Exploring Saudi Arabia’s Rich Culinary Heritage

FLAVORS OF TRADITION

Dive into the tantalizing world of Saudi traditional cuisine, where centuries-old recipes and cultural influences converge to create a culinary tapestry as rich and diverse as the kingdom itself From hearty stews simmered over open fires to delicate pastries perfumed with aromatic spices, Saudi cuisine offers a sensory journey through history and tradition

Kabsa – A National Dish:

Kabsa is a rice dish that has been influenced by Indian and Persian biryanis. It requires making stock by cooking fish or meat along with rice and spices in water. People often use lamb, shrimps, chicken, camel and fish meat to prepare the dish. The dish is served piping hot on a large platter with salad.

Harees – A Wheat & Meat Dish:

The dish consists of meat and coarse wheat The dish originated in Saudi Arabia and spread widely in Middle East and rest parts of the world. Over the time people have experimented with the authentic ingredients and recipe, cooking it in a few different ways and giving it various names.

Named Saudi’s national dessert in January 2023, these buckwheat pan bites called Maqshush are sweet balls of dough, infused with a kick of cardamom and are baked, after four hours of resting. Topped with ghee, honey, date molasses or sugar they are popular during winters and are served for breakfast and during Ramadan.

Maamoul is a sweet dish consisting juicy fruits and nuts like pistachios, dates and walnuts. The cookies are made in the shape of domes and prepared for special occasions and festivals. People often top them with powdered sugar and serve with coffee and tea in many households.

Luqaimat are little dumplings of deliciousness often thought of as Arabic doughnuts While nothing fancy – from a presentation point of view they are simple, golden fried balls covered heavily in date syrup – what they lack in looks they make up for in taste, boasting a crisp outside later and soft, fluffy centre.
