Business Report From the Desk of Jim Kirkos
President & CEO, Meadowlands Chamber
E
ach year at this time we are well into planning for the upcoming year. I am happy to report that in 2019 we will launch a bunch of new initiatives aimed at strengthening the Meadowlands Chamber’s ability to help you build connections while also providing you with valuable resources. We are very optimistic about the Meadowlands economy. American Dream Meadowlands will open in late Spring of 2019 and will reshape the regional economy. Additional major development projects will also add to the job growth and attraction for companies to relocate to this dynamic part of New Jersey. My management team and our Board are positioning the Meadowlands Chamber to not only retain our leadership role but also grow it. We are in fact thinking about how to be the innovative Chamber of the future. Frankly, I am totally energized by what lies ahead of us and I hope you are too. Together we can accomplish great things! On Thursday, November 8th, the Meadowlands Chamber will host its Annual Meeting Luncheon at Glen Ridge Country Club. While we reorganize our Board of Advisors that day we also talk about the future of the Chamber…and that future is bright! We will reveal new organizational branding, new websites and our thoughts about where the Chamber will venture in the coming years.
I am excited to announce that many of the upcoming changes will involve this publication, including the roll out of new print and digital platforms to better tell our story to more people and give businesses the opportunity for prime visibility within targeted audiences. As you have probably noticed, the local media landscape has changed drastically over the last few years and we feel that Meadowlands Media is in an opportune position to fill the void in both the business and consumer markets. We will tell the story of the economic development rapidly happening in our region and we will also be a vehicle for our members to be part of that story! While on the topic of economic development, you should have received your copy of the Meadowlands Economic Development & Relocation Guide in the mail. This special publication is produced by Meadowlands Media in partnership with the Meadowlands 2040 Foundation, Meadowlands Chamber, Meadowlands Live!, PSEG, NJM Insurance Group, Hackensack Meridian Health and Forsgate Industrial Partners. It provides an economic profile of the Greater Meadowlands region, including facts and statistics, as well as resources and tools for businesses to grow. While it is geared for incoming businesses to the Meadowlands, there is a wealth of information applicable to all businesses here. This is available on our blog at www.meadowlandsusa.com. As part of our expanding digital product, this publication will also now live on throughout the year in a monthly eGuide. As always, please consider contributing an article to our magazine or offering editorial suggestions for future issues—contact Director of Publications Joe Garavente (JGaravente@meadowlands.org) to find out more about how you can get involved. Also check out the blog: www.meadowlandsusa.com We look forward to seeing you at our Annual Meeting on November 8. We hope you enjoy this issue! With pride & admiration,

Own Your Meeting
Taking control in a meeting-obsessed world
I
n today’s world, business leaders and entrepreneurs are inundated with meetings. We have formal meetings, informal meetings, ad hoc meetings, all-day meetings, breakfast meetings, lunch meetings and dinner meetings. We use meetings to plan meetings and have meetings to follow-up on the meetings we have had. Meetings are a great way to improve information-gathering and decisionmaking, to brainstorm and share ideas, and to motivate and inspire our team. However, long, boring and unproductive meetings can demotivate and lead to confusion and apathy. The key to success regarding meetings is to have fewer of them, to shorten the ones we have and to put a strategy in place so that meetings are more productive. Meeting preparation Your time and the time of the meeting attendees is valuable. You should be sure the business investment is worth it. Before scheduling a meeting, ask yourself the following questions to determine whether the meeting is worth your time—both in preparation and attendance—and worth the valuable time of your attendees: • What is the purpose of the meeting? Consider how strategic this time investment will be to accomplish the goals of the business. • What are the objectives of the meeting? Be sure there is a desired outcome which can be clearly defined. • What preparation must be completed in advance? Advance preparation adds to the meeting’s productivity. • Who should attend the meeting? Eliminate courtesy invites. Invite only those necessary to meet the meeting’s objectives. • What specific topics need to be discussed to meet the objectives? Provide the meeting attendees with list of topics to be discussed. This

will aid in their preparation as well as your own. • How much time is needed to meet the objectives? Time is money and wasted time is a business killer. Set a specific time duration and stick to it. Single topic meetings should be limited to 30 minutes, multiple topics to 45-60 minutes. Send a formal meeting request to all attendees. When sending the meeting request, include the information above in a structured format so attendees know there is an intentionality about the meeting and they are to come prepared: Meeting Name: Purpose: Objectives: Duration: Topics: Attendees: Preparation: Meeting execution Own your meeting! When hosting or facilitating a meeting, be aware of the common pitfalls that can derail meeting progress. These include mismanagement of time and attention, lack of focus and careless follow-up. Avoid these pitfalls by
OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2018
following these guidelines: • Start and end on time: Respect the time of those in attendance. Start promptly, even if everyone is not present. Over time, even the stragglers will begin to arrive on schedule. Ending on time will communicate that you respect the time of others and would appreciate the same courtesy. • Eliminate Distractions: Require attendees to silence phones, stay off social media and close email. It is critical that attendees stay engaged and focused. • Stick to the Topics: The biggest time-wasters in meetings are often the unrelated conversations before the meetings begin and the stray topics during the meetings. Have the general conversations over a coffee break or lunch and stay on track during the meeting so you make the best use of the meeting time. • Utilize the parking lot: Any topic that comes up that is not part of the agenda and does not contribute to meeting the defined objectives should be added to the “parking
lot” to discuss at another time. This communicates that the topic has importance but should be addressed at a later date. • Track action items: All action items must be captured, assigned, and given a due date. Take time to review the action item list just prior to closing the meeting. Action items should then be tracked independently so time is not wasted obtaining Action Items status during follow-up meetings. • Summarize the meeting: Review the meeting purpose and goals at the end of the meeting to be sure they were met. Also review any decisions that were made and be sure everyone is aware of necessary next steps. Meeting follow-up As important as the meeting preparation and execution are, the meeting follow-up is equally important. Formally document the meeting and distribute the minutes to those in attendance, as well as to any sponsors and/or stakeholders that would need to know the outcome and decisions made. Circle back with your attendees to be sure they have the information they need to complete their action items and follow through on next steps. Conducting a well-planned and wellexecuted meeting will make your meetings more productive and save time and money for the organization. Good meeting followup will also save time and money by eliminating the need to track people down to determine the status of action items. Meetings will become a tool of productivity and efficiency as you accomplish more, meet less and own your meeting! Universal Technical Institute
New Bloomfield campus focusing on automotive & diesel training
U
niversal Technical Institute (UTI) has enrolled the inaugural class of its new Bloomfield campus, which is focused on automotive and diesel training. Close to public transportation options, it will now conveniently serve students throughout the area who wish to study the industry in a supportive and professional environment. The new technology-fueled campus covers 108,000 square feet and includes 14 classrooms and 15 training labs. Students will learn the diesel and automotive techniques through handson lessons so they can successfully enter the growing job market that’s in need of trained technicians. “There is no better time to get into the industry, because of the very high demand for technicians,” says Regional Admissions Director Kevin Gero. New campus meets growing technician need The Bloomfield location is the 13 th UTI campus in the United States and the first UTI campus in the New York metro area. Campus President Steve McElfresh says the response to the new facility from local automotive and diesel businesses already has been overwhelmingly positive. “The employers are as excited as students that we’re coming to town,” says McElfresh. “There’s a need for techs in the New Jersey and New York market,” McElfresh says, citing businesses like Crown Lift Trucks and Penske looking forward to the new campus opening.

Nationwide, opportunities for diesel and automotive service technicians and mechanics exist. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts the average number of job openings for auto service technicians to be 75,900 annually between 2016 and 2026. For diesel service technicians, the number is expected to be 28,300 jobs during the same period, according to data from U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Studying at UTI-Bloomfield will be ideal for students who: • Enjoy working or want to work with automotive vehicles or diesel machinery • Love hands-on work • Want to enter an industry that offers job opportunities • Want a career that relies on professionals to satisfy customers through exceptional service Students who begin their careers as entry-level technicians may later become lead technicians or service managers at a wide variety of businesses, including dealerships. Benefits of an education at UTI-Bloomfield One of the advantages of the UTI programs is that students are connected to a rich network of manufacturers of more than 30 brands that influence the curriculum and add postings to the UTI job board. Graduates will be prepared to complete examinations for
the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification. Program completion can be substituted for one of the two years of work experience required for ASE certification. In addition to the high standard of excellence in courses taught by experienced instructors with real-world knowledge, one of UTI ‘s defining traits is the emphasis of professionalism. Part of students’ grades depend on exhibiting professionalism, which benefits them once they enter the field. “I’ve interviewed a lot of folks who say UTI candidates stand out, which I think is because of the professionalism,” McElfresh says. “For us, it’s not just about them getting the job. It’s about them keeping the job.” During their courses, students are graded not just on classwork, lab work and interactive online learning, but also attendance and professionalism, including factors such as punctuality and attitude. Students can expect to be guided by instructors who care about graduate’s futures. “All of our employees are trained to be mentors to our students,” McElfresh says. “We look for people who have been in the industry and who have a passion for the industry. We’re all responsible for helping students make that transition from orientation to graduation day.” Potential applicants who want to learn more about how studying at UTI-Bloomfield can help accelerate their future are encouraged to contact the campus to learn more. McElfresh says students can be confident in the support they’ll receive on campus. “We want them to know this is a partnership,” McElfresh says. “The end goal is to get our students ready for jobs. What’s most impressive about our students—and there are so many who have passion for this industry—is that they actually go into an industry doing what they love. Everything we teach them is going to be relevant when they go out into the industry. You’re going to use what you learn.” The UTI-Bloomfield campus is at 1515 Broad Street in Bloomfield, New Jersey. If you are interested in applying, please call 833-207-6077 for more information or visit uti.edu/locations/new-jersey/bloomfield. You can also request information online.

Business Banking Tips
How small business owners & executives can maximize their banking experience
S
mall businesses are one of the most important and necessary aspects of economic stimulation, and have been the foundation of commerce since the dawn of the Industrial Revolution. But in this modern world, massive corporations have grown to seemingly corner every market, making it very intimidating to try and get your foot in the door as a small business owner. Don’t be discouraged. Remember that every commercial titan occupying the marketspace can be traced back to a clever old entrepreneur. Competition from small businesses which can market directly to customers, adapt to the environment more quickly and fill the needs which larger companies fail to are key in preventing economic stagnation. Although meritocracy has shown throughout history to foster success and innovation, a small business can only take off and grow to its full potential if it has something which can jumpstart it. Namely, finding a good bank. As much a part of business as production and marketing, financing will make or break an upstart. Many of the same laws which protect corporations apply to small businesses too, it’s just a matter of recognizing how to take advantage of them. If you familiarize yourself enough with the economic system and structure of banking, you can avoid the many pitfalls which could damage your company’s growth, and move through the many loopholes that can allow your company to flourish. Here are 3 simple but extremely helpful tips in establishing an advantageous relationship between your business and its bank.
12 MEADOWLANDS USA
meadowlandsusa.com OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2018
1. Nothing gets you nothing, so consider the fees. In the famous Broadway musical adaptation of the classic French novel “Les Miserables”, there’s a number called “Master of the House.” In it, a crooked innkeeper proudly sings about how his prices are incredibly low but he charges guests for countless minutia such as shutting the windows or looking in the mirror. By doing this, he’s not technically lying when he says his individual prices are incredibly low but he still cheats people out of all their money when it all adds up in the end. This is frighteningly analogous to how some banks conduct their practices. Banks are businesses at their core. This isn’t a bad thing, of course, but it does mean that they focus largely on making money. And since they’re such an essential part of society, it’s near impossible to move through life without using them. As a small business owner, you’re inevitably going to be using many of the functions that banks offer. But remember to go over every detail you can with a fine tooth comb. Certain banks will charge fees on credit and debit cards, paper statements, physical copies of checks and rewards programs. Sometimes, they’ll even charge maintenance fees on your account if you go a period of time without making a transaction. The best way to avoid being harmed by all the seemingly minor fees adding up is actually simple. Research. Every bank has its own methods and not every option charges the same fees. Consider the precise nature of your business. Whether you want to manufacture and sell a line of products or provide a specialized service for which you’d need to hire employees. Identify the services you’ll most be using and
consider which available bank charges the least for using them. Additionally, refrain from using unnecessary services when you could do it yourself. But don’t waste time or money if you cannot do it correctly. Sure, it could be tedious but that’s part of the challenge of running a small business: putting in the hours looking up user reviews and official statements can save you thousands of dollars. 2. Consider if your business model better fits a smaller local bank or a larger institution. Although their role as arbiters of financial loans is integral to modern society, remember that banks are businesses. This means that they come in different sizes, and that means they cater to different customers. In a sense, you’re both the customer in this exchange. They want you to get on board so they can profit off of you. But since you’re receiving support from them, the relationship between a bank and its client should be a roughly equivalent partnership. That means that large national banks usually work best when partnering with large businesses—and you may be considered less of a priority. But even some very small businesses prefer to work with large businesses due to convenience, security measures and certain account features. If you go to a smaller locally based bank, it’s a safer bet that you’ll be given more in depth attention and help. Banks rely on you to make profit, and you rely on the bank to support and assist your company so that you can afford to make your product. If you can sell enough, you’ll make back the cost of the loan and more. The ideal relationship between you and your bank is this positive feedback loop of mutual respect and dependency. You could even negotiate interest rates with your bank if you’ve got a good enough track record to convince them that your company is strong enough to make back their loan. That sort of flexibility is difficult to achieve with a large scale national bank. As Atlantic Stewardship Bank CEO Paul Van Ostenbridge states while speaking on his company’s policies and philosophy, “Many business owners think all banks or financial partners are the same and although many of the products are similar, the partnership aspect is not. At Atlantic Stewardship Bank, all decisions are made locally by professional bankers who know the market. Our lenders and managers are responsive and respectful of

The bank is a key supporter of numerous community events, programs and nonprofit organizations through its Community Alliance Program, which provides local nonprofit organizations the opportunity to earn money based on the number of supporters who bank with Boiling Springs. Kearny Bank, Provident Bank, Spencer Savings Bank and Bogota Savings Bank, which have all been operational since the 1800s, also assume important roles in the community and provide small businesses with customized options for their banking needs. It is this very same reliability and trust between the bank and the client— which have held these companies together MEADOWLANDS USA
throughout nearly all of modern history— that you want to try and foster with your business. Of course, just because small banks can offer a more direct relationship doesn’t mean that you should disregard larger ones as viable options. There are certainly advantages to partnering with a national bank too, such as the added security they provide, even if it means adhering to stricter regulations and policies. You also don’t even have to lose that sense of personal closeness. Stephen A. Jarossy, the Vice President of TD Bank, a national institution, says that “A good banker will take the time to get to know you and your business. Take the time to know your bank and your banker. You may be doing business together for a long time. Relationships still matter a lot, especially in commercial banking.” In the end, it comes down to what your business is and what you’re going to meadowlandsusa.com

need to establish it. Thoroughly researching the banks which are available options is one of the best things you can possibly do for yourself, second only to planning and analyzing in depth every risk and marketing approach and employee wages and production cost highly specialized to your own specific business model. 3. Respect your bank, go in with a strong plan and hold up your end of the bargain. A recurring message which should be acknowledged throughout these tips is that they focus on understanding your bank as well as your business. Every bank does things a little differently in terms of tax, loans, interest and fees. There are many ways some banks can take advantage of you if you aren’t careful, but it’s insane to imagine that banks are malicious towards their own customers. The pitfalls and hidden fees are there for a reason, and that reason is insurance. An unsettling thought for any business minded person is that money is only worth what people think it is worth. The government keeps careful track of what’s in circulation but only through a social agreement of supply and demand can a strip of dyed cloth be exchanged for the food and water you need to live.
When this balancing act is thrown off and people spend more money than there is and the numbers all change and then suddenly everything’s worthless, society is thrown into chaos. Economic crashes like these can be seen all throughout world history, and even as uncomfortably recent and close to home as the 2008 real estate crash, a direct result of loans being given out carelessly. The banks help control the economy and how the general population interacts with it. This gives them an amount of responsibility which it’s difficult to overstate. A bank isn’t some enemy which you need to fight against so you can win loans. They only charge extra fees because so often people take out loans that they cannot repay, which means that they’re drawing from the pool of their customer base’s money. This is unfair to users of the bank, as it literally means that the money they’re supposed to have is imaginary until the loan is repaid. So though it may seem unfair to individuals who aren’t savvy enough, banks are actually providing the greatest public service of all by giving meaning to society in general. Because of their important and delicate position, you can’t simply go into a bank and expect a loan based solely on your
word that eventually you’ll be able to pay it back. You need to pitch your business to the bank as you would to an investor. Show them that you’ve got a thoroughly thought out and well calculated plan of action, with plenty of contingencies. Convince them that enough people will want your product that your company will be profitable. “We are going to ask you to invest in yourself and your business. You’re not going to get 100 percent financing. Figure 80 percent of cost or collateral value, and up to 90 percent with SBA,” Jarossy states regarding TD Bank’s policy. Remember, inspire confidence by taking it upon yourself to provide collateral. When you apply for small business administration loans you should allocate specific percentages of the cost you need and what you need it for. Calculate a realistic profit margin and expected growth over time. Kearny Bank
Forbes recognizes Kearny Bank as one of New Jersey’s top five banks
A
prestigious, new Forbes survey has recognized Fairfield-based Kearny Bank as one of New Jersey’s five Best-In-State-Banks. This recognition is focused on customer experiences with specific emphasis on recommendations and overall satisfaction. Forbes assigned Best-In-State rankings for banks in 49 states based exclusively on information gathered online from a pool of 25,000 private U.S. citizens. The research firm Statista partnered with Forbes in conducting the nationwide survey. “It’s an honor to be recognized on the Forbes New Jersey list, particularly since our placement was determined solely by input from customers,” says Craig L. Montanaro, President and CEO of Kearny Bank. “Our mantra at Kearny Bank places tremendous importance on providing the best banking experience to all those who utilize our services. The Forbes survey would seem to indicate that this longstanding focus is paying off.” The five subdivisions in the research, which confirmed Kearny Bank’s inclusion on the New Jersey list, were trust, terms and conditions, branch services, digital services and financial advice. “The banking sector is intensely competitive, and any bank committed to prospering needs to be doing multiple things right,” explains Eric Heyer, Kearny Bank’s Senior Executive Vice President/ Chief Operating Officer. “I’d suggest Kearny Bank’s inclusion on this Forbes listing of New Jersey’s five Best-In-State-Banks demonstrates that we do indeed excel on multiple fronts.” In 2018, Kearny Bank became the fifth largest community bank in the New York metropolitan area (based on total assets) as a result of its merger with Clifton Savings Bank. Kearny Bank’s total assets increased from $4.8 billion to $6.6 billion upon completion of this merger. Other banks included on Forbes’ New Jersey listing are OceanFirst Bank, Santander Bank, Beneficial Bank and Investors Bank. The final, New Jersey list is available here. In its survey, Forbes asked participants to list all banks at which they’d ever had a checking or savings account. From there, they were asked to assign ratings to all banks they’d listed, based on a variety of evaluation criteria. Nationwide, 124 different banks ultimately qualified for inclusion on the appropriate state listing. This total number represents only 2.2 percent of all U.S. banks. About Kearny Bank Kearny Financial Corp. is the parent company of Kearny Bank, which operates from its administrative headquarters building in Fairfield, NJ. Kearny Bank has supported the communities it serves since 1884. The bank has assets of $4.8 billion and operates 42 full-service banking offices in northern and central New Jersey, and in Brooklyn and Staten Island, New York. Kearny Bank was recently named to Forbes’ list of the 50 Most Trustworthy Financial Companies.

Retirement Planning
Is an Individual 401(k) plan right for you?
I
f you can answer “yes” to either of the following questions, then maybe it is: “Are you the sole employee of your business?” or “Does your business employ only you, your co-owners and spouses?” Chances are even if you did answer “yes” you’ve never considered establishing a 401(k) plan to save for retirement because you think they’re strictly for larger companies. They’re not. Tax law changes have made 401(k) plans attractive for all businesses, especially if you’re looking to make substantial contributions. An Individual 401(k) is a unique retirement savings opportunity designed for corporations, partnerships and sole proprietorships that employ only owners and their spouses. If you’re an independent consultant, real estate agent or accountant, an Individual 401(k) may be a good retirement plan option for you. Currently, the maximum employer contribution to this type of plan is up to 25 percent of eligible compensation. In addition to the 25 percent employer contribution, you are able to defer $18,500 or $24,500 if over age 50, through payroll deductions for a possible maximum contribution of $55,000 or $61,000 if over age 50. There are also other potential benefits that an Individual 401(k) plan brings to the table: Flexibility: All contributions are discretionary. Loans: Loans may be permitted. Choices: You should choose an advisor that offers the flexibility of a brokerage advisory account and the ability to invest in a variety of stocks, bonds and mutual funds with choices for investors at all risk-tolerance levels. Low cost: Individual 401(k) plan costs can be substantially less than those of traditional 401(k) plans due to reduced administrative requirements. Take a look at how an Individual 401(k) plan compares with other popular retirement plans for small business owners. Let’s say you are younger than 50 years of age, own an incorporated business and earn $150,000 in salary this year. With a SEP IRA plan, you would be able
18 MEADOWLANDS USA
to contribute $37,500 in 2018 toward your retirement savings. For a SIMPLE IRA plan, you would only be able to contribute up to $17,000. However, with an Individual 401(k), you would be able to contribute up to $55,000 to your retirement fund, increasing the compounding power of your retirement savings. The example shows that you can certainly stand to benefit from the higher contribution amounts allowed with an Individual 401(k). While this plan may be a bit more costly than a SEP IRA or a SIMPLE IRA because of the tax reporting requirements and annual administrative costs, the ability to make higher contributions may make it more cost-effective. Another potential benefit of this type of plan is that contributions are tax deductible and can accumulate tax deferred until withdrawn. Finally, if you have multiple retirement plan accounts from previous employers, you may want to consider discussing the advantages of consolidating your plans. And if you are employed at a company that
meadowlandsusa.com OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2018
offers a 401(k) but you also own your own business, you may contribute to both plans, though certain limitations apply. The most important thing about any retirement plan is to begin saving as soon as possible. Your financial advisor can work with you and your tax professional to help you decide what the best retirement plan option is for you. This article was written by Wells Fargo Advisors and provided courtesy of Paul Thomasset, Financial Advisor in Hackensack, NJ at (201) 397-1465. 401(k) withdrawals are subject to ordinary income tax and may be subject to a federal 10% penalty if taken prior to age 59 ½. LESSONS IN LEADERSHIP
Keep It Simple
Effective, relevant & strategic information is key to successful communication
T
here’s too much information out there and it seems to be getting worse every day. Often people say that the problem in a particular organization is that “more communication is needed.” However, the fact is, it is rarely more communication or information that is lacking, but rather, more effective, relevant and strategic information. Consider the following: • More communication or information isn’t always a good thing. The Internet and social media is filled with lots of information, but how much of it is actually pertinent to our lives? Our televisions now offer hundreds of channels – lots of choices, lots of information. But how much of it can we really use? Of the e-mails we get, how many of them are junk? Whether it’s the Internet, television or the reams of memos and e-mail that inundate us, we are constantly trying to manage and make sense of the information and data in our lives. • Numbers and data are numbing. One of the biggest problems people make when giving presentations is that they simply have too much data or too many facts that they are trying to communicate. What they don’t realize is that the more information they want to cram into the heads of their audience, the greater the likelihood that they will lose, confuse and in fact bore their audience. • Cut your speech in half. Research shows that the vast amount of information that you communicate in a speech or presentation will be forgotten by most of your audience within five minutes. Further, much of what people are convinced they remember,
20 MEADOWLANDS USA
they remember incorrectly. Just like a columnist must edit his writing to fit the allotted space in a newspaper, the same is true of a presenter. So next time you have to give a presentation, consider cutting it down by at least half. If you plan to speak for 20 minutes, only speak for ten. • Our minds hate confusion. We often present the way we do, cramming in every fact, number or statistic, in order to show how smart we are. Well, most people aren’t impressed. They just think we’re trying to tell them everything we know rather than thinking about the information they might actually care about or find relevant. But doing “data dumps” continues to be the norm in too many organizations. We have all sat through presentations where the presenter runs through 20 or more slides, literally reading the overwhelming amount of text on each slide. Not only do we fade out, but we could have read all that information in a handout or, better, yet, the presenter could go green and let us know where to find that information on his or her website. As an audience, we want to be engaged, not lectured to. • Less is more. Many of us are still convinced that the more voluminous a presentation or report, the more likely we are to get positive feedback. It’s just like in college or high school, when the teacher asks you to write a
meadowlandsusa.com OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2018
term paper that is no longer than ten pages and you submit one that is 20 pages. We delude ourselves into thinking that 20 pages will help us get a better grade. Rarely does it work that way, particularly when the teacher grading the term paper can’t figure out what the point is. I’m convinced we give long speeches and write lengthy term papers because we think doing so covers our behinds and implies that we did a lot of work. In truth, that approach is often the product of laziness. Simply put, the hard work is in editing, cutting down and prioritizing communication. This comes down to making tough choices and asking ourselves some hard questions about what is really important both to us and our audience. My advice? Start editing right away. Your audience will appreciate you for it. Steve Adubato Ph.D., is the author of numerous books including his latest, “You Are the Brand”, and his upcoming book, “Lessons in Leadership”. In the aftermath of the gas crisis of the 1970’s, Meadowlands Transportation Brokerage Corporation (MTBC) was incorporated in 1983 as a not for profit, publicprivate partnership to improve access, reduce congestion and promote economic growth by working with businesses and government agencies to address the employee commuting challenges in Northern New Jersey. The charter members were the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, New Jersey Turnpike Authority, New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority, New Jersey Meadowlands Commission, New Jersey Department of Transportation and the Meadowlands Chamber. In the 1980’s MTBC primarily served the geographic area around the Meadowlands and did business as “Meadowlink.” As MTBC expanded to an area beyond the Meadowlands, it began using the name EZ Ride, which shifted attention from its geographic base to the services it provided. The EZ Ride name stuck and in 2005 it became the primary brand identification of the Meadowlands Transportation Brokerage Corporation.
Mission
To implement innovative transportation programs and services that enhance the quality of life, regional mobility and economic opportunity for both people and businesses while reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality.
About The Company
AT EZ Ride, we believe that access to safe, affordable and reliable transportation is critical to our quality of life and the economic growth of the region. Transportation is a daily concern for commuters who cannot afford to drive to work, for older adults and people with disabilities who do not drive a car and for businesses seeking to recruit and retain employees and do not have easy access to public transportation or face parking constraints. For over 35-years, we have helped people overcome transportation barriers
meadowlandsusa.com OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2018
by partnering with public and private sector organizations to implement transportation programs like carpools, vanpools, shuttles, transportation for riders with reduced mobility, bicycling & walking programs and even transportation with companies like Lyft and Uber. More than 300 companies in NJ use our transportation services. Whatever your transportation needs, EZ Ride is here to help.
Portfolio
1. Our shuttles transport about 2,000 commuters on a typical workday, linking them with transit hubs such as Newark Penn, Secaucus Junction, Harrison, Rutherford and Lyndhurst. The EZ Ride shuttles operate 24/7 serving workers day and night. Our clients include public entities like New Jersey Transit, Essex County, Passaic County, and Montclair Township as well as businesses like Hartz Mountain Industries, BNE Real Estate, Russo Development, KABR, Petrucci Residential, United Parcel Service (UPS), Ernst & Young, Rose Brand, ARRI Rental and Frederick Goldman. 2. In 2017, EZ Ride partnered with Lyft to launch Ryde4Life, a state-wide program to provide rides for older adults who do not have access to a smart phone. About 1,000 riders participate in the program and they took more than 10,000 rides in the last 12-months. 3. In Monmouth County, EZ Ride provides transportation services for people with disabilities. Ridership on the Flex-T program has more than doubled since 2015 to a total of 19,800 rides. 4. EZ Ride partners with Enterprise and New Jersey Transit to provide vanpool services for employees from companies like PSE&G and Merck and manages about 25 vanpools. Additionally, more than 36,000 commuters from schools such as Rutgers and Kean University and businesses like United Airlines and BD participate in our carpool program. 5. In partnership with the New Jersey Department of Transportation and the Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers, our bike and pedestrian team promotes safe
walking and biking in more than 100 different communities by providing information and even free bike helmets.
Business Competitiveness
1. Public-Private Partnership EZ Ride is one of the few nonprofit public-private partnerships that focus exclusively on providing transportation services. Organizations like New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), NJ Transit, North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ) serve on our board and help us access federal funds, where possible. 2. Focus on Safety Safety is paramount at EZ Ride. Our drivers meet the highest industry standards. Our vehicles exceed strict state inspection standards and our in-vehicle cameras help record any accidents or incidents. 3. Focus on Reliability Our clients demand reliability. EZ Ride delivers it with newer vehicles regular maintenance and Twitter updates on services affected by weather and traffic conditions.
Accolades
In 2008, EZ Ride was presented with the Outstanding Transportation Management Association (TMA) Award by the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT). The award is presented to the TMA that best uses its public/private partnerships to achieve local or regional transportation goals. The Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) recognized EZ Ride as the 2013 Urban Community Transportation System of the Year. Created in 2010 in response to the economic recession, ELEC brought together IUOE Operating Engineers Local 825 and its union contractors in a labor-management organization to pursue mutually beneficial objectives. These included: promoting the benefits of Union Labor; encouraging our Operating Engineers to obtain and maintain certifications and credentials through a member-reimbursement program; and partnering with private developers to advocate for economic development projects. In 2014 ELEC launched a contractor toolkit and grant program to help its signatory contractors compete in markets in which union labor was under-represented. In 2016, ELEC’s Road to Repair consumer campaign successfully advocated for the Transportation Trust Fund’s (TTF’s) renewal and constitutional dedication. In 2017, ELEC expanded Road to Repair’s focus, advocating for all types of infrastructure, including water/ sewer and energy. We have already seen success in advocating for the Water Quality Accountability Act, which became law in July 2017.
Business Goals & Objectives
Building on its successful track record of infrastructure advocacy, ELEC remains focused on educating the public and decision makers on the importance of investing in infrastructure. That’s why we continue to advocate for Federal funding for combined sewer overflow systems and the Gateway Tunnel. And we educate the public about the need for a diverse energy mix, which includes natural gas pipelines throughout New Jersey and New York state. ELEC works through collaboration with trade associations, chambers of commerce, business coalitions and other labor organizations.

What We Do
For today’s coaches, consultants, authors, speakers and other authority brands, competition is fierce in every niche imaginable. And that means that it’s harder than ever to stand out as a credible authority—let alone climb to the top! Most of them struggle to get noticed at all. Many give up on their dreams of creating the impact they want and the income they deserve simply because they cannot attract the right clients and build the audience they need to create a mass movement. We’re laser focused on helping authority brands and driven, passionate coaches and consultants develop high-impact branding that sets them apart from the crowd. W
illiam C. Sullivan, Jr., or “Bill” as his friends and colleagues call him, is a valued member of both Scarinci Hollenbeck’s Environmental & Land Use Section and the Meadowlands Chamber’s Board of Advisors. Mr. Sullivan actively participates in and lends his expertise to the Chamber’s extensive efforts in promoting economic development, regulatory efficiency and environmental protection in the Meadowlands. He serves on the Chamber’s Transportation Committee and the Governance and Legal Affairs Committee. He is also the immediate past Chair of the Environmental Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association. “Bill is an incredible asset to our organization as he always brings great expertise regarding the critical issues we address and advocate for on behalf of our membership,” says Meadowlands Chamber President & CEO Jim Kirkos. “Besides his intellect, he is a really good guy!” However, Mr. Sullivan’s relationship with the region is not limited to his contri-

butions to the Meadowlands Chamber. During the last fifteen years, Bill has been extensively involved in the redevelopment of the Meadowlands region, as the dramatic economic shifts during that period altered development in the region. As developers adjusted their plans in the face of global market forces, their needs for attorney services shifted as well, increasing the demand for attorneys to broaden areas of expertise and anticipate community and regulatory agency reaction to development initiatives. Mr. Sullivan has participated in these evolving market trends by representing developers in some of the most significant development and redevelopment projects throughout the region. Some of these projects include the Harrison Avenue Walmart redevelopment, the Hudson Transmission Partners electric power converter station and transmission project, the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center, the transportation improvements associated with American Dream, multiple warehouse and retail projects,

and currently pending solar farm and hotel projects and expanded parking facilities. At Scarinci Hollenbeck, Mr. Sullivan concentrates his practice in the areas of environmental law, land use law, redevelopment law and renewable energy law. His practice includes the representation of clients in a wide variety of land use and redevelopment projects, energy infrastructure projects, environmental permitting and compliance, site remediation and related litigation. Throughout the span of his more than thirty-year career, Mr. Sullivan’s practice has covered the full range of environmental and land use law, including toxic tort litigation, land use development, transportation law, representation of environmental advocacy organizations, land use development, contaminated site remediation, and environmental insurance coverage litigation. Mr. Sullivan’s broad range of abilities and experience has enabled him not only to provide high quality, comprehensive legal services in often complex development scenarios, but to also establish himself as a prominent figure in the Meadowlands region. Additionally, Mr. Sullivan has specialized expertise related to projects subject to the land use permitting jurisdiction of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (formerly the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission), which controls the development of property in all or portions of the fourteen municipalities in the Meadowlands region. His knowledge of this regulatory regime and the municipalities subject to it has been of great value in servicing developers in key commercial and industrial projects being constructed in the region. As Bill explains, “Property development in the Meadowlands presents unique environmental and regulatory complexities, but it also presents great opportunities because of its strong business community, high quality infrastructure and educated, dedicated workforce.”
The future is bright for those seeking business opportunities in the Meadowlands region. It is likely that Mr. Sullivan and Scarinci Hollenbeck will be involved in shaping that future.

The Office Space Revolution
Experts weigh in on how new trends are challenging the traditional work environment
T
he way we work is rapidly changing, and, not surprisingly, the offices we work in are rapidly evolving to accommodate those developments. Technology, social changes and industry sector growth are all factors in how the traditional work environment is being challenged. Trends in office space size and configuration undoubtedly will affect office leasing and sales so—as a real estate team that wants to help clients find the best home for their business—we are clearly very interested in what trends are emerging. In this article we take a look at some of the “must haves” that we are noticing our clients gravitate toward in their office space searches—and have also invited some other local experts to provide feedback on the growing trends. Technology Integration Of course the office space has always been impacted by technology. But, as previously referenced, now it is imperative that an office space directly accommodate the current solutions as well as future ones. Technology can now be integrated into almost every square foot of a new or repurposed workplace environment. The key is to first understand exactly how a space and the employees within it will need to use the space—and what technology is required. This will allow for the incorporation of reliable technology early on in the building or renovation process while also providing accommodations for new technology in the future. 38 MEADOWLANDS USA
meadowlandsusa.com OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2018
“Being able to seamlessly integrate technology solutions into a space is crucial. In today’s workplaces, everything needs to be connected and controllable as part of the ‘internet of things.’ The key is to connect people to space and technology in a way that maximizes effectiveness.” George Meglio Director, Workplace Technology | dancker | dancker.com
Flexible Office Space Technology is allowing us to work remotely and the expectation is now to be able to connect to the office anytime from anywhere. The modern work place must offer this flexibility and efficiency in order to keep up. But flexibility should be there even when employees are physically in the office. The distinguishing feature of a flexible office space is that it is unconfined. Flexible office spaces enable employees to change working environments throughout the day depending on the task at hand instead of being restricted to their desk or cubicle all day long. The result is enhanced productivity and efficiency.
“Companies must operate with speed and precision to succeed in our fast-paced marketplace. This requires an agile approach, and the physical space where a company operates has to be equally dynamic. Today’s workplaces need to be efficient and flexible to allow people to work in different places, in different ways. With most companies employing people from five different generations, it’s critical that their space offer ways for their diverse employees to work together. Successful companies are redesigning and renovating their spaces in order to empower collaboration and connection and multiple modes of work by integrating technology and modular construction elements in various settings.” Chris Perruna VP, Architectural and Modular Construction Solutions dancker | dancker.com
Collaborative Working Spaces Collaboration is an integral part of any company and, for years now, we’ve noticed companies embrace the younger generation’s proclivity for collaborative spaces. Having office layouts that encourage and facilitate collaboration makes sense.
“Today’s work spaces need to engage a workforce that is demanding a different environment than traditional office spaces. A collaborative work space needs to support different ways of working and offer a variety of spaces to support both working alone and in collaboration with others. Our clients are creating environments that are destinations their people want to work in and that help them be more productive. From quiet rooms to technology rich huddle spaces, we’re helping to create environments that are dynamic and inspiring spaces.” Kevin Klier Senior EVP and General Manager dancker | dancker.com

“We are currently working with several clients that are realizing the need to break down the barriers of the traditional office space. They want to remove the old high walled cubicles and the closed off offices and replace them with new open collaborative workspaces with lots of natural light. Companies are finding that traditional work environment is not conducive to the way people actually work. These new workspace breaks down the barriers between the traditional office hierarchy and helps to promote a more team-oriented approach which can also increase productivity.” Anthony Guzzo President | Guzzo + Guzzo | gg-architect.com Furniture Is Keeping Pace With the arrival of the collaborative workplace trend, it is not surprising that we are seeing an uptick in collaborative furniture items to choose from.
“The furniture world has grown to great lengths to provide employees with a dynamic office environment catered to their needs. Modular privacy booths keep conversations private when necessary while working in an open office setting. Sit to stand desks give you the flexibility to stretch your legs and move around while still staying focused on your work. Some offices don’t have the real estate for standard seating so adding a little color and a soft, comfortable stool-like seat can make any area in the office a collaborative one.” Anthony Battaglia Business Development KAD Associates | kad-associates.com

“There are some great new products emerging that really embrace the collaborative and team approach. The furniture industry has really responded with a variety of creative options such as prefabricated office pods, writable glass wall surfaces, group seating pods with privacy backs and canopies, multi-functional seating with power outlets and fold away work tops and small phone booth rooms for cell phone privacy.” Anthony Guzzo President | Guzzo + Guzzo | gg-architect.com
Multi-Generational Workforce A major social change we’ve seen in recent years is that, as people live longer and choose to stay in the workforce longer, the workplace is more multi-generational than ever before. This can require the accommodation of many different types of working styles so that has to be kept in mind when outfitting an office space. Some workplaces struggle to appeal to younger workers. Others may struggle to make accommodations for workers with more traditional working styles.
“One of the biggest challenges we’re asked to help our clients overcome is the multi-generation workplace. A recent college graduate communicates differently from a baby boomer. Figuring out the right solution that helps those generations (and everyone in between) work side-by-side requires a collaborative approach.” George Meglio Director, Workplace Technology | dancker | dancker.com 40 MEADOWLANDS USA
“These new work environments can also be used to attract new employees who see the benefit of working in collaborative spaces over the conventional work environments. Younger employees are already learning and living in these types of settings, so this approach is consistent and familiar with how they interact.” Anthony Guzzo President | Guzzo + Guzzo | gg-architect.com Addressing Challenges With Noise & Privacy Collaboration is great—and often necessary—but it does not always work well for every person or every function. Sometimes privacy is needed. With that, more companies are examining acoustics and trying to control how sound travels through their space. Carpeting is an age old solution but it is just one remedy and not everyone wants carpeted spaces. Furniture and plants can also absorb some ambient sounds but there are more emerging technologies out there that can address this challenge.
“Open office environments come with its challenges. Controlling noise and maintaining speech privacy when several different activities are taking place at one time is difficult and seems to be the biggest issue. We recommend working with the design professionals early in the process as the best solution to avoid costly corrective measures in the future. Architects and acoustical consultants can recognize and incorporate different types of construction methods to minimize potential noise problems. Beyond acoustical treatments,

noise cancellation systems can be incorporated to help maintain speech privacy when several different conversations are going on at once. These systems can be incorporated in new and existing spaces and controlled based on the level of noise and activity in the space.” Anthony Guzzo President | Guzzo + Guzzo | gg-architect.com “There are some great new products emerging that really embrace the collaborative and team approach. The furniture industry has really responded with a variety of creative options such as prefabricated office pods, writable glass wall surfaces, group seating pods with privacy backs and canopies, multi-functional seating with power outlets and fold away work tops, and small phone booth rooms for cell phone privacy.” Anthony Battaglia Business Development | KAD Associates | kad-associates.com Building Brand Awareness & Experience Ideally an office space reflects an organization’s branding and delivers a cohesive message to everyone who walks into the space, whether they are employees, partners or clients. Through the use of design
elements, signage, finishes and artwork, organizations can set an ideal visual experience that raises brand awareness and gives meaning to the space.
“Generally speaking, in response to today’s team oriented/flexible office design and shared work spaces, architectural signage needs to be inherently flexible and changeable. To that end we are also seeing more digital/ interactive signage used in applications where static signage has traditionally been used.” Danijel K. Farkas Partner | Designer Sign Systems, LLC | dss-nj.com Improvements In Exchange For Longer Leases As buildings age, the office spaces within are less likely to be equipped to accommodate these evolving workplace trends so some landlords are finding
dancker
themselves at a disadvantage when it comes to marketing their properties. However, we are noticing a growing trend where landlords are pursuing major renovations to facilities when clients are willing to enter into longer term leases. As evidenced by our recent $6 million lease with Sanitas Medical Center at Kennedy Center located on JFK Blvd. in Union City, some clients, particularly in the healthcare industry, are looking for substantial landlord improvement packages and in turn are prepared to enter into long term commitments. This trend will undoubtedly improve the inventory of office space in the Meadowlands and lend to further stability of the region’s office market.

Reducing Workplace Illness
Quest Diagnostics study suggests employer wellness programs are effective
E
mployer wellness programs that combine laboratory and biometric screening with digital behavioral counseling can significantly reduce employees’ risk of developing chronic conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, according to new research from Quest Diagnostics (NYSE: DGX), the world’s leading provider of diagnostic information services. The data was presented at the 78th American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) Scientific Sessions in Orlando. The analysis examined three years of de-identified laboratory and biometric test results for at-risk employees and spouses or partners enrolled in an employer-sponsored wellness program who also participated in a digital intervention program. Following the program, one third (32 percent) of participants whose initial tests results showed evidence of prediabetes (fasting glucose (FG) 100-125 mg/dL or hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) 5.7-6.4 percent) or diabetes (FG ≥126mg/dL or HbA1c ≥6.5 percent), achieved normal blood levels. Twenty-nine percent of individuals lost five percent or more of body weight. As well as reductions in levels of FG and HbA1c, other improvements included a significant drop in triglycerides, a maker of heart disease risk and a reduction in the
42 MEADOWLANDS USA
ten-year risk of developing cardiovascular disease. U.S. employers currently provide health insurance to an estimated 153 million employees and absorb most of the associated costs for employees’ care. “Many employers are eager to implement employee wellness programs that drive better health and cost outcomes, but are unsure of how best to achieve these goals. This study demonstrates a viable two-step solution – identifying people at higher risk using objective lab and biometric measures and then supporting their access to programs to modify behaviors and thereby reduce those risks,” said lead researcher Charles E. Birse, PhD, Scientific Director, Quest Diagnostics. The cohort of 107 at-risk individuals participated in a 16-week digital Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) focused on education and behavior modification offered by Omada Health, a digital behavioral medicine company focused on chronic disease prevention, through a collaboration with Quest Diagnostics. In May 2018, Omada Health’s Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) achieved full recognition status from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) after meeting rigorous quality and evidence criteria. Chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease are major drivers in year-

over-year increases in employee health benefit costs, which increased 24 percent between 2001 and 2015, and are estimated to increase up to 6.5 percent in 2018, according to a 2017 analysis by Willis Towers Watson. “Workplace wellness programs are the oly meaningful interaction many people have with the healthcare system, but it’s the employers who foot most of the bill for care costs,” said Jay Wohlgemuth, MD, senior vice president and chief medical officer, Quest Diagnostics. “This study demonstrates that a population management strategy that combines screening with targeted intervention can meaningfully improve health outcomes and, ultimately, lower costs for employers and their employees.” Heart disease and diabetes are two of the most prevalent chronic conditions. According to the CDC, more than 80 million Americans have pre-diabetes; about 25 percent develop Type 2 diabetes within five years. Heart disease is responsible for one in four deaths in the United States. Quest Diagnostics is a leader in Health and Wellness services that improve outcomes and costs for employers and their employees. The company combines data-driven population management based on its proprietary Blueprint for Wellness® laboratory and biometric screening with integrated access to intervention providers, supporting employees’ on the continuum of care to better health. A Leader In Tackling Opioid Epidemic
Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey’s efforts spurring a dramatic reduction in opioid abuse
H
orizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) recently released a report demonstrating that the company is a national leader when it comes to preventing, combating and treating opioid abuse. The company reported that the programs it developed over the past several years collaborating with prescribers, pharmacies and patients spurred a dramatic reduction in the number of opioid prescriptions dispensed between 2013 and 2017 and the highest rate of compliance with CDC-recommended dose and duration guidelines among all Blue Cross Blue Shield plans nationally. The company also reported a 350 percent increase in spending to treat opioid use disorder during that time period underscoring its commitment to helping members get the care they need. The announcement comes on the heels of a report citing data from the NJ
44 MEADOWLANDS USA
Attorney General’s Office indicating that the state is on a pace to reach or exceed 3,000 opioid-related deaths by the end of the year, which would represent an increase of one-third over 2016. Earlier this year, the company announced that over the next five years it would invest $125 million it expects in refunds resulting from federal tax reform in significant initiatives that will drive improvements in health care in several areas, including behavioral health, substance abuse prevention and addiction and recovery. The company launched its first program to stem prescription drug abuse in 1999. The report, examining four years of medical and prescription claim data, also found: • Horizon BCBSNJ commercially insured members filling at least one opioid prescription annually dropped by 28 perecent bettering

the 25 percent reduction reporteded nationally by all Blue Cross Blue Shield plans over the same period; • Sixty-two percent of Horizon BCBSNJ commercially insured members’ cumulative opioid use in 2017 was within the CDC-recommended dose and duration guidelines up from up from 55 percent in 2013- the highest nationally among all Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. • In 2016, opioid use disorder (OUD) among commercially insured members peaked with slightly more than 7 in 1,000 members diagnosed. This diagnosis rate remained stable in 2017. “It takes a comprehensive, integrated strategy to tackle an epidemic as complex as opioid addiction,” said Allen Karp, Executive Vice President for Healthcare and Transformation for Horizon BCBSNJ. “That’s why Horizon’s response to
the opioid crisis is far-reaching and encompasses three key areas: Education and Prevention, Treatment and Recovery, and Community Outreach. We are increasing our investment and building strategic, collaborative partnerships in every area to help our members.” Increased treatment and recovery are a major component of Horizon BCBSNJ’s multi-faceted efforts. The company has piloted programs funding recovery and peer support specialists in hospital ER’s to connect patients with substance abuse problems to treatment, developed an innovated episode of care program for Substance Use Disorders, and expanded access to behavioral health and substance abuse providers. Furthering its longstanding commitment to combat New Jersey’s opioid crisis, in November 2017, Horizon BCBSNJ signed on to Shatterproof ’s national coalition of 16 health insurance companies agreeing to adopt eight “National Principles of Care” for the treatment of addiction that will improve outcomes and save lives.
“By leveraging best-practice education and preventive interventions that target at-risk members and prescribers, Horizon has been able to identify, intervene and prevent the abuse of opioids. We use advanced analytics to better understand what is happening and to stop or prevent abuse,” said Dr. Tom Graf, Chief Medical Officer for Horizon BCBSNJ. These programs include: • The Opioid Alert Program, in which members who meet high thresholds of morphine equivalent dose of opioids are identified and are referred to Horizon’s Behavioral Health or case management program for intervention when appropriate. • Pharmacy Lock-in Program, in which members are identified as high-risk for abuse based on the number of duplicate fills for opioid prescriptions at multiple pharmacies, and limits those identified to filling their prescriptions at a single pharmacy. In 2016 alone, Horizon reached out to 12,000 Medicaid

members through this program to reduce opioid use prescriptions by 37 percent. • Prescriber Initiatives. The program focuses on educating prescribers on how to reduce high-risk behaviors, reduce morphine equivalent dose, access a prescription monitoring program database, and identify high-risk member behaviors. Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, the state’s oldest and largest health insurer is a tax-paying, not-for-profit health service corporation, providing a wide array of medical, dental, vision and prescription insurance products and services. Horizon BCBSNJ is leading the transformation of health care in New Jersey by working with doctors and hospitals to deliver innovative, patient-centered programs that reward the quality, not quantity, of care patients receive.
