Convention Seminars Seminar #1- Are You Prepared For A Disaster?
Disaster just struck your facility and half of your building has been destroyed by fire. But you have a good insurance policy with replacement cost coverage so everything will be taken care of, right? Well, maybe…….. The insurance company sent their adjuster and he arrived with an army of equipment experts, building contractors, forensic accountants and other experts. They are all there to help you get your operation rebuilt and back to normal, right? Well, maybe…… Your insurance agent, accountant and lawyer can all help you with your insurance claim and look after your interests, right? Well, maybe…… What you don’t know can hurt you. Property insurance claims are not as straightforward as they may appear. And insurance companies aren’t necessarily your “good neighbor” when disaster strikes. Any good business has prepared a disaster plan to protect their employees and assets during an emergency. That plan should also include an understanding on how your insurance policy will pay your claim and what you need to know to protect your financial interests. Neal Novak, Regional Vice President of the Alex N. Sill Company, has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry. His company exclusively represents the policyholder in property and business interruption claims. He is a veteran of disasters such as Hurricanes Andrew and Katrina, the Great Flood of 1993 and many other catastrophes. Join us as he shares his extensive knowledge and great advice on how you can avoid the common errors that business owners make with insurance companies and have a successful outcome with your claim. Presenter: John Taucher, Portage Packaging Neal J. Novak, Regional Vice President Alex N. Sill Company North America’s Leading Firm of Loss Consultants & Appraisers
Seminar #2 – Joint Venture Standards & Procedures Panel Discussion
When should a joint venture machine be paid for? What are acceptable expenses? What rate should be used for cleaning versus repairing? Is a salesperson’s commission a shared expense? Should overhead be part of the expenses? Should the partner know who the machine was sold to? This open forum discussion, led by Joe Lundvick, CEA Perfection Global LLC, Jack Boecher, AEA, Raco Industrial Corp., Paul Lashin, Prestige Equipment, and Troy Clark, Clark Machinery Sales.
Seminar #3 – Exporting and U.S. Government Help • • • • •
What’s the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service (US&FCS)? What does the US&FCS do? What’s the role of a U.S. Export Assistance Center? What are some other U.S. Government agencies that may be able to help MDNA Members to export and what do they do (EXIM Bank and SBA)? What are some things to keep in mind in export planning, such as export compliance or Total Landed Cost?
Presenter: Kenneth R. Mouradian Director, Orlando U.S. Export Assistance Center U.S. Commercial Service Orlando U.S. Department of Commerce | International Trade Administration

January 2017 Board Report Highlights Public Relations
Chairman Ed Krause reported that the PR Committee will be producing a new video to promote MDNA. They are creating a couple of new programs to increase traffic to the MDNA website. The first program is "The Promotion of Member Machinery" where every week the MDNA website will feature a machine and or service from a different member company. Secondly, they are creating a contest to enhance interaction with members where the member will be asked to submit a photo of the oldest piece of machinery in their warehouse and other members will try to identify it. Mr. Krause asked members when posting machinery on Facebook to tag MDNA and our PR staff will blast these out. He noted currently the Constant Contact open rate is 34% which is exceptionally high.
Treasurer’s Report
The Treasurer's Report was approved as presented. Additionally, the 2018 Budget was approved as presented.
Nominating Committee
Chairman Paul Lashin stated that the National Nominating Committee will meet during the 2017 MDNA Convention to nominate candidates for national office and for the at-large director positions that will become open this year. Chapter chairmen are required to name delegates and alternates to the Committee. Each chapter is responsible for selecting an active chapter member to serve on the National Nominating Committee, and the name of that person must be reported to MDNA Headquarters.
Convention
Chairman John Conroy reported that there is a lot of enthusiasm surrounding the Convention. He thanked committee members for all their help. The special negotiated MDNA group room rate is $239 per night. This is a substantial savings compared to the standard rack rate of $478 per night during the same time frame. The discounted room rate is available three days before and three days after Convention. But this offer is based on room availably and is not guaranteed, so all were encouraged to book early. Mr. Conroy also reported that there are no resort fees and free Wi-Fi. Additionally, he reported that there is a free airport shuttle. “Disney’s Magical Express” includes airport transportation for all guests and luggage service. Disney will pick up your bags upon your arrival at the Orlando Airport and deliver them to your room at the resort, saving you from the hassle of retrieving them from baggage claim. He noted that in order to take advantage of Disney’s Magical Express attendees must sign up at least 30 days in advance of arrival and Disney stated that it can take several hours for your bags to be delivered to your room. So, attendees using the service should be prepared by bringing a carry-on bag with essentials.
MDNA Auction Platform
Immediate Past President Ron Shuster gave an update on the MDNA Auction Partnership with Liquidity Services. He reported that in 2016 the total assets sold were just under $100,000 with total commission payable to MDNA of $3,900. Since the inception of the program, it has brought in non-dues revenue of approximately $10,000. He suggested Chapter Representatives encourage their members to take advantage of this member benefit.
Seminars
First Vice President Joe Lundvick reported that he is working on seminars for the convention. No specifics are available at this time. WWTP will be held in the fall in Detroit.
AMEA
First Vice President Randy Koster reported in the absence of President Jack Mendenhall. He reported that AMEA finances are stable. There were six new members that joined and 10 resignations. They have a great Appraisers' Forum and USPAP Course planned for March 16-17 at Raco Industrial Corp. He encouraged all members to attend. They are planning a fun and educational program for the Convention.
LOCATOR Services, Inc.
President Brian Epstein reported that LOCATOR is not just the book it has the CIMS database, numerous online products and sends custom email blasts to thousands of customers. There are 100,000 users that look for machines via the book and online. The book is drastically different this year from last year. It has a newly designed cover and a Dealer Specialty Section. This section focuses on a particular category or group of machines and feature content to educate end users. The basic concept behind our new product "The Brand Stamp" is to take the marketing format of the MDNA Buyer's Guide and apply it to the LOCATOR. The Brand Stamp allows the dealer a new way to let subscribers know the category(s) your company specializes in.
ADLSF
President Kristine Conroy reported that the major fundraiser for 2017 will be the raffle. Applications for scholarships will be going out in February. If there are any questions on the applications or the scholarships, feel free to contact her. She urges everyone who donates to establish a trust. She thanked the trustees for their hard work.
