■ The State Government is set to sell the Lake Mountain Resort, near Marysville. An expressions of interest campaign is slated to start in this month, with no price indicated so far, but the government is said to be open to a 99-year-lease arrangement . The campaign will run until January, despite summer generally being considered one of the more challenging times to list alpine property. Murrindindi Shire Mayor Cr Damien Gallagher expressed disappointment. He had wri tten to Environment and Sport Minister Steve Dimopoulos, seeking a commitment to prioritise Lake Mountain in future development plans. with a view to realising the untapped potential for economic growth and community enrichment: “It’s certainly disappointing that Council and the Marysville community have not been engaged as a critical stakeholder in the deliberations to date. Council will be continuing to seek clarification,” Cr Gallagher said.

● Intersection works at Princes Fwy

■ Vew traffic light intersections on both sides of the Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Rd interchange at the Princes Fwy are now open to traffic. This completes a busy spring campaign of works on stage 1 of the Pakenham Roads Upgrade. Drivers can look forward to a faster and less congested commute with the traffic lights replacing the former roundabouts at the interchange, improving traffic flow and reducing queuing. New lanes are in place for people travelling directly to the Melbourne CBD and Gippsland, with dedicated turning lanes linking into each of the widened ramps at Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Rd. The opening of the new intersections also comes with new lanes on Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Rd, with a new bridge now spanning the Princes Freeway alongside the existing bridge. Major construction is expected to start in early 2025 and be completed in early 2027.

● Cindy McLeish, Eildon MLA ■ Evelyn MLA Cindy McLeish said she took pleasure in launching the publication of Auti-Magination: Stories of Autistic Writers in the Yarra Ranges. “The book is the result of a series of workshops facilitated by Sandra Thom-Jones on creative writing for those living with autism, and what a hidden pool of creative talent,” Ms McLeish said. “Sandra too is autistic, clever and wonderfully talented. She had the idea of collecting and publishing creative pieces from autistic writers to develop and show their boundless creative levels. “ I loved reading of Victoria’s wild boys, Elliot’s letter to a random teacher, Lucy’s ugly butterfly that is a bit different, Lincoln’s take on Lady Luck, Jos’s post-migration family story, Matthew and his dragon and Mitchell’s sorcerers and sorceresses. “Well done to writers Matthew Ball, Mitchell Cottom, Elliot Krizay, Lucy Krizay, Lincoln Thom-Jones, Victoria Rose and Jos van der Sman,” Ms McLeish said.

Smoke and mirrors

■ Melina Bath, Eastern Victoria MLC, has accused the Allan Labor State Government of a ‘smoke and mirrors’ approach to State Forests. “When the minister states that there will be no large-scale change in land tenure inside the taskforce area, that is correct. That is East Gippsland and north-east Victoria, but it does not mean the Central Highlands. “Adding another 350,000 hectares, including in areas in my electorate – Walhalla, Noojee – and then up to Buxton, Eildon, Healesville , Kinglake and Marysville – this great forest national park is about restricting traditional pursuits,” Ms Bath told the Legislative Council.
