■ The winning streak continues with the girls from Yea. even girls meandered up the road to the Alexandra Golf Club to try their luck. Another day of fog to start proceedings. The positive for the day one can say is that they hit their ball out of sight on numerous occasions. Needed the windscreen wipers on the glasses, that’s for sure. But come later in the day you could not wish for a better day the sun warming the soul. Shame about the golf for many, but sure was an awesome day in the end. Judging by the scores it was a tough day at the office but obviously those attuned to the climate, it wasn’t a problem. Two girls shined: one being the birthday girl Di Holdsworth who was having a joyous day out to celebrate her birthday wining BGrade Nett, gaining two player of the year points plus a win in the small teams and to top it off one of the prizes in the raffle. Happy Birthday Di and congratulations on a fabulous day. Our next shining star, Jan Wealands won C Grade scratch, one of the NTP, 3 player of the year points and of course a raffle prize. Just because she was sitting on the winning table Di Elliott also claimed a raffle prize Well done girls, an awesome day out. - Karen Sangster Wednesday saw the boys play three-person Multiplied Stableford with six teams competing. YEA BATTLES HARD
SENIORS Powelltown 22.22 (154) defeated Yea 14.5 (89) Yea battled hard on Saturday but were ultimately outclassed by Powelltown to the tune of 65 points. The Tigers were sharp early, kicking four quick goals to take an early lead before giving it up just shy of quarter time, before a second quarter onslaught from the home side gave them a 30-point buffer at the main break. It was a brave effort from the visitors after half time, who were without a bench half following game-ending injuries to Daniel Evans, Corbin Sutherland, Aidan McSpeerin and Elliot Pyke. Harrison Jarvie and Adrian McCarthy both starred through the midfield once again, while Cameron Evans also found plenty of the football and Billy Bowe impressed on debut. Josh Carroll was the dominant force in attack, booting six majors as the deepest forward and causing headaches all day for the Powelltown defence. Yea are on the road again this week when they meet Yarra Junction. Goalkickers: J. Carroll 6, E. Pyke 2, H. Jarvie, J. McMaster, C. Evans, B. Bowe, T. McMahon, C. Sutherland Best Players: H. ■ Cr Ilona Gerencser last week gave a report to Murrindindi Shire Council on her activities as Kinglake Ward representative. “This month we’ve had a lot of positivity in Kinglake. “On April 18 we had the first Kinglake Show and Shine, which was organized by Angelo Ladas from Pav Promotions. “It was a hug eday in Kinglake with $531 being raised towards the Kinglake CFA. “This was an astronomical success. The town was buzzing and all traders subsequently had a great day. I’m hoping that with further support we can make this a regular event in Kinglake. “Special thanks goes to John and Helen at the pub for stepping up to the mark and supplying food, drinks and much needed coffee, when the food trucks had to pull out. “ANZAC Day services in Kinglake were a bit more low key this year, but moving all the same. I was lucky enough to attend the dawn service at St Peter’s Church with around 50 locals. “The church did an amazing job of putting together the service and I had the honor of laying wreaths for the Murrindindi Shire and Cindy McLeash. “We also had the 10am service at the Kinglake Community Centre which was put on by the Lions Club of Kinglake. “This was another stand out service, with beautiful music and history from the Kinglake Historical Society. Thank you to both venues for allowing me to attend. “The signage has gone up for the Kinglake Streetscape works throughout the town. It’s an exciting time and will vastly improve the look and accessibility of the town. “The positivity it will bring, once it is finished will be a welcome addition to our town. “Even though there will be some disruption within the town, we have been assured by the construction company that it will be as minimal as possible. The decision to do this work during the colder months was at the request of the traders, to ensure that when we get to the warmer weather it’ll be all systems go. “As long as we are patient and understanding in the knowledge that it won’t be going on forever, it should be a great asset to the town. “The Council have been out in force this week as the road grading and upgrading works have commenced. Gutters are being cleaning out and gravel laid. If you’re curious as to which road is next, please check out the webpage for updates. “In relation to the Streetscape in Pheasant Creek, this will be re-advertised for interested parties due to no one showing interest at the last request for tender. Council is doing everything it can to get this done, so please, if you are interested in being a part of this apply via the tender process once advertised. “The CFA tank on the corner of Bald Spur Rd is soon to be replaced with a new one. There may be some delays in this area, so please be patient whilst this is underway. As always, if there is an issue with something in your area, please Snap Send Solve or lodge a request on the council website. If we don’t know about it, we can’t fix it. You’re always invited to email me on igerencser@murrindindi.vic.gov.au if you need any help or have any questions.”
