■ Kingston Mayor Cr Jenna Davey-Burns has described a deliberately-lit fire at the Bonbeach St Chads Baseball Clubhouse and playground in Bicentennial Park at Chelsea as “reckless, thoughtless and dangerous”. “It was extremely disappointing and frustrating to wake to news of the Bonbeach St Chads Baseball Clubhouse and playground in Bicentennial Park being severely damaged in suspected arson attacks,” Cr Davey-Burns said. “Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities as a result of this completely reckless, thoughtless and dangerous behaviour, but unfortunately it appears the Blue Jays and the broader community will be impacted for an extended period of time, which is very upsetting. “We know how loved the park and playground are by locals and visitors alike and the baseball club are a great group who are certainly feeling sad. “A big thanks to the firies for their great work to limit the damage and our other emergency services for their professional response too. “Our council officers have been onsite , making things safe, undertaking assessments, and assisting the police in the aftermath. “I urge anyone with any information about these fires to contact the police immediately. “We will provide further updates on the status of the playground and clubhouse once assessments are completed,” the Mayor said.

■ Yarra Council has removed a monument in Edinburgh Gardens which commemorated. The Captain Cook monument had been vandalised around the Australia Day weekend. “For community safety, Council officers have since removed the monument,” a City of Yarra statement said. 9888 8983

Glen Eira Council said it welcomed feedback from close to 1000 community members regarding the Level Crossing Removal Project’s two options for a cycling corridor along Queens Avenue, Caulfield. “Rather than support one of the two options put forward by the LXRP, Council decided at its meeting on February 6, to advocate for improvements to the options or an alternate route,” a Council representative said. “While we strongly support exploring new opportunities for strategic cycling infrastructure, any solutions must be well designed and balance the needs of the community and the local environment. “This includes the protection and retention of trees as well as residential amenity, in line with Council’s Urban For-
