Vulgar items for Bayside victims
■ Bayside Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team are appealing for public assistance following reports suspected used condoms have been posted to bayside residents over the past three months.
In most instances, victims have been receiving packages containing handwritten messages and the used prophylactics.
The first incident was reported to police on March 20, with the most recent occurring on May 15.
Letters have been mailed to residential addresses across Melbourne’s south-eastern and eastern suburbs.
Investigators have been told several people attended their local police stations to report the incidents, with upwards of 65 female victims coming forward.
It is believed that most of those who reported the material have received multiple letters, all with the suspected used item included.
Officers believe the victims are linked and are part of a targeted attack. Investigations remain ongoing.
Nine News reports that dozens of students who attended a Kiklbreda College during the late 1990s have received the packages containing seemingly used condoms and handwritten letters addressed to their homes. “Police suspect a student book containing home addresses that the women made in year 12 may have got into the wrong hands,” Nine News said.
"Whether it's an ex-student, an ex-employee, we are not sure. It might be a brother or a partner," Sen. Sgt Grant Lewis said.
"It could be someone who found the book in the rubbish and thought it might have been a bit of a game."
