or 98-year-old Darlene Godsey of Mechanicsville, being a volunteer at Memorial Regional Medical Center provides her with a second family. Her second family is the Thursday afternoon crew that works from noon to 4 p.m. On Sept. 27, the group gave Godsey a party to honor her 98th birthday, which was on Monday,

Sept. 24. Rob Herndon, director of volunteers for the hospital, said Godsey is special. “Well, she’s one of our legacy volunteers, meaning that she started at Richmond Memorial,” he said.

“Obviously, we came out here to the Hanover campus in 1998, so she’s been here ever since — dirt as they say —and there’s very few of those ladies left anymore, so it’s nice that see VOLUNTEER, pg. 4
