● Cr Louise Crawford is Mayor at the City of Port Phillip

■ ACTRESS Louise Crawford has been elected unopposed as Mayor of the City of Port Phillip. The former City Homicide cast member is a Climate Change activist, and stood unsuccessfully as a Labor candidate for Brighton. Cr Crawford had previously served as Deputy Mayor to veteran Councillor Dick Gross, who failed to win a seat for Canal Ward. At Stonnington, outgoing Mayor Steve Stefanopoulos failed in his bid to win a seat in the South Ward. The new Stonnington Mayor was due to be elected on Monday night (Nov. 23) after The Local Paper went to press. Contemporary artist Cr Gabrielle de Vietri was elected as the City of Yarra Mayor at a meeting held on Monday last week (Nov. 16). Cr Claudia Nguyen is Deputy Mayor. CrMargaret Esakoff was elected Mayor of Glen Eira for the 2020–21 Council year. Cr Jim Magee was elected Deputy Mayor.

● Cr Steve Staikos is Mayor at the City of Kingston ■ Cr Steve Staikos has been elected to lead the Kingston Council for the next 12 months. Cr Staikos has served as a Kingston Councillor for 12 years and has been the Mayor on two previous occasions, in 2009-10 and 2017-18. “I’m honoured and privileged to be chosen for this role for the third time,” said Cr Staikos. The newly-elected Mayor reflected on the challenges brought about by COVID-19 and said helping the Kingston community to rebuild would continue to be a priority of this new Council. Newly elected Councillor and Karkarook Ward representative Cr Hadi Saab was elected as Deputy Mayor. There are now 11 single-member wards. The 11 Councillors sworn in at the special meeting last Wednesday night (Nov. 18) were: Banksia Ward – Cr Cameron Howe, Bunjil Ward – Cr Steve Staikos, Caruana Ward – Cr George Hua. Chicquita Ward – Cr Tracey Davies, Como Ward – Cr Chris Hill, Karkarook Ward – Cr Hadi Saab. Longbeach Ward – Cr Georgina Oxley, Melaleuca Ward – Cr Tim Cochrane. Sandpiper Ward – Cr David Eden, Wattle Ward – Cr Jenna Davey-Burns; Yammerbook Ward – Cr Tamsin Bearsley.
