Seaford bridge decision ■ Frankston Councillors have voted to upholdstheir previous decision not to reconstruct the Beckwith Grove bridge and in lieu advocates for external funding opportunities for a new bridge that will continue to require the accessway at 6R Beckwith Grove Seaford.

For the motion were Crs Asker, Baker, Bolam, Conroy, Harvey, Hill and Tayler Against the motion were Crs Liam Hughes and Steven Hughes.

The Council last week noted: ■ Historically the Beckwith Grove bridge previously provided access from a former caravan park (now Kananook Creek Reserve) to the beach; ■ Alternate safe pedestrian access including fire exit to the beach is available via Station Street Bridge (North) and Seaford Road Bridge (South); ■ Frankston Police has indicated in the past that they do not recommend opening of the pedestrian bridge and associated walkway to general public due to significant safety and privacy concerns; ■ the outcome of the independent safety assessment undertaken in 2021, in particular the assessment on fire safety and stranger danger risks, which do not recommend construction of the bridge at this location; ■ the location of the bridge is in a

significantly constrained environment, attracts low usage and poses significant challenges in terms of reinstatement of the bridge from cost, community safety and constructability perspective; ■ release to the public as part of the minutes, the confidential cost estimate attachment included in the previous Council report (September 2017); and ■ the revised cost estimate received in 2021 for the construction of a bridge including associated infrastructure.

The preliminary cost for the steel bridge with no DDA access was $450,000.

This included removal of vegetation, environment offsets, engineering, bridge construction and walkway construction.

The price for the a steel bridge with DDA access was $670,000.

Safety elements - inclouding CCTV, lighting and gates - was $70,000.

Camping worries

■ Eildon MLA Cindy McLeish has raised the issue of camping regulation, in State Parliament.

“It comes as no surprise that a major issue with the proposed camping along licensed river frontage is rubbish left behind by those campers,” Ms McLeish said.

“I have received photos from a landowner in Howqua Inlet of rubbish left behind by unregulated campers over the Easter holidays.

“Not only food scraps and plastic wrapping, it was discarded tents, bottles, aerosol cans and plastic tubs.

“I am concerned this disrespectful behaviour is a sign of things to come. Landowners are rightly disturbed by many of the proposed regulations, including campers being allowed to camp only 100 metres from family homes and for 28 days.

“This is an invasion of privacy and raises concerns for children’s safety. In addition, there are already limited resources to monitor unregulated camping and dangerous behaviour.

“Concerns exist as to how campers will be patrolled, how risks of livestock interference will be mitigated and uncertainty about liability matters.

“The State Government needs to listen to and incorporate feedback on the proposed regulations by current licence-holders to ensure a bad situation does not become worse,” Ms McLeish said.

Domestic violence

■ Caulfield MLA David Southwick has spoken in State Parliament about the problem of domestic violence.

“Unfortunately in Victoria each and every day, every five minutes, we see one person, one woman, experiencing domestic violence.

“It is a scourge on our society, and we must together do whatever we can to support those women and children fleeing domestic violence.

“It is my pleasure today to be joined by the board members, including the founder, Kathy Kaplan, OAM, of Impact.

“They are volunteers doing an amazing job to support women and children fleeing from domestic violence. I joined with Bella Popovski, one of my interns, to pack 2000 bags of love that are going out this Mother’s Day to many of those women that are experiencing the hardship and the suffering.”

Guy in spotlight

■ Matthew Guy, former State Opposition Leader, is certainly winning his share of the spotlight in the Legislative Assembly.

Mr Guy, MLA for Bulleen, spoke this month about Fitzsimons Lane, Templestowe.

“I wish to place on record my concern at the loss of bus stops at Templestowe Reserve during the Fitzsimons Lane upgrades.

“At present there are east and westbound bus stops on Porter St that are well used by residents who live on the streets that run off Edwin Rd and Niland Rise.

“They are heavily used for school runs and on weekends, when Templestowe Reserve is used for tennis and AFL and the scout hall has various activities. Due to the Fitzsimons Lane change and these stops being removed, they will be removed for some lengthy period. Local residents are greatly concerned at the loss of these active bus stops for a lengthy period,” Mr Guy said.

More than 1000 people have given their feedback on what they think life on the Mornington Peninsula should look like in 2040. This is after two weeks of Mornington Peninsula Shire’s community vision project Imagine: Peninsula 2040. The Shire says itis committed to making this the biggest and most inclusive community engagement exercise it has ever done.

The Committee for Greater Frankston is playing politics with the Federal Government in Canberra. The Committee set a 3pm Friday deadline for the Morrison Government to confirm that money for the Frankston rail extension was in last week’s Budget. The deadline passed with no reply from the Government. As The Local Paper went to press, the Committee promised to renew its efforts in the new week.

Warrants for Bradley ■ Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate Bradley McCormack.

The 28-year-old is wanted on warrants for theft, weapon and fraud-related offences.

McCormack is described as Caucasian, 182cm tall with brown hair and brown eyes.

He is known to frequent the Langwarrin, Bonbeach and Melbourne CBD areas.

Investigators have released an image of McCormack in the hope that someone may have information on his current whereabouts.

Jewellery stolen at Red Hill ■ Mornington Peninsula Crime Investigations Unit officers are investigating the theft of a jewellery case containing bespoke jewellery worth $20,000.

A woman was packing up her stall at the Red Hill market on Arthurs Seat Rd about 2pm on Saturday, May 1.

A jewellery case containing approximately 300 rings, 20 bangles, 300 pairs of earrings and 20 necklaces was stolen whilst she was packing her car nearby.

The case is described as olive green with black trays inside.

Investigators have released images of some of the jewellery the case contained.

$20,000 HAUL AT SATURDAY MARKET

● Cr Brad Hill Frankston City Council plans to include a new ground-breaking re cycled product in a shared user path earmarked for Stotts Lane, Frankston South.

The path will include Polyrok - a sustainable alternative to mineral aggregate in concrete for pathways, kerbs and channels that find a home for the most problematic waste stream, soft plastic. South Ward Cr Brad Hill said the path highlights Council's commitment to ustainability. The path will improve connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists along the western side of the Stotts Lane between Golf links Road and Escarpment Drive.

■ A man has been arrested by Police following a burglary at a service station in Springvale South ob Tuesday morning last week (May 11).

Emergency services were called to the Heatherton Rd store following reports a nearby resident heard glass smashing in the vicinity of the station about 2am.

It is believed the offender smashed a glass window and forced entry to the store before he was seen rummaging through the counter.

Attending police, assisted by the Critical Incident Response Team and Dog Squad, cordoned off the area and called on the man to come out of the store. The 42-year-old man surrendered to Police without incident.

The Dandenong man has been taken to hospital, under Police guard, for treatment to an injury believed sustained while trying to break-in.

Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating and expected to interview the man in relation to burglary, criminal damage and going equipped to steal.

Equestrian review

New Drug Court at D’nong ■ The Dandenong Drug Court will now operate from a new, purpose-built facility – delivering vital services and specialist support to those who need it most in the local community.

Jaclyn Symes, Attorney-General, joined with Dqandenong MLA Gabrielle Williams, and outh Eastern Metropolitan Region MLC Tien Kieu to officially open the new site on Thursday (May 13).

“Our community has felt the benefit of the Drug Court program for close to 20 years – and I’m delighted that this new, purpose-built facility will ensure this continues into the future,” said Ms Williams.

The Dandenong Drug Court will supervise participants caught in the cycle of drug and alcohol dependency and substance-related offending. It will feature office space for staff and team members, dedicated interview and counselling rooms, urinalysis facilities and group workspaces.

Results from the Dandenong and Melbourne Drug Courts demonstrate its success – an evaluation of the Dandenong court showed re-offending over the first year after completing a Drug Treatment Order dropped by one-third, said a Government spokesman.

■ More than 200 people volunteer their time to 15 different programs run by Greater Dandenong City Council.

The Council is celebrating their generosity as part of National Volunteer Week (May 17-23), which provides an opportunity to recognise the six million Australians who give up their time for others.

Greater Dandenong Mayor Cr Angela Long said volunteers are an integral part of the local community, and contribute to the culture, vibrancy, health and wellbeing of the city.

“This year’s theme is Recognise. Reconnect. Reimagine, quite appropriate when you think about a year when many of us have experienced increased loneliness and isolation,” Cr Long said.

Burglary at S’vale

Koo Wee Rup fatal

■ Police are investigating a fatal crash in Koo Wee Rup last week.

Emergency services were called to South Gippsland Hwy near Sybella Avenue to reports a motorcycle had crashed about 6.25am on Tuesday (May 11).

Passers-by performed CPR on the male rider, however he died at the scene. Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Local Briefs 200 help Council

■ Cardinia Council is currently reviewing its Equestrian Strategy (2014) and is seeking community feedback.

The Equestrian Strategy seeks to improve participation opportunities and strengthen the significance of equestrian activity within the shire.

Community engagement will also help to determine: ■ Frequency of use of trails and facilities ■ Changing expectations and trends within the equestrian community ■ Identification of improvements or change in priorities ■ Current issues affecting the equestrian community.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Brett Owen encouraged local equestrians to provide feedback on the strategy: “I know equestrian is a popular sport locally, and this review will provide Council with a better understanding of current and future needs within the equestrian community, and how we can continue to support these needs moving forward.”

The strategy also acknowledges the significance of the horse racing industry in Cardinia Shire however excludes any specific analysis or recommendations relating to the racing industry.

Arrests at Carrum Downs ■ Southern Metro Region Division 4 Response Unit detectives have arrested several people following search warrants at an address in Carrum Downs on Thursday (May 13).

Detectives located and seized what is alleged to be a commercial quantity of drugs, an imitation firearm, a large quantity of cash and three motorcycles.

Whilst processing the scene, one of the men arrived on a motorcycle and attempted to flee but was arrested nearby.

The 34-year-old Patterson Lakes man has been charged with drug offences, driving whilst disqualified and his motorcycle has been impounded for 30 days.

A 40-year-old Sandhurst man has been charged with drug offences and bailed to appear in court at a later date.

A 36-year-old Mount Evelyn man has been charged with drug offences and bailed to appear in court at a later date.

A 31-year-old Carrum Downs man has been charged with drug offences and bailed to appear in court at a later date.

A 38-year-old Sandhurst woman has been released pending further enquiries.

A 33-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, both from Carrum Downs, was in custody assisting Police with their enquiries.

Eagle eyes at Clayton ■ An eagle-eyed member of the public has alerted Police to a group of men allegedly breaking into vehicles in Clayton last Wednesday (May 12).

The witness was driving along Princes Hwy when she spotted four men inside a car yard at the intersection of Clayton Rd just after midnight.

Plans at Rosebud ■ Rosebud Plaza centre has lodged a planning application with Mornington Peninsula Shire to demolish an existing Woolworths and build a Dan Murphy’s store.

The Herald Sun reports that The $9 million plan followed a decisiontby Target to close its Rosebud outlet later this year.

“The space currently occupied by Target in the centre will be taken by Woolworths.”

Started in 1975 ■ A multi-deck car park at Frankston station is apparently closer to reality after last week’s Federal Budget.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said the Government would increase its contribution by $19 million for the $87 million project, which will provide 515 new car spaces.

The extra cash brings the Federal Government's contribution to $43.5 million.

The Victorian Government is also contributing $43.5 million.

The proposed Frankston car park has a chequered history. It was first announced on September 3, 1975, when it became clear Frankston's CBD was becoming heavily impacted by all-day commuter parking, making life difficult for traders and staff, shoppers and visitors, says the Committee for Greater Frankston.

Hindu prayer ■ The prayer at last week’s Greater Dandenong Council meeting was scheduled to be offered by Rajaratna Sarma Premakantha Kurukkal from the Hindu community, a member of the Greater Dandenong Interfaith Network.

Budget feedback ■ Frankston Council is starting extensive consultation across the municipality on its Draft 2021-2025 Council Plan and Budget.

Frankston Mayor Cr Kris Bolam said: "This year, for the first time, the Council Plan and Annual Budget have been combined.

"The merging of these two documents reflects how these two pieces of work inherently complement each other in the delivery of critical services and infrastructure for our City.

Council officers will be popping up at local spots across Frankston City from today (Wed., May 19) and June 5, to answer residents' questions and facilitate feedback.

Ahead of budget

No extra parking ■ Committee for Greater Frankston CEO Ginevra Hosking has noted promised new commuter parking at Seaford and Kananook stations will not be built.

The 100 car parks at these two stations would have cost about $14 million all up.

"The strategic solution is to move commuter parking out of the CBD by extending the train line to Langwarrin, or Baxter on the Mornington Peninsula, and build dedicated commuter car parks. New stations on the extended train line would become the backbone of an improved bus system.”

■ The Greater Dandenong Council overall management accounting result is showing a favourable variance of $15.46 million against the budget.

The variance over nine months “is mainly due to a favourable surplus from ongoing operations, caused by lower than anticipated operating expenditure to date”, said a report to last week’s Council meeting.

Crs see new plan ■ Mornmgton Peninsula Shire Councillors late last month received a briefing on the Willum Warrain Gathering Place - Conceptual Masterplan, coordinated approach to the uture planning and development.

■ Mornington Peninsula Shire Councillors have received a briefing about an Extractive Resources Strategy for Hillview Quarry.

Councillors were provided with an overview of the Victorian Government’s Extractive Resources Strategy and its six key themes, including planning/land use and innovative end land use

Somerville query ■ Mornington Peninsula Shire has received a joint letter with nine signatures with concerns about the state of the bike and walking path along Frankston-Flinders Rd, between Bungower Rd and Deanswood Drive, Somerville.

The residents advise the garden beds are scattered with rubbish, trees and branches have fallen and in parts the walking path is narrow as mulch from the garden is creeping across, limiting access. They also advised there are tree roots coming up through the path.

Extra $43 million ■ Casey Council says that there will be a budget surplus of $168 million which is $43 million (34 per cent) favourable to budget.

The forecast is contained in a report to the Administrators for a meeting due to be held yesterday (Tues.), as this edition of The Local Paper went to press.

It is suggested that there be support for the improved recreational facilities and greater access to the Reserve for the general public.

Councillors will consider the recommendation that the Council advocates for the State Government to assign the Park Manager role to a State Government Agency for a significant reserve of regional importance.

There is likely to be a request that Melbourne Water provide and Environmental Impact Statements or documentation that considers the environmental and conservation impacts of the proposal to assist the community in any future advocacy plans.

A report recommends that the Council highly commends the work that the Cardinia Environment Coalition has undertaken in managing the reserve.

At hearing ■ Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Cr Kerri McCafferty has represented the Council at a public hearing held by the Australian Government’s Standing Committee on the Environment and Energy, says a report to Councillors.

Shots fired at Blackburn Rd MAN, 33, ARRESTED

BY POLICE NEARBY ■ Police are investigating after shots were fired during an aggravated burglary in Glen Waverley on Thursday night (May 13).

Police officers were called to an address on Blackburn Rd about 11.15pm after reports a man had attended the premises and firearm was discharged.

The offender also threatened the occupants of the residence with a conducted energy device before leaving.

It is believed he got into white car which was involved in a collision with another vehicle on Blackburn Rd. The offender dumped the car and fled on foot.

Police patrolled the area and arrested a 30year-old man nearby and recovered the energy device.

He was assisting Police with their enquires.

Investigators believe that the parties are known to each other.

PARK HINT ■ Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a sexual assault in Huntingdale.

Investigators have been told the female victim was at the Huntingdale Railway Station about 12.30am on March 3.

It is believed a man approached the woman as she sat alone on some steps outside the station.

He exposed himself and masturbated in front of the woman before walking onto the platform and boarding a Pakenham-bound train which investigators believe he may have exited at Noble Park or Dandenong.

Investigators have released images of a man who they believe can assist with their enquiries.

He is perceived to be Indian in appearance and was wearing a blue polo shirt, grey track pants and black shoes.

Victoria Chorale is leading the charge with a Fabulous Fauré concert on Saturday May 22, featuring the sublime Fauré requiem, his much-loved Cantique de Jean Racine, and Haydn's first symphony.

This fine choir will feature fine baritone Raphael Wong as the soloist in the Fauré, with Australian Boys Choir 's George Stirling singing the treble solo in the Requiem, accompanied by the Art of Sound orchestra. all conduced by Dr Mario Dobernig.

Over the past few years the choir has developed and grown under Mario's dynamic leadership, and choristers travel from all over Melbourne to sing with Victoria Chorale. Local Theatre Better Off Said

■ After an initial launch pre-pandemic, Better Off Said returns in June at the Brunswick Ballroom. Guests include: Denise Scott, N’fa Jones, Samuel Johnson, Janelle Da Silva and Senator Lidia Thorpe as well as a musical performance from Mama Alto.

Better Off Said is an afternoon to release some words, thoughts and reflections for the living and dead. It was created by Emilie Zoey Baker and Marieke Hardy, part of the team behind the international literary phenomenon Women of Letters.

Presented as a monthly soiree, Better Off Said invites four guests to respond to the phrase ‘what I wish I’d said’ and at the June event, Senator Thorpe will deliver a ‘living eulogy’ – paying tribute to someone or something still of this earth.

“There are times when we find ourselves caught up in spiral, overthinking those unsaid comments or responses that scream to be let out. Better Off Said is a platform to release these words in a composed and cathartic way.

It may be a comeback line, a confession, revenge or even a compliment,” said Baker.

“Humans often just accept that everything and everyone dies. We’ve curated a space where we can all reflect on love, loss, healing and letting go together. It’s a privilege to even be able to sit in this realm and ruminate.

To listen and learn. I never want to take for granted life’s impermanence,” said Hardy.

Past guests have revealed a myriad of responses. Em Rusciano talked about the things she wished she’d said to the boss who fired her from commercial radio. Charlie Pickering lamented never thanking his grandmother for making him funny. Lou Bennett eulogised the Djab Wurrung birthing tree.

Celia Pacquola wished she knew how to say ’no’.

Life can be too short. Sometimes people wait too long to say the things they really want to express. This is a moment to let the words go and not be weighed down by the ‘whatifs’. Instead, stand tall and let it all out to a room full of strangers.

Boost for Arena

■ Bendigo-based Arena Theatre Company has received the great news that their proposal to build a large-scale immersive and interactive art attraction for all ages in the heart of Bendigo, has been awarded $602,700 funding to support the initiative, through the Government's Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand fund, targeted at getting Australia's creative sector to bounce back from the impacts of COVID-19.

Arena Theatre was one of three companies based in regional Victoria to benefit from the scheme. Projects were funded based on their capacity to generate increased economic impact for the entertainment sector and allied industries such as tourism and hospitality.

For 55 years, Arena Theatre Company’s work has represented and reflected the changing lives and imaginations of young people, creating art that encourages children and young people to imagine new futures beyond the world defined by previous generations.

The company says: "We approach young people under the cover of robotics, or augmented reality, or drones, or motion capture technology, and together – us, experts in making art, them, experts in being children and young people – together, we accidentally-onpurpose discover a whole lot of things about ourselves, about each other, about the world that we all share."

Playground Injuries ■ Deepcut Productions presents their first production, the dark, comedic two-hander Gruesome Playground Injuries, from May 25-9 at The Butterfly Club, Melbourne.

Written by Rajiv Joseph and directed by Ellen Wiltshire, the play tells of independent and anxious Kayleen (Marlea Correy) meeting accidentprone Dougie (Rory Harman) at only eight years of age in the nurse's office at school.

The play follows their journey over the course of 30 years in a series of randomly ordered snapshots of memory.

Marlea Correy, who plays Kayleen, founded the production company in order to put on this play which she discovered when she was 16.

Gruesome Playground Injuries is a play about stitches, sarcasm and scars.

Gospel According to Paul ■ Paul Keating could verbally eviscerate political opponents and he did so with a hooligan’s brutality, the precision of the French timepieces he collected and the charm of a larrikin.

Jonathan Biggins’ homage to the former Prime Minister captures all these enigmatic and contradictory elements that saw Keating crave the highest political office but whose humility has seen him eschew the honours that go with it.

It is not just the physical mannerisms associated with Keating that allows Biggins to become Keating but the cadences and rhythm of Keating’s language; how he employed the put down, how he spoke the language of the statesman and of the gutter and crossed between the two with ease.

Biggins has also crafted a work that begins with what can only be described as a stand-up comedy routine which then morphs into a political history and utilises the song and dance of vaudeville along the way.

These shifts not only entertain but inform.

We are watching Keating’s journey from a high school leaver at 14 to a giant intellect of the political stage.

There is bawdy laughter and profound sadness elegantly portrayed as Biggins shifts between chronological moments in Keating’s life.

The lighting (Verity Hampson) assists in these transitions all of which capture the audience leaving them more informed but equally curious about this complex man.

Local Theatre The Execution Will Not be Televised

■ Welcome to the game show from Hell, Judge Your Neighbour. In a dystopian future where there is no government, the world is now ruled by The Social Network.

In this immersive theatre experience, the ‘studio’ audience get to decide the fate of five criminals battling it out for the ultimate prize—life or death—by logging into the Judge Your Neighbour website and voting the wretched contestants off.

Although the stakes are higher than we’re used to, just as in all great reality TV shows, contestants are pitted against each other to win immunity from elimination - literally.

The five contestants are all revealed as the show unfolds.

We get to choose between a corrupt cop, a murderer, a computer hacker, an arsonist and a rape-revenger.

Throw in some torturous challenges, behind-the-scenes cheating, and the hapless contestants are humiliated and exploited in equal measure.

Written and directed by Kieran GouldDowen, The Execution will not be Televised is a thought-provoking satire of the reality genre.

It’s also extremely funny.

Mollie Mooney and Frank Kerr are both exceptional as the smarmy game show hosts Annabel and Charlie.

Luca Romani puts in a terrific performance as the wannabee host/assistant, Pascal. As the contestants unveil their histories, the jury find out that all is not what it seems.

Marcus Hensley brings pathos to the role of as Oscar, the carryover champion vying for his fourth attempt at winning immunity.

Max Bowyer’s simple set and Allie Luecke’s costumes were really effective.

The show could do with shortening—the second act is as long as the first.

That said, there is great potential in this very clever, existential comedy - Review by Kathryn Keeble

Aarne Neeme’s direction brings these elements together and along with a lounge chair and desk we have Biggins command the stage and the audience.

Biggins seems totally at ease in his character portrayal, the mask only shifting as he takes his final bow. The standing ovation at the end of the night was a tribute to his prowess as a performer, satisfaction for the laughter and merriment along the way, delight in learning more about Keating but also a sense of disappointment that such figures no longer seem to occupy the halls of Canberra.

■ The La Mama Theatre team advises their restored theatre now has a roof!

After many long vulnerable days exposed to the elements, the roof, and the protection that comes with it, is complete and looking great.

All the brickwork is in place, including the stunning gable end and almost the dormer window too. The framing for the mezzanine and windowsills are done and the scaffolding is coming down. Internal painting begins today.

In the admin building the roof is also finished, with solar panels too. The ceiling lining to level one is complete, as is the lift shaft cladding. The scaffolding is also coming down and the timber windows are being installed this week.

Inspired by true stories, the first play What is the Matter with Mary Jane? written as a monologue by Wendy Harmer and Sancia Robinson, follows Sancia's story about her life-threatening eating disorder.

Director Natasha Boyd's interpretative script adaptation introduced three females and one male to depict Sancia, her controlling, negative inner voices and others, individually and unified. This treatment enhanced audience interest and emphasised non-gender specific vulnerability to eating disorders.

Slut tells of Lolita's sad life trajectory from happy, top-grade student to tragic downfall.

The fickle, mercurial gossip of 'friends' sees Lolita revered, envied and loathed as her life spirals uncontrollably from sexual objectification, abuse and violence.

Julia Lambert, Malaynee Hayden, Casey Bohan and Jen Bush presented articulate, high-energy performances under Natasha

Boyd's skilled, sensitive direction.

Reschelle O’Connor created compelling and memorable theatre with her outstanding portrayal of Lolita, who desperately craved friendship, love, loyalty and respect.

Natasha Boyd and Chris Collins’s effective sound design atmospherically complemented the script.

Homeless in New York

■ Well known restaurateur Denis Hagger has exploded back on to the Toorak food scene. Many of us would remember the wellknown restaurant 'Hagger's' on Toorak Rd in the eighties.

It was the ‘go to’ restaurant, and usually the Melbourne Cup and connections would celebrate long and hard after the running of the race that stops the nation.

After a break, Denis Hagger noticed the amazing rotisseries in Paris and all through France and decided to create a similar concept in Toorak Village.

It is certainly something out of the ordinary and the locals love it. This is just not your regular chicken shop, it is an experience to taste organic, free range birds, hormone free, antibiotic free and preservative free chicken from a traditional French rotisserie.

Denis said: "Once you try one of our fully brined free-range chickens, I think you will find it difficult to eat another battery hen from a supermarket."

■ New York City's Hell's Kitchen residents fear a summer of the "living dead" as thousands of vagrants the city dumped in the neighborhood over the last year emerge from their homeless hotels.

A "sewer" and a "cesspool" is how longtime Hell's Kitchen activist Marisa Redanty described the neighborhood in recent weeks, as the return of warm weather produced a sudden upswing in the presence of drug-addled and deranged homeless people on the streets of Midtown.

"This summer will be the night of the living dead," she predicted. NYPD data shows the area's homeless hotels have already become quality-of-life hell scapes.

Police, EMS and fire have responded to 233 calls already this year at Spring Hill Suites on West 36th Street, compared with just 22 calls at the same time last year when the city began moving shelter residents into hotels in April.

Latest billionaire list ■ There are currently 2755 members of the three-comma club, including new entrant Kim Kardashian West. The "youngest billionaires" is always an interesting portion of the list.

Here's a mix of inherited wealth and self-made fortunes: ■ Kevin David Lehmann (18 years old; worth $3.3B): The German teen inherited his father's 50 per cent stake in a leading drugstore chain.

■ Wang Zelong (24; $1.5B): This Chinese national inherited a stake in her family's pigment chemicals business.

■ Alexandra and Katharina Andresen (24, 25; $1.4B each): The Andresen sisters inherited a stake in a Norwegian investment firm run by their father, Johan, who is still active.

■ Austin Russell (26; $2.4B): Russell dropped out of Stanford in 2012 to found a startup that develops self-driving car technology (lidar). When the company Luminar Technologies went public via SPAC in December, Russell joined the threecomma club.

De Niro’s money issues ■ Robert De Niro's lawyer sayswthat his estranged wife's lavish spending habits and demands that are "rich with indulgence" will work the actor to death.

During a divorce hearing, Caroline Krauss, De Niro's attorney, said her client, age 77, is breaking his back trying to pay for Grace Hightower's shopping: "When does he get the opportunity to not take every project that comes along and not work six-day weeks, 12-hour days so he can keep pace with Ms Hightower's thirst for Stella McCartney?"

In 2019, Krauss continued, Hightower purchased a $1.2 million diamond ring.

In 2015, the federal government placed a $6.4 million tax lien on the actor.

Hightower's lawyer Kevin McDonough countered that De Niro himself is the profligate, pouring millions into multiple home renovations and extravagant travel.

McDonough said, "When Mr. De Niro goes to brunch Sunday in Connecticut, he charters a helicopter up there."

The two filed for divorce in 2018, and since then, De Niro has cut her allowance from $375,000 per month to $100,000 as of January, according to McDonough.

The two signed a prenuptial agreement in 2004, but they continue to battle over the terms of the split, most heatedly over alimony payments.

■ For millions of young Americans, the pandemic has been a time machine back to the early eighties. By July 2020, 52 per cent of 18 to 29 years olds, or 26.6 million adults, were now residing with a parent, according to a new Pew Research Centre analysis.

It is the highest number since the Great Depression. In New York, some 300,000 left the city. Many of those people found themselves living in time capsules lovingly preserved childhood bedrooms, plastered in posters and magazine cutouts of boy bands and James Cameron blockbusters, and tricked out with décor from the Myspace era.

Many are still there. Jess Cohen, 39, was one of them. She left her Manhattan apartment during the pandemic to move back in with her family in Fresh Meadows, Queens. Her modest bedroom hadn't changed since high school, two decades ago.

Amazon boss steps down ■ Since Amazon went public in 1997, Jeff Bezos has penned a much read annual letter to the company's shareholders.

With plans to hand over reins of the company to AWS head Andy Jassy later this year, Bezos dropped his final annual letter.

Here are a couple of key takeaways from his letter: ■ On success: "If you want to be successful in business in life, actually, you have to create more than you consume. Your goal should be to create value for everyone you interact with."

■ On safety: "Roughly 40 per cent of work-related injuries at Amazon are related to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

“We're developing new automated staffing schedules that use sophisticated algorithms to rotate employees among jobs that use different muscle-tendon groups."

■ On life: "To all of you: be kind, be original, create more than you consume, and never, never, never let the universe smooth you into your surroundings. It remains Day 1."

■ More than 5300 New York Police Department uniformed officers retired or put in their papers to leave in 2020, a 75 pe rcent spike from the year before, department data show.

The exodus, amid the pandemic, anti-cop hostility, riots and a skyrocketing number of NYC shootings saw 2,600 officers say goodbye to the job and another 2746 file for retirement, a combined 5346. In 2019, the NYPD had 1,509 uniformed officers leave and 1544 file for retirement, for a total of 3053. The departures and planned departures of 5300 officers represents about 15 perc ent of the force. Already the NYPD headcount of uniformed officers has dropped to 34,974 from 36,900 in 2019.

To April 21, 831 cops have retired or filed to leave and many more are expected to follow suit in the current anti-cop climate, according to Joseph Giacalone, a retired NYPD sergeant and adjunct professor "Cops are forming a conga line down at the pension section and I don't blame them," Giacalone said. "NYPD cops are looking for better jobs with other departments or even embarking on new careers." The flurry of Finest farewells began after the Minnesota police-involved killing of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, with 272 uniformed cops putting in retirement papers from then through June 24

Magazine ■ The closest I ever got to Robert Mitchum was when we were in Ireland in 1995. My wife Cate and I visited Dunquin in County Kerry where he filmed Ryan's Daughter.

I went to the schoolhouse which was used in the film and Kruger's Bar where he spent a lot of his time whilst filming. There were photos of Robert Mitchum hanging in the bar - so that is as close as I got to one of my film heroes, Robert Mitchum.

Robert Charles Durman Mitchum (he used his real name) was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1917. His father was killed in a railroad accident when Robert was only two years old.

His mother worked at various jobs to support Robert and his brother and sister. Robert was a troublesome child. He was expelled from several schools and arrested.for vagrancy s r aat the e age of 14.

The story goes that he was placed on a chain gang but escaped and returned to his family. In 1936 he was in California when his sister Julie convinced him to join the local theatre company.

In 1940 he married Dorothy Spence and the marriage was to last until his death. After the birth of their first child Robert worked as a machinist and suffered a nervous breakdown. He recovered and got work as an extra and bit player in films.

By Kevin Trask of 3AW and 96.5 Inner FM Cassidy film titled Hoppy Serves A Writ. This led to a series of small roles over the next few y In 1944 he impressed director Mervyn Le Roy with his work in the film Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo and was signed to a seven-year contract with RKO studios.

At that stage he was incredibly handsome with those dreamy eyes and that ‘tough guy’ rugged look. He was drafted into the army in 1945 and after the war finished he returned to acting.

In 1946 he received his only Academy Award nomination as Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Story Of GI Joe where he played a ‘war weary’ officer.

● Robert Mitchum In 1949 he was in jail for 60 days after being caught with drugs. After his release he continued his acting career. Robert Mitchum made some wonderful films. His credits included Crossfire, Out Of The Past, His Kind of Woman,

River of No Return (with Marilyn Monroe), Cape Fear, The Grass Is Greener and The Big Sleep.

He was a huge fan of Elvis Presley and wanted to work with him in the film Thunder Road. Col. Tom Parker priced Elvis too high and the role went to Robert's son, James.

Robert Mitchum came to Australia in 1960 to film The Sundowners and played opposite his friend Deborah Kerr. The Sundowners received five Academy Award nominations including Best Picture - but it was not a financial success in the USA. Robert Mitchum was a popular singer and composer. His version of Little Old Wine Drinker Me went to number nine on the American hit parade. In 1983 he starred as a naval officer in the mini series The Winds of War. He had three children and although his marriage had rough patches it survived for 57 years.

Robert Mitchum died in Santa Barbara in 1997 of lung cancer and emphysema. Robert Mitchum was one of the great actors from the Golden Age of Hollywood.

In an international exclusive, the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) will present a major exhibition of more than 100 masterworks of French impressionism in partnership with the Museum of fine Arts, Boston, an institution renowned for world-wide for its rich holdings of impressionist paintings.

Opening in June as part of the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition series, French Impressionism will feature works by Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissaro, Mary Cassat and more - including 79 that have never-before-been exhibited in Australia.

These important loans from the MFA's iconic collection provide a rare opportunity to see a significant grouping of impressionist masterworks in Australia.

Benalla Art Gallery Rhythmic Compositions Robert Jacks Rhythmic Compositions focuses primarily on the artist's guitar-inspired work of the 1980s and 2000s.

All works exude Jacks's appreciation of music through both their direct depiction of the guitar, but also the sense of rhythm and structure, he was able to impart into each composition.

This body of work harks back to earlier Picasso-inspired guitar paintings of the late 1950s and early 1960s, while drawing inspiration from sources such as Miles Davis's seminal album Sketches of Spain.

Exhibition closes August 1.Venue: Bennett Gallery Northern Abstractions: Ralph Bristow, Frank burgess, and Anthea Kemp Northern Abstractions draws together three artists with deep ties to the North East Victorian region to explore their diverse approaches to abstract painting.

Living in Barwite and working from his studio, Ralph Bristow's paintings are a mindful collage where dimensions are subverted, spontaneity trumps tradition, consciousness streams and colours enter with delight in unexpected associations.

Based in Wangaratta and practising from his Bridge St studio in Benalla, Frank Burgers explores and challenges.

Working from both memory and direct references, Anthea Kemp's paintings are grounded in place, exploring the formalities of both representation and abstraction.

My name is David Waugh.

I am a Freemason.

We believe Mankind should be exactly that.

Hello, my name is David Waugh. I live in the Macedon Ranges. I would like to tell you about a men’s fraternity to which I belong. The group is called the Freemasons.

As a hobby, I enjoy old cars, and I am currently President of the Daimler and Lanchester Car Club.

As I say, there are about 7600 Freemasons in Victoria. We support each other, our families and the community.

My husband Paul and I operate a horse rescue farm, buying horses from the racing and show worlds, and giving them new lives such as riding for the disabled, and personal rehabilitation work.

Across the world, there are about six million Freemasons. We actively seek to promote international understanding. We believe mankind should be exactly that.

I have has a life-long association with Freemasonry. I joined Wesley Collegians Lodge when I was in my 20s. You don’t have to been to any particular school to become a Freemason. There are no academic courses to pass.

Our members meet each month.

We learn life lessons (degrees), share a meal and a drink with each other, we have social functions that include our family members, and we enjoy doing charity work. We can also visit our mates at other Lodges. It’s fun.

The Australian Army Cadets is the youth military program and organisation of the Australian Army, tasked with supporting participants to contribute to society, fostering interest in Defence Force careers, and developing support for the Force.

The membership of a local Freemasons’ Lodge is likely to include a wide variety of members such as mechanics, engineers, office staff, outdoor workers, as well as doctors, lawyers and professional people.

Every occupation under the sun.

Together in Victoria, we donate about $2 million-$3 million to worthy causes through our Freemasons Foundation. And we roll up our sleeves to volunteer for practical hands-on work such as Bushfire and Disaster relief.

My community life has included membership of Rotary, active participation as a Church Warden at St Paul’s in Kyneton, and as a volunteer at the monthly Farmers’ Market in the Macedon Ranges region.

Freemasonry is not a religion. In fact, we don’t talk about religion or politics at our meetings. Across Victoria, there are many Masonic Centres where Lodges meet. We have 240 Lodges.

Our members are keen on making the world a better place.

Each Freemason has their own belief in a Supreme Being, but that is their own personal business. We work towards self-improvement.

There are about six million Freemasons worldwide. There are 7600 active members in Victoria. These are good men who want to become better men.

In my professional life, I was a school teacher at Ivanhoe. I also worked with young men and women as a Lieutenant-Colonel with the Australian Army Cadets.

We look out for opportunities to support each other. We go out of our way to avoid internal club quarrels.

At a time when the conduct of some males is justifiably under question in society, I thought you might like to know there is a fraternity of men who prize best behaviours, good manners and kindness.

This means becoming better citizens, better husbands and better fathers. For older men, that means being better grandfathers. Often it is the grandparents who play a chief role in bringing tolerance and understanding in families, especially when diversity and inclusion can be challenges.

Men, aged 18 or over, may benefit from considering membership of Freemasons Victoria.

News ‘Night school’ for life lessons

Part of this is to honour the good Freemasons in works of its members. Fascinating and compelling drama based on true events suffers from uneven exposition throughout, however, flaws aside, this little to almost completely unknown from the pages of WWII holds strong interest and focus where it matters most, an entertaining and for the most part well crafted drama that carries an abundance of intellectual stimulation with an off-centre attractiveness and quirkiness that combines to create an entirely credible and enigmatic portrait of an eccentric genius at work.

Dominating the proceedings is Guy Pearce as the flamboyant central character, artist Han Van Meegeren, who delivers an impressively outlandish performance at times belligerent, mulish, idiosyncratic and awkward, but beneath the surface, always supremely confident and in complete control, and is aided superbly by Claes Bang as his hunter interrogator, British Captain Joseph Piller, and supported effective by a fine supporting cast that includes August Diehi, Vicky Krieps and Olivia Grant, to name a few.

Based on the book "The Man Who Made Vermeers" by Jonathan Lopez, and compelled by fine costume design, set design and period detail, the climatic courtroom sequence, which takes up most of the final third act of the story, is simply a knockout, and when all is said and done, it all ultimately reveals a fresh, original, stirring, triumphant and tragic tale, like too many others, will give you plenty to talk and think about afterwards, and have you wondering how many other extraordinary stories like this are out there that we may never know about.

Stars: ***½ Review: A quirky, dysfunctional family set off together on a road trip, but along the way, a robot apocalypse threatens to ruin their plans and possibly end human civilisation as we know it, and suddenly they become humanity's unlikeliest last hope.

Delightfully engaging animation sci-fi comedy-adventure is a wildly colourful ride that punches a hole right into the heart of unrestrained hi-end technology and its power and reliance on day-to-day life unleashes so much visual energy and gags that it commands attention, and no doubt multiple viewings will be required not only by the youngsters in the family, but the adults as well, as the end results for all are highly rewarding.

The stellar voice cast includes Oscar winners Olivia Colman and John Legend, along with Maya Rudolph, Conan O'Brien, Danny McBride, Abbi Jacobson and Eric Andre, and all deliver with superb effect, and as added bonus for adults, there are delightfully subtle references to such films as "Wargames," Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Gremlins," "Chinatown," "Mad Max," "Kill Bill: Volume 1," Alfred Hitchcock's "Dial M For Murder," "Ghostbusters," "Thelma and Louise," and many more.

Overflowing with eye-popping CGI animation and rapid fire editing, Co-Writers/Co-Directors: Michael Rianda, Jeff Rowe, with their Feature Debut, have created a smart, fun, goofy and entertaining romp that throughout its manic madness, at its very core there are welcome moments of poignancy and heart of family conflict, understanding, acceptance and forgiveness.

Rourke’s Reviews Wrath of Man ■ (MA). 118 minutes. Now showing in cinemas.

Although not as tiresomely familiar as many of his previous efforts (Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, The Gentleman), Guy Ritchie's latest crime-related endeavour still feels influenced by other film-makers and movies, while never truly giving its dark, brooding surface genuine depth.

Jason Statham stars as Patrick Hill, a new recruit at Fortico, an L.A. armoured car company.

Despite his barely acceptable field tests, manager Terry (Eddie Marsan) still hires him, due to his previous employment record.

Shown the ropes by department supervisor Bullet (Holt McCallany), Patrick keeps his distance from his fellow colleagues, and it isn't long before we realise that this person has a secret agenda at play.

With the company hit by thieves multiple times in recent months, one wonders what that agenda may be.

Wrath Of Man is a remake of the 2004 French film Le Convoyeur, and while the basic premise remains the same, Ritchie, along with his co-writers Marn Davies and Ivan Atkinson (The Gentleman) make considerable changes to characters and plot points, and while this can give an existing story a fresh perspective, on this occasion it results in a far more conventional, straightforward movie.

Ritchie has moulded Nicolas Boukhrief and Eric Besnard's original script into an attempt to play to his strengths, but too much of this new material is predictable and ultimately hollow, and a lot of the casting merely amplifies this problem. Statham is so untouchable and invincible, that any threat against his character seem redundant, and the revelations about him are far less interesting than those that occurred in Le Convoyeur.

There are also some overly obvious casting choices in regards to particular plot turns. Technically this is an impressive production, in particular the work of cinematographer Alan Stewart (The Gentleman, Aladdin). Wrath Of Man wants to deliver the kind of grim weight that will stick with audiences, but Ritchie reverts to formula too often, relying on typical male posturing, comically salty banter, and spurts of graphic violence, rather than crafting something more complex (yet strangely manages to be almost 30 minutes longer than the 2004 original). The director tries out his Michael Mann routine, mixed in with some early Luc Besson and 70's British crime cinema (such as Villain and Get Carter), entwined in the kind

of classic hardboiled revenge plot RKO used to churn out in the 40s and 50s.

Le Convoyeur ■ (aka Cash Truck) (MA) (2004).

92 minutes.

Movie goers who have been to see Wrath Of Man (now showing in cinemas), may want to track down the 2004 original, which is a very different viewing experience, and has a little more on its mind than just well-executed scenes of brutal violence. As stated above, the basic premise is the same : Alexandre (Albert Dupontel) is the newest employee at an armoured car company, here called Vigilante.

Supervisor Jacques (Jean Dujardin) helps the newbie try to settle in, but his colleagues are an unpredictable lot, especially after it has been announced that the company is being sold to an American firm, meaning many of them will soon be unemployed. Alexandre is a quiet recruit, more focused on a secret plan he wants to see fully realised, one that appears connected to a series of robberies targeted at Vigilante cash trucks.

While Guy Ritchie's remake concentrates on the more familiar, brutal mechanics of the criminal underworld, co-writer/director Nicolas Boukhrief sees his main protagonist in a completely different light, offering a more nuanced, believable character arc, along with sharper delineation of the people around him. The film-maker also touches upon social and cultural inequality, whether it be the worries of those who have insecure employment, or the anger and desperation of communities who live in impoverished or dangerous neighbourhoods.

Dupontel (See You Up There, Irreversible) leads an impressive cast, which also includes Dujardin (two years before his break-out film, OSS-117 : Cairo, Nest Of Spies, and several before his Oscar winning turn in the wonderful The Artist), Francois Berleand (The Transporter, The Chorus), and Philippe Laudenbach (Declaration Of War).

While not as stylistically soupedup as Wrath Of Man, Le Convoyeur is well-made, and manages to detail its players, plot, and themes very effectively within the taut framework of a 90-minute movie, and actually proves bleaker by examining a profit-over-people worldview, seen through the eyes of those who are usually crushed by such ruthless practices, and how it can fracture one's moral integrity and self-worth in the process. Hopefully this will soon turn up on SBS On Demand.

■ Back to Back Theatre presents three performances, Food Court, Ganesh Versus the Third Reich and Small Metal Objects, at this year’s inaugural Rising Festival between May 26 and June 6.

Inspired by its own ensemble of actors with intellectual disabilities, Back to Back Theatre first premiered these three works at the Melbourne International Arts Festival before touring the globe.

Bruce Gladwin, Artistic Director, Back to Back Theatre commented: “When we set out to make these three works, our number one aim was to make theatre that would be truly transformative for an audience. As the late and great Sonia Teuben said: “Theatre should be in your face, it should blow the audience’s minds.” The reality is, in making Small Metal Objects, Food Court and Ganesh Versus the Third Reich it was the artists at Back to Back who were transformed.”

Gideon Obarzanek, Co-Artistic Director, Rising, said: “There are so few theatre companies around the world that make such original, powerful and persistently relevant works about what it is to be human, they deserve to be experienced across generations.

“In Australia we have Back to Back Theatre. Stranded at home rather than touring the world, this unique time has offered a rare opportunity to put together a retrospective of some of their extraordinary seminal works.

Something that has never happened before and is unlikely to happen again.”

Small Metal Objects premiered at the Melbourne International Arts Festival in 2005 and has toured to more than 35 cities across the world. It was awarded New York’s Bessie Award and the Victorian Green Room Award for best theatre production.

The show unfolds amid the pedestrian traffic against the backdrop of the city.

On a raised seating bank with individual sets of headphones, the audience is wired into an intensely personal drama being played out somewhere in the crowd.

Gary and Steve are the kind of men who normally escape notice.

But here they play an inadvertent but pivotal role in the night of two ambitious executives who they’ve arranged to meet for a transaction.

As the intimacy of their situation develops, Small Metal Objects becomes a sly and luminous depiction of everyday issues most take for granted.

Food Court is a near death experience in a suburban wonderland where a small fatality of dignity takes place between The Asian Hut and The Juice Bar. Ganesh Versus the Third Reich premiered in 2011 at the Melbourne International Arts Festival. Its many awards include the Edinburgh International Festival Herald Angel Critics Award, the Helpmann Award for Best Play, three Green Room Awards and the Melbourne Festival Age Critics Award. It has toured to more than 34 cities.

Ganesh Versus the Third Reich begins with the elephant-headed god Ganesh travelling through Nazi Germany to reclaim the Swastika, an ancient Hindu symbol. As this intrepid hero embarks on his journey a second narrative is revealed: the actors themselves begin to feel the weighty responsibility of storytellers and question the ethics of cultural appropriation.

Interwoven in the play’s design is the story of a young man inspired to create a play about Ganesh, god of overcoming obstacles. He is an everyman who must find the strength to overcome the difficulties in his own life, and defend his play and his collaborators against an overbearing colleague.

Early chances in the Doomben

■ Cox Plate winner Sir Dragonet heads the charts in the opening market on the Doomben Cup to be run this Saturday.

The distance is ideal for the Ciaron MaherDavid Eustace star who ran fifth at his last start in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes back on April 17.

The Cup is over 2000 metres, similar to the 2040 metres he covered to win the Cox Plate.

Connections hope they will get damp conditions which suit the stayer best.

The five-year-old by Camelot, the same sire as the recently retired Russian Camelot, has won nearly $5 million in stakemoney, and will be hard to beat if they go that way.

From his 15 starts he has won four with four seconds.

On the second line, is the All Star Mile winner, Mugatoo, who loves the wet.

He too contested the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick, finishing sixth behind Addeybb, the international horse.

Cast your mind back to the wet day at the Valley for the All-Star Mile meeting which was run in damp conditions.

He was prepared by leading New South Wales trainer Kris Lees, who was rubbing his hands in glee, when the rain came at the Valley that day.

He will be right in this, if they do decide to go this way with the six-year-old former international galloper.

He will be in it for a long way and the distance won't worry him.

The James Cummings trained veteran, Avilius hasn't won for many months, but admittedly all in top class events.

He went around in the Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast, and after being a fair way off them in the run home, ran home well for a good fourth, but it has been a long time between drinks.

Next in line, is the Queenslander, Zaaki, prepared by Annabel Neasham, who is consistent.

It was a good effort to win the Hollindale Stakes after drawing out in the car park in barrier fourteen.

However, he overcame that problem, finishing too well for them over the 1800 metres.

If he goes around, he could fill a place being a Queenslander on his home turf.

The top New Zealand mare, Melody Belle, a prolific winner of Group One races in New Zealand, hasn't had conditions to suit of late, and finished well back in 10th spot.

Melody Belle in good on her day, but needs wet conditions to show her best.

Next is another good mare, Shared Ambition, prepared by top mentor Chris Waller.

She stuck on well in the Hollindale, finishing a good third.

She won the Neville Sellwood event at Rosehill over 2000 metres, beating the good galloper, Master of Wine.

The five-year-old mare, will be up there with them for the greater part of the journey.

The Anthony and Sam Freedman trained seven-year-old, Homesman, is a winner of the Australian Cup at Flemington beating Best of Days, by a nose, over this trip.

He finished well back in ninth spot in the Hollindale, and I feel the others might be a bit

Help for horses

■ It's certainly good news that Racing Victoria has taken steps to increase its visibility of former thoroughbred racehorses across the state by introducing a new on-line post-racing platform.

The Off The Track community lays the foundation for a state-based system that will improve

data collection and close the knowledge gap on the ownership and location of ex-racehorses in Victoria.

The free online platform ottcommunity.com.au - will allow retired racehorse owners to claim ownership of their horse.

This will allow them to promote their progress post-racing.

They will be able to take advantage of a range of exclusive content and educational offerings.

All while playing their part to improve horse visibility in Victoria.

The new system will automatically register all thoroughbreds retiring from the Victorian Racing Industry on the OTT Community.

This is whether the retired racehorse transitions to their new home via as the RV post racing program or directly from the care of their trainer or owner.

Current OTT horse owners are being encouraged to register their former racehorses on the OTT community.

Thus, helping Racing Victoria gain a better understanding of those horses that might be two or three times removed from the racing industry.

The platform is designed to support the Victorian racing industry in identifying where possible gaps lay for horses leaving the sport.

This will allow Racing Victoria to tailor its post-racing programs to better meet the needs of its equine stars transitioning to a second career.

Another benefit of the community is the direct access prospective and current OTT horse owners will have to RV's statewide network of acknowledged retrainers to assist them in identifying their perfect next horse, retraining, or providing advice to how to care for their horse.

The community will also incorporate a full circle program for previous owners to be registered as an emergency contact in case the horse requires extra support.

Nine-card event at Yarra Valley ■ Monday (May 10) commenced another full week of harness racing, with Yarra Valley holding a nine event card.

Avenel trainer David Aiken’s Mach ThreeThree Eagles colt My Golden Eagle was a huge victor of the 1650 metre Hi-Style Building Group 3Y0 Maiden, breaking his maiden drought at start number 10 when driven by sixteen year old “apprentice” Cody Crossland who landed his first winner in the sulky.

Taken back to the tail of the field from gate four as raging hot favourite Whiskey And Rye led from the pole, My Golden Eagle was sent forward four wide racing into the final bend and finished full of running in the straight to record a two metre margin over the leader, with Miss Tyler 4.8 metres away in third place after trailing the pacemaker. Raced by Queenslander Diane Reilly, My Golden Eagle a full brother to Mach Doro (29 wins), Flylikeaneagle (19) wins and Higherthananeagle (17 wins) returned a mile rate of 2-02.6.

■ Plenty Valley residents Lee Brennan, Mike and Carmel Audley along with Bec Cartright were winners when Made To Rock, a PetrockLa Pucelle gelding Made To Rock scored in the Yarra Valley Toyota 3Y0 Maiden Pace over 1650 metres.

Trained at Tatura by Bec’s husband Craig Turnbull, Made To Rock driven by “man of the moment” Jack Laugher led throughout from gate four to defeat Our Kinky Boots (one/two) and the heavily supported Buzz Lika Bee which trailed the leader using the sprint lane to no avail finishing a neck behind the runner up. The mile rate 2-00.7.

■ Long time associates Tony Eley, Bob Adamson, Chris Canny, Jim Grant, John Suffern and Terry Wait plus Ed Hoctor were in the winners stall following the victory of 4Y0 Courage Under Fire-Fine Exception gelding Redfox Raider who snared the Ashmore Smash Repairs Lilydale Pace over 1650 metres in a mile rate of 1-58.

Trained and driven by Monegeetta’s David Miles, Redfox Raider exploded away from gate five to lead throughout, winning easily by 3.2 metres from Argh Me Hearty (three wide last lap) by 3.2 metres which is trained at the Miles property. Life Gets Better was third 10 metres back after following the winner.

The boys enjoyed a profitable afternoon as Miss Tyler was third to Made To Rock in the previous race.

■ On what was a great day for life long mates, Bill Hutchison and Rob Molloy shared in a winner with John Murdoch, John Simpson-Morgan, John Williams and Ric Casey when their Kiwi bred 6Y0 Quite Easy-Lucky Monarch gelding Easy Pickings greeted the judge in the 2150 metre IGA Liquor Trotters Handicap.

Trained at Long Forest by Andy Gath, Easy Pickings driven by wife Kate stepped safely from 10 metres to settle four back along the markers as Express Yourself began best to lead from barrier three.

Angling away from the markers at the bell to race exposed for the final circuit, Easy Pickings crossed to lead prior to the home turn and careered away to record a huge 17.8 metre margin in a rate of 2-04.8 over Sovereign Minx which followed him home. Emerald Hill (three back the markers) was third 4.1 metres back.

Easy Pickings won again at Shepparton on Friday after racing in the open, accounting for Patched (four back the markers) and Allwoods Sunbeam from mid-field in 2-05.2

■ Ararat raced on Tuesday and those who braved the elements saw some handy horses competing including Terang trainer Matty Horsnell’s recent stable addition Me Pat Malone, a lightly raced 7Y0 gelding by Julius Caesar from Me Dolli Kit bred by Dunnstown’s Murphy family who was successful in the McGrath Family – Lets Find A Cure Trotters Mobile over 2195 metres.

■ Terang trainer Mattie Craven’s promising 4Y0 Art Major-Heavenly Bread mare Helgart driven by Sofia Arvidsson led throughout from the pole to land the Elders Rural Help Fight The Fight Pace over 1790 metres.

With plenty of challengers on turning, Helgart defied them all to score by a nack from Duty Bound along the sprint lane after trailing, with Soho Senna (one/one – three wide home turn) third 3.6 metres away. The mile rate 1-58.3. It was Helgart’s 4th victory in 16 outings.

■ One person who probably didn’t feel the cold was Concongella part-owner Ken Taylor after his 5Y0 Jet Laag-Its Gamo On mare Fiftyshades Cresco at start number 41 broke her maiden status by taking the 1790 metre Henderson Family – Early Detection Saves Lives Pace with Grant Campbell in the sulky.

Given a cosy trip from the pole following the pacemaker Cullectngo (gate three), Fiftyshades Cresco used the sprint lane to perfection, blousing the leader by a head, with Pinnacle Hope third a head away off a three wide trail last lap following a bad beginning from gate six. The mile rate 2-03.6.

■ It’s very rare for local reinsman Michael Bellman not to win a race at an Ararat meeting and he kept his average intact when successful aboard Allendale owner/trainer Adam Stephens’ 4Y0 Bettors Delight-Lombo Madam Lashe gelding Silver Domino in the Athalie – Feel For Lumps Save Your Bumps Pace over 1790 metres.

Angling to trail the leader Rocknroll Opal (gate 3) inside him as the start was effected, Silver Domino came away from the inside to be poised one/one approaching the home turn to follow Wotchawaitingfor which had gone forward to race exposed shortly after the start from a solo second line draw.

When Wotchawaitingfor took care of the leader, Silver Domino was in hot pursuit and was too dominant to prevail by 5 metres on the wire, returning a rate of 1-59.2. Wingate Guy a stablemate of the winner was third 2.7 metres back from three back in the moving line.

At Geelong

■ Geelong held an even program on Wednesday and Maryborough owners Mark and Sue Hayes were winners when their home bred Danny Bouchea-Motu Paulina 5Y0 gelding The Night King led throughout from the pole in the Devcon Properties Maiden Trotters Mobile over 2100 metres, but not before giving his backers a few worries.

Driven by Tina Ridis, The Night King after an easy trip was passed narrowly by both Perseverance which had raced outside him and Desdemona which had made a lightning move three wide from mid-field on the final bend but

couldn’t cross. Rallying on turning, The Night King went into another gear and raced away to score by 12.8 metres from Bacardi Chic (one/ one) which switched down to trail approaching the home turn, with Desdemona third 1.3 metres away after weakening on her run. The mile rate a leisurely 2-07.

■ Meredith co-trainers Emmett and Richard Brosnan snared the Volstead @ Haras De Trotteurs Maiden Trotters Mobile over 2100 metres with Baltica, a 6Y0 The Pres-Baltic Sun mare who was having only her second start.

Coming off an eye catching third at the same track on April 28, Baltica driven by Emmett settled four back along the markers from gate two as Loose Cash flew away from gate five to lead. Coming away from the markers mid-race to race in the open, Batica surged clear on the home turn to score by 22 metres from Loose Cash and Orlandos Gift (three back the markers – one/one at bell) who was a neck back third.

■ Bannockburn trainer/driver Geoff Webster received a belated birthday present when smart Majestic Son-Icantremember gelding Bromwich landed the 2100 metre Haras De Trotteurs 3Y0 Trotters Mobile with Greg Sugars in the sulky, returning a mile rate of 2-06.

Trapped three wide from outside the front line, Bromwich let rip with a great turn of speed in the back straight on the first occasion to cross the polemark pacemaker Aldebaran Gwen and after being rated to perfection, registered a 3 metre victory in advance of Whos The Man who raced uncovered from the bell. Bullapark Bend (one/one) was third 10 metres away.

■ Surf Coast (Wordiboluc) part-owner/trainer/ driver Chris Romanidis’ 4Y0 A Rocknroll Dance-Calculating gelding Calculating Dancer began brilliantly from gate five to lead all of the way in the Vale Frank Costa Maiden Pace over 2100 metres.

Kicking away in the last lap to turn with a handy margin, Calculating Dancer had 6.2 metes to spare on the wire, accounting for Lenny Tee which ran home strongly from near last, with first starter Pedantic 3 metres back in third place after doing a lot of chasing. The mile rate 202.1.
