MP’S PERSONAL SLUR ON DEPUTY MAYOR

■ YAN YEAN MLA Danielle Green has launched an extraordinary attack in State Parliament against Nillumbik Shire Deputy Mayor Cr Peter Clarke.

Ms Green used Parliamentary Privilege to accuse Cr Clarke of breaching COVID-19 regulations, breaching the Nillumbik Shire Councillor Code of Conduct and bullying.

Cr Clarke says that Ms Green’s accusations are a “fabrication”, and that he will lodge a formal complaint against her with State Parliament’s Privileges Committee.

In Parliament last week, Ms Green said: “Cr Clarke you may think that you’ve gotten away with numerous corruptions of local government laws and regulations during your past four years in office, but the rules actually do apply to you too.

“I sincerely hope the Police throw the book at you and fine you for breaching the lockdown and potentially endangering the health of my constituents,” Ms Green said.

Cr Clarke says the personal slur followed a Tribunal case over Ms Green’s past tenancy at a Diamond Creek property owned by his brotherin-law. Ms Green had to fight to get the return of her bond over damage claims. Turn To P3

More grants cash

■ Whittlesea Council has reimagined some of the community grant programs to support community connectedness.

The Community Group Support Grant Program is a one-time only opportunity with funding of up to $2000 is available to support community groups to reconnect with each other by resuming pre-COVID activities or transitioning to new ways of operating.

B’bank re-opens ■ Brimbank Council is able to reopen some select spaces and services this week. Outdoor playgrounds, off leash dog parks and outdoor exercise equipment will re-open for use, with physical distancing and group number limits in place.

Llibraries will bring back the Click and Collect service for members.

Compulsory move

■ Monash Council has compulsory acquired part of a parcel of land (2,720m2) that abuts Scotchmans Creek in Mount Waverley to preserve it as open space and to ensure the continuation of a section of the Scotchmans Creek Trail. Council is planning to relocate the path from its current location to move it closer to the creek to sit on the land that has been acquired.

Plans for Kilsyth

■ Yarra Ranges Shire Council has adopted its Master Plan for the Elizabeth Bridge Reserve in Kilsyth, a document that maps out how the reserve will look in the coming 10 years.

The Master Plan proposes improvements to the reserve, including expanding the path network in the reserve.

Industrial boost

■ Mitchell Council has endorsed the start of a formal process that proposes the rezoning of land to meet future industrial and business needs. The land at 470 SeymourTooborac Rd, Hilldene will have the ability to support jobs and investment in the medium to longer term with a planning scheme amendment drafted that proposes the rezoning of 53 hectares of land.

■ Tania Maxwell, Northern Victoria MLC, is calling for tougher checkpoint checks on public transport into regional areas from Melbourne ahead of restrictions easing which are expected to come into effect in regional Victoria this week.

MP’s slur: Clarke hits back ■ Nillumbik Shire Deputy Mayor Cr Peter Clarke has hit back at Yan Yean MLA Danielle Green’s personal slur on him made under Parliamentary Privilege.

Ms Green accused Cr Clarke of breaking COVID-19 laws, breaching Councillor Conduct rules, and bullying.

Cr Clarke accused Ms Green of “appalling lies”, and says her “obsession at attacking me stems from her eviction from a property in Diamond Creek she rented that is owned by my brother-in-law”.

“The agent and he then took her to the Victorian Civil andAdministrative Tribunal for damages beyond her bond,” Cr Clarke said.

“Her VCAT appearance caused bad press for her which she blames on me. I had no involvement.”

Damage at rented home: claim ● Lily Macneil Police are appealing for public as sistance to help locate missing teen ager Lily Macneil. The 16-year-old was last seen in Reservoir about 7.15pm onThursday (Sept. 10). Police and family are concerned for Lily’s welfare due to her age.

Lily is described as being about 160cm tall, with long brown hair and has a thin build.

She was last seen wearing a a hooded top, blue jeans and Nike TN sneakers and is known frequent the Airport West, Heidelberg, Hampton and Templestowe areas.

Whittlesea City Council’s new CEO Craig Lloyd intends to continue living in Alexandra for the time being.

“It was a politically motivated attack, and those responsible for it are still making a whispering campaign, trying to make mischief about the fact that I am a tenant,” Ms Green told Parliament last year.

“I want to actually tell the house about one of the particularly odious attacks that were made on me and my credibility.”

Ms Green said that she had written permission to have a female dog, Bella, but the agents claimed she did not have authority to have a male Staffy, Bailey.

Bella had a 40-minute fight with a kangaroo at Diamond Creek, and both animals had to be4 put down.

Complaints against Green ■ Cr Peter Clarke says he intends to make an official complant against Yan Yean MLA Danielle Green to the Privileges Committee of State Parliament.

Thornbury teen arrested ■ Fawkner Embona and Wayward Taskforces investigators have arrested four people in a stolen vehicle in Jacana on Friday (Sept. 11).

Police will allege the vehicle was one of two stolen during an armed robbery in Coburg.

The victim was threatened and slashed across the hand with a pair of scissors.

The 33-year-old woman was transported to hospital with a serious hand injury.

A 15-year-old girl from Coburg was charged with armed robbery, burglary, theft, intentionally and recklessly cause injury, theft of motor vehicle and commit an indictable offence on bail.

A 15-year-old boy from Thornbury was charged with theft of motor vehicle and commit an indictable offence whilst bail.

A 14-year-old boy from Coburg was charged with armed robbery, burglary, theft, theft of motor vehicle and commit an indictable offence whilst on bail.

All three have been bailed to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

A 19-year-old man from Jacana was charged with theft of motor vehicle, possess cannabis and possess a dangerous article.

Inner-North crime crackdown ■ Police from North West Metro Region and Crime Command have arrested more than 30 people as part of an ongoing joint operation targeting criminal activity in the Collingwood area.

The operation has focused on a number of street and youth gangs known to have a significant presence in the City of Yarra, as well as persons of interest linked to offending such as armed robberies, aggravated burglaries, assaults, drugs, and weapons offences.

It was designed to proactively work to dismantle and disrupt series of offending, as well as investigate a number of previous incidents.

The operation was jointly led by Melbourne Embona Task Force and the Gang Crime Squad and involved a number of other police units.

This has included a range of covert and intelligence gathering activities, with the enforcement phase of the operation commencing last month.

This included a day of action on August 31, with warrants executed at addresses in Fitzroy, Cobblebank, Reservoir, Tarneit, Altona North, Footscray West, Kurunjang, North Melbourne, Collingwood, Fitzroy North and Point Cook.

They were charged with a range of offences including armed robbery, handle stolen goods,

These roles offer people of all ages the opportunity to connect with members of their local community – an ideal antidote to COVID-19 restrictions which have left many feeling isolated.

Both the ‘Be Connected’ Digital Mentor and FReeZA Committee Member roles can be conducted online and are not affected by any COVID-19 restrictions.

The Environmental Works Team and L2P Mentors are face-to-face roles which will commence once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and it is safe to do so, but we would love to have a team of volunteers ready to call upon when we can.

Expressions of interest for all roles are open now and we encourage residents to sign up soon as places are limited.

Darebin Awards ● Police made 30 local arrests. possess proceeds of crime, theft, unlawful assault, obtain property by deception, criminal damage, intentionally cause injury, affray, false imprisonment and bail offences.

Five of the males were remanded in custody as a result.

Ten people were arrested on the day as a result, all males aged between 17 and 20 years of age.

Since July, overall police have arrested 32 people as part of the operation, with 21 of those people charged. Eleven of the people charged were remanded in custody. A further 12 people will be charged on summons, including one person who was arrested twice.

■ There will soon be a launch for a call for nominations for the Darebin Community Awards, which will be awarded at a ceremony in March.

Wayne apologises

■ Cr Wayne Phillips lodged an apology for not attending last week’s meeting of Banyule City Council. Another ordinary meeting of Council is scheduled to be held on Monday (Sept. 21).

Ivanhoe barriers ■ Banyule Council is planning for permanent barriers on Waterdale Rd, Ivanhoe, south of Upper Heidelberg Rd. A further report will be put to Councillors for next week’s City meeting.

3-storey units Sir, An application for a planning permit has been submitted to Banyule Council for a three- storey complex, comprising of 24 apartments and an underground car park for 42 cars.

Developers plan to demolish two homes for this development.

Hillside Road is always described as the best street in Rosanna, its proximity to Rosanna train station and various other amenities have made is a sought-after street.

Developers now plan to destroy the character of the street with their three-storey apartment complex.

Residents of Hillside Rd and surrounding streets are outraged. There has been strong objections from the local community.

Over a two-week period 420 people signed petitions.

It is my understanding that many residents have also lodged objections, by the end of the first week from when advertising notice was placed, 21 objections had already been lodged with Banyule planning section.

I suspect that number more than doubled

by September 8 when the advertising period ended.

Hillside residents are very concerned, if this proposal is allowed it will bad precedent for the neighbouring streets Rosanna.

The character and charm of the quiet streets of Rosanna will be gone. There are two other three-storey developments in Rosanna.

One is located on Beetham Parade alongside Rosanna train station which is actually a commercial zone.

The other complex is located at 175 Lower Plenty Road, this is a major road and the apartment block is located across from parklands.

The undulating landscape also allows for this building to blend in with the properties located on each side of it.

You cannot compare these two development with the proposal at 25-27 Hillside Rd. Apart from the developers no-one else sets to benefit from this proposal.

I believe with the downward turn in migration high density living is no longer a major requirement.

Even if developers are unable to sell the apartments they still win by claiming tax losses.

Appartments end up on airBnB as nightly rentals for parties. What this state lacks is single-storey units for our senior citizens.

Instead older couples are forced to remain in their large family homes until they die or have are forced to into aged care facilities.

There are no single-storey units which allow these people to downside and live a comfortable retirement.

What The Papers Say Yan Yean’s role

■ The community is being asked for feedback on the design of stage two of the Yan Yean Rd upgrade.

The project’s environment effects statement has been made available to the public through an exhibition that started on Wednesday and is open until October 9.

The statement examined the potential environmental, social, cultural and economic impacts of the upgrade and how they will be managed during construction and beyond.

■ Warrandyte Football Club is on the hunt for a new Senior Coach and President after Anthony McGregor and Jason Smith parted ways with the Bloods.

Ray had been a Freemason for 64 years.

Diamond Creek Trail OK’d ■ The North-East can look forward to enjoying extended cycling and walking trails thanks to $5 million from the Victorian Government that will create local jobs and boost the economy.

Nillumbik Shire Council will be allocated the funds to construct an additional 3.2 kilometres of trails under stage 2 of the Diamond Creek Trail Extension, bringing the Government’s total investment to $9.1 million.

Stage 2, which will create 100 new jobs over the next 12 months, will extend the existing trail from Wattle Glen to Hurstbridge, creating a continuation of the trail from Diamond Creek all the way to Hurstbridge. It will also include the construction of six new bridges as part of the trail alignment to Hurstbridge.

Police seek Ashton ■ Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate missing teenager Ashton Richardson.

The 14-year-old was last seen in Northcote on August 30.

He is known to frequent the Bendigo and Eaglehawk areas.

Ashton is described as 160cm tall with a thin build and has shoulder-length brown hair.

Investigators have released an image of Ashton in the hope someone may have seen him and can provide information regarding his whereabouts.

Anyone with information about Ashton is urged to contact Northcote Police Station on 5403 0200.

Mr A. Harris was elected President and Miss E. Wigham Secretary. The club will hold a grand ball and euchre party on the evening of the 15th October in the Public Hall, and promise a good evening's enjoyment. An opening day will be held on the 16th. The courts are now undergoing repairs.

■ Darebin Council is staging the Fuse Festival until November 29. It includes nearly 50 events to be enjoyed while observing COVID-19 restrictions that may be in place.

■ There passed away at her daughter's residence, Bendigo, on August 18th, one who deserves more than a passing notice. I allude to the late Christina Stewart, who, with her first husband, the late John McDonald, arrived on the Plenty in the year 1851. They, with several other Scotch families, came to the colony under engagement to Captain McPherson, who at that time was an extensive squatter in the valley of the Plenty and out to Arthur's Creek. Mrs Stewart, many years ago, some time after her first husband’s death, married Mr Cornelius Stewart, who is still living. Shortly after the deceased arrived in this district the bush- fires swept the countryside destroying sheep, as well as leaving the country desolate. Mrs Stewart and her first husband then took a situation with the well-known and highly respected Frank Owens, where for some time they assisted in dairying.

‘Together we will get through this’ ■ Danielle Green, Yan Yean MLA, spoke in State Parliament this month about the COVID-19 crisis: “I join the debate in support of the Public Health and Wellbeing Amendment (State of Emergency Extension and Other Matters) Bill 2020, specifically in relation to the state-ofemergency powers, and I indicate that I oppose the politically motivated amendments proposed by the Leader of the Opposition.

“We’ve all got COVID overload and want our lives to return to some form of normality, so it is understandable to be alarmed at concepts and regulations that are rarely used.

“On Monday, August 24, the Premier announced that legislative changes will be introduced into the Victorian Parliament to ensure that public health directions protecting Victorians from coronavirus can continue to be enforced.

“The main experience that Victorians have of state-of-emergency (SOE) and state-of-disaster powers is in the context of bushfires.

“Almost no Victorian alive has lived during a world pandemic. Only the few that are over 100 years old are able to claim that.

“Some of the key public health protections required to manage this pandemic are only available when a state of emergency has been declared.

“It is necessary to amend the legislation so that a state of emergency, and powers under it, can continue to be used beyond mid-September, when the current SOE expires.

“For starters let me be clear. This extension has nothing to do with the current Stage 4 restrictions and lockdown rules, which end on September 13.

“This is not about keeping the lockdowns going—the Leader of the Opposition knows this, and it was disappointing in the extreme that he began his speech to this Parliament misleading the community that these proposals will see a six-month extension of lockdown when clearly they will not.

“It’s shame that the Liberal and National parties in Victoria have been unable to emulate their Canberra counterparts and work collaboratively across party lines for the good of the community.

“Our country has not seen a threat like this except during bushfires and the two great wars. The community has welcomed the establishment of the national cabinet and the mostly argument-free work that has come from that unprecedented collaboration.

“We have actually been in the state of emergency since March of this year. Even when our restaurants and gyms were reopened, we were in the state of emergency.

“Other states are also in a state of emergency, but their legal time frames have no time limits on them.

“Victoria’s proposed extension is limited—it means that the state of emergency will be reviewed every four weeks.

“We also need to amend the legislation so that a state of emergency, and powers under it, can continue to be used to protect the community and the economy when there are low or no cases in Victoria.

“Some have questioned why there is a need for powers when there’s low or no cases in Victoria - that is because we want to keep it that way.

“I am gobsmacked that three of

It beggars belief that they voted against additional protections for regional Victorians from visitation by Melburnians during this period while the virus is way more prevalent in Melbourne.

“It will enable continued restrictions for things like wearing face masks in public or requiring workplaces and venues to have a COVIDsafe plan or mandating a person to self-isolate when they are diagnosed with Coronavirus.

“If the Parliament does not extend the state of emergency, the chief health officer will not have the necessary power to retain and make these restrictions to keep us safe.

“For our economy to recover we need the right scaffolding to support our businesses reopening and to start from a sustainable base. And that means carefully stepping out of the health crisis so that confidence returns.

“Until there is a vaccine, our community needs to continue our fight against Coronavirus.

“By extending the state of emergency, we can continue efforts to keep all Victorians safe and get through this as quickly as possible.

“If we can end the state of emergency sooner, we will. Does extending the state of emergency mean extending the current restrictions?

“No. It does not change how long our current lockdown will last or increase the restrictions in place.

“It just means that a state of emergency can continue only if required until mid-March 2021.

“Some of our current protections that are in place under the state of emergency will remain necessary beyond mid-September this year, when the state of emergency would otherwise expire.

“For example, people diagnosed with Coronavirus would still be required to self-isolate.

“How is the state of emergency reviewed? The Minister for Health makes the declaration of a state of emergency based on the advice of the chief health officer.

“The state of emergency is reviewed every four weeks. It is only

■ Little acts of kindness—it’s been heartwarming to see and hear stories of community members going out of their way to bring cheer to their neighbours. Whether it’s putting a lovely letter or pseudoscience and go back to selling furniture.

Victorian Arts Design Week Melbourne Design Week, Australia's premier event showcasing local and international design returns in 2021 and expressions of interest are now open to participate on the Victoria-wide 11-day program of talks, tours, workshops, launches and exhibitions.

Observations The Story Behind The Letter

■ In 1984 my aunt, Zoe Caldwell, came to Melbourne with her husband, Broadway producer Robert Whitehead and their two children, Sam and Charlie.

She opened the new Playhouse Theatre at the Victorian Arts Centre with the Robinson Jeffers's adaptation of Euripides' Medea.

Robert directed this Melbourne Theatre Company production. At that time he was also producing Arthur Miller's Broadway show, Death of a Salesman, starring Dustin Hoffmann.

While in Melbourne, the family received a letter from their old friend and Robert's tennis partner, Kate Hepburn.

She told Robert not to worry about being away from New York. She was pleased that things were going well with Medea and suggested they go to Sherbrooke Forest in the Dandenong Ranges to see the lyrebird and also to the Great Barrier Reef, which, she said, are all much more fun than Dustin Hoffmann.

I drove my uncle Robert and young cousins to Sherbrooke Forest for a picnic but we didn't see a lyrebird that day.

When Zoe left Melbourne she gave me Kate Hepburn's handwritten letter as a momento but I puzzled over why Kate had suggested they visit Sherbrooke which led me to research the background. This is the story behind the letter.

In 1955, when in Australia on tour with the Old Vic theatre company, Katharine Hepburn visited the Dandenongs several times during the tour in Melbourne.

She spent many hours watching the birds in the company of a Sherbrooke Forest local, a young boy, who told her of their habits and where to find them.

She took Robert Helpmann to Sherbrooke Forest to see the lyrebird's mating dance on its mound.

Some time after, Helpmann claimed to have had a dream in which Hepburn was seen dancing naked on a mound surrounded by lyrebirds.

The dream heightened his fascination for the bird's mating dance and was the impetus for his choreography of The Display, his first production for the Australian Ballet and performed in 1964.

The story of The Display centred around a bush picnic in which a bunch of young footballers start drinking and fight over a girl.

She is raped and left lying exhausted on the ground. This dramatic ballet opens with the dance of a lyrebird behind gauze and the bird reappears in the final scene dancing around the girl with its tail fully displayed until he holds her in his fanned plumage.

Helpmann engaged Sidney Nolan for set design and Carlton Football Club coach, Ron Barassi, to coach the dancers' football moves.

Through Katharine's captivation with the lyrebird and Helpmann's subsequent dream the ballet was created. Helpmann dedicated the ballet to Katharine. I was inspired to write a poem titled The Display which tells the story of this creation.

■ Following the Victorian Premier’s COVID roadmap announcement, the Board of the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues confirms the 2020 festival will proceed as a streamed online event from Friday, October 30 to Sunday, November 1.

In recent months the festival had developed a mix of both in person and online presentation options. Whilst the road map provides a better understanding of the way forward, it also presents challenges, so in light of the restrictions within the announcement, it is not feasible to proceed with live audience events this year. n 2019, the Board and the artistic team had decided on an all-Australian program as fitting to celebrate the anniversary festival.

The full program and streaming details will be announced on Monday, September 28.

Patriot Day 2020

■ Patriot Day is an annual observance on September 11 to remember those who were injured or died during the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001. Many Americans refer to Patriot Day as 9/11 or September 11.

On the direction of the President, the flag of the United States of America should be displayed on the homes of Americans, the White House and all United States government buildings in the whole world.

The flag should be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect to those who died on September 11, 2001. Many people observe a moment of silence at 8:46 AM (Eastern Daylight Time).

This marks the time that the first plane flew into the World Trade Center. Some communities, particularly in the areas directly affected by the attacks, hold special church services or prayer meetings.

People who personally experienced the events in 2001 or lost loved ones in them, may lay flowers or visit memorials.

The King Under Attack ■ Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion was defaced with graffiti reading ‘Black Lives Matter’, ‘Defund MPD’ referring to the Memphis Police Department and ‘Eat the Rich’, leaving the historic home with around $150,000 in damage.

The mansion, which appears on the National Register of Historic Places, is now a museum dedicated to the life of Elvis Presley, who built the home and owned until he died in 1977.

Elvis's daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, is now the owner and caretaker of the mansion, which recently underwent an extensive renovation.

Memphis, Tennessee, where Graceland is located, like many major cities, has seen its share of unrest in the wake of George Floyd's death while in the custody of the Minneapolis Police Department and also like many major cities, Memphis has experienced a dramatic rise in crime this summer.

According to USA Today, Memphis is one of the primary targets of Operation Legend, which seeks to bolster urban police departments with specialty agents of the federal government agents of the FBI, the DEA, and the ATF. Memphis received a deployment of 40 federal agents back in July, in Operation Legend's second wave.

The unrest turned destructive this week when rioters targeted Graceland and the adjoining Levitt Stadium, where Elvis Presley gave his first paid concert.

"The walls outside of Graceland in Memphis, Tenn., were tagged with graffiti by vandals, with phrases like 'BLM' and 'No Justice No Peace,'" Fox News reported.

"Fox 13 reporter Shelia O'Connor tweeted out photographs of the damaged walls, which included messages about the death of Breonna Taylor who was killed in Louisville while police were serving a no-knock warrant on her home."

Peaceful protests OK ■ Americans across racial lines remain overwhelmingly opposed to violent protest to "improve the situation of black Americans with 73 per cent of respondents indicating it tends to "hurt" that cause, according to a new Gallup poll just released. The poll found a higher percentage of white Americans opposed violent protest (79 per cent) than black Americans (59 per cfent). Both groups overwhelming agree that nonviolent protest helps blacks, with 78 per cent of whites supporting it and 72 per cent of blacks. Gallup based data on June 8-July 24 survey of US adults. The polling company noted that "Since Gallup last polled on this subject in 1988, there have been meaningful increases in the percentages of Americans saying that nonviolent protest, violent protest and economic boycotts, in particular, can help. Opinions on the effectiveness of legal action are little changed."

Robin’s final days

■ Robin Williams' self-inflicted death on Aug. 11, 2014, at the age of 63 shocked the world, not only because few knew that the acclaimed actor had been suffering in any way, but because despite his history of substance-abuse problems, his effusive, uninhibited, hyperactive spirit was so joyous and infectious that it simply didn't gibe with suicide.

With no concrete explanation for why he'd taken his own life, the media filled in the gaps with wild speculation about depression, drugs, and financial woes. None of those guesses, however, did anything to alleviate the sheer mystery of it all. It was simply incomprehensible to fans, friends and family.

And, as Robin's Wish makes clear, it also didn't make sense to Williams himself.

Tylor Norwood's new documentary is an intimate look at the final days of the Hollywood star, whose success as both a comedian and a dramatic actor made him one of his era's most beloved headliners. Considering that focus, it's far from a comprehensive non-fiction biopic; those looking for copious movie clips, or a chronological timeline of his professional and personal ups and downs, will have to look elsewhere. Yet while that narrow perspective does much to hamper its impact, it nonetheless achieves its limited primary goal: bringing to light the fact that, rather than a man who killed himself simply out of unhappiness or addiction, Williams was a victim of a little-known condition that left him mentally and physically compromised, unsure of himself, and terrifyingly adrift.

■ More than half of all storefronts in San Francisco are no longer in business, according to the survey by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce. "The survey showed only 46 per cent of storefront businesses in San Francisco that were open at the beginning of the pandemic are still operating," said Jay Cheng, spokesman of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce. That means 1200 stores are still open, while about 1300 have closed, Cheng said. "There's a lot of reasons for that. If you're a fitness studio, you can't open because of the pandemic. The outbreak of the coronavirus in January and implementation of lockdown orders in March forced couples to manage a plethora of new challenges.

The combination of quarantine life, wavering finances, mounting unemployment rates, illnesses, deaths of loved ones, mental illness and child care has led Americans lawyers to predict a record number of divorce filings.

■ There were two major dancing teams in Hollywood films - Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, and then Marge and Gower Champion.

Marge and Gower appeared in MGM musical films during the 1950s.

Marge was born, Marjorie Celeste Belcher, in Los Angeles, California, in 1919. She began dancing and teaching at an early age.

In 1935 Marge was hired by the Walt Disney Studios to be a live action model for Snow White in the animated feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

In later years Marge also became a model for The Blue Fairy in Pinocchio and the Dancing Hippo in Fantasia.

In 1937 Marge married Art Babbitt from the Disney Studios but the marriage only lasted for three years.

Gower Champion was born in 1919 and worked as a dancer on Broadway prior to World War II in which he served as a member of the US Coast Guard.

After the war he resumed his career and met Marge, who became his dancing partner.

They married in 1947 and became popular through their marvelous performances in the MGM remake of Showboat in 1951.

Their song, Life upon the Wicked Stage, was a standout in the film. This led to other roles as a singing dance team in films such as Mr Music, Jupiter's Darling and Three for the Show.

Whatever Happened To ...

Marge Champion

MGM had plans to use Marge and Gower in remakes of the old Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers RKO films.

This only happened once when Roberta was remade under the title of Lovely to Look At. They starred in their own television series The Marge and Gower Champion Show in 1957.

They had two children together but sadly, their son Blake was killed in a car crash at the age of 25.

Gower became a very successful Broadway director and won eight Tony Awards in his career.

Marge had good character roles in films such

as The Swimmer with Burt Lancaster, and The Party with Peter Sellers. Marge continued to work on Broadway after her marriage to Gower ended in 1973. Four years later she married the director Boris Segal. In 2001 Marge starred in a revival of Stephen Sondheim's Follies and sang four songs in the production at the Belasco Theatre on Broadway.

Sadly, Gower Champion passed away on the opening night of a stage production on Broadway in 1980. Gower had choreographed 42nd Street and after numerous curtain calls the producer David Merrick announced to the cast and audience the sad news that Gower had died that afternoon.

Marge Champion was a member of the nominating committee for the Tony Awards on Broadway from 1991-98 judging all the shows. These days Marge Champion is 98 and lives in New York.

Will we ever see this type of singing and dancing team in films in the future? Who knows - my guess is probably not.

● Bay City Rollers ■ I well remember when the all boy band, Bay City Rollers, hit Australian shores. It was hysteria from coast to coast. One bubble gum member was guitarist Ian Mitchell, the only Irishman in the Scottish group.

During his short stay as a Roller he played on some of the best selling numbers, Dedication, and I only want to be like you.

After touring Australia, Ian quit the band and went to live and work in California. He took a day job as a computer programmer, combined with session work playing guitar. Next step was as a motivational speaker prior to his untimely death this month, aged 62.

Robbie changes address

■ Robbie Williams has packed up his favourite possessions, wife and four kids to relocate from Malibu to half way up a Swiss mountain in order to escape Coronavirus.

Robbie does admit to becoming stir crazy with no immediate live appearances on the agenda yet he does admit he loves the company of his wife and kids. Please send us a postcard, Robbie.

New co-host for Studio 10

■ Ten has announced Tristan McManus is to be the new co-host of Studio 10 alongside Sarah Harris.

Who is Tristan McManus? His main claim to fame is as a judge on Dancing With The Stars. Trained as a professional dancer he is said to have an engaging personality and should interact well with the rest of the regulars on the morning show. Time will tell.

TV breakfast battle

■ For the first time for yonks Nine’s Today has beaten Seven’s Sunrise for audience share in Melbourne. Winning difference is 3000 pairs of eyeballs, Today has lifted its game of late and doing well in most markets, particularly on the eastern seaboard.

Judith Durham’s release

■ Our Judith has returned to the studio but without the rest of the Seekers.

Judith has released a limited edition of a superb track All in a Day’s Work sung in conjunction with bush poet and drover Lance Lawrence.

Superbly engineered you would swear you were in Arnham Land as the two recount life in the outback mustering cattle. The track runs for ten minutes and is available via theseekers website. Judith sounds as good as ever.

Stars: *** Review: When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, the eldest daughter of an honoured warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father by masquerading as a man, and along the way must find her inner-strength and embrace her true potential, that will transform her into an honoured warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a father.

Originally intended for theatres, this latest Disney live-action reimagining of the 1998 animated Oscar nominated film of the same name, based on the Chinese folklore "The Ballad of Mulan," is a major step up from some of the more recent Disney's live action efforts, and even though it doesn't quite reach the more richly acceptable heights of its animated predecessor, this is still nonetheless a sweeping coming-of-age tale that is both epic and at times intoxicating with its finely tuned emotional intimacy, energetic drive and beautifully textured wide canvas steeped in Chinese mythology and martial arts warfare.

Directed by Niki Caro, whose previous credits include the superb "Whale Rider" 2002 and more recently "The Zookeeper's Wife" (2017), the breathtaking cast kicks off an emotionally sensitive yet fiercely captivating performance by Yifei Liu as Mulan, along with a host well established and revered Chinese super-stars that includes Jason Scott Lee (Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story/1993) as the villain, Donnie Yen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story/2016) as the Commander, Jet Li (Hero/2002) as the Emperor and the legendary Gong Li (Memoirs of a Geisha/2005) as the evil witch.

Filmed with breathtaking results in China and New Zealand, the costume and set design of the period are nothing less than spellbinding, a beautifully woven tapestry of deeply rich colour palates that are a feast for the eye, all-in-all culminating in a simplistic yet exciting mythological tale driven by a big heart, a well crafted effort that balances history, humour, romance, drama and action effectively, and with now two versions to chose from, a classic story that will no doubt enthrall young and old for generations to come.

Stars: **½ Review: A ragtag quartet of teenage miscreants are given one last chance to turn their lives around by completing the Duke of Edinburgh Award trek across the Scottish highlands, but once they are dropped in the middle of nowhere, they soon realize they aren't as alone as they think, as they are being stalked by wealthy aristocrats who intend to hunt and kill them for sport.

Wildly wacky low budget hip-hop inspired absurdist comedy-horror is a mixed bag of craziness evocative of the classic thriller "The Most Dangerous Game" (1932) on acid, a slapstick "Trainspotting" meets "Deliverance" meets "The League of Gentlemen" wannabe, but therein lies its charm, an off-the-wall, naively driven and passionate stoner journey that has more to offer than not.

The ragtag misfits include Viraj Juneja as DJ Beatroot, along with Lewis Gribben, Samuel Bottomley and Rian Gordon, who all deliver performances with delightful results, along with Kate Dickie as Police Sgt Morag and veteran Scottish actor James Cosmo (Braveheart/ Trainspotting) as the farmer, and a welcome addition to the cast by veteran comic and actor Eddie Izzard as the eccentric and mysterious huntsman "The Duke" and Georgie Glen as "The Duchess."

Filmed with breathtaking beauty in the beautiful highlands of Scotland, which is not difficult to achieve, the material may be paper thin, scattered and repetitive, but there are moments of side-splitting gags and even poignancy, and-all-in-all, this is a smart(ish), dumb, endearing, stupid, psychedelic, repulsive and clichéd adventure that, for better or worse, is a twisted romp across the Scottish highlands, so go at your own risk.

Rourke’s Reviews Mulan ■ (PG). 115 minutes. Now streaming on Disney+.

After the execrable CGI remake of The Lion King in 2019, I had little expectations for Disney's live-action redux of their 1998 animated film Mulan, so it was nice to be pleasantly surprised by the resultant film which, while flawed, proves to be quite entertaining.

The plot is basically the same Mulan (Yifei Liu), the eldest daughter of war veteran Zhou (Tzi Ma), secretly disguises herself as a man to take the place of her father, who along with thousands of other men, have been called up by the Emperor (Jet Li) to help fight against invading Rouran warriors, led by Bori Khan (Jason Scott Lee).

Khan is aided by a witch, Xianniang (Gong Li), who also has her own agenda.

Mulan 2020 is a strikingly crafted endeavour, with superb cinematography, costume and production design, and the $250 million production is confidently handled

by Niki Caro (Whale Rider), who gives the story a colourful, fablelike glow.

The script (credited to four writers) is on the clunky side, turning Mulan's inner strength into something more akin to Jedi powers, while of course historical accuracy is left far behind.

What hurts this latest iteration the most is a missing sense of humour, replaced by an earnestness that sometimes needlessly weighs the film down.

The animated film (one of my favourite Disney titles) managed to combine drama and comedy to superb effect.

Liu is likeable as Mulan (and was actually up for the same part in the 2009 Chinese film, which eventually went to Zhao Wei); Gong Li makes the most of her limited screen time; Lee is okay as the villain, while Yen is sadly wasted in a thankless supporting role.

Kim Ji-young, Born 1982 ■ (M). 119 minutes. Now available on R3 DVD. Based on the best-selling book

by Cho Nam-joo, this highly anticipated big screen adaptation proves to be a mixed blessing, bringing important subject matter to light, while also not quite delivering the genuinely emotional gut-punch its source material did.

Jung Yu-mi plays the title character, a 30-something housewife and mother who has given up a successful career to devote all her time to husband Dea-hyeon (Gong Yoo) and daughter Ah-young, who is

now two years old. Exhausted and under-appreciated, Kim's frustration turns into something more worrying when she briefly takes on the persona of her mother at Deahyeon's family's house during a Lunar New Year visit.

Consulting a psychiatrist, Deahyeon wants to understand his wife's increasing mood swings, but Kim's behaviour comes from a societal patriarchal structure that has crushed many a woman's dream and self-worth. The book is an excellent, matter-of-fact account of generational, systemic gender inequality, told in a deceptively simple style that actually creates multiple layers, showing a problem that is still firmly entrenched in society (it's fascinating to note that Korean actresses and singers who liked and supported the book were continuously attacked online).

Cho's vivid, affecting details, chronicling decades of genderbased injustice, is understandably condensed for its movie incarnation, but for me, too much was excised (some flashbacks appear without context), and the book's critical tone is softened by shifting some of the focus onto Dea-hyeon and his attempts to 'fix' Kim's problem, and along with the entire third act being completely altered, ultimately mutes the film's impact and the book's point (the final pages were a particular kick in the teeth).

Actor Kim Do-young (All About My Wife) makes her directorial (and screenwriting) debut, and while admirably staying away from melodrama, struggles to fluidly thread the long-term pieces together (there are a couple of nice stylistic touches though), jettisoning not only crucial moments in Kim's life, but also those of her mother and sister.

Kim Do-young does make sure however that she gets strong performances from her cast.

Jung, so good in films such as My Dear Desperado, Psychokinesis, The Table, and of course the blockbuster Train To Busan, is outstanding here, making us care for Kim and her state-of-mind.

While it may not be up there with Jeon Do-yeon's phenomenal turn in the moving Birthday, this is still a memorable performance.

Yoo (The Age Of Shadows) offers solid support, while praise must also go to Kim Mi-kyung and Park Sung-yeon, as Kim Ji-young's mother and Team Leader respectively. There are strong moments in Kim Ji-young, Born 1982, as well as a terrific central performance, and while the subject contained within needs to be fully revealed and examined, an important, insightful and heartfelt book has become an interesting film that doesn't reach the same provocative, powerful heights.

Sparkling trip from central Victoria ■ At winemaking college one of my lecturers taught me that sparkling shiraz, along with Rutherglen muscat and aged Hunter Valley semillon, constituted a unique Australian wine style.

It signified the beginning of a love affair with red fizz, one that culminated, I guess, when I took a glass of sparkling shiraz into a cemetary at central Victoria's Great Western to salute the graves of the founders of the style.

Seppelts, at its Great Western winery, may well have invented sparkling shiraz - or 'sparkling burgundy' to use its original title - but these days another central Victorian winemaker, Andrew Koerner, of Blue Pyrenees Estate, has definitely joined the fray and seems to have produced the goods.

And please don't look askance at the NV tag on the wines. I know that we look for what is the vintage of our table wines but the extensive use of aged reserve wine is normal in the production of fizz in Champagne and most houses value their NV offering as highly as their rare vintage wines.

And so they should, both there and here.

WINE REVIEWS Blue Pyrenees Estate NV Luna ($22): A blend of estate-grown chardonnay and reserve wine form the basis of this NV house blend, enhanced by addition of a small amount of brandy to build complexity and texture.

It all works a treat and the result packaging but who am I to argue the keys here.

A gorgeous glass of red fizz that is a top style of house bubbly to cel- with apparently successful labelling ebrate with and drink as an aperitif. and a fine wine. Latest on Caulfield Guineas ■ Flemington trainer Danny O'Brien is looking to add another big trophy to his mantel piece with his good three-year old, Flying Award, in the Caulfield Guineas to be run on October 10.

The three year-old is by his Cox Plate winner, Shamus Award, out of the New Zealand bred mare, Flying Dansino.

The colt has impressed good judges with his tenacity in his runs, having now raced fives times for a win and two seconds, all in top company.

After his success in last year's Melbourne Cup with Vow and Declare, and Russian Camelot in the South Australian Derby, he is on the top of the world.

In the McNeil Stakes at Caulfield he came off the pace to flash home for a good second behind, Immortal Love, with the Blue Diamond Stakes winner, Tagaloa, in third spot.

At present he is around the $ 7 mark, and represents good value at that price.

On the next line is the smart Sydney youngster, Mamaragan, who ran third in the Golden Slipper.

Top Sydney jockey, Nash Rawiller, is a big rap for the three-year old, and claims he is one of the best going around.

His third in the Slipper was a big run behind Farnan, trained by Gai Waterhouse and Andrew Bott.

At his most recent run, he finished third behind the flying youngster, Anders, in the San Domenico, after the winner ran them ragged over the 1100 metres, in a tick outside the race record, run some 13 years ago.

It was no disgrace in finishing third to one of the fastest horses in Australia.

Although there were only six runners in the San Domenico, his run was good.

Another promising type, Peltzer, from the Gerald Ryan camp, was a good second, although beaten easily, while Doubtland from the Hawkes stables unbeaten in two starts was never in it, but is still a smart young galloper.

Yet another type from the powerful Ciaron Maher-David Eustace camp, highly ndelighted with the way Anders is going is happy with another of their charges in, Holyfield who hit form with a vengeance in the Ming Dynasty at Rosehill leading all the way over 1400 metres.

If he can produce a run like that again, he will take some catching, but it's hard to run a strong 1600 metres at Caulfield, when leading in a class field.

An eye catching run was that of the third placegetter in the same race was, Overlord, a good galloper on his day.

He showed by finishing hard he is on the verge of better runs leading up to the Guineas on October 10.

Another smart quick three year-old, is the Mick Price-Michael Kent Junior trained Immortal Love, by leading sire Snitzel, out of the good mare, Loveyoumadly, a winner of his only three starts.

He won his first start at Echuca, then went on to win by 3.5 lengths at Flemington, on a heavy eight track at headquarters, then buttered up to beat a class field over 1200 metres.

We mentioned earlier from the Hawkes camp, Doubtland, was impressive in winning

He too is by the leading sire, Snitzel, and has ability, but they be a bit strong here.

The Chris Waller trained Overlord, a good galloper, ran a promising third first up, behind Holyfield in the Ming Dynasty, and was finishing off well.

Whips crackaway ■ News that Racing Victoria is making a move on the use of whips could be met with stern opposition.

Racing Victoria has made a move on the whip situation, seeking national action on whip reform in Australian thoroughbred racing prior

to the end of 2020. RV is of the view that a new framework is required to transition the industry to an ultimate prohibition on use of the whip for purposes other than to protect the safety of horses and jockeys.

They will be seeking a vote at the November 2020 Racing Australian Board meeting, that the transition commences with a significant reduction in the permitted use of the whip in a race.

Racing Victoria will propose that, as from January1, 2021, riders are only permitted to use the whip on a maximum number of occasions throughout the entire race, and never in a horse's consecutive strides.

Racing Victoria is proposing that the maximum number be between five and eight occasions per race.

The current rules Australian Rules of Racing permit the use of the whip a maximum of five times in non-consecutive strides prior to the 100 metre mark, and at the rider's discretion in the final 100 metres of a race where its use in consecutive strides is permitted.

RV believes that the current national whip rules are no longer appropriate and not in the best interests of Victorian and Australian racing, both now and in the long term.

In calling for whip reform, RV articulated that jockeys should be permitted to continue to carry whips at all times, but that the industry should be working towards a framework when their use is only permitted in circumstances necessary to protect the safety of riders and horses.

To this point, national consensus has not been reached on any reform to the use of the whip, leaving Australia lagging behind many other leading International racing jurisdictions, who have significantly reduced their permitted use of the whip in recent years.

It will be interesting to see how the Australian Jockeys Association will feel about the forthcoming situation.

Herbie’s Maryborough double ■ Maryborough commenced the week on Monday September 7 and Lexton reinsman James Herbertson without doubt produced the "drive of the day" when successful aboard the Craig Demmler (Parwan) trained Courage Under Fire-Allfouru filly Burnfouru in the Goodnight The Fox Shiraz 3Y0 Fillies over 1609 metres restricted to the fairer sex.

Settling three back in the running line from gate three as Keilah (gate four) led. Moving to be one/one in the final circuit when La La Bron ahead of her dropped out sharply, Burnfouru in a winning move switched down to trail the leader approaching the home turn using the sprint lane and bloused Keilah by a half head, with the favourite Dasha The Great which raced exposed, weakening slightly over the concluding stages to finish third 2.3 metres away. The mile rate 1-56.7.

■ Herbie chalked up a double after partnering the AJ & Beau Tindale trained consistent 5Y0 Elsu-Indie Jazz gelding Mended to land the 2190 metre TAB Long May We Play Pace.

Beginning fast from gate five Mended was unable to head off Good Guy Mack (gate three) leaving him exposed. Gaining cover mid-race when Fowsands vacated the one/two spot to park outside the pacemaker, Mended enjoyed a little breather. Off and running three wide in the final circuit, Mended in a punishing finish scored by a head from Good Guy Mack returning a mile rate of 2-00.3. Aviero (one/two) was third 2 mtres away.

■ Naneenna part-owner/trainer Col Godden has been having a terrific run of late with his small team and 4Y0 Jet Laag-Heavenly Pocket entire Black Jack Orion (gate six) was a strong victor of the 2190 metre Maryborough School House Village Maiden Pace in a mile rate of 200.4. Driven by Josh Duggan, Jet Black Orion commenced a forward move three wide from five back in the running line at the bell, being accommodated in the last lap by The Knight Star three back which eased three wide to go in sight of the leader Be A Good Scout. Again moving three wide into the final bend, Black Jet Orion defied a late challenge from Imawingate (one/one) to score by 1.6 metres. Awesome Reactor was third from mid-field 4.6 metres back after shifting down to the sprint lane on turning. Josh and partner Monique (Burnett) are looking forward to the birth of their first child in December.

■ Charlton's Greg Norman snared the Jester Event Services Pace over 1690 metres with Fiftyshadesofhay which produced an eye catching second at Maryborough a week earlier.

With Kerryn Manning in the sulky, Fiftyshadesofhay, a 4Y0 Badlands HanoverSupreme Classie mare starting from the extreme draw settled at the tail of the field before being set alight racing for the bell to lead for the final circuit.

Going powerfully approaching the home turn, Fiftyshadesofhay defied all challengers to register a 7.4 mere margin in 1-56.4 over Inaugurate (one three - one/one home turn), with Smile Lyle coming from last to finish third 1.1 metres away.

■ Bendigo duo Maddy Ray and Haydon Gray's 4Y0 Majestic Son-Galleons Bliss gelding Rigondeaux first up since May was a brilliant winner of the Haras Des Trotteurs Trotters Mobile over 2190 metres.

Driven by Tatura's Abbey Turnbull taking a concession, Rigondeaux spent most of the race at the rear after starting from the extreme draw as David Murphy's Fox Force Five led.

Giving away a big start approaching the home turn, Rigondeaux must have been five and six wide on the final bend before motoring home at 100 miles an hour to score by a half head in a thrilling finish from Beefour Bacardi (one/one three wide last lap) in a rate of 2-02.3. Rank outsider Lord Lohki (one/three) was an eye catching third a head away.

■ The Big Yin (Chris Alford) led throughout from the pole to run out a 4.1 metre victor in a mile rate of 1-58 over Midnight Calm which trailed, with a death-seating Radiant Rose holding down third 10.9 metres away.

First for 15 months ■ Stress Factor raced by long time stable clients John Wilkinson, Gary Dowling and Rob Owen, along with Elizabeth Crews and Bruce and Denise Morrison coming from 20 metres was given a perfect passage by Chris Alford following the hot favourite Full Noise (20m) for the entire race.

Settling four back along the markers trailing Full Noise, then one/one after Full Noise moved to race exposed for the final circuit, Stress Factor was poised to pounce on straightening and that he did, scoring by a metre in a rate of 203.9. Iron mare Fear Not was third 5.3 metres away in third place after gaining inside runs after trailing the two favourites. It was Stress Factor's first victory since May 2019.

■ Very honest filly Mustang Kelly was given a sweet trip from the pole trailing the odds-on favourite Kyvalley Heist, before using the sprint lane to blouse him by 1.9 metres in 2-03.7. Here Comes Kyvalley (three back the markers) was third a half head back third after extricating into the clear in the straight.

■ Rockford Peach, a 4Y0 Great Success-Our First Strike mare bred by Lisa and partners but now raced by her alone, broke her maiden status at start number twelve by leading throughout from gate three, proving too strong for Double Dot (one/one) by a half neck which joined her on the home turn with the pair drawing right away. The Night King was third 7.7 metres way after trailing the winner. The mile rate 2-06.2.

■ Myrniong duo Jess Tubbs and Greg Sugars caused an upset in the 2180 metre Jet Roofing Pace when 3Y0 Somebeachsomewhere-So Random filly Vouchers finished all over her older rivals to gain the day in a mile rate of 1-58.5.

Given a cosy passage four back along the markers from gate five, Vouchers after extricating prior to the home turn joined in three wide on the final bend and finished best to prevail by 1.2 metres from Soextra which raced in the open from the bell, with Celestal Gossip 3.5 metres third 3.5 metres away after leading.

Double Day ■ Wednesday was once again double day with Ballarat racing in the afternoon and Echuca at night.

Veteran Ballarat trainer Keith Douglas' ever reliable Malabar Maple-Hangin With Sally mare Hanging On A Dream was a deserved winner of the 2200 metre Ballarat Pressings Trotters Handicap.

Driven a gem of a race by Ross Payne, Hanging On A Dream after stepping safely from 10 metres possied one/one for most of the race.

Easing three wide on turning, Hanging On A Dream finished full of running to defeat the rank outsider Uncle Al which trailed the pacemaker Zephiane after leading out from barrier three by an easy 17.8 metres in 2-03.1. Birthday Suit first up since August last year was third a nose away off a mid-field trip.

■ Beeac trainer Courtney Slater is having a lucky run at present and SomebeachsomewhereBella Joy colt Goodtime Floyd brought up two wins in succession when victorious in the Durham Park 3Y0 Pace over 1710 metres. With Michael Stanley in the sulky, Goodtime Floyd was taken back to the rear from outside the front line, with David Murphy's Iron Chariot leading from gate two.

Going forward three wide in the last lap to lead narrowly on the final bend, Goodtime Floyd after looking beaten in the straight, rallied magnificently to gain the day by a head from Crompton Bay (one/two last lap) and Gilty By The Beach (one/one - three wide home turn) who was 1.2 metres back in third place after narrowly hitting the front in the closing stages.

The mile rate 1-56.7.

■ Lara part-owner/trainer James Warnock landed the 1710 metre Ferndale Confectionary Pace with consistent 4Y0 Western Terror-Kano Star gelding Caledonian Terra in a rate of 158.8. Driven by Greg Sugars, Caledonian Terra (Charlie as he is known at home) enjoyed a perfect trip from gate four one/one and when eased three wide on the final bend, finished best to score by 4.9 metres from Shady Dancer off a three wide trail from last on the home turn, with Asharah third 5.7 metres away after trailing the weakening leader Springa.

■ Prominent breeder/owner Rick Burchell who's stock race with the "Calder" moniker, snared the Petstock 3Y0 Maiden Trotters Mobile over 2200 metres with Muscle Hill-Like A Calder gelding Saint Calder paying Tote odds of $28.80 when having his first start since last December. Trained locally by Damien Burns, Saint Calder driven by Ryan Duffy starting from gate five on the second line to settle mid-field, was set alight shortly after with a lightning move to take over with two laps to travel. Travelling beautifully, Saint Calder defied all challengers to record a strong 4.1 metre margin in advance of Savvy Kyvalley (one/one at bell) and Night Whispers which made up many lengths on turning from a mile back to be 2.3 metres away. The mile rate 2-05.3.

■ At Echuca, Kilmore trainer Rita Burnett snared the Rochester Tyre & Battery Service Pace over 1755 metres with Gigis Grinner, a 4Y0 Grinfromeartoear-Mademoiselle Gigi gelding.

Driven by future son-in-law Josh Duggan, Gigis Grinner (gate three) crossed to lead hitting the back straight on the first occasion and was never headed, scoring by 2.4 metres from Cracked Pepper which raced outside him returning a mile rate of 2-00.6. Daybreak Drama (three back the markers) ran home late for third a half head away.

■ Astute Shepparton trainer Russell Jack combined with Daryl Douglas aboard Somebeachsomewhere-Summa Of Dreams colt Spring In His Step to capture the 1755 metre Taylor Made Cows 2Y0 Maiden Pace.

Despite racing exposed from gate five, Spring In His Step was much too strong at the finish for the leader Upright (gate three), reaching the wire by 3.5 metres in a mile rate of 1-57.3. Euroking was third 10.5 metres back off a mid-field trip.

■ Tatura reinswoman Abbey Turnbull celebrated her birthday in style after winning the Mal Keeble - Rich River Autobody Pace over 1755 metres with 5Y0 Four Starzzz Shark-Seductress gelding Giant Jackson. Trained by father Craig, Giant Jackson despite racing fierce, held on the score by a neck from Jemsoms Pet along the sprint lane after trailing, with Orbie (one/two) running on late for third 1.3 metres back. The mile rate 1-58.3.

■ Cousin Amanda Turnbull is having a great run since shifting from Bathurst with a large team of horses and was successful with 4Y0 Shoobees Place-Lavish Art entire Shoobee Doo in the Moama Bowling Club Pace over 2160 metres to give Daryl Douglas a driving double.

Bellmac Bambi was third 1.6 metres away after following the pair. gazelle in the last lap to lead on turning and win in a breeze by 2.1 metres in advance of old timer Nuggetpan which trailed the winner in a rate of 1-57.6.
