Eastern suburbs Councils keep watch on outbreaks in Casey
■ EASTERN suburbs Councils and health authorities continue their nervous watch on the growing number of Coronavirus cases in the nearby Casey municipality. As of Monday (July 6), Casey had recorded 16 active cases.
Knox Mayor Cr Nicole Seymour, in her daily update to citizens, said that Mondcay’s announcement of 127 new cases, an increase of 124 after 3 were reclassified, may have come as a shock. “ It is a large number relative to what we have experienced to date, however remember the sheer scale of testing happening. Some 952,699 tests have been conducted statewide, as of Monday. “The major difference between numbers of this size today versus early on in the pandemic, is that the Department of Health and Human Services through testing and tracing is forming a clear picture of how the virus is trending,” Cr Seymour said. “From the data the Chief Health Officer and his team have a "heat map" where they have identified outbreaks and clusters and are doing everything possible to contain community transmission. “Knox's numbers have increased by two new active cases, taking our total to three active cases. “These two new cases are linked to the Patterson Lakes/Lysterfield family outbreak, taking that outbreak total to 15. “It is not known if these two new cases reside in the same house as the previous Lysterfield cases (now recovered) or were close contacts who live in Knox, not necessarily Lysterfield. “As these people were close contacts of the previous Lysterfield cases it is also highly likely that they would have already been self isolating
