Bringing p ra ctica l p rep a redness a dvice to M innedosa Knowing where to turn for help and how to respond when an emergency strikes can make a difference for families and communities. Minnedosa’s Essential Social Services team is hosting Community Safety Awareness Day on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Minnedosa Community Conference Centre. The event will bring residents of Minnedosa and surrounding communities together with safety
professionals, emergency responders and community organizations to learn about emergency preparedness and local resources. Topics will include fire safety, personal safety, mental health and hunter safety. Visitors will have opportunities to ask questions, learn practical safety tips and connect with people and organizations involved in supporting community safety. Minnedosa’s experiences with flooding, severe weather and
other emergencies have demonstrated the importance of preparation and cooperation. Organizers hope the event will help residents better understand what they can do before an unexpected situation arises. “This is a great opportunity for residents to come together, ask questions and learn practical steps that can make a difference when it matters most,” said Lorna Hislop of Minnedosa Essential Social Services.
Children will also have opportunities to participate. Young visitors are invited to bring a favourite stuffed animal and practise simple first aid, helping make learning about safety approachable and engaging. The local Lions Club will offer child fingerprinting and Child ID kits. The kits allow parents and guardians to record and securely store identifying information about their children should it ever be needed.
