MAYORS CHALLENGED
■ A NUMBER of Mayors and sitting Councillors are being challenged for their seats in local government seats across Melbourne’s east.
As at Monday night (Sept. 21) when this edition of The Local Paper went to press, only Cr Nicole Seymour of Knox was the only Mayor unopposed. Nominations were still being taken until 12 Noon yesterday (Tues.) by the Victorian Electoral Commission. InMonash Council’s Oakleigh Ward, Mayor Cr Stuart James is being opposed by Theo Zographos, Tamika Hicks, Jennifer Jaeger, Naureen Choudhry, Alex Van Der End, Pierce Soulsby, Josh Fergeous, Rachel Liu, Michael Gardner, Danny Collins, Rachel Lee and Esha Lakshana. In Whitehorse Council’s Kingsley Ward, Mayor Cr Sharon Ellis is being challenged by Harry Ma and Amanda McNeill. At Maroondah Council, Mayor Cr Mike Symon is facing opposition in Jubilee Ward from Emily Brightside. Veteran local government identity Les Willmott is aiming to make a return. In Boroondara Council’s elections, Mayor Cr Cynthia Watson must face a contest for the Maranoa Ward seat from Dennis Whelan, Helen Tsoutsouvas, Mark Newlan and Chris Pattas.
