Canova Peterson has announced his candidacy for re-election to represent the Mechanicsville District on the Hanover County Board of Supervisors. “Eight years ago I made the decision to give back to this community, which has treated me so well PETERSON over the years. I did so by running as the Republican candidate to serve on the Board of Supervisors as the representative from the Mechanicsville District. That decision resulted in maybe the greatest honor I have ever received, that of being selected by my fellow citizens to fill that special role,” Peterson said. Staff Report news@mechlocal.com ECHANICSVILLE -- Lee Nelson, who lost her husband Dana to multiple sclerosis, will once again be taking part in her 20th Walk MS Richmond. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, May 4. As a top fundraiser she was invited to the MS Society’s Tour of Champions, a gathering of top fundraisers from the Southeast region for Walk MS, Bike MS, and Challenge Walk MS. “Being surrounded by top fundraisers and persons living with MS was an amazing experience,” Lee said. “Each person raised at least $7,000 in order to be invited to this event. Our goal for 2018

was $1,000,000 and we met it!” She continued, “The passion, the commitment, and the dedication that this group of people have was evident in the stories shared. It was inspiring to spend time with people who are fiercely passionate about finding a cure. My weekend in Hilton Head was spent meeting new people, networking, and sharing ideas.” Lee also talked about how inspirational it was to hear other participants’ stories. “We arrived as strangers and left as family!” She said she returned home with a desire “to raise the bar with Team Hanover’s fundraising.
