■ Josie Millard, the new Principal of Kew High School, has been mentioned in State Parliament by local MLA, Tim Smith. He described Ms Millard as “a very old friend who I have known through rowing for many years and who is going to do an outstanding job at that awesome school. “I am delighted to see that my election commitment of a new STEM centre at Kew High School will be delivered. It is an election promise that I am very proud of, and it will be delivered. Ms Smith paid tribute to the former principal of Kew High School, Clare Entwistle, who retired after the end of term 1 this year after 30 years of service to that school. “She did an outstanding job. She was a great friend and a great adviser to me on issues of education,” Mr Smith said.

Mr Dare has been Vice-Chairman of the Norman A. Smith Memorial Scholarship Committee of the Waverley Sub-Branch, Returned and Services League of Australia since 2006. He has served as Committee Member since 2005, and Sub-Branch Delegate, Returned and Services League of Australia's State Conference. Mr Dare has been Appeals Officer, and Editor The Dispatch newsletter. He has also held the position as Sub-Branch Historian. Mr Dare was inaugural President of the Monash Sub-Branch, National Servicemen's Association Australia. He is a Life Member. He has been a member for five years of the South-Eastern Sub-Branch, National Servicemen's Association Australia. He was inaugural Editor in 2011 of the National Boer War Memorial Association (Victoria), serving as a Committee Member, 2010-2017. Mr Dare has been a Committee member of the Boer War Association of Victoria.. He is a keen military historian and his research includes Victorian enlistments in the Boer War and World War I, and identification of WWI enlistees from the former Shires of Mulgrave and Oakleigh (now the City of Monash). Mr Dare is keen on the preservation of historical records and photographs associated with Australians in World War I. He is a member of Lodge Liberation of Freemasons Victoria, and holds the grand rank of Past Junior Grand Warden.

Push for facility at The Basin CFA
■ Bayswater MLA Jackson Taylor has been pushing in State Parliament for the construction of a new facility at The Basin CFA. “We all know just how vital ourCFA brigades are, and the whole foothills community and wider community are acutely aware of ● Jackson Taylor the need for a new, larger facility for The Basin brigade,” MrTaylor told State Parliament last week. “They are truly a mainstay of the hills and a hub for The Basin. I was proud to have been able to secure funding last year after a strong groundswell of support right across the community and was stoked to have been able to welcome members of the brigade here into Parliament to hear the great news from the minister herself. The Basin CFA will be getting a brand-new, state-of-the-art fire station. “It is such an important project that will have long-term and lasting benefits to my and the wider community and will provide our volunteer members with the kind of 21st century facilities they need to get on with their job of keeping us safe,” Mr Taylor said.
