising funds and walking in our local American Cancer Society Relay For Life event. In partnership with Mecklenburg County, let’s take action to help eliminate cancer as a major health problem. At the Relay event, we will take turns walking around the track to raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society in their lifesaving mission. Bring the family! Events for children, music, games and foodtrucks are just a few of the events scheduled for this year’s event. Please join our team or make a donation. Saving lives from cancer starts one team, one participant, one dollar at a time.

For their commitment to excellence at Medic and in the community, please congratulate Medic’s 2017 Stars of LIfe recipients: SHERRI STEELE. Sherri Steele works in Medic’s Billing Services department and is assigned to the Veterans Administration (VA) inventory. Working VA inventory is very tedious and time consuming. According to Sherri’s supervisor, “Sherri should get combat pay for dealing with the most challenging patients and the VA”. Yet, Sherri always goes above and beyond to get a claim paid. She helps Medic patients get their VA claims paid by working with the local hospital medical records departments. Working for Medic for five years and nominated by her department manager, Sherri demonstrates many of Medic’s core values including putting the patient first. She takes the extra steps to educate our patients about their benefits. Sherri deserves to be recognized as a Star of Life because she helps patients in a different way. However different her work may be, it is still important to the patient’s overall well-being. TIFFANY JOHNSON With seven star of life employee nominations, making Tiffany Johnson a 2017 Star of Life awardee was a no brainer. As a Paramedic Crew Chief, Tiffany exemplifies Medic’s mission, “saving a life, to a hand” – both on and off duty. She treats each patient like a family member; with respect and dignity, no matter the nature of the call. Former patients have asked of her because of the excellent care they received from Tiffany. Working for Medic for 17 years, EMS work is more than a job to Tiffany. She believes EMS work is her calling. A mentor to many, her coworker noted, “She has no problem sharing her knowledge and taking time out to help you strengthen your skills to be a better medic”. She will help you in a time of need and handles difficult situations with remarkable patience and admirable tact. Tiffany’s caring spirit doesn’t stop on the ambulance as her service goes beyond Medic. In her off duty time, she serves with a volunteer group of women who have adopted Hunter Woods Nursing Home. RYAN LOWE Ryan Lowe currently serves as a Medic Field Training Officer. As noted by his supervisor, “This is a position he excels at”. Ryan is an exceptional Paramedic whose commitment to professionalism and excellence in medical care is ideally suited to help develop our new employees. A fellow coworker stated that Ryan is “The ideal FTO due to his professionalism and thoroughness.” For 21 years, Ryan has worked at Medic. He takes pride in all that he does and represents the Agency in a positive manner. Similar to Medic’s Purpose Statement, Ryan is “prepared to respond in our community when and where our patients need us”. Supporting Medic’s mission everyday by being2014 an outSEPTEMBER standing role model for all those he trains and works with. Earning the respect of all that he works with, it’s not just Ryan’s professionalism that makes him deserving of this award. Ryan’s commitment and devotion to his family and church are a shining example for all of us to follow.
