Flood alert in eastern suburbs

■ The likelihood of floods in Melbourne’s east November and December has been the subject of an alert. The Bureau of Meteorology has declared a La Niña is underway, bringing with it a wet spring and summer and the potential for flash and riverine flooding. A number of suburbs have historically

been prone to flooding. The last La Niña event saw Camberwell Junction completely flooded and the Solway Pedestrian Bridge washed away during a flooding event in February 2011. Kew, Hawthorn, Camberwell, Glen Iris and Ashburton were also affected by this significant storm. The State Emergency Service has issued Local Flood Guides.

ALL HANDYMAN WORK

■ BOROONDARA Council documents indicate that ratepayers are hiring its Chief Executive Phillip Storer for more than $1200 per day.

The 2019-20 Annual Financial Report lists the Chief Executive’s annual salary at between $450,000-$459,999. Boroondara listed 15 other executives receiving annual packages of up to $340,000. The top Boroondara Council earners include Bruce Dobson, Daniel Freer, Carolyn McClean, Shiran Wickramasinghe and Carolyn Terry. Some 50 other officers have been paid between $150,000-$280,000 annually. Earlier this year, Boroondara Councillors voted that Mr Storer be reappointed as its Chief Executive Officer for a four-year period from August 5. The resolution saw Mr Storer re-appointed without the position being advertised.
