W

elcome to the 2021 Cardiff Life Awards! What a special ceremony this one is: our first in-person Awards since 2019.

It’s actually my first ever experience of the real-life version (I’ve heard it gets a bit wild…). Last year’s virtual ceremony was of course incredible, too. It was brought to 3,500 guests – plus untold more on Facebook – live on Zoom in their own homes, and was a night like never before.

It unfolded in true uberglam style and was a joyous and moving celebration of Cardiff, which, for the first time, saw family, friends and colleagues all able to watch the action and triumphs live, in shared wonderment.

One of the most memorable ‘viral’ moments of the night was when Beth Morris Workshops won an award, much to her children’s beaming, screaming delight; if you haven’t seen the clip yet, you must! Just google “Beth Morris Workshops Twitter”, hit play – and play loud! Over 10,000 views and counting.

On to this year, and we couldn’t be happier or prouder to welcome everyone back to City Hall for what we know will be yet another epic evening, with plenty of memories waiting to be made. As ever, all the Awards have been judged independently by a fantastic impartial panel. I don’t have a single clue who the winners will be – our events team clearly don’t trust me to keep a secret (they’re probably right) – but what I am sure of is that Cardiff has the most exceptional array of talent, creativity and strength, and I am so proud not only to be among you all tonight, but to be part of this sparkling, diverse, inspiring city.

He won the Bafta Cymru award for Best Presenter for the film Anorac, and recently presented The Story of Welsh Art on BBC Four. He has presented Glastonbury for BBC 2, and is a regular at Reading Festival, Latitude and Green Man. Huw co-founded the Welsh Music Prize and Cardiff’s Swn Festival, and lives in Cardiff with his family.

If you are experiencing Covid symptoms, or in the last two weeks have been in contact with anyone with Covid symptoms, please ensure you get a PCR test and if the result is positive follow the Welsh Government’s stay at home guidance.

There will be multiple hand sanitising stations throughout the venue. Please remember to regularly clean your hands throughout.

Facemasks generally: these are not obligatory but please feel free to wear one if you are more comfortable, and please respect those who choose to wear one.

Facemasks specifically: we recommend that you wear a facemask in areas such as the Reception and in the bathrooms.

All attendees will be asked to show proof of one of the following on arrival at the Awards: • Double vaccination via Covid Pass (NHS site) or

vaccination card.

• Negative test result taken in the last 24 hours (NHS site or text message confirmation).

• If you are unable to provide either of these, you will be required to take a lateral flow test and entry will be permitted on sight of a negative result.

The venue has been fully risk assessed and attendee numbers have been limited to allow for a safe capacity.

All attendees are encouraged to take a Lateral Flow Test within 24 hours of when you are due to arrive at the Awards, and register the result with the NHS.

All event spaces including tables will be open to attendees throughout the evening from 6.30pm and we encourage guests to take seats as early as possible. To help facilitate that, please familiarise yourself with where your table is and also let your teams and guests know. The Table Plan will be emailed to attendees no later than 24 hours before the Awards.

Communal areas are being cleaned regularly during the evening, including the toilets.

Bar and food preparation adheres to hospitality government guidelines.

We recommend that drinks orders can be made from your seat to reduce crowding at the bar.
