WILL TAYLOR HONOURED
■ The memory of Ashwood identity of Will Taylor has been honoured, local MLA Matt Fregon has told State Parliament. “I rise today to acknowledge the inaugural Will Taylor Memorial Cup. Will Taylor lost his life last year, as we all know, in a senseless tragedy in our district of Ashwood, but on Saturday, February 8, his family and the local clubs that he played for came together for an event that brought our community together to celebrate his life and honour and remember his legacy and his involvement with community sport,” said Mr Fregon. “Will was passionate about soccer, playing with both the Ashburton United Soccer Club and the Mount Waverley City Soccer Club. “This event was a fitting tribute to his memory, showcasing the spirit of the game he loved and the incredible impact he had on those around him. It not only celebrated Will’s love for the game but also raised crucial funds for Team Sports 4 All, who help to support children from financially disadvantaged backgrounds .”

■ A petition about Maroondah Hospital was presented last week to State Parliament by Croydon MLA David Hodgett. The 151-signature petition shows community support for the State Government to rebuild Maroondah Hospital to address its dated infrastructure and inadequate facilities. “Maroondah Hospital is a very busy hospital, that is under extreme pressure to cater to patients from all over the Eastern Suburbs,” said the petition. “They lack the up-to-date facilities, which have been promised over the past two election periods by the Victorian Government and deserve to be supported completely.” The petition calls on the Victorian Government to fulfill their election promises of 2018 and 2022, and “finally deliver on the $1.05 billion promise given to our community, by rebuilding Maroondah Hospital from the ground up. Funding needs to be allocated in the 2025-26 State Budget so that the rebuild can start soon.”
