■ THE Andrews Government Health Minister Jennifer Mikakos (Northern Metropolitan MC) quit at the weekend, and her replacement will be decided by the Federal Labor Party National Executive.

Under State laws, Ms Mikakos’s replacement will not be decided by voters, but given to her own political party headquarters to decide.

The National Executive seized control of the Victorian headquarters in June after the branch stacking scandal associated with disgraced minister Adam Somyurek, as revealed on the 60 Minutes TV program.

Ms Mikakos’s resignation as a Minister and MLC came last Saturday (Sep. 26), after Premier Daniel Andrews threw her under the ‘political bus’.

It came as MichaelSmithNews.com revealed that COVID-19 hotel quarantine contracts were signed by a representative of Martin Pakula.

State Politics Recovery steps for bushfire victims

● Lisa Neville ■ Families who lost their homes in the 2019-20 Victorian bushfires are taking the next steps in their rebuilding and recovery journey, says the State Government.

This comes with the support of payments from the Victorian Bushfire Appeal and grants, modular housing, expert planning advice and extra assistance.

People who lost their primary place of residence are receiving an additional $15,000 Housing Assistance Payment from the Victorian Bushfire Appeal on top of the $25,000 Housing Assistance Payment disbursed from April.

This is on top of other Victorian and Commonwealth grants, such as up to $42,000 in Emergency Re-Establishment Payments for underinsured households and up to $75,000 in grants for directly-impacted farm businesses. ““We’re providing as many choices and supports as possible, supporting bushfire-affected residents through the rebuilding process with grants, faster processes and tailored advice – but we all have a responsibility to ensure that homes in bushfire-prone areas are going to be safe to live in," said Lisa Neville, Minister for Police and Emergency Services “Families who wish to take a bit more time planning their rebuild can move into high-quality short-term modular housing back on their land, and those who want to start as soon as possible can make the most of our Rebuild Support Service and streamlined rules that make the process faster and easier," Ms Neville said.

Ten high-quality, short-term modular housing units have been constructed by Victorian manufacturers Ausco and Modular Spaces, and delivered to sites across Towong and East Gippsland. Five units are now formally occupied, 17 more units are under construction, and more orders are expected.

The homes – which can be occupied for up to three years while families and individuals undertake their permanent rebuild – are being installed on fire-impacted properties that have now been cleared of destroyed buildings and bushfire waste under the 2020 Clean-Up Program, which was completed on schedule in August.

At an average cost per unit of approximately $150,000 for construction and installation, eligible residents pay only a hiring fee benchmarked to public housing rates, with hardship provisions so fees are never higher than 25 per cent of their household income.

The government is also providing more options to families and individuals who are rebuilding on a small number of properties identified as ‘complex sites’ as part of the free bushfire hazard assessments funded by the Victorian Government and undertaken by bushfire hazard professionals and the Country FireAssociation.

As well as being eligible for a range of support and step-by-step advice for planning applications from the Rebuild Support Service, owners of complex sites can also get the expertise of the Complex Site Taskforce to help them identify rebuilding options and solutions at the ‘drawing board’ stage. Shortterm modular homes are also available to owners of these sites.

In line with previous bushfires, owners of complex sites also have the option of selling their property to the Victorian Government at the 2019 site value approved by the Government Land Monitor.

● Jye Plitt Preston man Jye Plitt is missing and Police are appealing for public as sistance to find him. The 20-yearold was last seen leaving his Murray Rd home on Tuesday last week (Sept. 22). He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black tracksuit pants and black and white runners.

Jye is about 175cm tall, has a thin build and short brown hair. Investigators have concerns for his welfare as he suffers from a medical condition and his disappearance is out of character. Anyone who has seen Jye or has information on his whereabouts should call Preston Police Station on 9479 6111.

● Cr Susan Rennie Darebin Mayor Cr Susan Rennie disallowed questions from citizen John Gorman at this month’s Council meeting. “ The questions in part, are in my opinion directed at an individual Councillor (albeit seeking a response from the Mayor) and are aimed at embarrassing that Councillor.

Additionally, the matters raised are outside the duties, function and powers of Council. On this basis I am disallowing them, and they will not be read out,” Cr Rennie said.

Many aspects of local government grind to a halt during Council elections. The final Banyule Council meeting in its current make-up was held last week (Mon., Sept. 21). The next meeting will be the Mayoral election on November 18, with a business meeting to follow on November 23.

■ In last week’s Local Paper, a report was published that said: “Darebin’s Cr Tim Laurence told this month’s Council meeting that whilst he owned property in the vicinity of the CheddarArea Local Area Place Making Project the matter was not specific to his interests and thus he would not be declaring a conflict of interest in the item.”

The newspaper report was based on the published draft minutes of Darebin City Council. Cr Laurence claims the minutes are often incorrect.

Cr Laurence phoned the newspaper office and said that he does not own any property in the area.

■ The City of Whittlesea will celebrate and raise awareness for unpaid carers as part of National Carers Week 2020 from October 11-17.

Around 33,000 carers of all ages and backgrounds are registered in the City of Whittlesea, living and caring for loved ones around the clock.

“What carers do, day in and day out, the unconditional support, hard work, care and love will never go unnoticed in the City of Whittlesea,” said a Council statement.

Ilona is Kinglake’s Cr ■ Ilona Gerencser will become Kinglake’s Councillor for Murrindindi Shire for the next four years.

Ms Gerencser was the only person to nominate for the Kinglake seat, after Mayor Cr Leigh Dunscombe announced that he would not restand for election after one term.

Similarly, Cr Sandice McAulay will be returned to the Cathedral Ward seat, after being the only person to nominate.

Five Councillors - Crs JackieAshe, Charlie Bisset, Bec Bowles, Leigh Dunscombe, Margaret Rae - did not seek re-election.

Cr Eric Lording is contesting the King Parrot Ward seat; he has Mayoral ambitions.He will first need to defeat opponent Kim Travers.

In the Koriella seat, the ballot paper lists Adam Neeves, John Walsh and John Steer.

In the Red Gate Ward, it will be a three-way contest between Damien Gallagher, Robyn Walsh and Ian McKaskill.

■ Future Nillumbik Shire Councillors will be expected to undertake Australian Institute of Company Directors governance training.

The Shire has voted on a policy to pay the bill of $7929.90 per Councillor, however any participant failing to complete the three-unit course will be obliged to re-pay the total sum back to Council.

The assessment requires that the participants must be assessed with a multiple-choice exam, do a 105-minute written exam, and submit a 3000-word assignment.

■ Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal member Catherine Paterson has told Bundoora property developer Clause 1 Planning that a Whittlesea City Council planning permit should not be extended to allow further time for a four-dwelling construction at 11 Arthur St, Bundoora.

Whittlesea Council granted the permit in April 2018, with the condition that construction had to begin within two years. Whittlesea Council decided to refuse an extension.

Explosive news

■ A man has faced court after police discovered seven allegedly home-made explosive devices at a Waurn Ponds address on Sunday.

Waurn Ponds man Aaron Church, 31, appeared before Geelong Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning charged with manufacturing explosives, using explosives and conduct endangering life.

Emergency services were initially called after an unknown device was allegedly set alight near a letterbox outside a Monterey Drive address about 2.45am on Sunday.

The item was engulfed in flames but was quickly extinguished by firefighters, a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

“No one was injured during the incident.”

Warrant issued

■ Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate Maayga Folasa.

A warrant has been issued for the 37-yearold’s arrest for contravening a court order and breaching bail conditions.

Folasa is described as 210cm tall, with a solid build, and short dark hair.

He is known to frequent the Southbank and Point Cook areas.

Start to cricket

■ The Dandenong District Cricket Association is set to kick off on Saturday December 5, with the DDCA confirming the dates to clubs as it looks to get a season underway.

It was initially touted that the DDCA would aim for the start date of Saturday December 5 last week, and while it has informed clubs of its plans, have left the door ajar for a November 21 start at the earliest if Melbourne’s COVID case numbers remain low and trigger potential lifting of restrictions coming forward.

Cricket Victoria only recently released its suggestions for the 2020-21 season to clubs and associations, advising to consider a startdate of November 14 for Metro Melbourne if restrictions are further eased on the October 26 deadline, allowing enough time to familiarise itself with COVID protocols, a shortened pre-season, a potential practice match and preparation of facilities.

Festival online ■ This year’s Seven Sisters October women’s only “empowerment festival” is going online due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

Originally held at Mount Martha in 2012 with 350 attending, the festival this year moved to Shepparton in March, ending one day before the imposition of an Australiawide ban on events.

Mornington Peninsula-based Lauren Woodman, one of the founders of Seven Sisters, said Victorians “are feeling the toll on their mental health”.

Reservoir shooting arrests ■ Police have arrested three people as part of an investigation into a series of firearms incidents in the northern suburbs.

Warrants were executed by detectives from the Echo Taskforce and North West Region Crime Team, with support from the Australian Federal Police National Anti-Gangs Squad, in Richmond, Docklands and Coburg early on Friday morning (Sept. 25).

A 25-year-old Richmond man was charged with drugs and proceeds of crime offences, as well as committing indictable offence whilst on bail. He was to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.

A 29-year-old Coburg man was charged with drug and weapons offences, and bailed to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court in June next year.

A 21-year-old Richmond woman is expected to be charged on summons with failing to provide a PIN code under he Crimes Act. Investigators also seized a large quantity of cash, cannabis, steroids and a baton from the properties.

The arrests follow a number of firearms incidents across the northern suburbs earlier this year, including a matter where shots were fired into a pastry shop in Reservoir on July 12.

Bunnies for bowlers

Nabbed at 173kmh on Ring Road ■ Greensborough Highway Patrol nabbed a driver for excessive speed in Fawkner on Thursday morning.

Police were patrolling near the Sydney Rd exit about 8am when they observed a car travelling at 173kmh in a 70kmh zone.

Members intercepted the driver, an 18year-old man from Craigieburn, who had had his licence for less than three months.

His car was impounded at a cost of $873 and he has been charged with traffic-related offences.

Barriers at Ivanhoe ■ Banyule Council last week resolvedto place permanent barriers on Waterdale Rd, south of Upper Heidelberg Rd, subject to finalisation of concept design for a pocket park.

Crs Peter Castaldo and Craig Langdon proposed the move, which was carried by Councillors.

“Concept designs for a pocket park within the closed section of Waterdale Rd, south of Upper Heidelberg Road, [will] be prepared in consultation with the community and a report be presented on the final design at a future Council meeting.

“If the final pocket park design does not require the closure of the road, then the decision to place permanent barriers will not proceed.

“A road safety audit [will be] undertaken of the intersection of Seddon St and Norman St , Ivanhoe to identify any traffic safety improvements that could be made.”

The Council has been successful in obtaining a grant under the Local Parks Program valued at $1.3 million to create ‘pocket parks’.

Part of the proposal involves the creation of a shared pedestrian and vehicle zone between the two locations along Waterdale Rd, said a report to Councillors.

1880 sign Market petition ■ Veteran community advocate, Marion Harper, Honorary Secretary of the Darebin Progress Association, has told Darebin Council of an 1880signature petition about Preston Market staying at its current location.

“There have been claims made in the Chamber and elsewhere that it is difficult to make a decision about an option to keep Preston Market where it is and that there are many people that have an alternate view to this,” Ms Harper told thsi month’s Darebin Council meeting.

“A petition on change.org has over 1880 signatures and comments of people who want the market to stay where it is.

“Can any Councillor or officer provide evidence of a greater number of people who want to see Preston Market demolished and moved elsewhere on the site?”

A rabbit-skin properly dressed makes as good a fur coat as anyone can wish for.

But the vast majority of rabbit skins are worn by men in the shape of hats, both hard and soft.

The centre of the rabbit-skin in.dustry is Brandon, in Norfolk, where no fewer than five million skins are dealt with yearly. About two millions are English, the rest come from abroad, principally from Australia.

A rabbit has close fur next its skin, which is practically hidden by longer hair. The skins, when they arrive at the factory, are handed over to women to "pull." When this has been done, the skins are washed by machine which is constructed for the purpose of taking the fur off.

Board’s area ■ The proposed extension of the area of the Metropolian Board of Works for reticulation and sewerage purposes is exercising the attention of municipalities likely to be affected by the suggested alteration.

Health Minister Jenny Mikakos quits ■ Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos quit on Saturday, after Premier Daniel Andrews laid responsibility for the COVID-19 quarantine problems with her.

“Since the start of the pandemic, I have worked every day with a single focus - to protect Victorians from an unprecedented global public health threat in our life-time,” Ms Mikakos said on Saturday (Sept. 26).

“It has been a responsibility for which I have felt only a sense of urgency and resolve.

“I have been in awe of our health professionals saving lives every day and I can never express my admiration of them enough, “When the case numbers started to rise in June I sought an explanation. On June 30, I received a briefing on a genomic sequencing report.

To say that I was shocked would be a massive understatement. The sacrifice and suffering of Victorians is something that I feel deeply.

“As I said to the Board of Inquiry, I take responsibility for my department, the buck stops with me.

“With the benefit of hindsight, there are clearly matters that my department should have briefed me on.

“Whether they would have changed the course of events only the Board and history can determine.

“For three months I had looked forward to learning who made the fateful decision to use security guards. Victorians deserve to know who.

“I have always put everything into my Ministerial responsibilities. I have never wanted to leave a job unfinished but in light of the Premier's statement to the Board of Inquiry and the fact that there are elements in it that I strongly disagree with, I believe that I cannot continue to serve in his Cabinet.

“I have never shirked my responsibility for my department, but it is not my responsibility alone.

“I look forward to the Board of Inquiry's final report.

“I am disappointed that my integrity has sought to be undermined. I know that my statement and evidence would have been uncomfortable for some.

“I have today written to the Governor of Victoria to resign my commission as a Minister effective today. I will also be resigning from the Parliament.

“I am deeply sorry for the situation that Victorians find themselves in. In good conscience, I do not believe that my actions led to them.

“I thank Victorians for the privilege of serving them. I thank the Premier, my colleagues, my loyal staff, the Labor Party and broader Labor movement for their support.

■ Jenny Mikakos not only resigned as Victoria’s Health Minister, but is also leaving politics.

She has been Member of the Legislative Council for Northern Metropolitan Province.

The Northern Metropolitan Region spans from Melbourne’s CBD to Mickleham and Kalkallo in the north, South Morang and Greensborough in the east and Bulla and Oaklands Junction in the west.

Some of its diverse features include the MCG, Parliament House, the Docklands, Flemington Racecourse, the Royal Agricultural Society Showgrounds, the Zoological Gardens and Fitzroy Gardens.

It takes in 11 lower house seats: Broadmeadows, Brunswick, Bundoora, Melbourne, Mill Park, Northcote, Pascoe Vale, Preston, Richmond, Thomastown, and Yuroke. ★ Fellow Northern Metropolitan MLC Fiona Patten (Reason Party) said this: “I have known Jenny Mikakos for 20 years and from the very beginning, whilst she didn’t always agree with me - and wasn’t afraid to tell me - she always gave me a fair hearing.

“Jenny was strong on some of the issues close to my political heart. She was there for the Safe Access Zones legislation that helped protect women’s medical privacy and she was there for the Voluntary Assisted Dying laws that now give so many people peace of mind at the end of their life. For that I will always be grateful.

“It has been an extraordinary time for us all, but especially so if you are the Health Minister.

Jenny has carried herself remarkably well during these difficult times.

“She certainly was a real presence in the Upper House chamber and, at least from my own point of view, will be missed.

“I look forward to working closely with whoever the new Health Minister is and welcoming the next Member for Northern Metropolitan to the parliament,” Ms Patten said. ★ Giving evidence to the Board of Inquiry on Friday, Mr Andrews said: ““We are left with a situation where no one owns the decision for the purposes of following up, if it was the right one, and if it wasn’t the right one, making necessary changes.”

The Andrews Government spent $130million on the program, including $60million on security.

Nearly all of the 18,000 cases and 750 deaths in Victoria since the end of May can be traced back to COVID-19 outbreaks transmitted from returned travellers to staff at two quarantine hotels – the Stamford Plaza and the Rydges on Swanston.

“I want to make it very clear to each and every member of the Victorian community that I am sorry for what has occurred here,” MrAndrews said.

MP’S PERSONAL SLUR ON DEPUTY MAYOR

■ YAN YEAN MLA Danielle Green has launched an extraordinary attack in State Parliament against Nillumbik Shire Deputy Mayor Cr Peter Clarke.

Ms Green used Parliamentary Privilege to accuse Cr Clarke of breaching COVID-19 regulations, breaching the Nillumbik Shire Councillor Code of Conduct and bullying.

Cr Clarke says that Ms Green’s accusations are a “fabrication”, and that he will lodge a formal complaint against her with State Parliament’s Privileges Committee.

In Parliament last week, Ms Green said: “Cr Clarke you may think that you’ve gotten away with numerous corruptions of local government laws and regulations during your past four years in office, but the rules actually do apply to you too.

“I sincerely hope the Police throw the book at you and fine you for breaching the lockdown and potentially endangering the health of my constituents,” Ms Green said.

Brimbank Mayor Cr Georgina Papforiou says her Council has signed a joint letter to Premier Daniel Andrews requesting that gaming venues close between midnight and 10am “‘We must protect our communities from the increased likelihood of gambling harm, and support local communities as they recover from COVID-19.

“Closing venues at midnight is a simple, yet effective, measure to reduce gambling harm.

“We urge the Victorian Government to enact this reform for the health and economic benefit of all our communities,” Cr Papafotiou said.

The Rev Tim Costello said that no level of government is closer to the devastation poker machines cause than the local council representing the people who live with pokies venues throughout their municipality.

“It’s unfair that local councils have so little say about a business operating in their community that can do so much damage to their residents.

Neil Angus, Forest Hill MLA, told the Legisllative Assembly this month that a local elderly woman was unable to get to the clothes line in her backyard, because Government restrictions had not allowed her lawn to be mowed.

■ One of the best days I had in West Hollywood was when Aussie rocker Brian Mannix visited our little village. He stayed at the Rock and Roll Hotel, the Ramada Plaza Hotel and Suites on Santa Monica Boulevard.

I showed Brian and his lovely wife Sue around Los Angeles.

We had so much fun.

Brian Mannix is an Australian rock music singer and actor.

He was formerly the lead singer of 1980s band Uncanny X-Men, and in 2006 performed in the Countdown Spectacular He starred on Dancing with the Stars, and also at the 2006 AFL Grand Final.

In my Countdown podcasts, Brian Mannix has revealed so many amazing and funny stories.

New ‘age of disorder’

Bought on Craigslist ■ For $17,000, an imported 1995 Japanese Toyota Hilux fire truck can be yours.

"This particular unit features ladder and hose racking, a slide-out pump tray in the bed, cargo basket, and two spot lights on the driver's side," reads an ad, one of many on Craigslist right now, hawking private fire trucks in California.

The devastating 2020 wildfires, sparked by an unforgiving dry lightning storm in August amid a soaring heat wave, left over one million acres of California torched, and the state's fire services dangerously depleted of firefighters, trucks and other resources.

It should probably come as no surprise that worried residents would start to look into DIY fire protection, but the market for fire trucks on Craigslist right now is unprecedented.

NPR reports that a Sacramento company called Vans From Japan is cashing in on the demand by buying up trucks from Japan and making money selling them in on California, and they're using Craigslist to offload the vehicles.

Meth floods across border ■ US Customs and Border Protection officers are noticing an alarming trend in the illegal drug trade: Methamphetamine is flooding across the border at an alltime high, and officers say the Coronavirus pandemic has affected its prevalence and price tag.

"They're in business to make money, so [the cartels] are still looking for every possible way to get narcotics across," Tucson field office Director of Field Operations Guadalupe Ramirez Jr. said.

While battling the coronavirus pandemic, Border Patrol agents and U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers said they've been working nonstop to intercept illegal drug activity at the U.S.Mexico border.

In Tucson, Ariz., officers said they've seen a recent spike in meth and fentanyl at the southern border.

"We're actually the smallest field office but we're normally number two or three when it comes to narcotics seizures," Ramirez said. "Where other locations have seen meth really go up, we've seen fentanyl go up here, but we're still, out of the four southwest border field offices, we're still number three in meth seizures. So, they're still very high."

Officers say in all, the total volume of meth seized is almost double than last year with still a couple months left to go in the fiscal year. In fact, the volume of meth seized has been increasing annually for several years. In fiscal year 2019, the Office of Field Operations seized some 68,585 points of meth nationwide, compared to 118,153 pounds so far this year.

In Laredo, Texas, meth seizures have been happening almost daily. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted shipments containing methamphetamine with an estimated street value of over $29.8 million in two enforcement actions at the World Trade Bridge back in August.

A few days later, at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge, they seized additional meth totalling over $3.3 million in street value. "Supply and demand, you know, as we hit their supply line, the demand is still there, so the price goes up," Ramirez said.

■ A ground breaking discovery in Australia is giving new meaning to the term natural remedy.

Using hundreds of honeybees, a new study reveals the venom in these insects' stingers quickly kills breast cancer cells.

Dr Ciara Duffy says honeybee venom destroys multiple types of breast cancer, even the hard to treat triple-negative variety.

The study in the journal, Precision Oncology finds honeybee venom not only eradicates these cancers, it also breaks up a cancerous cell's ability to reproduce.

The venom also contains a compound called melittin which researchers say helps this natural remedy stop the disease with remarkable speed.

■ It probably won't take a great deal of persuasion to convince investors that there's an "age of disorder."

That's the title of a new Deutsche Bank research note, which says the world is entering its sixth distinct era of modern times.

So say goodbye to the "era of globalization" and brace yourself for the "age of disorder" where millennials, firmly established as the generation of 'have nots', take their revenge and redistribute wealth from the old to young.

Millennials are usually defined as those between the ages of 22 and 38 years old in 2019, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The note by strategist Jim Reid warns the discussion of inequality within and between countries will not be limited to wealth and income.

"In fact, an issue that is quickly emerging as a political force is the intergenerational gap," the report says.

"Assuming life does not become more economically favourable for Millennials as they age (many find house prices increasingly out of reach), this could be a potential turning point for society and start to change election results and thus change policy."

US debt problems ■ US government debt is on track to exceed the size of the economy for the 12 months ended Sept. 30, a milestone not hit since World War II that has been brought into reach by a giant fiscal response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Congressional Budget Office is expected to report on Wednesday that federal debt held by the public is projected to reach or exceed 100 per cent of U.S. gross domestic product, the broadest measure of U.S. economic output.

That would put the U.S. in the company of a handful of nations with debt loads that exceed their economies, including Japan, Italy and Greece.

The surge in borrowing so far isn't creating angst among investors or hampering the U.S.'s ability to borrow more. Investors have gobbled up U.S. Treasury assets, drawn to their relative safety.

Moreover, interest rates are expected to remain low, suggesting the government still has plenty of room to borrow. By another measure, the U.S. passed the mark in the April to June quarter, when government spending surged to combat the new coronavirus and tax revenue plunged.

But this would be the first time in more than 70 years for it to do so for the federal government's full fiscal year.

The last time the U.S. debt level exceeded economic output was in 1946, when it stood at 106% after years of financing military operations to help end the Second World War. "The problem, of course, is spending. More and more and more and more and more spending.

The promises of "free" stuff come with a price tag and are not free. Even a relatively bright 10-year-old knows that." said a Washington insider who has worked for both political parties. "People in government, in both parties, are like really bad alcoholics. They simply can't stop themselves from spending. Ever!"

■ Irene Hewitt was born in 1922 and began singing at an early age. Irene was 18 when she became the resident vocalist in Tye's Radio Revue on 3XY, which was broadcast every Sunday night from the Princess Theatre.

The compere was Eric Pearce, and Irene sang Ida Sweet As Apple Cider as her debut song on the show. On many occasions Irene sang duets with Jack Perry.

She sang at many of the local dances and was also resident vocalist at the Coconut Grove Nightclub in Chapel St, South Yarra.

Around that time she married her first husband, who played saxophone in the band at The Coconut Grove. Irene also sang regularly at the famous Chevron Hotel.

In 1954 Irene appeared on the national radio show Australia's Hour of Song with Dick Fair.

She was a regular guest on ABC radio shows and sang on cruise ships.

In 1957 Irene was cast in the television series Take That which was a ‘live to air’ 15-minute school classroom comedy. It was one of the first comedy shows produced by Crawford Productions, a bit like Yes What, the old radio series.

Take That also starred English actor Phillip Stainton, Joff Ellen, Frank Rich, Keith Eden and Jack Perry.

Irene sang on many television variety shows during her career. Her film credits include Blue Fire Lady, Dimboola, I Live With Me Dad and Lonely Hearts.

In 1981 Irene was cast as Mrs Swabb, the housekeeper, in an Australian tour of the Alan Bennett-play, Habeus Corpus. The cast included a great bunch of popular television actors - English actor Frank Thornton (Are You Being Served), Pat McDonald (Number 96) and Liz Burch (The Flying Doctors) .

There was a night during the tour when a leg snapped off the stage settee that almost everyone had to sit on. Irene madly searched around back stage in the dark and finally walked onstage with a paint tin which she popped under the edge of the settee and the play proceeded without a hitch.

and his wife and they always sent each other Christmas cards. Irene played guest roles in many television series including Prisoner and The Henderson Kids.

Irene loved music and was a regular attendee at the International Sinatra meetings. Some of her recordings were - When Johnny Comes Marching Home, I Didn't Know The Gun Was Loaded and One More River To Cross (with Don Harper and His Orchestra).

In 1997 Irene was a guest vocalist at a special fundraising concert for 96.5FM. It was a big show with Val Jellay, Clyde Simpson, Bruce Skeggs, David McGee, Ray Lawrence, The Creole Bells and many others in the line up.

Irene Hewitt loved life and when she was very ill she just refused to give in and slipped out of the hospital to visit her friends.

She passed away in 2004 and I attended her funeral. Long time friends Terry Gill and Carole Anne got everyone singing. Irene would have loved it and also the thunderous applause as the coffin was carried out of the funeral parlour.

Selena was involved in the new romcom feature film The Broken Hearts Gallery. The film has already had rave reviews and stars two young Australian actors – Geraldine Viswanathan and Dacre Montgomery. You are sure to hear more of these two, catch the film if you can.

■ Coca Cola has a reputation for producing mega creative (and expensive) commercials for international exposure at Christmas. This year is no exception. We will let you into a secret. The ommercial is the work of New Zealander Taika Waitibi and tells the heart tugging story of a young girl writing to Santa to bring her Dad come home for Christmas. It all ends happily. Compelling and darkly disturbing Southern Gothic bible-belt thriller is laced with a series of intertwining threads throughout which at times seems inessential to solve, however, once the threads begin to weave together, the tapestry slowly unveils to reveal a meticulously disturbing and intelligent time jumping thriller of brooding menace of people, a place and a time that grips like a vice and refuses to let go once you have entered its unique world with-in a world.

The list of characters includes a deeply tormented WWII veteran (Bill Skarsgard), a self-possessed spider crazed evangelist (Harry Melling), a dangerously twisted travelling couple of evilly perverted intentions (Jason Clarke and Riley Keough), an unholy preacher (Robert Pattinson), and a crooked Sheriff (Sebastian Stan), among other colourful characters, however, the standout is "Spiderman" star Tom Holland as the young and protective Arvin with a bewitching and compulsive performance of total believability as he fights the threatening forces that increasingly surround him.

Based on the novel by Donald Ray Pollack, who supplies the delightfully entrancing narration, co-produced by Jake Gyllenhaal, and co-written and directed with tremendous grip and sensitivity by Antonio Campos, and aided by a significantly striking soundtrack, the end result is a deep rooted, intelligent, slow burning, provocative and haunting backwoods tale on delusion, loss and the abandonment of control, all brimming with a mixture of knife-cutting atmosphere, eerie chills and uneasy seat-squirming suspense with the devil at its heels.

Stars: *** Review: Movies about possessed or menacing inanimate objects are almost a genre unto themselves with such devilish delights that includes Dolls in "Dead of Night" (1945) and Annabelle in "The Conjuring" series, Cars in John Carpenter's "Christine" (1983) and "The Car" (1977), a Computer in Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968), a Videotape in "The Ring" series, a Television in Tobe Hooper's "Poltergeist" (1982), almost endless haunted house movies, most notably "The Innocents" (1961), "The Haunting" (1963) and "The Changeling" (1980), the Ark of the Covenant in Steven Spielberg's "Raiders of The Lost Ark" (1981) and even a Homicidal Car Tyre in "Rubber" in 2010, to name just a few.

Brimming with an array of striking colour palates to enrich the 70s feel, and driven by a stellar cast that includes Marianne JeanBaptiste, Hayley Squires, Steve Oram and Julian Barratt, among others, they all combine to reveal bizarrely fun, subtle, bonkers, ambiguous and deliriously artificial horror-comedy that remains consistently frightening and inventive throughout, and even though it remains consistently busy on the surface, there is a shallowness at its centre, but overall, this story of a haunted one size fits all blood coloured dress works well, and is a worthy addition to the growing list possessed objects before it.

Breezily likeable is the best way to describe the new film from Sofia Coppola, whose lightweight touch actually suits the material this time around.

Rashida Jones stars as Laura, an author who has been married to Dean (Marlon Wayans) for several years, with their two young daughters taking up a lot of her time.

Dean is constantly travelling, trying to make his newly created advertising agency a success, but a strange incident suddenly makes Laura believe her marriage isn't as stable as she once thought.

Giving this doubt added life is Laura's playboy father Felix (Bill Murray), who irresponsibly encourages his daughter to follow her husband.

Complications ensue when she agrees to do so. On The Rocks gets off to a shaky start, feeling like a Woody Allen-Whit Stillman wannabe (also reminding me of Rebecca Miller's disappointing 2015 film Maggie's Plan), but once Bill Murray arrives on the scene, things pick up considerably.

Murray is in fine form, and what's better is the chemistry between him and the wonderful Jones, who both appear comfortable ad-libbing with each other.

Like Coppola's previous efforts, this is slight stuff, but there is a noticeably relaxed nature to her direction here, allowing the story to just entertain.

Outdated patriarchal entitlement is very gently touched upon, and there is obvious inspiration from Coppola's own relationship with her larger-than-life father, Francis Ford Coppola.

On The Rocks may not be substantial viewing, but it is surprisingly fun (and one of the most laconic views of New York City ever seen), anchored by terrific performances by two actors who expertly know how to play off one another.

Sputnik ■ (MA). 113 minutes. Opens in selected states October 1.

A deft mix of sc-fi/horror and political commentary, this smartly crafted endeavour makes for absorbing viewing.

Set in 1983, when the Cold War between the USSR and the USA was still going strong, the film opens with a two-man space module making a less-than-routine return to earth.

Only one, Konstantin (Pyotr Fyodorov), survives, and is taken to a secret military facility to be treated and briefed. Colonel

Semiradov (Fedor Bondarchuk), in charge of the operation, persuades outspoken doctor Tatiana Klimova (Oksana Akinshina) to oversee and detail Konstantin's condition, but she soon sees that the cosmonaut's issues don't originate from this world.

Screenwriters Oleg Malovichko and Andrey Zolotarev astutely use an era many of us remember to examine what is happening in Russia now, with a government's increasingly overt suppression of freedom of speech and difference in political viewpoints.

The situation involving Konstantin intelligently symbolises the varying moral paths people under such tyranny may walk down in order to survive.

While these themes give the material a meaty foundation, director Egor Abramenko doesn't forget to deliver a highly entertaining scifi/horror/thriller, and Sputnik succeeds on this level as well. Performances are fine, with Akinshina (Lilya 4-Ever) a clear stand-out.

Production values are first-rate.

However you want to approach it, Sputnik is a winner, and deserves to find an audience before the inevitable remake shuffles our way.

Antebellum ■ (MA). 105 minutes. Opens in selected states October 1.

If you're looking for subtlety, Antebellum isn't the film for you. If you're after a visceral, atmospheric thriller that uses an interesting gimmick to look at important subject matter, then chances are you will be reasonably enthralled.

The story centres on Eden (Janelle Monae), a slave who works on a notorious cotton farm, and along with her fellow prisoners, is constantly abused by the Confederate owners of the plantation.

After a number of failed escapes, Eden plans another one, but things take some strange turns which will not only affect the present, but also the future.

Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, making their feature film debut, direct proceedings with confidence, and with a talented technical crew, ensure that this is a gorgeous looking movie.

Their script is a mixed bag, presenting its sadly relevant themes and messages in a heavy-handed, obvious manner, rather than quietly weaving them into a story that gets under your skin in a genuinely unsettling way.

The duo also seem influenced by the films of M. Night Shyamalan, and Alex Cox's 1987 cult movie, Walker. It's on the brink of falling into another civil war.

The Lane hosts People’s awards ■ John Rozentals congratulates The Lane in its showing of wines from Orange.

The Lane Cellars is hosting the inaugural 'People's Choice Wine Awards' for Orange Region Wines in the lead-up to the 2020 Orange Wine Festival.

The awards are a new consumer-based survey designed to engage Orange Region Wine drinkers at a time when COVID-19 has caused the cancellation of a number of major events during the Orange Wine Festival.

The awards cover 10 key categories, from Sparkling Wines and Sauvignon Blanc, through to Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Lane Cellars People's Choice Wine Awards winners will be announced on October 2, at the beginning of the Orange Wine Festival.

"The wine festival is a key event in the region's calendar, and we wanted create a bit of fun, and interest in the local wines. Usually there's the wine show and its tasting, but this has been cancelled this year," said The Lane Cellars coowner, David Cumming.

"The survey has been open for a number of weeks now, and we've had a great response.

Golden Rose is a beauty ■ Top Queensland colt Rothfire made a big statement in demolishing a class field of threeyear olds in the Run to the Rose over 1200 metres at Rosehill with a blistering turn of pace to outgun a class field.

He is the ruling favourite for the Golden Rose a the moment. His record is seven wins from his eight starts with a second.

Prepared by leading Queensland trainer, Robert Heathcote, he could be the next Buffering for the elite stable.

Rothfire is by Rothesay from the New Zealand mare, Huss of Fire, superbly named.

We know how good Buffering was, and Heathcote is convinced that Rothfire will be right up there with the old champion.

In the Run to The Rose, he was up against one of the best-ever fields of top three-yearolds, including the favourite, Farnan, the winner of the Golden Slipper.

At the start, Farnan flew the barriers, and was going at a furious pace, clocking sensational sectionals, but petered out to finish fifth.

A big run in the race was that of Ole Kirk, despised in the betting, he finished strongly to run a good second.

His stablemate, North Pacific, came home hard and wants longer; he was down for the Golden Rose to be run at Rosehill over 1400 metres, previously 1500 metres.

His stablemate, Doubtland, an impressive winner of the Group two Danehill Stakes over 1200 metres at Flemington, is smart and one of the Hawkes team, Wayne, who trains out of Melbourne, says he is all class.

Kings Legacy, a good colt on his day, was run off his feet by the pace of Farnan and was a beaten horse at the turn and finished at the rear of the field.

Prepared by Peter and Paul Snowden, he is much better than that, and the step up to 1400 metres here, is more up his alley.

The consistent Mamaragan, placed in the Golden Slipper, suffered the same fate as King's Legacy, beaten for pace.

Leading rider, Nash Rawiller, has a big opinion of the colt.

However, he has had some hard racing, and has been up for a while.

There are big raps about the New Zealand three- year-old, Mo'unga, who put in a magnificent performance to win the Dulcify Quality over 1500 metres.

Out of the New Zealand mare, Chandelier,

by Cox Plate winner, Savabeel, he made it three wins from three starts, in the care of top trainer, Chris Waller.

His run in the Dulcify was brilliant; he was in all the trouble in the world, but his rider, James Mc Donald, using all his class, got a run and he did the rest. He is one to watch in this.

Prague with the top combination of Ciaron and David Eustace, ran a reasonable fourth in the Danehill Stakes after taking over the lead up the Flemington straight six, only to be run down late.

His rider, John Allen seemed to go too early and he was caught like a sitting duck when the whips were cracking.

On his day he has a good turn of foot and

Missile gelding, and feel he can carry his form on.

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained Aim was fancied early before being a scratching at Flemington in the second, to run in the Dulcify at Rosehill, when he ran out of a place.

Prior to that he had won two of nine starts and was fourth to Holyfield at Rosehill.

Easy Campesi, a consistent type with John Sergeant, ran a good fourth behind the good galloper, Mo'unga, and hadn't missed a place in his previous five outings.

One from the Maher-Eustace camp in, Jet Propulsion ran a creditable third behind Mo'unga, and is worth following, but this might be a bit hard.

While Overlord can do a lot of things wrong, although he has ability and will win a good race, but not here.

■ I was saddened to hear from leading owner, John Sweeney, that former top jockey, Peter Mertens, is not well.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Peter couldn't talk long, unfortunately he is really battling.

A winner of over 2500 races, he had a very bad fall back in 2013 at Hamilton, badly injuring his shoulder. This brought about his retirement.

John said Peter won many a race for him, 17 in all.These included the Sunline Stakes on Candy Vale, and Pretty Penny, the sire of Pretty Brazen and others.

In all he booted home seven Group One winners, including two on Sirmione, for Bart Cummings, including the Australian Cup. He also scored for John Sweeney on Dame Claire in the Ansett Classic. Dame Claire was the dam of the ill-fated McLairey, which John raced, unfortunately injured racing.

Tim is on the mend ■ Former Racing Editor of the Herald Sun, Tim Habel, is on the mend, and back in action.

Tim is the popular Secretary of the Victorian Media Association, and was hit with an illness a few weeks back.

I contacted him via email, and the good news: he said he was back on deck.

Great news, well done Tim, will catch up soon.

McPherson Team races well ■ Prolific owner/breeder Duncan McPherson's large team are racing particularly well at the moment and internationally bred Muscle HillZoia Boko colt Aldebaran Zeus was a brilliant victor of the Thanks To All Front Line Workers 2Y0 Trotters Handicap over 2190 metres at Maryborough on Monday September 21 to commence another week of regional racing.

Having his first outing since May, Aldebaran Zeus trained by Brent Lilley and driven by Chris Alford was swiftly away from a 20 metre backmark and was immediately sent forward to arrest the lead away from first starter Evas Image at the post on the first occasion which had stepped cleanly from the pole.

Rated to perfection, Aldebaran Zeus ran out an easy 9.6 metre victor from Evas Image, with Illawong Moonbeam third 9.8 metres away after always being handy after a slow beginning.

The mile rate 2-05.2.

■ Beeac trainer Courtney Slater and Bungaree reinsman Michael Stanley enjoyed a good afternoon after snaring a double - Fremarkspoetry taking the Maryborough Bearings & Industrial Supplies Trotters Mobile and Goodtime Floyd the TAB Long May We Play Pace.

Fremarkspoetry, a 4Y0 daughter of Majestic Son and A Poem Kept who produced an outstanding performance to win first up at Stawell on September 6 after giving away a gigantic start, trotted to perfection on this occasion, going forward from outside the front line to shadow the leader Sleepee (gate two).

Driven with extreme confidence, Fremarkspoetry scored by 1.6 metres in advance of Birthday Suit (one/one at bell), with Sleepee 2.4 metres away in third place when first up from July. The mile rate 2-01.9.

■ Somebeachsomewhere-Bella Joy colt Goodtime Floyd brought up a hat-trick of wins in his event. Settling mid-field in the moving line after going forward at the start from gate three, Goodtime Floyd ran home strongly to prevail by 3.8 metres in 1-58.9 from Myzarmi which followed him home. Our Sir Oliver (three back the markers) used the sprint lane for third 3.1 metres back.

■ Another Beeac (Elliminyt) winner on the day was Daniel and Sheryl Laird's consistent 6Y0 Shadyshark Hanover-Neon Dancer mare Shady Dancer who snared the RTB Redpath Tyre & Battery Services Pace over 1690 metres. With Ararat's Michael Bellman in the sulky, Shady Dancer starting from inside the second line was able to follow the poleline leader Officially Shady all the way enjoying a sweet trip. Easing away from the inside approaching the final bend, Shady Dancer finished best to register a 2.5 metre margin over the raging hot favourite Vigoroso which raced exposed from the bell. Oficially Shady held down third 7.2 metres back. The mile rate 1-57.8.

■ Riddell trainer/driver Chris Lang's 3Y0 Orlando Vici-Moyabamba gelding Red White And Bloom was impressive in taking the 2190 metre Aldebaran Park Trotters Mobile in a rate of 203.3. Having his first start since April, Red White And Bloom was taken back from gate five to possie five back along the markers as Iona Spider led from gate four.

Coming away from the inside to race exposed for the final circuit, Red White And Bloom showed plenty of heart to defy all challengers, accounting for Little Yankee which trailed the pacemaker by 7.4 metres. Iona Spider held on for third 1.6 metres away.

Kilmore fixture ■ The Claire Weston Photography Pace over 1690 metres commenced the Kilmore fixture on Tuesday with the victor being Monegeeta based 4Y0 Bettors Delight-Majestic Reign gelding Reign Maker for part-owner/trainer Nick Beale and youthful reinsman Jayden Barker who is attached to the David Miles stable.

Given a cosy passage from gate three trailing the poleline leader Notorious Joe, Reign Maker finished hard along the sprint lane two account for Whenthestarzzzaline (one/two) by 2.3 metres which switched down to the sprint lane on turning, with the hot favourite Payment Plan third 2.4 metres back after racing exposed.

The mile rate 1-55.6.

Trained at Mitchell Park by Kelvin Barker and driven by Chris Alford, Cadenza a 4Y0 gelded son of Bettors Delight and Top Tempo was sent forward from outside the front line to park outside Forest Force which led from the pole.

Showing plenty of toughness, Cadenza kept on giving in the straight to record a half neck margin from Braeview Fella which moved from the back of the leader on turning. Magic Cruiser (one/two) was third 2.8 metres away.

■ Cardigan trainer Anton Golino's beautifully bred Quaker Jet-Sumthingaboutmaori filly Imamaorijet was a big victor of the Carlton & United Breweries 3Y0 Maiden Trotters Mobile over 2180 metres. Bred and raced by Yabby Dam Farm Pty. Ltd. Imamaorijet (Jason Lee) settled three back in the moving line from gate two on the second row before going forward mid-race to park outside the leader Bellmac Bambi for the final circuit. Surging clear prior to the home turn, Imamaorijet blitzed her rivals, greeting the judge 5.9 metres in advance of Jazspur which ran home from mid-field in a rate of 2-04.3, with Bellmac Bambi holding down third 11.6 metres back.

■ Daylesford trainer/driver Anne-Maree Conroy's 8Y0 Framework-Melva Grace gelding Uncle Al ran up to his last start second at Ballarat when successful in the 2190 metre OKR 98.3FM Trotters Handicap. Stepping safely from barrier four, Uncle Al was awarded the front after Mystic Chip galloped running into the first turn and after being rated to perfection, kicked clear on turning to just last by a head from Morgan Mylee (one/one at bell) and Regal Assassin which trailed the winner finishing a neck back.

Double Day ■ It was double day on Wednesday with Stawell racing in the afternoon and Bendigo at night.

It's ironical how things occur at times, take Stawell's fixture when Heston Blue Chip-Apple Of My Eye gelding The Big End Oftown scored in the Stawell Lotto 3Y0 Pace over 1785 metres.

Bred and raced by Geelong's Philip Nott who unfortunately passed away the night before, The Big End Oftown ($32.20) trained at Anakie by Tim Bolitho and driven by Michelle Phillips, led throughout to easily account for Surfsup Tigerpie which raced exposed from the bell, with Rosarito Miss third after following the runner up all of the way. The margins 5.1 metres by a head in a rate of 1-58.9.

Philip a former Geelong HRC President and committeeman was a long time bookmaker who operated around many Victorian tracks as well as conducting a highly profitable betting agency on international cricket which turned over millions of dollars. He loved nothing more than to breed and race standardbreds with his most thrilling success being Off The Old winning the Geelong Pacing Cup in 1999.

■ Armstrong based Jason Ainsworth has 6Y0 Down Under Muscles-Walara Bow mare Sarahleonie Bow racing in peak form at present and made it three wins from her last four outings when successful in the 2180 metre Perry's Footwear Trotters Mobile at Stawell. Taken back to the tail from gate six as Dicko Dixon led from outside her, Sarahleonie Bow made a fast move

racing for the bell to assume control in the last lap, scoring by 1.6 metres in a 2-04 mile rate from A Nip Will Do which was always handy.

Dicko Dixon held down third 6.1 metres back.

■ Bendigo trainer Shaun McNaulty was in the winners stall following the victory of 4Y0 Big Jim-Lomeka mare Springa in the D & Y Harris Plumbing Pace over 1785 metres. Driven by stable reinsman Rod Lakey, Springa began swiftly from gate five to pounce on the lead and was never headed, reaching the judge 8.6 metres ahead of Tinge Of Fear (one/three) and Misschanel (one/two). The mile rate 2-00.9.

■ At Bendigo, Bolinda's Lisa Miles was victorious with recent stable addition Shes A Hovercraft, a daughter of Night Of The Stars and De La Rosa who recorded a big win in the TAB Long May We Play Pace over 2150 metres.

Restrained back to the tail of the field from outside the front line, Shes A Hovercraft despite being four wide in the last lap dashed to the front on turning to score by 6.6 metres from Safe Jewels (three wide ahead of her) and Bella Bronski (one/two), returning a mile rate of 1-57.9.

■ Wallan trainer Ruth Shinn combined with son Chris to capture the Yankee Rockstar Standing At Northern Rivers Equine Pace over 2150 metres with 5Y0 Rock N Roll Heaven-Awesomely mare Righteously. Bred and raced by long time stable clients Justin and Stephanie O'Brien, Righteously spent most of the race one/one from gate two and after making a swift forward move to be outside the pacemaker Four Lonely Nights on the final bend, ran home best to prevail by a head from the leader, with Jessies Girl a head away third after easing off the back of Four Lonely Nights on straightening to be four wide in the straight. The rate 1-59.9.

■ Popular Kilmore reinsman "Aussie" Mifsud landed the Best Accounting & Audit Trotters Handicap over 2150 metres with ex-Kiwi 5Y0 Majestic Son-Sunny Connie gelding Majestic Connies. Trained by Bolinda's Brent Lilley for Julie Mifsud (Aussies wife), Majestic Connies having her second start on Australian soil began brilliantly from 10 metres to assume control on the first turn. Rated well, Majestic Connies scored by a neck over Benji Hall which tried hard after racing exposed, with Love The Aces third a half head away off a one/one trip. The mile rate 2-02.7.

Connections elated ■ Shepparton was the Thursday venue and Junortoun's Graham family - Garry, Melva and Kirsten were elated when their 4Y0 A Rocknroll Dance-Three Secrets gelding Heza Secret at start number two scored in the 2190 metre Shepparton BMW Maiden Pace, Trained by Garry, Heza Secret driven by Bendigo based Jayden Brewin after starting inside the second line finished full of running from a mid-field passage to register a 8.5 metre victory from Not So Big from near last returning a mile rate of 2-00.7. Awesome Reactor was third 2.7 metres away after racing in the open.

■ The JDC ConstructionsTrotters Mobile over 2190 metres looked to be a highly competitive race, however the heavily supported favourite Peregrine Phoenix first up since July for the Romsey stable of Chris Svanosio justified the backing by winning in a rate of 2-02.9.

Driven by Chris, Peregrine Phoenix began best to lead from barrier three, before electing to take a trail on Nerveracking who handed over to Lord Loki which had been slow to begin from the extreme draw within a lap. Using the sprint lane, Peregrine Phoenix finished with great zest to defeat Nerveracking by a neck which also used the sprint lane, with Lord Loki a game third 4.2 metres back.

■ Avenel's David Aiken enjoyed a profitable night, chalking up three wins during the evening.

Trouble Looming (Western Terror-Dazed And Confused - Ryan Sanderson) used the sprint lane off the back of the leader Staress to land the Neatline Homes Pace over 1690 metres in 200.7, Letsrockletsroll (Rock N Roll Heaven-Full Pleasure) ran home strongly from four back in the moving line to take the 2190 metre TAB Long May We Play Pace in 1-59.2 and Honolua Bay (Somebeachsomewhere-National Gallery) was victorious in the 1690 metre Alabar 3Y0

Peeling three wide off a one/one trip on the home turn, Scootin Around scored by a half neck in 204.4 from Abitofadreamer along the sprint lane after trailing the leader Daring Angel. Goober a stablemate of the winner was third 8.4 metres away after racing exposed.

■ Phillips' other winners were Gatesys Alley (Mick Hughes - Iona) in the Dynamic Print Group Trotters Mobile over 2240 metres, Dansbro (Rick Cashman - Cranbourne) the Benstud Standardbred Pace over 2240 metres and Sassyola (Dianne Giles - Melton) the 1720 metre Alabar Pace.

■ Kyal Costello snared the TAB Long May We Play 3Y0 Pace over 2240 metres with his Koo Wee Rup based father Brad's trained Sportswriter-Precious Macray gelding Datizit in a rate of 2-00.8.

Despite racing in the open, Datizit raced clear on turning to register a strong 5.6 metre margin over Steele (one/one) and Mister Macedon which led, finishing 2.6 metres back.

Kyal had earlier in the day led throughout aboard the Michael Burns (Truganina) trained Hes Watching-Libra Jaccka gelding Rendezvous in the Schweppes 2Y0 Maiden Pace over 1720 metres, accounting for Im Eugene and All The Fours. The margins 4.1 metres by a nose in two minutes even.

Police look for missing Springvale girl Soe Mar Yar Bee ■ Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate missing teenager Soe Mar Yar Bee. The 15-year-old was last seen at her Springvale address about 2am 27 September.

Police and family hold concerns for Soe Mar Yar Bee’s welfare due to her age and her disappearance is out of character.

Anyone who sees Soe Mar Yar Bee is urged to contact Springvale Police Station on 8558 8600.
