TOP GONG FOR MARK
Queen’s Birthday honour for Narre Warren volunteer
■ A CAREER Policeman with service at stations including Berwick, Narre Warren and Dandenong has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours this week. Inspector Christopher Major was named on Monday (June 14) as a recipient of the Australian Police Medal. Inspector Major joined Victoria Police in 1975 and upon graduating he performed general duties at Russell Street. In 1978 he transferred to Dandenong Police Station where he performed general duties for two years before being promoted to Senior Constable at Berwick Police Station in 1980. In 1985 he was promoted to the rank or Sergeant, performing supervisory uniform duties at Moorabbin Police Station for three years before transferring to Dandenong Police Station in 1988, performing a further three years as a uniform Sergeant. In 1991 he was promoted as a Senior Sergeant at Training Distrcit before transferring the Narre Warren Police Station where he spent two years. In 1994 he became the Officxer-in-Charge of the Moe Police Station where he spent two years managing the police station and working with the local community. He was promoted to the rank of Inspector in 1997 and served until 2017 as a Local Area Commander across numerous Police Service ASreas predominantly in the Gippsland Region. In 2017 he transferred into the Capability Department working within the Capability Management and Engagement Division and holds that position to date. The APM honour citation notes: “He has played a key role in developing the frameworks and guidelines now in place at the Capability Department, all driving strategic processes to achieve a safer and more secure community. “Inspector Major, throughout his career, has gained the highest level of respect and trust amongst his VICPOL colleagues and he has provided the community of Victoria with outstanding service.

■ NARRE WARREN volunteer Mark Durdin has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours this week. The Noble Park Football Club identity was cited for his achievements locally, and with Deaf Australia Football.

Mark Wayne Durdin was named on Monday (June 14) in recognition of “service to people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Mark was President of Deaf Australia Football from 20072016, and was a former Board member. He was made a Life Member in 2016, and became a Hall of Fame Inductee in 2019. Locally, Mark has been Club Person of the Year at Noble Park Football Club. He has been a Senior Tam Manager since 2012, Reserves Team Manager 2009-2011, Under 18s Team Manager 2006-08, Junior President in 2009, a player in the 1990s, a Junior Life Member in 2009, and made a Life Member in 2014. He was a player with the South Australia Deaf Football Club from 1980-82, also serving as an administrator, coach, Hall of Fame inbductee and Life Member. He isd President of Deaf Darts Australia.
