SEAFORD TRAGEDY: MURDER ARREST

Police officer charged ■ A Police sergeant has been charged following an internal investigation. The male sergeant, from Southern Metro Region, was charged with two counts of summary assault. The alleged incident is said to have taken place in November last year while the officer was on duty. He has been suspended with pay and will be summoned to appear at a Magistrates’ Court at a later date.

Greater Dandenong’s summer of myths ■ Greater Dandenong Libraries is calling on all primary school aged children to join the Summer Reading Club to discover lots of reading fun and a chance to win some great prizes. The program was scheduled to be launched yesterday (Tues.), focused on a theme of myths, fairytales and legends. This theme encourages young readers to discover stories as they explore and connect with a range of interactive activities available in the library and online, entering the world of imagination where stories that have been shared through generations.

The Summer Reading Club is part of the Libraries Change Lives Campaign which aims to raise awareness of the ways in which libraries can have a positive effect on the community. The launch will to take place online with students from Dandenong West Primary School and Wooranna Park Primary School to be attending. Special guest for the launch was to be Wendy Orr (pictured), who is an author of several children’s books, including Nim’s Island which has been adapted into a feature film.

■ POLICE have laid charges after the ftally stabbing of Langwarrin 26-year-old Cam Smith at Seaford last week. Jack Ledlin, 19, from Somers was charged with the murder of Mr Smith. Police allege Ledlin stabbed Cameron in an unprovoked attack. The court heard th alleged incident was caught on CCTV, and will play a crucial role in the investigation. Ledlin was remanded in custody and did not apply for bail. He appeared at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court where he was further remanded to March 25 for a committal mention hearing. A 21-year-old Somers woman has been charged with affray and assault and was toface court later. An 18-year-old Frankston man was arrested at an address in Carrum Downs. Homicide Squad detectives arrested a fourth person. A 17-year-old male from Frankston, was charged with affray, intentionally cause injury and commit offences whilst on bail. He has been bailed appear at a Children’s Court at a later date.

● Police want to talk with his man. ■ Police are appealing for public assistance after a man was assaulted in Safety Beach last month. Investigators were told an unidentified man approached an on-duty security guard and verbally abused him before pushing and head-butting him outside the front of a marina on Marine Drive about 10.15pm on October 15. The victim, a 19-year-old Lyndhurst man, sustained minor injuries during the incident. The wanted man is described as 185cm tall, messy brown hair, aged between 30 and 40 years-of-age wearing a green jacket, black track pants, black pull-on boots and was carrying a fishing rod.
