ASpecialMessagefromtheMDNAPresident

To all my fellow MDNA members:

As the president of MDNA, I wanted reach out and say thank you for your past and continuing efforts to make our association incredibly awesome. Whenever we have asked for sponsorship to an MDNA or AMEA events you have responded tenfold. When Dan Wheeler –Wheeler Machinery opened his warehouse for the AMEA forum you not just attended, you showed up in mass. When we wanted to make the WWTP-Detroit/Toledo“supersized”, you came out in mass, and we broke the all-time attendance record at a WWTP.

It has been an incredible HONOR to serve as your MDNA President for the last year and half. The MDNA, Locator Services, AMEA Boards of Directors in conjunction with the Membership, Public Relations and Chapter Leadership Committees have worked extremely hard to make us top notch. We have tried to schedule meaningful and educational events for the membership to attend. Events that offered great opportunity to network and possibly make new business partners over a drink or two. My goal coming into office was to make the MDNA events whether local chapter meetings or national events, great, where everyone felt welcomed.

With just six months left in my term, I can guarantee the membership that we have the right folks in place to take the MDNA to even greater heights in the future! I do however have one more, big ask; In April at the MDNA Convention (if all goes as planned by the nominating committee), I will be handing my gavel to the new President Ed Krause. I am humbly asking all of you to consider attending the 2023 MDNA convention being held April 13th-16 in Tucson, AR. The event will be held at the beautiful J. W Marriott Star Pass Hotel & Spa. In addition to a changing of the guard the convention will include great networking and educational opportunities as well as a wonderful spouse event and plenty of social gatherings. Additionally, we will have a private evening at the Pima Air and Space Museum, which is one of the largest non-government funded aviation & space museums in the world! Saturday we will have our annual meeting, a fun golf tournament, with prizes and Saturday night we will have a black tie optional Presidential Reception and Banquet. I truly look forward to seeing as many of my MDNA family there.

Join me in making this the most well attended convention in modern MDNA history.

MDNA2023ConventionandBusinessMeeting

The 2023 MDNA Convention will be held at the beautiful J.W. Marriott Starr Pass Hotel & Spa in Tucson, Arizona. The dates of the convention are Thursday April 13 - Sunday April 16. Yes, these dates are a bit earlier than normal to allow for more comfortable temperatures.

This Four-Star resort is located in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains and just south of Saguaro National Park and is just 12 miles from Tucson International Airport. It features beautiful swimming pools, a lazy river, and three championship nine-hole golf courses - Coyote, Roadrunner and Rattler - designed by Arnold Palmer, Phil Mickelson, and Nancy Lopez. The quality and cleanliness of the guest rooms and meeting space are what you would expect from this top end J.W. Marriott brand. And best of all we have negotiated a $229 nightly room rate for MDNA Convention attendees, which is unheard of in this era of escalated hotel room rates.

The convention will feature many outdoor events including a Thursday afternoon surprise, a Thursday night welcome reception, a Friday spouse event and two full mornings of interactive programming. Friday evening will be a special off-site cocktail/hors-d'oeuvre reception at the Pima Air and Space Museum, which is part of the U.S. Air Force's famous "Boneyard", where hundreds of ghters, bombers and reconnaissance jets are stored in the dry Arizona climate for potential future use or just spare parts for aircraft currently on the line. We will have access to tour a part of this amazing facility in addition to the reception in the museum.

And, of course, Saturday will feature our Annual Meeting in the morning and our Black-Tie Optional gala, which will usher in our new President.

So come early, stay late, and bring the kids to this amazing part of the United States.

2022-2023RecipientsSpotlight

(left to right) Kim Khoury, CEA, Randy Stevens, CEA, Kristine M. Conroy (President), Jack Boecher, AM, Jeannine Harris, Michael F. Feinstein, CEA,

The Trustees of the Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Fund are proud to announce the scholarship recipients for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Your contributions to the Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Fund have helped to ease the nancial burdens of a college education for these students. Each student has directly bene tted from your contributions.

The recipients of your generosity often reach out to express their gratitude. I thought it important to take this opportunity to share just one example of the wonderful thank you notes that I receive, so, that you can see in the students’ own words the gratitude that they feel for receiving the bene ts of your donations. We appreciate your continued support, which makes this program something we can all be proud of. Thank you on behalf of the children who bene t, their parents who serve this industry, and the Trustees of the Austin D. Lucas Schol arship Fund.

We wish the students a successful and safe academic year.

I am sincerely honored to be a recipient of the Austin D. Lucas Scholarship. On behalf of all recipients, I want to thank all the donors for their generosity. With this endless support, we can continue our education without the huge fear of debt. Receiving this scholarship has impacted my college experience greatly. I can commit to my education without the thought of“how will I pay for it?”I can devote my time to internships and extra curriculums that can help me in my career. This fall, I will be a senior at Dominican University majoring in Natural science and Biology. I am very thankful because obtaining this scholarship has not only helped me with remission but has motivated me to maintain my spot on the dean's list these past 4 years. Next spring, I will be the rst in my family to graduate college, and soon, I will represent the 5% of Hispanic veterinarians. I know I speak for all recipients when I say that we are grateful and honored to represent MDNA with pride along with our achievements. I hope that when you see us strive, you chime in with our success. Thank you to MDNA for this opportunity and to all the donors who contributed to this useful fund.

Thank you, Brenda Diaz

Robert Atherton Memorial Trust Scholarship Recipient; Daniel Vlassov

My name is Daniel Vlassov, and I am a freshman at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I am honored to have received the Austin D. Lucas Scholarship this year. I would like to sincerely thank everyone at the Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Fund and MDNA for this award.

The Austin D. Lucas Scholarship allows me to pursue my goals and an Electrical Engineering degree with less nancial burden. It is a privilege that allows me to put even more time and discipline towards my academics. In the future I would love to work in either aerospace or the renewable energy sector. This generous scholarship has given me even more motivation to work hard and keep pushing through my course work - not only to graduate with a degree and honors but be able to fully apply what I learn to the real world.

I understand that the selection process was difficult as there were many other wonderful and equally deserving students, and for that I am overjoyed that I was chosen as a recipient. It means a lot to me that MDNA and the people at the Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Trust want me to continue my dedication and hard work. One day I plan to contribute and give back to the world and pass this opportunity along.
