Local News Burglary arrest
■ Police arrested two men, following an alleged aggravated burglary, in South Yarra late Monday night last week (Nov. 18). It is alleged that two offenders, armed with a crowbar, gained access to a home on Balmoral St about 10.45pm. Responding quickly, Prahran Police moved in and arrested two males inside the address about 10.50pm. Residents home at the time were not injured. A 36-year-old Hamilton man and a 38year-old Altona North are expected to be charged with aggravated burglary.
Rescue at Port
■ A co-ordinated emergency service response helped to successfully rescue children after their sailing boats capsized in strong winds at Port Melbourne. More than 60 people, mainly children were participating in a regatta and set sail in more than 40 boats from Williamstown when strong winds upturned their vessels, leaving the sailors in rough waters. Police were called to assist with the rescue of the children stranded in shipping channel waters between Williamstown and Port Melbourne just after 11.15am on Sunday, November 17. The shipping channel was promptly closed while Police Air Wing and Water Police officers worked together with Life Saving Victoria rescue chopper, their jet skis and St Kilda coast guard on a ground and water rescue. The children, who were all wearing lifejackets were bought safely back to land.

■ Cr Hanna El Mouallem has been elected 2024-25 Mayor of Bayside. Cr Debbie Taylor-Haynes was elected Deputy Mayor. Cr Georgina Oxley has been elected as Kingston Mayor. Chris Howe is Deputy. Cr Melina Sehr is Mayor at Stonnington. Tom Humphries is Deputy. Cr Cr Louise Crawford was elected Port Phillip Council Mayor. Cr Bryan Mears is Deputy Mayor.
Danger at Half Moon Bay ■ Three men have been arrested after a jet ski was ridden dangerously close to swimmers at Half Moon Bay. Police from the Public Order Response Team and Moorabbin Police were patrolling at about 3pm on Saturday, November 16, when they saw a jet ski being ridden close to swimmers. Police will allege the rider was speeding in a no boating zone, narrowly missing multiple
people in the water. Three men were later arrested at a nearby boat ramp where it is alleged one of the men assaulted a police officer. A 21-year-old man from Craigieburn will be charged on summons with conduct endangering life. A 24-year-old man from Hadfield will be charged on summons with assaulting police. A 22-year-old man from Fawkner will be charged with hindering police
2 MEN CHARGED OVER ISLA’S DEATH St Kilda man, 53, accused of murder ■ Detectives from the Missing Persons Squad have located what are believed to be human remains as part of their investigation into the suspicious disappearance of Brunswick woman Isla Bell. With the assistance of Merri-bek Crime Investigation Unit detectives and Major Crime Scene Unit personnel, the remains were located in Dandenong on Tuesday evening last week (Nov. 19). Isla, 19, was last seen leaving her home address about 6pm on October 4. Detectives from the Missing Persons Squad arrested three men after executing search warrants at two properties in Bentleigh East and Mulgrave. A 53-year-old St Kilda man has been since been charged with murder, while a 57-year-old Hampton man has been charged with assist offender (murder). They were to appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court. A 63-year-old Mulgrave man was released
● Isla Bell of Brunswick pending further enquiries. The Missing Persons Squad formally took over the investigation in late October. Isla’s family have been notified and police will ensure a number of support services are in place.
DRUGS RAID AT EAST BRIGHTON ■ Caulfield Divisional Response Unit officers have charged a man and a woman after allegedly seizing drugs and weapons from a property in East Brighton last Thursday (Nov. 21) Investigators attended the Centre Rd property to execute a search warrant just before 7am. It is alleged a man and a woman were attempting to dispose of a quantity of drugs when police forced entry into the premises. Police arrested the duo and allegedly seized over 1kg of GHB, along with a quantity of methylamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, and cannabis. Officers also allegedly seized an extendable baton, knives, and over $2000 worth of cash. A 40-year-old East Brighton man has been charged with traffick GHB, traffick methylamphetamine, trafficking cannabis, traffick heroin, traffick MDMA, possess prohibited weapons and proceeds of crime. He was bailed to appear at the Moorabbin Magistrates Court on February 4. A 28-year-old St Kilda woman was charged with possess cannabis, possess GHB and fail to answer bail. She was remanded to appear at the Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on November 21.

■ A Glen Eira Council meeting was due to be held at 7pm last night (Tue., Nov. 26) to elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor. A similar meeting was due to have been held at Boroondara on Monday (Nov. 25).
