CEO'S REVIEW In 2019, the Port of Rauma handled 5.83 million tonnes of cargo and 261,000 container units (TEU). Total traffic was at the same level as in 2018, and the decline in container traffic was less than 1%. Of total port traffic, exports accounted for 4.06 million tonnes (-2.1%), imports for 1.7 million tonnes (+5.8%) and domestic traffic for 0.08 million tonnes. The number of ship calls was 1,087, which was 71 less than in 2018. The company implemented an operational efficiency programme, which resulted in a reduction in the number of managers, a reorganisation of duties, and the transfer of port and vessel services to a new subsidiary (Botnia Port Service Ltd) in June 2019.

INVESTMENTS In 2019, phases 2 and 3 of the expansion of the new fields in Petäjäs were completed, and the next phase in the major investment programme began as the expansion of the Petäjäs 4 area was launched. The total value of this investment is approximately 18.5 million euros. Other investments in the port were very small, mainly relating to the renovation of quays and railways. In 2019, approximately 15.8 million euros were invested in the projects (6.1 M€ in 2018).

During the year 2019, 261,000 container units (TEU) were shipped through the Port of Rauma.

TRAFFIC In 2019, the overall traffic at the Port of Rauma remained at the same level as in the previous year. The total tonnage of cargo traffic was 5.83 million tonnes. 261,000 container units (TEU) were shipped through the port, and the weight of containerised cargo totalled 2.1 million tonnes. Of total port traffic, exports accounted for 4.06 million tonnes, imports for 1.7 million tonnes and domestic traffic for 0.08 million tonnes. The export of pulp, sawn timber, parcelled goods and grains showed a positive growth. In import traffic, significant growth was seen in raw wood and parcelled goods. The most significant drops were in paper and kaolin exports and in the imports of pulp and oil products. In 2019, the Port of Rauma welcomed new large vessels which entered the port through the recently deepened 12-metre fairway. A total of 1,087 vessels called at the port in 2019, and their total capacity was 4.8 million net tonnes.

MARKETING HIGHLIGHTS 2019 21–23 May 2019 BreakBulk Europe The Port of Rauma and Euroports Rauma Oy shared a stand at the Breakbulk Europe trade fair in Bremen. Breakbulk Europe is the world's largest event for the project cargo and breakbulk industry. Over 600 exhibitors and nearly 10,000 visitors attended the fair.
4–7 June 2019 Transport Logistic The Port of Rauma and Euroports Rauma Oy also shared a stand at the Transport Logistic trade fair. Transport Logistic is the largest logistics fair in the world. 2,374 exhibitors from 63 countries and approximately 64,000 visitors attended the event. The Port of Rauma’s and Euroports’ stand also attracted a lot of visitors.

OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH The Port of Rauma has maintained an outstanding safety level, which is reflected in the number of accident-free work days. On December 31, 2019, the last day of the year, the company reached a total of 2,352 consecutive accident-free days.

ENVIRONMENT In 2007, the port operations were granted an environmental permit that is valid indefinitely and guides the actions of Port of Rauma Ltd, its leaseholders and the businesses operating in the port area. The inspection process for the environmental permit’s permit requirements begun in 2014 and obtained legal validity in 2018. The Port of Rauma participates in water and fish monitoring in the sea area off the coast of Rauma using methods approved by the ELY Centre for Southwest Finland. In addition, the impact of the Petäjäs expansion projects on waters will be monitored in accordance with a separate monitoring programme. The process of replacing the lighting in the quay and field areas with LED lights continued. Energy efficiency was also improved by adding a new temperature control system in the port office.
