■ Seymour district people have joined with other North-East Victorians in calling for The Lord’s Prayer to be retained by State Parliament, says Gaelle Broad, Northern Victorian MLC. Ms Broad (Nationals) said that a petition was presented by Evan Mulholland (Liberal) to retain the Lord’s Prayer in the Legislative Council proceedings that received nearly 11,000 signatures. “I have received correspondence from residents across Northern Victoria, including Marysville, Seymour , Wangaratta, Eaglehawk, Bendigo, Wodonga, Kyabram, Kangaroo Flat, Golden Square and Euroa,” Ms Broad said. “This is a beautiful prayer and much more than a few words from an old book. Its place in Parliament helps parliamentarians to respect religion and people of faith in general – who make up over half the population,” Ms Broad said.
CARJACKING AT SOMERTON
■ Detectives are investigating an aggravating carjacking and hit-run collision in Melbourne’s north on Friday night (Auig. 16). It is believed a man was delivering food along Fleet St in Somerton, when the driver of a white Toyota Prado crashed into the back of his Toyota Yaris about 8pm. The driver of the Prado and his passenger got out of the car, threatened the man with a knife and attacked him before stealing his belongings as well as his vehicle. The 52-year-old Craigieburn victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene. About 20 minutes later, officers were called

to a three-vehicle collision involving the same Toyota Prado on Camp Rd in Broadmeadows. The driver of the Toyota fled the scene on foot and. The occupants of the two other vehicles were not injured. Investigators have since established the Prado was stolen. The investigation remains ongoing.
