Local News Council writes to 4000 on breach
■ Bayside Council written to inform some customers that their data was subject to a cyber incident involving OracleCMS, the supplier of telephone customer service for the Council’s waste and out-of-hours support. “The leaked data was limited to customer names, addresses and preferred contact methods (phone/email),” said a Council representative. “We have been assured that the information breached would not pose any direct risks to our customers, although we advise customers to be wary of providing additional details if they receive unsolicited calls, or click links in emails, text messages or other digital communications. “All impacted customers are advised to speak to data breach specialists IDCare for advice and support regarding the incident. “Advice from IDCare is at no cost, and they can be reached via the following ways, quoting the referral code CMSVGBCC: Phone 1800 595 160. “Bayside City Council is committed to the highest levels of data security and privacy. None of our internal systems were involved in the breach,” the Council said in a media statement.
Race for Lord Mayor’s job ■ Arron Wood, who was Deputy Lord Mayor of the City of Melbourne four years ago, is contesting the top position at October’s municipal elections. He is rumoured to have teamed with entrepreneur Erin Deering. Wood was previously Deputy to disgraced Lord Mayor Robert Doyle.

Fire at Centre
■ There was a fire at the Clifton Hill Recycling Centre last Wednesday morning, July 24. Yarra City Council said: “We would like to reassure residents that the fire was brought under control quickly and no there is no risk to community safety. “The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is being investigated.” The recycling centre reopened for normal operation on the next day, Thursday (July 25). “We thank the community for their patience and understanding,” a Yarra Council representative said.

■ Boroondara Council appears pleased with the results of this year’s Customer Satisfaction Survey, just released. “We are pleased to share that we have achieved an index score of 69 on ‘Overall Performance’ this year,” said a Council representative. “The results reaffirm Boroondara as one of the top performing councils, with an overall performance score well above both the Metropolitan and Statewide averages of 63 and 54 respectively. “Our lifestyle and recreation services and offerings continue to be a large part of Boroondara’s appeal, with our top performing service areas being: ■ libraries (84, up 1 point from 2023 results) ■ appearance of public areas (76, up 4 points from 2023 results) ■ recreational facilities (74, up 2 points from 2023 results). “When asked what the best things about us are, the top three responses were: ■ parks and gardens ■ recreational/sporting facilities ■ waste management, including hard waste and tip. Lowest performing areas were informing the community, consultation and engagement, and community decisions.
Police News Where is Rachael?
● Rachael ■ Prahran Police are appealing for public assistance as they search for missing woman Rachael. The 49-year-old was last known seen at an address on Waverley Rd in Malvern at about 11am on Monday last week (July 22). Police have serious concerns for her welfare due to a medical condition and the length of time she has been missing. Rachael is described as Caucasian, with a slim build and short brown hair. She is known to use a walking frame. Investigators have released an image of Rachael in the hope that someone can provide information on her current whereabouts. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is urged to contact Prahran Police Station on 9520 5200.
Online workshop
■ Stonnington Council held an online workshop to people wishing to involve themselves in the proposed rezoning process for 131 – 133 Union Street, Windsor. The workship aimed to help local people who want to make a submission to the Government Land Standing Advisory Committee. The workshop was held online at 8.30pm on Monday night this week (July 29). Submissions close at 11.59pm on Thursday (Aug. 1).
