SPRINGFIELD IS CARDINIA’S NEW MAYOR ■ Ranges Ward Councillor Jeff Springfield has been elected Mayor of Cardinia Shire at Council’s annual statutory meeting. Cr Springfield said he was excited about the appointment and expressed his gratitude to his fellow councillors for their votes of confidence. This is the second time Cr Springfield has been Mayor of Cardinia Shire. Cr Springfield said he was looking forward to leading the Council in the year ahead. “I am thrilled to be leading this Council as Mayor over the next 12 months,” he said. “The year ahead will be an important year for our residents as we recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We have seen so much social and economic disruptions recently and we must assist our community where we can as their elected community leaders.” Officer Ward councillor Tammy Radford has been elected as Deputy Mayor for 2021-22. Cr Radford said she saw the role of Deputy Mayor as being sounding board for the Mayor.
Upper Beaconsfield park honours Kath Roberts
■ A park honouring Kath Roberts, whose family had the Post Office and store in 1930s and 40s at Upper Beaconsfield, has been officially opened. Kath Roberts lived in a house on the corner of Woods St and Beaconsfield Avenue. The park features Cardinia Council’s first double climbing cube. Kath Roberts Reserve playground has been upgraded and now features new play spaces as well as shelters, seating, landscaping and connecting concrete pathways. The playground also featured the double climbing cube with a basket swing in the centre. The colourful playground also showcases a monkey bar and turn-over bar unit. The Victoria Government committed $79,000 towards the project as part of the
