The Helicopter Company celebrates delivery of 40th Leonardo AW139 helicopter Milestone reinforces THC’s position as one of the world’s largest AW139 operators

ne of the leading commercial helicopter operators in Saudi Arabia, The Helicopter Company (THC), a Public Investment Fund (PIF) company, celebrated the delivery of its 40th Leonardo AW139 helicopter during a ceremony held in Rome recently. The delivery marks another chapter in the longstanding partnership between THC and Leonardo, reflecting the significant growth of THC’s operations since its establishment in 2018. During the ceremony, executives from both organizations highlighted the success of their collaboration in supporting the development of world-class rotary-wing

capabilities in the Kingdom and advancing critical aviation services across Saudi Arabia. The aircraft will join THC’s fleet supporting a broad range of missions across the Kingdom, including emergency medical services (EMS), corporate transport, tourism, aerial work, and other specialized operations. The event was attended by Raid Ismail, Chairman of The Helicopter Company; Muhammad Ovais Yousuf, Head of Aviation and Security Sector at MENA Investments in PIF; and Captain Arnaud Martinez, Chief Executive Officer of The Helicopter Company, along with senior executives from Leonardo Helicopters,

including Gian Piero Cutillo, Co-General Manager of Leonardo and Managing Director of Leonardo Helicopters, Giovanni Cecchelli, SVP Programs, and Giacomo Zampetti, VP Marketing. Boeing supports Nigeria’s aviation growth through advanced engineer training program Sixteen engineers from United Nigeria and ValueJet to receive 737 Next-Generation systems training in Lagos

ne of the world’s leading aerospace companies, Boeing has launched an advanced technical training program in Lagos for Nigerian airline engineers as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing aviation safety, improving operational readiness, and supporting workforce development across Africa. The training program, running from June 16 to July 29, will provide specialized technical instruction to 16 engineers from Nigerian carriers United Nigeria Airlines and ValueJet. The initiative is designed to strengthen local aviation maintenance capabilities while supporting the long-term growth of Nigeria’s aviation workforce. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) theoretical training certificates, validating their knowledge in line with internationally recognized aviation maintenance standards. A second phase of the program is scheduled for later this year to extend training opportunities to additional personnel. The curriculum is designed to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of the Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft and its major technical systems. Training modules will cover avionics, airframe systems, powerplant operations and electrical systems, enabling participants to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical awareness of aircraft maintenance requirements. Participants will also receive instruction on aircraft characteristics, system functionality, component identification and location, servicing procedures, maintenance connections, system indications and testing processes. In addition, the program emphasizes ramp and transit maintenance practices that support commercial airplane dispatch reliability and improve operational efficiency. Through these sessions, engineers will gain practical insight into maintaining aircraft readiness and minimizing operational disruptions.

By integrating technical competence with safety culture and regulatory compliance, the initiative aims to enhance maintenance quality and strengthen operational standards across participating airlines. The training initiative stems from a 2024 memorandum of understanding between Boeing and Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development. The agreement was established to advance Nigeria’s aviation sector through technical collaboration, knowledge transfer and capacity-building initiatives designed to support industry growth and improve technical expertise across the country. “Investing in technical capability and safety
