■ Murrindindi Shire Council held Australia day celebrations at six centres on Tuesday last week (Jan. 26). Celebrations were held at Alexandra, Eildon, Flowerdale, Kinglake, Strath Creek and Yea. Elise Anderson received the Citizen of the Year Award from Cr Damian Gallagher at Alexandra. Nicholas Charles was presented with his Young Citizen of the Year Award at the Yea Shire Hall by Mayor Cr Sandice McAulay. John Stewart was recognised at the Kinglake celebrations. Councillors were out and about at the various celebrations. Crs Sue Carpenter and John Walsh were present at Strath Creek, where locals moved to the Hall because of threatening weather. Stewart Hall gave acknwoledgement of country, and Masterof-Ceremonies Terry Hubbard welcomed all. The National Anthem was led by Lauren Elizabeth and Jessica Parncutt.
Aust. Day awards
● Fiona Gruber, Flowerdale-based freelance reporter for the ABC, was pictured at Strath Creek on Australia Day. Fiona is assembling a radio documentary about Landcare at Strath Creek. The project is being funded by Murrindindi Shire Council. The program is called ‘Plant A Tree To Grow A Community’.
● On behalkf of the Rotary Club of Yea, Carol Hogg accepted a certificate of appreciation from Murrindindi Shire Council Mayor Cr Sandice McAulay (pictured at left).
