● Billy Baxter, Andy Bellairs, Geoff Richardson, Greg Champion, ‘Torch McGee, Ian Cover. ■ Each of the current day Coodabeen Champions radio team has been awarded the medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. Billy Baxter, Andrew Bellairs, Jeff Richardson, Greg Champion, Jeffrey ‘Torch’ McGee and Ian Cover have each been cited for the performing arts, and to radio. Their weekly show is currently heard on Fridays on Mornington Peninsula radio station 3MP, and the ACE Radio Network. The ‘troupe’ were first heard on Saturday mornings on Melbourne station 3RRR in the early 1980s, alongside shows such as Lawyers, Guns and Money co-hosted by ‘Ross Stevenson’ (Ross Campbell) and Punter-ToPunter. Jeff Richardson and Simon Whelan came up with the concept for thr show in 1981, and Billy Baxter provided the name.
