It matters domestically – where we live, how we experience Exeter, how we navigate the city from our base. It matters commercially – where our companies are based, what retail and office space there is, how the city houses and encourages clever expanding enterprises. And it matters aesthetically. The built environment and bequeathed visual legacy enriches all our lives, daily. No wonder this city simply teems with clever property companies shaping our city’s destiny and acting as a bellwether for the wider region. It is for all those reasons and more that we launched the Exeter Property Awards, to celebrate the best property business and to highlight the centrality of property to us all. We have been overwhelmed by the support in our first year. Thank you. SAM MCALISTER INTERVIEWS PRODUCER

or ten years Sam was the interviews producer on BBC 2’s flagship news programme Newsnight, securing head-to-head pieces with Silicon Valley CEOs, world leaders and Hollywood stars. A former barrister, she turned to journalism after a successful career in criminal law and has since negotiated with everyone from Buckingham Palace to the White House, Facebook to Tesla. Working in a largely unseen role, Sam undertook the delicate negotiations that underpin some of the biggest exclusive interviews in British news. From the initial approaches through research and up to the filming of the piece, she built and maintained relationships with subjects and their representatives whilst retaining journalistic integrity and independence. Sam has extensive experience of speaking on panels and has also chaired events, given keynote speeches and hosted awards ceremonies.

COVID-19 GUIDANCE FOR THE AWARDS

e would like to reassure everyone that we are very mindful of our duty of care to all attendees, participants and those working at the Awards. We are following current government guidelines for delivering events very closely. Please read these points. This advice is also on the Exeter Property Awards website and has been supplied to attendees. Many thanks, Exeter Property Awards team All attendees will be asked to show proof of one of the following on arrival at the Awards:

• Double vaccination via COVID Pass (NHS app) or vaccination card • Negative test result taken in the last 24 hours (NHS app or text message confirmation) • If you are unable to provide either of these, you will be offered a lateral flow test and entry will be permitted on sight of a negative result.

The venue has been fully risk assessed and attendee numbers have been limited to allow for a safe capacity.

All attendees are encouraged to take a Lateral Flow Test within 24 hours of when you are due to arrive at the Awards, and register the result with HM Govt.

If you are experiencing Covid symptoms, or in the last two weeks have been in contact with anyone with Covid symptoms, please ensure you get a PCR test and if the result is positive follow the UK Govt’s stay at home guidance.

There will be multiple hand sanitising stations throughout the venue. Please remember to regularly clean your hands throughout.

Facemasks generally: these are not obligatory but please feel free to wear one if you are more comfortable, and please respect those who choose to wear one.

Facemasks specifically: we recommend that you wear a facemask in areas such as the reception and in the toilets.

All event spaces including tables will be open to attendees throughout the day from 12pm and we encourage guests to take seats as early as possible. To help facilitate that, please familiarise yourself with where your table is and also let your teams and guests know. The table plan will be on the emailed to attendees no later than 24 hours before the Awards.

Communal areas are being cleaned regularly during the day, including the toilets.

Bar and all food preparation adheres to government hospitality guidelines.

We recommend that drinks orders can be made from your seat to reduce crowding at the bar.

The microphones are wiped down after use each time, so are safe for use by Sponsors and Winners. As a general point – please be respectful and kind to all event attendees.

THE JUDGES NOTE: our Judges were recused from assessing any category where they had a direct personal interest in a Finalist.

Helen has over 15 years marketing and business management experience across a range of industries including aviation, manufacturing and most recently construction. Helen is also a member of the Women in Property Devon and Cornwall committee, the Exeter Construction Group committee and part of the steering group for the Leeds Business School ‘Adapting Office Spaces’ research project.

JAMES MCKECHNIE DIRECTOR, HYDROCK

James is a consulting engineer, leading Hydrock’s Exeter presence and its national transport planning team, strategically advising developers, planning consultancies, architects, authorities and end users to help them bring forward a wide variety of development schemes. He is well known for his overarching vision and meticulous technical analysis, drawing together engineering and wider design considerations as part of technical teams.

LOUISE GLANVILLE PARTNER, KNIGHT FRANK

Louise has worked in real estate for the 21 years and started her career in London where she gained experience in prime lettings as well as residential sales and residential developments. She moved back to Devon in 2014 and began working for a local agent before moving to Knight Frank. Louise is a partner and the office head of Knight Frank Exeter, covering Devon, Cornwall and part of Somerset.

MARK NEWBERY MANAGING DIRECTOR, SAPPHIRE SPACES

As a child Mark grabbed any opportunity to work on building sites with his father and after leaving school continued his education in building and architectural studies. His early career was spent selling property which progressed to building and renovation. Now he designs interior spaces, where he gets to be creative and work on a wide range of exciting renovation, restoration and newbuild projects.

MS TOSHIKO TERAZONO LECTURER IN ARCHITECTURE, UNIVERSITY OF PLYMOUTH

As well as being a lecturer, Toshika is the BA Architecture Year One Leader at the University of Plymouth and a consultant in architectural practice. She has worked on the design of educational buildings, museums, office spaces and buildings and public art installations. Her recent community-based education project (with the University of Plymouth) was shortlisted for the RIBA MacEwen Award in 2020.
