LABOR WINS DUNKLEY

■ Jodie Belyea of the Australian Labor Party won the Dunkley by-election on Saturday (Mar. 2), with a 4402-vote lead over Liberal candidate, Nathan Conroy. With preferences distributed, Ms Belyea has a 52.7 per cent result. Ms Belyea will be sworn in to the House of Representatives in Canberra. She was supported in the campaign by a visit on Friday (Mar. 2) to the local electorate by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Analysts pointed out that the conservative vote increased for the Liberals, as the Pauline Hanson One Nation Party snd United Australia Party did not contest the by-election. Mr Conroy is likely to return to his role as a Councillor on Frankston City Council. The Dunkley seat was formerly held by Labor with a margin of 6.3 per cent.
