NORTH PORT PROJECT AT RISK

CEO signals snag with upgrade

■ A REPORT due to be delivered tonight (Wed.) to Port Phillip Council describes the North Port Project as ‘at risk’.

● Police want to speak with this man.

“Ongoing preliminary design work has contributed to a delay in confirming the project scope. The design work includes perimeter fencing, sports field lighting location and public access gates,” Mr Smith says. A sum of $25,000 had been earmarked to be spent in the current financial year. In his report, Mr Smith also identifies the $178,000 ‘In Our Backyard’ project to also be at risk, because of State Government funding problems.

$400,000 contract blow-out ■ Costs for a new $743,442 ramp at Hawthorn Rowing Club have blown out, and the Boroondara Council has been asked to cover up to $400,000 more. Last week’s Council meeting was advised that the contract had been awarded to

Walcon Marine Australasia. “The project scope includes the demolition of the existing fixed rowing boat ramp and the construction of a new floating pontoon structure at the Hawthorn Rowing Club, 2-4 Burwood Road, Hawthorn,” said the report.

Melbourne Water has asked for extra works, and this means that the new cost will be $1,027,029 (excluding GST). Consultation with Melbourne Water, seeking approval to replace the existing ramp has been ongoing since 2018
