Creativity's the winner. Always...

There is nothing more wonderful, though for some, more terrifying, than a blank sheet of paper.

That’s where creativity starts. With nothing.

It is up to us to create: sketch, code, write, design, perform, photo, sing, market, build. And more. All of us challenged by that blankness. All of us wishing to express, to reflect the world as we see it. And all as creatives having singularity at our core. What is the point of same old same old; of simulacrum; of rinse and repeat.

No, it’s the minted creative newness which appeals.

We create. We test ourselves and ideas. To create is to say, I think this is interesting. And if it’s commercial, I really hope you do too.

It’s deep in the soul of creators to have their creativity tested. To put their thinking forward and have others interpret as they will.

And that’s what we’re recognising and celebrating tonight. Tested creativity. Excellence in multiple areas. Inspiration.

Creativity can improve, enhance, extend, help you see the world differently. But at its best, it transforms.

All the decisions tonight have been made by a panel of independent judges chosen across many creative areas. Hard calls, nearly all.

Enjoy your evenings. When Bath’s creative tribes of come together and when clever thinkers, makers and doers unite, then enjoyment and value is created for us all.

Welcome to the Creative Bath Awards and Summer Party! The Awards are hosted by Greg Ingham, Creative Bath founder and chair and Hollie Markham of Glove Factory Studios.

HOLLIE MARKHAM is all about collaboration, community and creativity.

Hollie is a versatile professional with a diverse background from Spa & Leisure, Banking & Finance to Education & Charity and for the last six years she has immersed herself in the property sector, specifically the serviced office/studio industry. Hollie has cultivated an understanding of different business sectors and their ever-changing needs; she has utilised her transferable skills and truly found her passion in helping businesses to thrive & grow.

Currently based at Glove Factory studios in Holt, as The Commercial Operations Manager, Hollie is dedicated to providing workspace solutions and fostering connections among businesses, as well as all Operational aspects from Member Management to Finance and also futureproof & growth planning. She possesses a keen eye for identifying opportunities as well as forging mutually beneficial relationships, enabling her to make a tangible impact in the workspace and business community.

Having extensive exposure to multiple sectors has ignited a genuine interest in comprehending people and how their businesses operate and how they currently collaborate to achieve success, thus contributing to a deeper need to understand a business’s dynamics allowing her to facilitate successful business connections.

She has established a strong network over her professional career and always strives to create an encouraging & supportive environment when meeting new people. With her expertise and dedication, Hollie plays a vital role in nurturing a business and driving positive outcomes for all involved, she does so by emphasizing the power of community and how if you use it and use it well , or have just one random interaction and conversation, it could lead onto a million opportunities. BRYN WILLIAMS Managing Director at Bath Forum

Bryn is the owner and managing director of BWM Promotions Group, with over a decade of experience in the live music promotions and event management sector. He now heads up Bath Forum, the city’s biggest music venue, hosting everything from concerts and screenings to comedy and theatre. He has a background in senior management within both the commercial and social sector, as well as previous career history working in the criminal justice system.

CHARLOTTE GODFREY Employability Consultant at Bath Spa University

Charlotte has worked within the creative sector for over 20 years, working across radio, TV, digital content production and now within the arts and higher education. Charlotte is the enterprise lead with the careers and employability team at Bath Spa University, studio manager at Emerge which provides support for emerging professional creatives and co-owner of The Table Gallery in Corsham. "I'm a passionate advocate for emerging talent and for sharing the importance of placemaking and agency to enable creative individuals to thrive."

KATE HALL Executive Director at Bath Festivals

Kate is the executive director of Bath Festivals, a literature and music charity that hosts three annual festivals as well as a series of in-year events. Prior to working in Bath, she had a 15-year career in television stage management with credits including Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Top of the Pops and The Royal Variety Show.

NICK HEMS Personal Stylist at Nick Hems Style

Nick Hems is a men’s personal stylist and image coach whose aim is to help men create further opportunity in the lives by leveraging the science of style. He works with entrepreneurs and present and future business leaders, as well as private individuals whose mission is to create the best possible first impression on those they meet in person.

TOM VAUGHTON Founder and Managing Director at Varn

Tom Vaughton is founder and MD of specialist search and digital marketing agency Varn, based in Bradford on Avon. Varn’s clients range from ambitious SMEs and eCommerce companies in the South West, through to global publishing, medical and pharma companies. Passionate about sustainability and people, Tom is currently creating an innovative outdoor woodland office, developing a new exciting workspace for his team and clients.

AWARD

Tonight’s Award design was chosen via a competition for Bath Spa University students. The winner is BO NEVILLE – congrats!

"This is my third time submitting a design for the Creative Bath Awards, and for this attempt, I drew inspiration from an aerial view of The Circus. The Circus, an architectural landmark designed by John Wood, showcases the iconic Georgian style that Bath is renowned for. In designing the award, I wanted to pay homage to the distinctive shape of The Circus, so I created a sculptural disc as its form.

To reflect the essence of The Circus, each award features a Sycamore base, mirroring the Sycamore trees at the centre of the actual landmark. For the category awards, I incorporated a series of MDF slats, with a single acrylic slat coloured in the 'Creative Bath blue.' The placement of this blue slat varies for each award, making every award unique. As for the ACE award, it is composed entirely of blue slats, symbolising the overall winner."
