● Chris Brayne, Nepean MLA. ■ Works to improve safety and accessibility at one of the Mornington Peninsula’s most popular landmarks will be completed in time for summer. The $2.1 million upgrade of Rye Pier has delivered a safer and more accessible approach after a busy six months of works. The new 309-metre deck is now 4.2 metres wide and built from Australian hardwood timber, chosen to preserve the historical importance of the pier. Chris Brayne, Nepean MLA, said: “I am delighted this project will be able to be enjoyed over the busy summer months, with the improvements providing a better experience for all for many years to come.” “Piers and jetties are a popular feature of the Mornington Peninsula, for local enjoyment ,” Mr Brayne said.

■ Detectives from Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit are investigating an armed robbery in Noble Park. Police officers have been told an unknown man has attended a grocery store on Douglas St, Noble Park just after 9.30am on Wednesday, October 25. The man asked the shop owner for ice-cream before producing a firearm. Investigators were told the man pointed the gun at the victim and demanded she hand over her jewellery. The man fled the scene on foot with a bag containing over $3000 which was located behind the counter and the shop owner’s jewellery. The offender was last seen running along Joy Parade towards Henry St. The man was wearing a black beanie, black face mask, navy spray jacket, black pants, black runners and carrying a grey and black back Investigators have released images and CCTV of a person they believe may be able to assist with their enquires.
