Danielle Jeffcoat, CFP

EDWARD JONES

At Edward Jones, Danielle Jeffcoat leads a women-driven, client-focused financial planning practice dedicated to helping individuals and families gain clarity, confidence, and control over their financial futures. Her approach centers on personalized guidance, empowering clients to align their finances with their goals and values—building wealth with intention, not just accumulation.

Danielle’s path into financial planning was fueled by a desire to help people, especially women, feel confident in their financial independence. “I’ve seen how transformative it can be when someone realizes they have the power to create financial freedom,” she shares. “That’s when I knew this was the work I was meant to do.” What distinguishes Danielle is her relationship-first philosophy. She views financial planning as a long-term partnership built on trust, empathy, and consistency. “My clients often tell me that what sets me apart is how deeply I care about their success,” she says. From celebrating dream vacations to helping clients purchase second homes, Danielle takes pride in being part of each milestone made possible through intentional planning.

She credits much of her success to the dedicated team she leads at her Edward Jones office. Together, they foster a welcoming, professional environment where clients feel heard, valued, and supported. “My team plays such an important role in our clients’ experience,” she shares. “They are the heartbeat of our workspace—managing details, anticipating needs, and ensuring that every interaction reflects the care and attention our clients deserve.”

Entering the industry as a young woman came with challenges, but Danielle’s confidence, integrity, and purpose have shaped her success. Outside of work, she enjoys travel, family time, and boating on the May River. Her personal motto—“Stay hungry, stay humble”—reflects her commitment to growth, learning, and staying grounded in what matters most.

When they’re not helping clients navigate life’s biggest financial moments, Danielle and her team are deeply rooted in the Lowcountry —supporting community organizations all while balancing family life, community involvement, and a shared passion for helping others thrive.

Brantley King

BILLY WOOD APPLIANCE

For Brantley King, owner of Billy Wood Appliance, business has always been about more than just appliances. It is about people, community, and creating spaces where life happens. Since 1972, Billy Wood Appliance has been a trusted name in the Lowcountry, and under Brantley’s leadership, that legacy continues to thrive with a strong focus on service and relationships.

Inspired by her love for cooking, entertaining, and kitchen design, Brantley brings a personal touch to every client experience. From the moment customers walk into one of their showrooms to final installation, her team is committed to making the process seamless. “Our customer service and amazing team here at BWA” are what truly set them apart, she shares, emphasizing the importance of guiding each customer through selections that fit both their vision and their budget.

Like many local businesses, BWA has faced the growing challenge of competing with online retailers. But for Brantley, the answer has always been simple. Lean into what online cannot offer, which is expertise, attention to detail, and genuine care. It is a philosophy that continues to earn the trust of generations of customers.

Family also plays a meaningful role in her journey. After purchasing the business in 2015, Brantley found unwavering support from her sons, and now her son Will, has joined the BWA team, whose amazing talent and enthusiasm have brought new energy to the business.

As for the future, “I’ve always told my team, let’s just keep doing what we do best and the rest will fall into place.”

Deeply rooted in the community she grew up in, Brantley is passionate about giving back and supporting multiple local organizations every year.

Above all, she remains grateful. “Thank you for supporting our local family business. We appreciate each one of you.”

Bryan Barrs

EARTHWORKS LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION

Before Earthworks became a go-to name for turnkey landscaping in the Lowcountry, it began with a boy, a rake, and what he believed were “punishment chores.” Bryan Barrs laughs now at the memory. His father had no idea those Saturday yard assignments were sparking the passion that would eventually lead Bryan to launch his own landscape company.

What hooked him wasn’t just being outdoors—it was the satisfaction of shaping something beautiful with his own hands. “Landscaping is one of the few things in life you can truly control,” he says. “There’s something incredibly meaningful about that.”

That hands-on mindset still drives Earthworks today. The company is known for its turnkey approach—design, construction, installation, and ongoing care—but what Bryan values most is how personal each project becomes. “Homeowners deserve outdoor spaces that feel exciting and true to who they are,” he says. “We focus on creating places where families make memories.”

Some of Bryan’s most memorable work comes from clients who return again and again, elevating and reinventing their outdoor living spaces with bold ideas that challenge the team to think bigger. Those relationships, he says, are what keep the work inspiring.

Community connection is equally important. Earthworks regularly sponsors local events, and Bryan recently partnered with Family Promise of the Lowcountry, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families in crisis. The company also recently completed the landscaping for the new Heartwood Community School and looks forward to continuing work as the campus grows.

GET TO KNOW BRYAN

For Bryan and his team, “Landscaping Done Differently” is more than a motto—it’s how they operate every day. It means going above and beyond by bringing creativity, care, and a strong commitment to their clients, even when that means thinking beyond landscaping.

Despite a demanding schedule, Bryan always makes room for what fuels him—time with family and friends, travel, days on the water, and adventures with his dog, Abby.

In the years ahead, he hopes Earthworks becomes not just a leading landscape firm, but a deeply rooted part of the Lowcountry community. Because for Bryan, great landscaping isn’t just about the work—it’s about the people who live in the spaces he helps bring to life.

MEET THE FACES OF PHARMACY

Rob Vaughn, PharmD & Cole Holloway, PharmD

HILTON HEAD PHARMACY COMPOUNDING

At Hilton Head Pharmacy Compounding, care goes far beyond filling prescriptions. Serving both locals and visitors to Hilton Head Island and Bluffton, the pharmacy has built its reputation on personalized service, accessibility and a genuine commitment to helping people feel their best. At the center of it all is owner Rob Vaughn, whose hands-on approach and passion for patient care shape the experience from the moment you walk through the door.

From everyday prescriptions to specialized compounding and medical equipment, the team is focused on meeting patients wherever they are in life. “We’re here to help people live healthier, more independent lives,” Vaughn shares. “That starts with listening and understanding what each person truly needs.”

What sets the pharmacy apart is its full-service approach. Patients can access immunizations, prescription delivery and customized compounded medications, all in one place. Whether someone is a year-round resident or visiting the island, the goal remains the same: make care convenient, personal and supportive.

“Our job is not just to dispense medication,” Vaughn explains. “It’s to be a trusted resource and a partner in someone’s health journey.” That philosophy is reflected in the team’s willingness to answer questions, offer guidance and provide solutions tailored to each individual.

GET TO KNOW ROB

Rob is a South University graduate who brings years of clinical experience and a passion for patient care, with a vision centered on treating patients like family while blending innovation with compassion.

At the heart of their work, Vaughn and his team are committed to building lasting relationships with those they serve. That sense of care carries into every interaction, creating an environment where patients feel known and supported.

Some companies begin with spreadsheets. Southern Coastal Homes began with passion—and a determination to raise the standard. After years in the corporate world, Scott Middleton and his wife, Anne, realized that what they valued most— integrity, craftsmanship, and genuine care—was often missing in modern homebuilding. They grew up in families where doing things right wasn’t optional, and they believed clients deserved a builder who shared that mindset. So they stepped away from corporate life and into something more meaningful: creating homes built on trust, transparency, and true craftsmanship. Though Scott began his early career as a CPA, he has spent decades as a full-time builder, completing more than 300 homes throughout Bluffton, Okatie, and Hilton Head. His accounting background isn’t the headline—it’s the advantage. That financial expertise gives him a rare ability to manage budgets with clarity and accuracy, ensuring clients MEET THE FACES OF BUILDERS

Erin Gagne

REVIVE

WELLNESS

When you walk through the doors of Revive Wellness, there’s an immediate sense of calm—an atmosphere that whispers renewal rather than rush. At the center of this Bluffton sanctuary is Erin Gagne, a practitioner whose mission was born from her own story of struggle, discovery, and transformation. After years of feeling unheard and dismissed by traditional medicine, Erin turned inward, learning to read the signals of her own body and ultimately restoring her health through a holistic, hormone-focused approach. That personal journey became the heartbeat of Revive Wellness, where healing means far more than managing symptoms—it means coming home to yourself.

Revive Wellness stands apart for its balance of advanced hormone optimization and functional medicine with emotional and lifestyle support. Erin’s care philosophy is simple yet profound: listen deeply, treat the root cause, and educate every patient to understand and trust their body. Whether helping a woman navigate perimenopause or a man regain energy and confidence, her team meets each individual exactly where they are— with compassion, integrity, and science-backed guidance.

For Erin, the most meaningful moments are when transformation unfolds in real time. She recalls one patient—a father who came to Revive hoping to lower his blood pressure and lose weight. What began as a health plan became a journey of self-rediscovery. As his physical wellness improved, so did his confidence and peace of mind. “He wanted to be a better role model for his kids,” Erin shares, “and by healing himself, he did exactly that.” Those stories—those lives changed—are what remind her why she does this work.

GET TO KNOW ERIN

Beyond patient care, Revive Wellness has become a pillar of education and empowerment in Bluffton. Through workshops, community events, and open conversations about hormones and holistic health, Erin is helping residents take ownership of their wellbeing. “Health should feel personal, accessible, and hopeful,” she says.

Outside of Revive Wellness, Erin loves staying active and enjoying life to the fullest. She finds joy in golfing, working out, hiking, and exploring new places through travel. Family is central to her life —spending time with her nieces, her sister, brother-in-law, and parents, as well as her beloved dog, brings her immense happiness.

Outside the clinic, Erin finds her own renewal on the golf course, a new passion that connects her with her dad and challenges her to be fully present. It’s there— between swings and laughter—that she practices the same mindfulness she teaches.

Her motto captures it all: Heal deeply, live fully, and empower others along the way. At Revive Wellness, that isn’t just a saying—it’s a way of life.

Ben Shelton

SHELTON LAW FIRM

Founded with a commitment to providing personalized, resultsdriven legal representation, Shelton Law Firm has become a trusted advocate for individuals and businesses across South Carolina. At the center of the firm is founder Ben Shelton, whose diverse background and extensive courtroom experience shape the firm’s hands-on, client-focused approach.

Shelton began his legal career in 2008 as a prosecutor in South Carolina’s 14th Judicial Circuit, where he quickly gained meaningful trial experience handling serious and often violent cases. He later served as the lead prosecutor in Colleton County during a time of heightened criminal activity, building a reputation for diligence, preparation, and effectiveness in the courtroom. This early experience laid a strong foundation for his ability to navigate complex legal matters and advocate confidently on behalf of his clients.

In 2014, Shelton transitioned into private practice, expanding his focus to civil litigation. His work now includes personal injury, insurance disputes, property damage claims, and business litigation. This breadth of experience allows him to approach each case with a well-rounded legal perspective, understanding both the technical and human elements involved. Over the years, he has successfully helped clients recover millions of dollars in damages while guiding them through often challenging and unfamiliar legal processes.

Shelton’s path to law is uniquely shaped by his early experiences. Raised in a small North Carolina town by two educators, he developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for community. Before pursuing a legal career, he earned a degree in music and spent time performing and teaching. That background continues to influence his ability to communicate clearly, think creatively, and connect with clients from all walks of life.

GET TO KNOW BEN SHELTON

Before becoming an attorney, Ben earned a degree in music and spent time performing and teaching professionally before later attending law school.

Today, Shelton Law Firm operates as a boutique practice, intentionally selective in its caseload to ensure each client receives focused attention and thoughtful representation. The firm is built on the belief that effective legal counsel requires not only skill and experience, but also accessibility, trust, and a genuine passion to see each client reach a positive and meaningful result.

MEET THE FACE OF LIGHTING

Brooke Miller

CREGGER SHOWROOMS

Brooke Miller has built a career rooted in creativity, connection, and the transformative power of light. As a leader at Cregger Lighting, she brings more than two decades of experience to a full-scale showroom offering everything from decorative fixtures to landscape lighting, all tailored to elevate both residential and commercial spaces. Miller’s journey into the industry wasn’t traditional. After initially being turned down for a lighting sales role in Charleston due to lack of experience, she took a humble entry point with that company cleaning fixtures part-time, determined to learn the business from the ground up. “That persistence paid off,” Brooke said, “and 10 years later, here I was helping pioneer and manage Cregger Company’s very first lighting showroom.” “I just love the idea of being able to enhance people’s lives through lighting,” she shares, a passion that still fuels her work today.

What sets Cregger Lighting apart is its consultative approach. Rather than simply selling products, Miller and her team provide one-on-one guidance to create thoughtful, customized lighting plans. “Lighting is so important and can make or break the interior design of a home or business,” she explains. Despite the challenges posed by online competition, Miller emphasizes that knowledge and customer service remain their greatest strengths. Her goal is simple yet impactful: “I hope people feel that I have their best interest when working with me.”

Looking ahead, Brooke remains inspired by the ever-evolving nature of the lighting industry, with new innovations and projects continually on the horizon, proving that her work, much like light itself, is always moving forward. The possibilities are endless!

GET TO KNOW BROOKE

Outside of her work, Brooke is always immersed in something creative and loves traveling for live music, exploring local restaurants and farmers markets, and spending time with family and friends.

GET TO KNOW CARLA

When Carla is not helping clients design beautiful spaces, she loves spending her time boating, traveling, and watching football.

Carla Rohal CREGGER SHOWROOMS

At Cregger Showrooms, Carla brings a passion for design and functionality to the world of decorative plumbing, helping clients elevate their homes with thoughtful, high-end selections. As part of a family-owned company that has grown from a single location in 1978 to more than 50 across eight states, Carla plays a key role in delivering a personalized, service-driven experience that sets Cregger apart.

Drawn to the industry by her love for home design, Carla describes decorative plumbing as “jewelry for the home,” where beauty meets everyday function. Her approach blends technical knowledge with an eye for aesthetics, allowing her to guide clients with confidence through what can often feel like an overwhelming process. “My customer. 100%,” she says when asked what she loves most about her work—an answer that reflects her deep commitment to relationships.

Like many in the industry, Carla has faced the growing challenge of online competition. “The internet has been the greatest challenge,” she explains, noting that while professionals understand the value of service and expertise, not all homeowners immediately do. That’s where Cregger stands out—offering real guidance, accountability, and a hands-on experience that online retailers simply can’t match.

Leaving a stable company to join a “zero market share” underdog was a bold risk—but after six years in the business, that’s what Carla did. “Joining the Cregger Company family was the best decision I’ve made. It gave me the tools and support to deliver an exceptional experience for my customers—and ultimately, to help lead in the market.” Carla stated.

At the end of the day, her goal is simple: “The only thing I really want…is for the customer to want to do business with me and the Cregger Team again. That is the highest compliment we can receive.”

GET TO KNOW DOUG WEAVER

Ranked among Golf Digest’s Best PGA Teachers in South Carolina and a former PGA Tour player, Doug combines elite instruction with proven playing excellence and a lifelong passion for the game. A Lowcountry resident since 1977, he was inducted into the Lowcountry Golf Hall of Fame.

Doug Weaver

If you spend even five minutes with Doug Weaver, you’ll understand why his students call him more than a golf pro—he’s a guide, a mentor, and sometimes even a philosopher of the fairways. As the Director of Instruction at Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head Island, Doug has made it his mission to help golfers of all levels rediscover what the game is really about: joy.

“Golf is a game of opposites,” Doug often says with a knowing smile. “The harder you try, the worse you do. When you swing slow, the ball goes fast.” It’s a lesson that applies as much to life as it does to golf—something Doug knows firsthand.

Earning his PGA Tour Card and playing in two U.S. Opens and being one of the “Four Aces” at the 1989 U.S. Open were career highlights, but Doug’s real success has comes from the countless people he’s helped find confidence and calm through the game. He remembers one Special Olympics student who barely made eye contact when they first met. By the end of their journey together, Doug was caddying for him at the national championship. “That kind of transformation,” he says, “is what golf—and life—is all about.”

It hasn’t always been an easy road. Doug once struggled with self-doubt, unsure if he had the confidence to play professionally. But through his faith and maturity, he found a new sense of peace and purpose. “As I matured as a Christian, I saw God working in my life, renewing my mind and bringing the right people and resources together.” That perspective fuels his approach to teaching today—meeting every student with patience, encouragement, and the belief that they already have what they need to succeed.

Beyond the greens, Doug has given back generously to the community—coaching at local schools, volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club, First Tee, and Military Golf Day. He’s been a resident of Hilton Head Island since 1977, a devoted husband of 38 years, and a proud dad and “Papa” who loves playing golf with his son and spending time outdoors with family.

Whether you’re a beginner holding a club for the first time or a seasoned player chasing precision, Doug Weaver offers more than instruction—he offers inspiration. Learn more at palmettodunes.com/golf/golf-instruction or email DougWeaverGolf@gmail.com.

WELCOME FROM THE FACES TEAM!

Welcome to the inaugural edition of FACES of the Lowcountry

It is with great excitement that we introduce this new publication to our vibrant Hilton Head Island and Bluffton community. For years, we have been passionate about being a part of what makes the Lowcountry such a special place to live, work, and thrive—and FACES of the Lowcountry is a natural extension of that mission.

This magazine was created with a simple but meaningful purpose: to connect our community with the locally owned businesses and charities that shape our daily lives. Each feature highlights a “Face” of a specific business category or charity, offering readers a closer look at the people behind the services, storefronts, and experiences we value. These are the individuals who pour their energy, creativity, and commitment into serving our community every day.

Over the past 40+ years, we have had the privilege of bringing people together through our publications, including Lowcountry Living; & Real Estate, LowCountry Home, the Hilton Head 360 Map, and the Bluffton 360 Map, along with our websites LowCountryHome.com and HiltonHead360.com. With the launch of LowcountryFACES.com, we look forward to sharing even more stories and deepening those connections in new and meaningful ways.

Rather than being a “Best of” publication, this is an authentic showcase—an opportunity to introduce you to the people behind a wide range of local businesses, some of which you may be discovering for the very first time.

Our hope is that FACES of the Lowcountry fosters a stronger sense of community and inspires all of us to continue supporting the businesses that help define the character of Hilton Head Island and Bluffton. MEET

Michelle Bichy

INDIGO DESIGN

For Michelle Bichy, interior design has never been a career she stumbled into—it’s the one she’s always known she was meant for. The founder of Indigo Design, Michelle brings a quiet clarity and hands-on approach to every project she touches, whether it’s a new build, a renovation, or a full home reimagination.

Her passion began early. As a grade-schooler, she shadowed interior designers and was instantly captivated by the creative process. Today, that childhood spark has evolved into a design philosophy centered on authenticity. “I want every detail to feel true to how my clients live,” she says. “Not just stylish, but meaningful.”

Michelle’s work is defined by its calm refinement and by the relationships she builds along the way. She guides clients through every step—backed by trusted craftsmen, access to unique materials, and her signature thoughtful editing. The process feels personal, never overwhelming. Clients feel heard, understood, and supported.

She has countless standout projects—adapting a dream home for twins with special needs, and transforming a 1970s condo into a fresh open-concept haven, among them. “No project is the same,” she says. “Every home tells its own story.”

Even through challenges, including the supply-chain chaos of COVID, Michelle stayed adaptive, finding creative solutions to keep projects moving forward. Beyond her work, she enjoys cheering on her children in their sports, traveling, and immersing herself in new cultures—experiences that continue to influence her design perspective.

Looking ahead, Michelle hopes to keep doing what she loves: creating beautiful, refined spaces and deepening the relationships that make each project special.

a Family Legacy in Every TIDE

At Benny Hudson Seafood, every oyster shucked and every shrimp unloaded tells a story—not just of Hilton Head Island’s waters, but of the family that has spent generations harvesting them. Today, three women—matriarch Barbara Hudson, her daughter Tonya, and granddaughter Hannah—carry forward a tradition that began nearly two centuries ago.

PHOTOGRAPHY BY
Anneliza “Pippi” Itkor
“This is our

legacy.”

“My name is Barbara Hudson,” says the woman who has seen it all, from the days when seafood was hauled in by hand from wooden docks to the present-day bustle of a 10,000-square-foot market.

“Benny Hudson Seafood is our legacy and the pride of our existence. I’m somewhat retired now. Tonya runs the show, and one day we hope to see Hannah take the reins.”

The Hudson story goes back to James Ransom Hudson, Barbara’s husband’s great-grandfather, who came to Hilton Head from England by way of Charleston and Orangeburg in the 1800s. Farming the land gave way to farming the sea, and the Hudsons built not just a seafood business but a community hub. “His wife Bell was a midwife and a baker,” Barbara recalls. “She delivered babies, baked apple pies, and ran their general store while he ran oysters and fish. They worked hard, but they always gave back.”

Following in Their Footsteps

For generations, each Hudson son grew into the roles of fisherman, magistrate, and store owner. By the 1950s, Barbara’s late husband, Benny, had learned the trade from his father and grandfather before leaving to serve in the Navy. When he returned, Hilton Head was transforming with the opening of its first bridge. Benny built the island’s first seafood restaurant, Hudson’s on the Docks, which quickly became a household name.

From left to right; Hannah, Barbara Hudson, & Tonya Hudson.

In 1973, Barbara and Benny married. “We worked hard, played hard, and lived life to the fullest,” Barbara says. “At one point we had 24 shrimp trawlers coming in every week. We shipped crab to Maryland and oysters by the gallon. Life was good.”

When Benny’s health faltered, the couple made the difficult decision to sell Hudson’s. Today, locals and visitors alike still enjoy the restaurant, now owned and lovingly run by the Carmines family. “They’ve done a fine job,” Barbara notes. “Hudson’s is known worldwide.”

A New Beginning on the Dock

After selling the restaurant, the Hudsons retired briefly to Key West, taking their trawler, children, and dogs along. “Those years gave him rest and recovery,” Barbara remembers. But Hilton Head was in their blood. Five years later, Benny looked at her and said, “It’s time to go home.”

Back on the island, Benny was far from finished. He opened a new seafood dock, packing house, and market on Squire Pope Road. Boats lined up to unload, and the Hudson name once again became synonymous with the freshest seafood on Hilton Head.

When Benny passed away unexpectedly in 1997, Barbara and Tonya faced a crossroads. Tonya had studied business in college and was working in the furniture store Barbara had opened years earlier, doing interior design. But after Benny’s death, mother and daughter closed the store and turned their full energy to the seafood business. “We regrouped,” Barbara says simply. “We were up before dawn providing fuel and ice, unloading boats late into the night, catching a few winks, and starting again.”

“I’ve earned my place here.”

Tonya, who now leads Benny Hudson Seafood, admits her path wasn’t straightforward. “I studied business, but after Dad passed, I came back home. I started unloading boats, working the dock, and handling everything side by side with Mom.”

Being a woman in a male-dominated industry came with challenges. “I entered on the respect the captains had for my parents,” Tonya explains. “And I’ve earned theirs through hard work and mutual respect. Heat, cold, rain, day, night—it didn’t matter. We all worked together. I wouldn’t trade those memories.”

Tonya’s love for her work shows in the way she talks about her customers. “I always say I wouldn’t have you put anything on your plate that I wouldn’t put on my own. I love interacting with people, talking about seafood, even sharing recipes. That’s what makes this special—it feels like family.”

Building for the Future

Under Tonya’s leadership, Benny Hudson Seafood has not only survived but thrived. She’s expanded community outreach, speaking at events about sustainability and the importance of buying local seafood. She’s also planning the return of “Tasteful Tuesdays,” a monthly tasting event that once brought neighbors together.

The market itself is a testament to persistence. “We were in our old market for 30 years before moving into the new building,” Tonya explains. “Customers lined up outside, rain or shine. It was time to grow—and we did.”

And now, the family looks toward the next generation. Hannah DeSalve, Tonya’s daughter, has finished college and is pursuing a business degree with an eye toward one day stepping in. “I can already picture her greeting customers with that great smile,” Barbara says proudly. “She’ll say, ‘Glad you’re here, come on in—we’ve been waiting for you.’”

More Than a Market

From a general store where pies were bartered for beans, to Hilton Head’s first seafood restaurant, to today’s bustling market, the Hudson story has always been about more than commerce. It’s about relationships —between family, community, and the sea itself.

As Tonya puts it: “This business is part of who we are. It’s in our blood, and it’s our gift to the island. When people come here, we want them to feel like family. That’s what my father taught me: work hard, be honest, and take care of people. That’s how legacies last.”

Randy Brown & Ryan DuBois

ATHENA SURFACES

When Randy took the helm at Athena Surfaces, LLC, alongside partner Ryan DuBois, he stepped into a story more than three decades in the making. Long known across the Lowcountry for exceptional craftsmanship in quartz, granite, and cultured marble, Athena has shaped countless kitchens, baths, and outdoor spaces. Under new ownership, that legacy is growing with a renewed focus on people, process, and product.

After a 30-year career in operations leadership, Randy felt drawn to the tangible, human side of construction — where creativity, precision, and community intersect. “Acquiring Athena presented an opportunity to lead an operating company in the construction industry,” he says. “It was a chance to make life better for our employees, our customers, and our partners.” That idea — Make Life Better — is more than a motto. It guides every installation, every relationship, and every improvement the team undertakes.

Athena remains one of the region’s few cultured marble manufacturers, connecting it to the history of many communities. At the same time, the company’s future is shaped by the complementary strengths of its partners. Ryan DuBois brings more than 13 years of experience building quartz manufacturing facilities across the United States, providing deep technical insight into modern fabrication, efficiency, and scalable production. Together, Randy and Ryan blend operational leadership with hands-on manufacturing expertise. Their Hardeeville facility reflects that balance, combining tradition and technology through CNC saws, laser templating, and a dedicated training center that reinforces continuous learning.

The partnership itself began with months of conversation about building something meaningful, ultimately sparked by a call from a business broker who introduced them to Athena. Navigating the startup process came with challenges — permitting, payroll, taxes, and more — but teamwork and shared problem-solving made the difference. Randy and Ryan also credit the foundation laid by former owner Greg Sprecher and the dedicated Athena team. “We wouldn’t be where we are today without Greg and the people who carried Athena forward,” Randy says.

Today, Athena is engaged in hotel renovations, commercial projects, and luxury homes, while giving back through local partnerships and initiatives like Athena Reserve, a custom coffee supporting trade education and scholarships. Looking ahead, the partners envision Athena Surfaces as a regional leader and a Great Place to Work. “No one wins unless we all win,” Randy says. “And that’s how you build something that lasts.”

Caroline Molloy

FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES

For Caroline Molloy, sports have always been about more than competition—they’re a powerful platform for connection, mentorship, and faith.

As part of the team with South Coastal Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Caroline spends her days building relationships with coaches and student-athletes across the Lowcountry. FCA’s mission is to see every coach and athlete come into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church, and Caroline lives that out through campus visits, student gatherings known as “huddles,” and one-on-one discipleship with young athletes navigating the pressures of school, sports, and life.

Her passion for investing in the next generation is deeply personal. Caroline spent much of her twenties battling stage four chronic neurological Lyme disease, enduring 27 surgeries and five years of daily treatment before eventually entering remission. “It was one of the most challenging things I’ve ever had to walk through,” she shares. “Only by the power of God could I have gotten through it.”

That journey not only strengthened her faith but also shaped the compassion and perseverance she now brings to mentoring others. One student she has discipled for several years lost both of her parents at a young age. Watching that young woman remain strong in her faith despite unimaginable hardship has been both inspiring and deeply meaningful to Caroline.

What makes FCA unique is its ability to reach students through something they already love: sports. For Caroline, that connection opens the door to meaningful conversations about identity, perseverance, and faith that extend far beyond the game.

Those who know her describe Caroline as relational, encouraging, and deeply committed to investing in the next generation. By pouring into the lives of young athletes and partnering with coaches across the region, she is helping shape leaders who carry their faith with them both on and off the field.

Through her work with South Coastal FCA, Caroline is helping ensure that the influence of sports becomes an opportunity to point others toward something even greater.

MEET THE FACE OF WINDOWS & DOORS

Richard Barron

HHI WINDOWS & DOORS

Richard Barron is the owner of HHI Windows & Doors, a locally owned window and door replacement company serving Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, Beaufort, and nearby Lowcountry communities. In 2024, Richard acquired an established window and door company and rebranded it as HHI Windows & Doors. Building on the company’s existing reputation, he has focused on strengthening customer relationships, elevating product offerings, and delivering quality craftsmanship.

Barron has had a long connection to the Lowcountry. He first visited Hilton Head Island in 1982, and the area left a lasting impression on him. Over time, that connection grew into both a personal and professional commitment to the community.

Before entering the home improvement industry, Barron spent more than thirty years in Division I college athletics. He worked as a basketball coach at several universities, including Princeton, Baylor, NC State, and the University of Maine. His experience leading teams and building strong relationships helped shape the leadership style he brings to his company.

Today, HHI Windows & Doors focuses on replacement windows and doors designed to perform well in coastal climates. The company works with homeowners to select products that improve energy efficiency, durability, and the overall appearance of their homes. Professional installation and customer service remain central to the company’s approach.

GET TO KNOW RICHARD

For Richard, running HHI Windows & Doors is also about being part of the community. Outside of work, he enjoys fishing in local waters, playing guitar, and staying involved in church and community activities throughout the Hilton Head area.

GET TO KNOW MIKE AND JESSICA CAMP

Originally from Dalton, Georgia, Mike and Jessica relocated to the Lowcountry in 2008 and acquired Hilton Head Floorcoverings in 2018. Their showroom now features a curated, in-stock selection of flooring styles, including luxury vinyl plank.

“We’d like to Floor You”

Mike and Jessica Camp

HILTON HEAD FLOORCOVERINGS

For nearly two decades, Mike Camp has been laying down more than just floors—he’s been building trust, craftsmanship, and community through his company, Hilton Head Floorcoverings (hilton-head-floorcovering.com). Born and raised in Dalton, Georgia—the flooring capital of the world—Mike found his calling early in life. “It was all there was to do in my hometown,” he laughs, but what started as a job in his twenties quickly grew into a lifelong passion and a company built on three simple principles: quality products, fair pricing, and experienced hands.

At Hilton Head Floorcoverings, those principles aren’t just talking points—they’re visible in every plank, tile, and carpet installed. “Quality matters,” Mike says firmly. “You must have products that will last, and the right people to install them.” Many of his crews have been with him for years, even decades, creating a rare kind of consistency in an industry known for turnover. That long-term loyalty extends to his customers too; after nearly twenty years on Hilton Head Island, Mike has built a solid client base almost entirely through repeat business and word of mouth.

Running a small business hasn’t been without its trials. Mike’s success has come through what he calls “a lot of blood, sweat, and tears”—and the balancing act of working six or seven days a week while raising two daughters with his wife, who he credits as his biggest supporter. Together, they’ve weathered the challenges of entrepreneurship, always grounded by the belief that pride and integrity matter just as much as the finished floor.

What Mike loves most, he says, is the transformation. Flooring installations can turn a home upside down for a few days, but seeing the joy on a customer’s face when they step onto their new floors makes it all worthwhile. Beyond the work, Hilton Head Floorcoverings represents the best of small business—personal service, lower prices than the big-box stores, and an unwavering commitment to satisfaction.

Today, with his son-in-law already stepping into leadership and a new grandchild bringing joy to the family, Mike sees the future as both exciting and steady. “I’ll always be a part of HHFC,” he says, “but one day, it’ll be my son-in-law’s to run.” It’s a legacy of craftsmanship, family, and pride—built to last, just like his floors.

MEET THE FACE OF HEATING & AIR, ELECTRICAL & POOL SERVICES

Kevin Thompson

SUMMIT SERVICES

Summit Services was founded on a simple but powerful idea: to be a different kind of home services company—one that operates at the highest level without ever compromising on customer care. For owner and founder Kevin Thompson, that vision has been the driving force from day one. “It’s easy to say you put customers first,” he shares, “but we challenge ourselves every day to actually live that out and treat people the way we would want to be treated.”

Kevin’s journey began in the Lowcountry where he grew up, later attending the University of Georgia before starting his career in the homebuilding industry. In 2007, he transitioned into the HVAC field, where he spent years learning the business. Over time, he began to notice a pattern, missed appointments, inconsistent service, and a lack of attention to the

homes people had worked so hard for. “I wanted more for homeowners,” Kevin explains. “I was tired of the excuses and knew there had to be a better way to serve people.”

With that conviction, he set out to build Summit Services from the ground up. Starting with no customers, no employees, and no roadmap, Kevin relied on hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to doing things differently. “I’ll be the first to admit I made some costly mistakes early on,” he says, “but I knew if we stayed committed to our values, we could build something special.”

Now, six years in, Summit Services has grown into a trusted name in the community, known for its reliability, high standards, and strong company culture. The team is built

While heating and air remains the foundation of the business, Summit has expanded to include a dedicated electrical division and a pool services division. From electrical services of all types, to weekly pool cleanings and repairs and even full pool remodels. The company offers comprehensive service with specialized teams for electrical and pool/spa needs. “Our goal for these divisions is the same as everything else we do” Kevin says. “We want homeowners to feel confident that their space is being cared for with excellence, consistency, and attention to detail.”

“At the end of the day, it’s about delivering the right solution the first time and making sure every customer is 100% satisfied,” Kevin says. “That’s what sets us apart.”

THE LEGACY OF

Andrew Farbman Lives On at Amigos Cantina

Amigos Cantina is more than a restaurant—it’s a place where community, flavor, and genuine connection come together. Built on fresh, made-in-house food, a welcoming atmosphere, and heartfelt hospitality, it continues to reflect the spirit of its founder, Andrew Farbman.

The inspiration behind Amigos began years ago when Andrew spent time in Santa Barbara, California, where he discovered not only a love for food but a passion for creating an experience. He brought that vision back to the Lowcountry, opening the first Amigos on Hilton Head Island over 30 years ago, and later expanding to Bluffton.

What makes Amigos truly unique isn’t just the food—it’s the feeling. Everything is prepared fresh, but more importantly, every person who walks through the door is treated like they matter. Because to Andrew, they did.

A PERSONAL STORY THAT SHAPED IT ALL

Andrew wasn’t just a business owner—he was the heart of Amigos. Known for his “bubbly” personality and genuine kindness, he had a way of making everyone feel seen. As many have said, he never met a stranger.

One of the most meaningful moments in his life happened during the RBC Heritage on Hilton Head, where he met his wife, Gina. From that day forward, they built not only a life together, but a shared dream—working side by side to grow Amigos into what it is today.

Andrew was a mentor, a friend, and “one of the good guys.” Whether he was giving advice to fellow business owners during tough times like the 2008 recession or simply connecting with customers, his passion was undeniable. You could hear it in the way he talked about food—you could taste it in every dish.

On April 17, 2021, the community lost Andrew in a tragic accident. It was a loss deeply felt across Hilton Head, Bluffton, and beyond.

But even in that heartbreak, something powerful remained —his legacy.

Today, that legacy is carried forward by his wife, Gina Faucette Farbman, and their daughter, Alexis. With strength, love, and determination, they continue to run Amigos Cantina, honoring everything Andrew built.

Andrew believed in something simple but powerful:

“KINDNESS MATTERS. PEOPLE MATTER.”

That belief still guides Amigos today. The restaurant continues to support local foundations, sports, and community efforts—just as Andrew always did. It remains a gathering place where people come not just to eat, but to feel at home.

Outside the restaurant, Andrew loved the simple joys of life— golfing, fishing, spending time with friends, and listening to music, especially Jerry Garcia. Those moments reflect the kind of

person he was: easygoing, genuine, and full of life. The future of Amigos Cantina is rooted in its past. Gina and Alexis are committed to continuing what Andrew started— keeping the food fresh, the atmosphere welcoming, and the values strong. This isn’t just about running a restaurant. It’s about carrying forward a legacy of love, kindness, and community.

Amigo’s Bluffton just celebrated its 25 years in business.

Our “Amigo’s Team” lead by Lisa Lovette, Gina & our amazing ladies Sara & Rosa behind the scenes making everything fresh daily . If we only knew how many of “Andrew’s famous barbecue chicken salads that these  ladies have made. Sara has been with us since we opened in 2001.

A LASTING MESSAGE

If there’s one thing Andrew left behind, it’s this: BE

KIND. VALUE PEOPLE. BUILD SOMETHING THAT BRINGS OTHERS TOGETHER.

And that’s exactly what Amigos Cantina continues to do every single day. Andrew Farbman may be gone, but his presence is still felt—in the kitchen, in the laughter of guests, in the friendships built over meals, and in the family who continues his dream. Amigos Cantina isn’t just a place to eat.

It’s a place to remember, to connect, and to celebrate a man who truly made a difference.

Ned McNair

CO-FOUNDER OF REAL CHAMPIONS

For Ned McNair, addressing poverty in the Lowcountry became more than an observation, it became a calling.

After moving to the South Carolina Lowcountry decades ago, Ned was struck by the contrast he saw every day: areas of great beauty and prosperity existing side by side with deep generational poverty. That reality stayed with him, shaping his perspective and prompting a lifelong question of how could meaningful change happen for children growing up in those circumstances?

That question eventually led to the founding of Real Champions Inc. Alongside Dr. Carl Martin, Ned helped create the organization with a shared vision: to break the cycle of generational poverty by investing directly in the lives of vulnerable children.

Real Champions takes a unique approach to mentorship. Rather than short-term programs, the organization pairs professionally trained, full-time Advocate mentors with children beginning in early elementary school and walking with them all the way through high school graduation. These mentors invest deeply in each child’s development, academically, emotionally, and socially, helping them build the skills and confidence they need to succeed.

As a member of the board, Ned continues to champion this mission and the long-term impact it can have on families and communities throughout the region. His heart for service and commitment to meaningful solutions helped lay the foundation for a program designed not just to help children survive difficult circumstances, but to give them the support needed to truly thrive.

Through Real Champions, Ned and the team are working toward a future where every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to grow, succeed, and become a champion in their own story.

MEET THE FACE OF ABSENT HOME OWNER SERVICE

Sheri Moore

HOME MANAGEMENT OF THE LOWCOUNTRY

With more than 20 years of experience in the Greater Lowcountry, Sheri Moore, founder of DIBS Elite, has built her reputation on trust, stewardship, and heartfelt service. DIBS Elite is a luxury private home management and concierge company designed to give homeowners true peace of mind. After seeing too many clients close on beautiful homes and then feel unsure about who to call or whether their property was being properly cared for, Sheri felt called to step in and bridge that gap.

“Serving others is my gift, and I am very grateful I can,” she shares. That calling is reflected in every aspect of her business. DIBS Elite offers custom 24/7 client portals that provide real-time notifications, photo updates during property audits, and detailed project tracking. Beyond technology, Sheri takes time to learn each client’s personal needs and preferences, delivering highly tailored, white-glove care.

Trust is at the heart of everything she does. “I understand how natural it is for homeowners to feel apprehensive about allowing someone into their personal space,” Sheri explains. “Providing genuine peace of mind is the greatest reward.” She considers the simple words “thank you for being there” the true prize of her work.

A Bluffton resident for over 30 years, Sheri is deeply connected to the community, supporting local, family-owned businesses and nurturing strong partnerships built on shared hometown values. She lives by the advice her father once gave her: “Take care of your tools, and they’ll take care of you.” To Sheri, that applies not only to homes, but to relationships and responsibilities as well. Guided by Colossians 3:23, she approaches every detail with intention, integrity, and wholehearted care.

GET TO KNOW SHERI

Outside of work, Sheri loves gardening, photographing nature, and creating art. She is continually inspired to go beyond what’s expected, bringing that same thoughtful, elevated care into the way she manages homes and serves her clients.

Dr. Heidi Harrington

BEAUFORT MEMORIAL PLASTIC SURGERY & AESTHETICS

When patients walk into Beaufort Memorial Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics at the Okatie Medical Pavilion, they are often carrying more than a desire to change how they look. They may be healing from cancer, rebuilding confidence after childbirth or weight loss or simply hoping to feel more like themselves again.

Heidi Harrington, M.D., understands that, and it guides her every day.

Dr. Harrington has many of the qualities you’d hope to see in a plastic surgeon. Board-certified and fellowship-trained, she is creative and artistic, unapologetically detail oriented and deeply passionate about improving her patients’ lives and confidence through plastic surgery. Her approach is grounded not only in technical expertise, but in genuine human connection.

“I want my patients to feel like they’re sitting down with a friend who happens to be an expert in plastic surgery,” Dr. Harrington said. “That’s when the best work happens—when we listen, collaborate and create a plan together.”

While leading the plastic surgery practice, Dr. Harrington is also working in tandem with board certified and fellowship trained breast oncology surgeons to build a breast reconstruction program at Beaufort Memorial. The goal is to offer advanced, life changing reconstructive options to breast cancer patients close to home, without requiring them to travel far from their support systems.

A New Jersey native, Dr. Harrington grew up on a horse farm and originally envisioned a career as a veterinarian. Her fascination with biology and problem solving eventually led her to Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, where she graduated summa cum laude and discovered plastic surgery was the ideal blend of science, function and creativity for her.

She completed her residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery in Southern California, gaining broad experience in both reconstructive and cosmetic procedures before returning to the East Coast to practice in New England for over a decade, where she developed a reputation for meticulous technique, innovation and thoughtful patient care.

Outside the operating room, Dr. Harrington’s drive extends into her personal life. A lifelong athlete, she has participated in a wide range of sports over the years, from competitive equestrian and rugby to trail running and strength training. More recently, she has taken up competitive cornhole, traveling nationally to compete and enjoying the sport’s mix of strategy, precision and community.

Ultimately, what motivates Dr. Harrington most is connection. “Walking someone through a transformation and helping them feel confident again,” she said, “that’s what makes my heart happy.”

Drs. Vandit Sardana & Cory Messerschmidt

BEAUFORT MEMORIAL ORTHOPAEDIC SPECIALISTS

As the Lowcountry continues to grow, so does the demand for specialized healthcare, particularly in orthopedics. At Beaufort Memorial Orthopaedic Specialists, Drs. Cory Messerschmidt and Vandit Sardana are working together to meet that need head-on, helping shape a practice expanding alongside the communities it serves.

Though both board-certified, fellowship-trained physicians arrived in the Lowcountry from faraway hometowns, Dr. Sardana from just outside Toronto and Dr. Messerschmidt from Virginia, they share a defining trait: a lifelong drive to fix what’s broken. Whether tinkering with cars or building imaginative Lego creations, each discovered early a fascination with how things work and how to make them work better.

“I’m drawn to solving complex problems,” said Dr. Messerschmidt, who is also fellowship-trained in sports medicine. “Every patient presents a unique challenge. We piece together symptoms, imaging and clinical insight to determine the best path forward.”

Together, the surgeons bring renewed energy to the practice, combining broad surgical expertise with engaged, empathetic patient care and innovative robot-assisted technology and sports medicine services. That high-quality care makes a difference: Beaufort Memorial has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for joint replacement surgery since 2015, along with advanced disease-specific certification in hip and knee replacement, an honor held by only four centers in the state. The health system is also a designated Blue Distinction Center+ for hip and knee replacement, reflecting a commitment to skilled, costeffective care.

For the doctors, building a healthier Lowcountry extends beyond the clinic. As part of Beaufort Memorial’s vision as a community health system, they regularly host free educational talks on joint pain, preventive care, treatment options and maintaining active lifestyles.

“Medicine isn’t just about diagnosing and treating diseases, but understanding patients, connecting with them, and developing individualized plans,” said Dr. Sardana, who completed fellowship training in total joint reconstruction at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. “Serving this community and improving patients’ quality of life is incredibly rewarding.”

The surgeons see patients in Port Royal and Okatie alongside nurse practitioner Aron Love and physician assistant Kara White, sharing a commitment to hands-on problem solving and patient connection in an ever-evolving Lowcountry.

Charlene Gardner

FOUR CORNERS FRAMING AND ART GALLERY

Step inside Four Corners Gallery in Bluffton and you’ll instantly feel the creative energy of its owner, Charlene Gardner—the true “face of framing.”

With an artist’s intuition and a perfectionist’s precision, Charlene transforms framing into an art form of its own. After moving from Vail, Colorado, she launched Four Corners in 1998, growing it from a homebased studio into one of the Lowcountry’s most respected galleries. Her passion lies in connecting people with pieces that move them—“matching art and artist together,” as she puts it. Whether she’s designing the perfect frame or mentoring emerging talent, Charlene’s approach is rooted in honesty, creativity, and care. Beyond her gallery walls, she’s helped shape Bluffton’s vibrant arts scene, co-founding the Bluffton Arts District and the Spring Arts Festival. For Charlene, every frame tells a story—and every story deserves to be beautifully seen.

Jeff Keefer

VIVID GALLERY

Jeff Keefer is the heart behind VIVID Gallery, an inspiring art space located in the Shops at Sea Pines Center on Hilton Head Island. After a successful 34-year career as Executive Vice President and CFO of DuPont, Jeff’s life took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2007. Rather than slowing him down, the diagnosis awakened a heightened sense of creativity and a deep passion for photography.

Drawn to color, light, and the beauty of the world around him, Jeff began capturing vivid moments from Hilton Head Island, the Lowcountry, and his travels abroad. Photography became both an artistic outlet and a source of joy, allowing him to see the world through a new lens.

VIVID Gallery is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), and all proceeds from Jeff’s fine-art photography support Parkinson’s research through the Michael J. Fox Foundation, as well as select local charities. Through his art, Jeff turns creativity into hope, connection, and meaningful impact.

Nikki Petitt

SEAGLASS WINDOWSCAPES

The ability to transform a space into something that truly reflects the people who live in it is what Nikki loves most about her work.

“It’s not just about fabric, color, or design—it’s about creating a feeling,” she says. “When everything comes together and a client walks into their space and says, ‘This feels like home,’ that’s the moment that makes it all worthwhile.”

One of the most memorable milestones in her journey came when she realized that her work is as much about relationships as it is about design.

Early on, a client trusted her completely with their home during a major life transition. Seeing how the finished space brought comfort and a sense of renewal revealed the deeper impact of what she does. That experience continues to shape every project, guiding her to lead with care, empathy, and intention.

Like any creative path, there have been challenges. Balancing client expectations, timelines, and the unpredictable nature of materials and installations can be demanding. “There have been moments where things didn’t go as planned,” Nikki shares, “but those experiences taught me resilience and problem-solving.” She has learned to stay flexible, communicate clearly, and focus on solutions rather than setbacks.

While every project holds meaning, the ones that stand out most are those where a client’s story is woven into the design.

GET TO KNOW NIKKI

Nikki often draws inspiration from her clients’ personal stories and meaningful life moments, weaving those details into her designs so each space feels deeply personal and one-of-a-kind.

Whether creating a dream home years in the making or a space that becomes the backdrop for everyday family moments, Nikki finds it incredibly rewarding to know her work becomes part of people’s lives.

Guided by integrity, authenticity, and attention to detail, Nikki approaches each project with honesty and care. “I want my clients to feel heard, supported, and inspired,” she says. “At the end of the day, I want them to feel proud of their space and excited to live in it.”

Let Your Light Shine

How Pockets Full of Sunshine Is Building a Brighter Community

Pockets Full of Sunshine (PFS) creates a more fulfilling life for adults with disabilities by developing and enhancing inclusive social, vocational and community based opportunities.

Adults with disabilities age out of public school at the age of 21 and as such are suddenly faced with fewer opportunities and engagement. Many families describe this period as “falling off a cliff”, and find themselves searching for ways to fill the lives of their adults with special needs with meaning and purpose. We are forever evolving and committed to building our programming for the adults. We address their unmet needs and desires. PFS does not receive any State or Federal funding which allows us to be more flexible and unique. We are financially supported through donations, grants, fund-raising events, such as our annual Sporting Clay event, and proceeds from our screen printing and crafting activities.

PFS was created with a simple yet powerful mission: to provide inclusive social and vocational opportunities for adults with special needs while building a community where everyone feels seen, valued, and connected. At the heart of it all are the “Rays”—the name lovingly given to the individuals who bring the organization to life each day. As co-founder Carol Bartholomew shares, “We believe that everyone, of any ability, is not only capable but deserves to be an active participant in their community."

"Everyone deserves a chance to shine. ”

What makes PFS truly special is the joy that fills every corner of the organization. Often described as having a “happy vibe,” it’s a place where kindness, gentleness, and genuine connection are part of the daily experience.

“If you’ve ever known or loved an exceptional individual, then you understand the light they bring,” Carol says. “Their bright demeanor and joyful personalities are truly rays of sunshine to everyone they meet.”

That spirit is woven into everything they do, creating an environment where friendships flourish and a deep sense of belonging takes root.

One of the most meaningful aspects of PFS is witnessing the relationships that form among the Rays, volunteers, and within the broader community. “Seeing the joy of friendships, the pride, and that sense of belonging— that’s what means the most,” Carol shares. “Together, we’ve created a village that truly makes a difference in people’s lives.” It’s a place where individuals are not only supported but celebrated, and where everyday moments become meaningful

A defining chapter in the organization’s journey came with the opening of the Sunshine House in 2025—a long-held dream that became a vibrant reality. The inspiration behind it began in an unexpected way: small yellow plastic sun shapes that were byproducts from a manufacturing plant. What started as a simple idea grew into a creative and vocational outlet, with the Rays upcycling the “sunshines” into keychains, magnets, gift tags, and more. Today, the Sunshine House serves as a hub for purpose, productivity, and positivity. It’s a place where the Rays can gather, create, and contribute while building confidence and community. “When you walk through the doors, you feel it immediately,” Carol says. “It’s happiness—and when you leave, your heart is full.”

PFS is deeply rooted in connection, both within its walls and throughout the community. One of its most beloved initiatives is “Fun in the Sun for Everyone,” an annual inclusive beach day that brings together more than 300 participants for a day of shared joy. From surfing and paddleboarding to sandcastles and face painting, the event celebrates the beauty of togetherness. “It’s about the simple pleasure of being together,” Carol explains. “Everyone leaves with sand in their toes and a huge grin on their face.”

The organization has also built meaningful partnerships that extend its impact. Through collaborations like the Serg Group Star Readers Challenge, the Rays have played an active role in giving back—handpressing over 1,500 shirts, welcoming students, and celebrating their achievements. These moments create lasting connections and reinforce the belief that everyone has something valuable to contribute

Like many nonprofits, PFS has faced challenges, particularly in its goal to provide programming at no cost to families. In response, the organization launched a micro-business centered around screen printing and handmade goods, helping support its mission while creating additional opportunities for the Rays. “We’ve learned to be resourceful and stay committed to our purpose,” Karns Hazlett, program director says. “We focus on doing the next right thing and trusting where it leads.” The PFS motto is “How can we make today their best day ever?”

Guided by values like kindness, authenticity, and what Carol describes as “The Golden Rule,” PFS continues to grow with intention. The focus remains on building relationships, embracing all abilities, and creating opportunities for joy and purpose.

Looking ahead, the future is bright. With plans to expand programming, reach more individuals, and continue growing the Sunshine House and its offerings, the organization shows no signs of slowing down. “We truly believe there are no limits to what we can provide,” Carol says.

“As long as we keep showing up with positivity and heart, there will always be more light to share.”

At its core, Pockets Full of Sunshine is more than a nonprofit—it’s a community built on joy, connection, and the belief that everyone deserves a place to belong.

“Community is much more than belonging to something; its about doing something together that makes belonging matter”

MEET THE FACES OF VAVIA DUMPSTER RENTAL

Greg Westfall & Marco Casarin

VAVIA LOWCOUNTRY

When it comes to managing waste during home renovations, cleanouts, or construction projects, having a reliable partner makes all the difference. In Hilton Head and throughout the Lowcountry and Savannah, that partner is VaVia Dumpster Rental and its owners Greg Westfall and Marco Casarin.

A locally owned roll-off dumpster company, VaVia is built on a simple promise: fast, dependable service paired with clear, local communication every step of the way. Offering same-day and next-morning service, Greg and Marco understand that timelines matter, especially when projects are moving quickly and delays aren’t an option.

But VaVia’s value goes beyond speed. Small in size yet big in capacity, their 10- and 15-yard dumpsters are thoughtfully designed to fit into tight driveways, narrow lots, and HOA-regulated neighborhoods. With a clean, neutral brown aesthetic that blends into residential settings and built-in driveway protection that homeowners appreciate, VaVia dumpsters are as considerate as they are capable.

For them, the business isn’t just about dropping off a dumpster, it’s about removing stress from the entire process.

“If the customer doesn’t have to think about their dumpster, then we’ve done our job,” says Greg.

GET TO KNOW GREG AND MARCO

That mindset is at the heart of VaVia’s “Easy Go” philosophy, a streamlined approach that prioritizes simplicity, responsiveness, and trust. From the first call or text to delivery, pickup, and follow-up, customers work with real local people who communicate clearly and proactively. No call centers. No guesswork. Just straightforward service done right.

Serving both residential and commercial clients, VaVia supports a wide range of projects—from homeowners tackling renovations or cleanouts to contractors managing job sites that require efficiency and flexibility. Greg and Marco have made it a priority to be a dependable resource for the local trades and families alike, helping projects stay on track while keeping job sites and neighborhoods clean.

Greg and Marco credit their dogs for the creation of VaVia Lowcountry, having met on early morning beach walks during the pandemic and discovering a shared dream to build a business that kept them in the Lowcountry. Bringing experience from the corporate world, they turned garbage into gold, building a company on top-notch customer service, clear communication, commitment, and heart—ditching the suits and ties with no looking back!

At its core, VaVia Dumpster Rental reflects the duo’s belief in doing business the right way: showing up on time, communicating honestly, and treating every customer like a neighbor, because they often are.

By combining modern convenience with a genuine commitment to the community, VaVia Dumpster Rental isn’t just hauling debris. They’re helping build a smoother, more connected Lowcountry, one project at a time.

Annie Bartholomew

ANNIE SCOTT EVENTS

A Hilton Head native with a heart for meaningful celebrations, Annie of Annie Scott Events brings a warm, thoughtful approach to every event she touches. Her deep roots in the Lowcountry shine through in her work, blending coastal charm with intentional, personalized design. From the very beginning, it was clear this was more than a passing interest. As she shares, “I found a notebook from when I was 12… full of vendors, bouquets, and timelines,” a glimpse into a lifelong passion that would one day grow into a thriving wedding planning business.

For Annie, weddings are more than beautifully styled days. They are sacred, joy-filled moments where stories, families, and faith often come together. “There’s nothing like watching two people step into forever surrounded by the people they love,” she says. “It never gets old.” Her passion lies in walking alongside couples through every step of the journey, helping them feel seen, celebrated, and cared for. From the smallest details to the biggest decisions, Annie approaches each wedding with intention and heart.

After studying at the University of South Carolina and gaining experience through travel and life in different cities, Annie returned to Hilton Head with a renewed vision. “This is home,” she explains. “And I love getting to create something special for people in a place that means so much to me.”

Outside of weddings, Annie’s heart for people extends to her family and the non-profit her parents co-founded, Pockets full of Sunshine, which supports adults with special needs. That same compassion and joy are woven into everything she does. “At the end of the day, it’s about people,” Annie shares. “Celebrating them, supporting them, and creating moments they’ll carry with them forever.”

GET TO KNOW ANNIE

When she’s not planning beautiful weddings, Annie loves spending time out on the boat with her family, traveling with friends, and soaking up every moment with her loved ones including her Pocket family.

Her clients often describe her as both a steady guide and a calming presence, someone who brings clarity and peace to what can feel like an overwhelming process. Annie has a gift for turning visions into reality while keeping the experience joyful along the way. “I want my couples to actually enjoy this season. It should feel exciting, not stressful.” With her thoughtful approach and genuine care, Annie ensures every couple feels supported from the first conversation to the final sendoff, creating weddings that are not only beautiful, but deeply meaningful.

MEET THE FACE OF FAMILY PRIMARY CARE

Tricia Amelung

LOWCOUNTRY FAMILY CARE

At Lowcountry Family Care, Tricia Amelung has created more than a primary care practice. She has built a place where patients feel known, cared for, and genuinely welcomed. With a mission rooted in both compassion and connection, her approach is simple: “Fun and friendly family care. Primary care for life.”

For Tricia, healthcare is about more than treating symptoms. It is about creating an environment where people feel comfortable, heard, and empowered in their health journey. “I want to take away the anxiety of going to the doctor and bring back joy in taking care of yourself and your loved ones,” she shares. That mindset has shaped every part of her practice, from the warm greetings at the front desk to the intentional, unhurried conversations with patients.

Her philosophy centers on proactive care and meaningful relationships. “Primary care is not all about prescribing medications; people want to be listened to and heard,” Tricia explains. She takes pride in walking alongside her patients, developing care plans together, and celebrating their progress, whether that is improved health, a better quality of life, or even reducing medications over time.

What truly sets Lowcountry Family Care apart is its personal touch. Patients are treated like family, not numbers, and every interaction matters. “We want our patients to be well taken care of… wherever they might find themselves in their healthcare journey,” she says. Tricia’s journey has not been without challenges, but her faith and perseverance have guided her every step of the way. “God continues to guide me, bless me, and provide for me through it,” she reflects.

GET TO KNOW TRICIA & HER DAUGHTER, KAYLA

Family is at the heart of Tricia’s life, and she feels especially blessed to work alongside her daughter Kayla, while also cherishing time together outside the office with bike rides, beach days, and simply being with the ones they love.

At its heart, her practice is about more than medicine. It is about creating a space filled with “joy, love, peace, kindness, and hope,” where every patient leaves a little brighter and healthier than when they arrived.

LOUISE MILLER COHEN & HER DAUGHTERS WORK TO KEEP GULLAH TRADITION ALIVE

“I remember walking to school from my house on Gum Tree Road to Pope School, a two-room schoolhouse on Squire Pope Road down there by Benny Hudson’s. We took a shortcut through the woods, carrying our fried bread in paper bags for lunch. That was the route I took from age 6 til they finally got the bus to pick the children up. I remember it being so cold and the rain - you would have icicles hanging from the trees,”

Founder and Executive Director Louise Cohen reminisces about her childhood between hosting tour groups at the non-profit award-winning Gullah Museum of Hilton Head Island which she established in 2006.

Dr. Cohen and her family have dedicated their efforts and resources to the revival and preservation of the Gullah/Geechee Culture. The original home of her ancestors built in 1930 sits on land that has been in her family for many generations, originally purchased by her great-grandfather, William Simmons, born an enslaved person who later served in US Army.

“Our hats need to be off to our elders on this island. As people come to the museum, I encourage them not to stop talking about our elders because those people went through much hardship and they had to have much courage to do what they had to do to survive. Back in the day there was nothing here but farming and the rivers so that means everything was seasonal - you farmed from spring until fall, then it was time to go in the creek. That’s when people went to work in the oyster factories because that’s when they made their living. They had to open those oysters and I never forget going through Momma’s stuff that I found an oyster hammer that she cracked the oyster with for so long that the imprint of her thumb is embedded in that hammer. She did that for me - she was taking care of this child.”

Omolola “Lola” Campbell

Omolola “Lola” carries her heritage with both pride and purpose, weaving the rich traditions of the Gullah culture into everything she does. As a sixth-generation native Islander, her connection to her roots runs deep, and it shines through in her work with Binya, a gift shop and cultural consulting business dedicated to preserving and sharing Gullah stories.

For Lola, this journey is deeply personal. “I’ve always had pride in my heritage,” she shares, “and I wanted to create a space where those stories could be experienced and understood.” What began as a calling has grown into something truly special, offering both locals and visitors a meaningful glimpse into a culture that has shaped Hilton Head Island in profound ways.

Her path was not without challenges. After returning home during the uncertainty of COVID and experiencing the loss of her father, Lola found herself rethinking everything. “That season made me realize how short life is,” she reflects. “It pushed me to search for my true purpose, and that’s what led me here.” Stepping away from her career in law was not easy, but it opened the door for her to build something that aligned with her heart.

Today, Lola’s work is rooted in authenticity and education. Every person who walks into Binya leaves with more than a purchase. “I want people to feel like they’ve discovered something new and meaningful,” she says. “It’s about connection, understanding, and honoring where we come from.”

GET TO KNOW LOLA

Outside of work, Lola enjoys spending time with her community and family, especially her son Jaylen who inspires her daily, while continuing to carry her love for storytelling and culture into the way she lives and connects with others.

Looking ahead, Lola is filled with vision and quiet excitement for what’s to come. She hopes to expand her impact through more cultural consulting and meaningful projects that continue to spotlight the beauty and significance of Gullah heritage. “I truly believe there is so much more ahead,” she says with a smile. “There are stories still waiting to be told and spaces where our culture can shine even brighter.” Whether through her shop, her storytelling, or the connections she builds each day, Lola remains committed to honoring the past while inspiring the future, always holding onto the belief that “in the midst of our lives, we must find the magic that makes our souls soar.”

FACES OF REAL ESTATE

Wendy Corbitt

SEA PINES REAL ESTATE BEACH CLUB

Q: HOW DID YOU COME TO THE LOWCOUNTRY?

My husband, Cary, and I came to Hilton Head Island as newlyweds. Having recently graduated from college and wanting to work in the golf industry, Cary knew Hilton Head Island was where he wanted to be. I, on the other hand, had a degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry and was fortunate enough to work in the pathology department of Hilton Head Hospital in its beginnings. I continued to work in the medical field including about 10 years in oncology and research immunology. After we adopted our son, I needed more flexibility in my schedule, so my husband suggested I get my real estate license. I took his advice and never looked back. Working in general brokerage with Sea Pines Real Estate Company from 2000 to 2009 was a great experience. Subsequently, I, along with two other partners, formed Sea Pines Real Estate at The Beach Club.

Q:

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR PASSION FOR SELLING REAL ESTATE IN THIS BEAUTIFUL REGION?

When you love something, you naturally want to share it with others. It is easy to fall in love with the Lowcountry’s natural beauty and exceptional climate. Beyond that, the vision of early developers and that of our local leadership helped shape our community and preserve all that we treasure as Lowcountry residents. I often tell my clients that our greatest resource is our people, and they will not find a more civic-minded and philanthropic community than ours. We are rich in people resources – people who generously give their time, talent and treasure to make the lives of others better.

Q: WHAT

DO YOU ENJOY DOING OUTSIDE OF WORK?

Cary and I both enjoy golf, bike riding, and boating in our leisure time as well as spending time with our family. We are actively involved in various ministries at St. Luke’s Anglican Church. We support Island organizations like The Heritage Classic Foundation, Volunteers in Medicine, Deep Well, Boys and Girls Club, OpFOB, and FCA.

Monte Leath

HILTON HEAD HUMANE ASSOCIATION

Monte Leath serves as the Board Chair of the Hilton Head Humane Association, a role that reflects both his leadership and his heart for service. As the organization approaches its 50th anniversary this June, Monte remains focused on its mission to improve the lives of homeless dogs and cats through adoption. His involvement is rooted in a simple but powerful desire to give back and make a meaningful difference.

“I think most people reach a point where they feel called to serve others in a deeper way,” Monte shares. “For me, being an animal lover made that decision easy.” That passion is evident in the way he speaks about the organization and the people behind it. He credits much of the association’s success to its dedicated staff and volunteers who invest countless hours into caring for animals and helping them find loving homes.

What sets the Hilton Head Humane Association apart, according to Monte, is the collective commitment of its team and the genuine compassion that drives their work each day. Whether through adoption services or community engagement, the organization consistently strives to create positive outcomes for both animals and families.

Monte finds the greatest reward in the impact of that work. “At the end of each day, it is fulfilling to know we contributed to someone’s happiness,” he says. From community events to fundraisers and outreach efforts, the organization remains actively involved in bringing people together for a shared cause.

Outside of his role, Monte values time spent with family and friends, creating lasting memories. His personal motto reflects his outlook on life: “Always be positive, appreciate what you have, and work to make a difference before you leave this world.”

They are open Monday through Saturday from 11 AM to 4 PM no appointment needed to stop by, visit, or adopt!

Beth DeAngelis

Q: HOW DID YOU COME TO THE LOWCOUNTRY?

My earliest memories of Hilton Head Island begin with a long car ride from Lititz, Pennsylvania—my parents, a childhood friend, and our black Labrador, Pepper, all packed in and heading south after sunset. We would arrive a day later—tired, a little grumpy, but filled with anticipation.

And then…we would cross the bridge.

I can still picture it—the light dancing on the water, the quiet, untouched beauty of the Island. Even as a child, it felt different. Special. Like we had arrived somewhere we were meant to be - like coming home.

Q: WHAT INSPIRES YOUR PASSION FOR SELLING REAL ESTATE IN THIS BEAUTIFUL REGION?

The beauty of the Lowcountry never left me. I returned in 2007 to the opportunity to share this place with others. There’s something incredibly rewarding about helping someone discover not just a home, but a lifestyle. My role is to listen, guide, and help my clients truly see themselves here—becoming part of the fabric of the Lowcountry. Because in the end, it’s never just about real estate. It’s about helping people find their place in a setting that feels both extraordinary and, at the same time, like home. That’s what has shaped my approach: local knowledge, trusted experience, and a commitment to exceptional results.

Q: WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING OUTSIDE OF WORK?

I love taking our dogs for a run on the beach, heading out on the boat to spot dolphins and explore the Lowcountry from the water, catching football on Sundays at a local spot, or simply unwinding in the evening as the sky softens into sunset over the water from our dock.

LIGHTHOUSE REALTY

Q: HOW DID YOU COME TO THE LOWCOUNTRY?

My connection to Hilton Head Island began long before I lived here full time. In 1965, my parents honeymooned on South Forest Beach and immediately fell in love with the island. From that point forward, our family spent summers here, and those early experiences created a lasting bond.

That connection became more permanent when my grandparents retired to Hilton Head, and I transferred to Hilton Head Prep for my senior year. After college and a decade away, I returned in 1997. Not long after, I met my husband, David, who had also been drawn here after college. We shared a deep appreciation for the outdoors, the lifestyle, and the community—and it became the place where we built both our business and our family, raising our three children.

Q: WHAT INSPIRES YOUR PASSION FOR SELLING REAL ESTATE IN THIS BEAUTIFUL REGION?

It is the seamless blend of landscape and lifestyle. The Lowcountry’s natural beauty is undeniable, but it is the character of the community that truly defines it. Hilton Head attracts those seeking something more - balance, connection, and a refined coastal lifestyle. Guiding clients as they discover or deepen that connection is a privilege. Real estate here is about curating a way of living, guiding people toward a lifestyle that reflects what matters most to them.

Q: WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING OUTSIDE OF WORK?

We fully embrace the outdoor, coastal lifestyle that defines this area. Much of our time is spent on the water—boating, paddleboarding, or enjoying the beach with family and friends. On land, we enjoy cycling the island’s scenic pathways, exploring the natural beauty of Pinckney Island, and spending time painting the coast, which offers endless inspiration.

SEA PINES REAL ESTATE BEACH CLUB

Q: HOW DID YOU COME TO THE LOWCOUNTRY?

I came to know the Lowcountry from my previous career in 1974 as a tennis player in college. I taught tennis at Sea Pines Racquet Club in the summers of 1974-1977. Then I taught full time from 1978-1982. When I first arrived here there were 5,000 residents and one stoplight on Pope Avenue.

In 1981, I met my wife Wendy at the US Open tennis match in New York while working with professional tennis player Stan Smith. She and I were married in 1984 and made our home on Hilton Head. Then in 1989, I became involved in real estate working in development and sales of the five-star residential golf community Colleton River Plantation. Later I was approached by the Sea Pines Company to become project manager and director of sales for the Sea Crest Oceanfront Condominium development on Hilton Head, which sold out in three years.

Q: WHAT INSPIRES YOUR PASSION FOR SELLING REAL ESTATE IN THIS BEAUTIFUL REGION?

Really it is the people that I feel I have helped find their dream here. Working as partners in finding the correct location, home and community. Just a great feeling if you will when folks get excited that you have helped guide them properly.

Q: WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING OUTSIDE OF WORK?

Being with family and enjoying our 4 grandchildren is top on my list. Enjoying the outdoors here in the Lowcountry from biking to playing golf and occasionally boating.

Q: HOW DID YOU COME TO THE LOWCOUNTRY AND HOW DID COAST COME TO BE?

Rick: I came here after college visiting a friend and got hooked on the natural beauty of the atmosphere of the island.

Tristan: Our family traveled extensively throughout my childhood living in England, South Africa, and Australia. After a few visits to The Carolinas in the late 80’s, my folks crossed the Atlantic and landed on Hilton Head Island. After college, Rick and I met - He was the bar manager at the Quarterdeck. I had just opened Moneypennys.

We quickly built a strong friendship which led to us working together at the Wm F Hilton Company selling real estate in the early 2000’s. In 2005 we sold 200+ properties, and in 2022, we saw an opportunity with a forward-thinking cloud-based brokerage that gave ownership to their agents with stock & revenue share. We started COAST Brokerage by eXp Realty with our support team Donna, Kasie and Caroline, and we now have 75 awesome agents.

Q: WHAT INSPIRES YOUR PASSION FOR SELLING REAL ESTATE IN THIS BEAUTIFUL REGION?

Tristan: I love guiding and helping investors with spec homes and investment portfolios. I’m very passionate about helping first time homebuyers get their first house. I just love the feeling of showing new folks around and seeing them mesmerized by the area. I’ve also met great friends just showing real estate.

Tristan: Anything that involves being with my family. I especially like watching my kids play sports! Boating and vacations with the family are highlights for me.

Anneliza “Pippi” Itkor

The golden hour is settling over the marsh, painting the spartina in shades of amber and copper. A great blue heron lifts off from the creek bank in slow, sweeping strokes. Most people would pause to admire the scene. Anneliza “Pippi” Itkor is already shooting. For over two decades, Pippi has been photographing life in the Lowcountry through the lens of Pip&Co, her photography venture built on a simple belief: every moment holds a story worth keeping. With a background in marketing and a deep instinct for journalistic-style photography, she has a way of knowing where and when to be—catching the candid laugh, the quiet glance, the unrepeatable instant—and freezing it into something that begs to be framed.

Her award-winning work has graced the pages of Local Life, CH2, and Plantation Living, among others. From red carpet events and weddings to intimate portraits and corporate storytelling, Pippi brings a creative eye sharpened by years of crafting social media content and brand imagery. But ask anyone who has stood in front of her camera, and they’ll tell you the same thing: her infectious personality puts even the most photophobic at ease.

What truly sets Pippi apart is how deeply she knows this place. Tide charts, secret locations, the way the light falls differently on Pinckney Island than it does off the Calibogue Sound —these are details earned only by time and attention. She is also a gifted instructor, leading workshops that teach shutterbugs of every level how to capture dynamic, “Insta-worthy” shots with nothing more than a smartphone. “It’s a big moment, and you only get one shot at getting it right,” Pippi says, adjusting her lens as the heron wheels back over the creek. “That’s what drives me every single time.”

TCL CULINARY INSTITUTE OF THE SOUTH

At a time when culinary education is rapidly evolving, a new Dean is bringing fresh energy and vision to the Technical College of the Lowcountry’s Culinary Institute of the South. Chef Jacqueline Orak’s appointment in August of 2024 marks a meaningful step forward for representation in both higher education and the culinary industry, fields where women have historically been underrepresented in top roles.

With a background that blends industry experience and academic leadership, she steps into a role that demands both creativity and strategic thinking. She is responsible for shaping curriculum, guiding faculty & staff, and ensuring students are prepared for real-world kitchens and food systems. The position also requires oversight of operations, budgeting, & industry partnerships, making it one of the most complex leadership roles on campus.

Having mastered the many aspects of the culinary and hospitality field, Dean Orak felt it time to disseminate her vast knowledge to future chefs. Her passion for the industry shows through in her excitement in pastries and other specialty baked goods prepared by students at the campus-based Clist Café, which has become a favorite spot for coffee lovers.

Dean Orak helps students glimpse into the future to learn what the culinary world demands of a new chef. “We’re training our students to make their mark in the industry – to become Executive Chefs, Corporate Chefs, Private Chefs…there are so many different and exciting roles they can play locally and internationally and we are preparing them for those opportunities!”

Deb Durrant

MOOR SPA HILTON HEAD

Deb Durrant, owner of Moor Spa Hilton Head, has built more than a day spa, she has created a sanctuary for our local community that evolved from her nearly three decades of hands-on healing experience. Blending traditional European and Eastern therapies with modern techniques, her approach is both holistic and deeply personal, offering guests a place to truly unwind and restore balance.

Durrant’s journey began as a licensed massage therapist, where she worked across medical clinics, lymphedema therapy, high-end spas, and sports massage. Early in her career, a pivotal experience introduced her to Moor Therapy, using therapeutic mud from Austria to reduce inflammation naturally. That discovery shaped her philosophy and ultimately led to the creation of Moor Spa Hilton Head, a space where natural healing and intentional care come together.

What sets the spa apart is its commitment to 100% natural products and customized wellness experiences. From the moment guests arrive, the environment is designed to encourage relaxation, allowing the body and mind to decompress. Each treatment is tailored, whether clients seek therapeutic results or a peaceful escape.

Beyond the spa’s tranquil setting, Durrant’s passion lies in caring for both her clients and her community. Supporting local organizations and fostering genuine connections has been central to her growth, along with a loyal clientele who value the authenticity of her work.

GET TO KNOW DEB

Deb has trained spa professionals internationally and even helped create treatment protocols for a global spa brand—all before opening her own sanctuary at Moor Spa Hilton Head.

“The biggest challenge, Deb said, “marketing and educating the community about the benefits of natural therapies like Moor Therapy. For many people, spa services are seen as a luxury rather than a meaningful part of their overall wellness, and often they don’t realize how impactful these treatments can be until they experience them for themselves.”

Looking ahead, Durrant plans to expand services while staying true to her holistic philosophy. Her vision remains clear: to create a lasting space where people feel nurtured, renewed, and truly cared for—an experience that extends far beyond the treatment room.
