Neil Armstrong was among the volunteers to lend a hand cooking up piping hot pancakes served to a long line of supporters of the Minnedosa Ag. Society’s fundraising day of activities on Saturday, May 16. The community-enriching day also included an indoor spring market and a tack sale, showcasing a wide variety of items. Despite a light dusting of snow, the chill didn’t damper the spirit and fellowship seen that day, nor the Manitoba Chore Team Challenge.

As the prairie landscape slowly shifts from brown to green and temperatures finally begin to cooperate, signs of spring activity are appearing across Minnedosa and the surrounding region –from shoots, flowers, trail race sign ups, lake recreation to garage sales, scholarships, livestock calving, and various community events.
At Squirrel Hills Trail Park, preparations are ramping up for another busy outdoor season. Volunteers recently gathered to help spread compost ahead of hydroseeding work at the expanding
trail facility, with Valley Life Recreation thanking the 18 volunteers who came out to assist. The organization has also confirmed that the trail system is now fully open, with dry conditions already creating dusty sections on some trails.
Excitement is also building around the upcoming Squirrel
Chaser cross-country mountain bike race scheduled for May 24 at Squirrel Hills Trail Park. Early registration is now open for the event, which continues to attract riders from across Manitoba and beyond.
Meanwhile, Valley Life Recreation’s popular Flying Acorn trail race continues to grow in reputa-
tion and reach. Organizers recently noted participants are already registered from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec and across Manitoba, with numbers reportedly already more than halfway to a sellout months before race day.
