“Welcome to Medic 102. I know we typically stand here and tell you how things are done at Medic. But today, we’ll veer off the treaded path”, Doc Studnek says, as he leans against the white board. “Something happened to me and I thought it would be a great tie-in”… The other day, I was out with the family. Funny enough, I was participating in the one sport ALL MEN LOVE: shopping. While we were strategizing summer clothing needs and determining players’ salary caps when it came to shoes, my young padawan taps me on the arm and says, “Pops, we should think about purchasing a new computer.”
would buying a new computer be an improvement over the one we currently have? This is very similar to a question we ask ourselves when we charter a project, at Medic. If we are going to embark in a process to change something, we should be very clear about what results that change will yield. Much like my rejection of “it’s just old” argument, results should be clear and measurable. Will the computer have a faster processing speed? Will it be able to load web pages quicker? Of course it will. However, the best type of measurement demonstrates process performance BEFORE and AFTER said change. That way, you can see if your improvement actually puts you in a better place, over time.
Now, as an improvement minded person of the family (sort of like Darth Vader and Luke’s dramatic scene in Each charter that’s developed at Medic, needs to have movie six), I replied, “Now why would we want to go at least one outcome that is defined, measurable, can be and do that?” collected and reported. If we cannot define the outcome, how we will know that said change is an improvement? My young padawan shares, “Because our current com- And MAYBE – something we shouldn’t have started in puter is old, dad.” the first place. And for my inquisitive friends, like young Jeff... You As we’re walking around the ‘sports arena’, I try and recall when we bought our current computer.... might want to know: we did not buy a new computer, in the end. I did, however, - It couldn’t have been that long ago. take the kids to Chick-Fil-A. It was - It could not have been more than a few years ago. sufficient consolation. - Frankly, the kids are able to watch YouTube videos and look at funny cat pictures just fine. CLASS DISMISSED! Raising his hand, Jeff, the Administration major asks, “Why don’t you put some more memory in that dinosaur, Doc?” “Because I like OLD dinosaurs, Jeff,” Doc Studnek remarks… So, the “it’s old” argument wasn’t selling me on the need for change. What I really wanted to know was: how

As previously noted, the latest Performance Pay Tracking Period began on March1st. We are striving to meet the Patient Satisfaction goal of a ≥ 68% rating (experience as “Excellent”). In order to create a comfortable margin of performance, while continuing to improve the patient experience, we would like to share some feedback from recent patient focus groups. The two areas that patients value the most are: 1. Communication from the treating crew: “Explain treatment options and procedures” “Provide reassurance and compassionate communication with the patient” 2. Setting clear expectations: “Set transport length expectation” “Set a triage level expectation before arriving at the hospital”

Easter is this Sunday. With our busy schedules, sometimes, we need a little inspiration to make family dinner memorable. Here’s a recipe that may help you create an (easy) impressive Easter gathering. For other easy and impressive Easter dishes, visit vikalinka. com
POTATOES A LA RUSSE Ingredients: Potatoes, 4-5 medium Onion, 1 medium Mushrooms, 1/2 cup Parsley, 4-5 sprigs Creme Fraiche or Sour Cream Butter, 3 tbsp. Salt and Pepper Cheese, Parmesan or Pecorino Preheat your oven to 350F/180C. Butter an oven proof dish and set aside. Heat your non-stick frying pan and melt a tablespoon of butter into it. I can already predict that people will want to substitute butter with oil or margarine and I am going to stop you in your tracks. Don’t do it! Butter is where your flavour comes from. Don’t mess with perfection! Slice you potatoes (not too thin) and fry them in batches until golden, season with salt and pepper. Take them off the heat once they are nicely colored even if they are still hard on the inside, we will bake them later till doneness. Now slice the mushrooms and fry them in the same pan over a medium heat adding more butter and seasoning them with salt and pepper. Chop up your parsley and sprinkle all over mushrooms and cook 2-3 min. longer until all the liquid from the mushrooms evaporates. Set aside. Slice the onions and fry them as well. Now all of your ingredients are ready for layering.

The layering of this dish is very similar to lasagne, so I am confident you will master it. First arrange your slices of potatoes on the bottom of your dish and scatter onions on top of them.

Please take a few minutes and review this CMC University request: If the Triage Nurse at CMC University directs your patient(s) to Triage, please take the patient to the Registration Line. While assisting your patient(s), please note the following: 1. You DO NOT have to stay with the patient. 2. Giving a report to the Triage Nurse DOES NOT put the patient in the system. 3. Placing a patient, who is not registered in a chair at Triage, will delay their time for treatment. 4. Any immediate patient concerns should be addressed to the Triage Nurse. For more information, please contact Bob Francis at bobf@medic911.com or 704-943-6251.
