A Note from the Director COMMUNITY: A feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing attitudes, interests, and goals. I am a huge Phillies fan. Since I am writing this before the 6th game of the NLDS I don’t know whether the Phillies have moved on to the World Series or not, but I want to talk about Topper. I love what Topper has done to create a sense of community with this Phillies team. This is the essential reason for their success. He has put talented players in positions to do what they do best. He supports his players when they are doing well, and when they are struggling. They have a common goal...The guys on the team care about each other, and lift each other up. Topper is my role model. I am proud of this community theater production. But even more, I love this community. •Harvey and Ilene who have been with me for every show from the beginning. Harvey builds amazing sets and can teach anyone to use a screwdriver. Ilene finds or creates the exact essential prop. •Michelle, Loretta and Janice who are there for every rehearsal and do all of the thankless jobs that no one else wants. •Elisabeth and Gail who spend hours researching and creating magnificent costumes so that every actor looks and feels in character. •Erin and Barb whose attention to musical detail elevates the show. •Becky whose choreography creates lovely stage pictures. •Mike, Dean, Emily, and Frank whose technical skills allow the audience to see and hear our theatrical efforts. •Ryan, a first time assistant director, whose creative contributions have been invaluable. •Aleeza for her artistic enhancement of the set. •All of the actors, musicians, and stage crew who have shared their talents and energies. Like Topper, I have been fortunate to surround myself with talented people, and encourage them to do what they do best. We all need a community. This is mine. I am Jewish. My boyfriend, Bentzie, is Israeli. During the casting process I received an anti-Semitic posting on our Facebook page. This was before October 7th. I have been so uplifted by the outpouring of love and support I have received from my MCT theater community in response to the posting, and the war in the Middle East. Ultimately, community is about love.

MEET THE CAST Tim April (Ensemble / Guard) Tim has been looking forward to this show since February! Previous roles include: Luther Kingsley/Werner Krieger in MCT’s City of Angels last spring, various ensemble/troupe parts in Something Rotten last fall with Willow Manor Players, Victor (and the Ape) in MCT’s Cabaret in 2021, various parts in the ensemble of MCT’s The Producers in 2014; and, with the King of Prussia Players, as the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz in 2013 and Fyedka in Fiddler on the Roof in 2012. Tim thanks his family for their support of his doing something he genuinely enjoys: Holly, his wife of 22 years, and their sons, Jonathan (18), and Sean (15).

Tyler Ball (Montague (Monty) Navarro) Tyler invites you to experience his life story as this delightful, albeit wickedly amusing, tale of ruthless ambition, bountiful love, and a touch of murder. With such contradictions, he is still hopeful in the end that his charm, wit, and cunning, will have you rooting for him in the aisles. As might be expected, he couldn’t hope to achieve such clever and grand scheming without the extraordinary talents of his fellow cast and crew, with whom he is quite honored to share the stage with. He implores you to remain calm, well hydrated and seated in an upright position through this thrilling journey that you won't likely soon forget. And of course, many thanks to his friends and family for their continued love and support!

Shirley Bonanni (Ensemble) Shirley is excited to be back on MCT's mainstage in her second MCT production after Matilda (Adult Ensemble). Shirley would like to thank the incredibly talented and welcoming cast and crew for this wonderful experience. She is so grateful for the encouragement from her family, especially Fabian, her husband, and their children, Logan (12) and Bella (9). Also, special thanks to friends, coworkers, and vocal coach, Heidi Hayes, for all their continued support!

MEET THE CAST Sean Brennan (Ensemble) Sean is thrilled to be in his second MCT show. He has had experience with a gentlemen guide before, but not to the extent that MCT is doing. He’s excited to be with returning castmates of City of Angels, and also excited to be with the talented people who he just met some short time ago. He would like to thank the production team for casting him in this show as well as his family for the constant support they give him.

Dani Cantor (Ensemble) As her surname suggests, Dani loves singing. In addition to seven previous MCT productions, she performs with the Philadelphia Chorus throughout the year. She would like to thank her furry sons, Oliver and Pippin, her family, and her friends for their support. Her favorite D'Ysquith family members are the bees.

Laura Donnelly (Sibella Hallward) Laura isn’t surprised to be cast once again as the object of everyone’s desires. Previous MCT roles include: Sally Bowles (Cabaret), Vibrata (Forum), and Eva Peron (Evita). Femme fatale and occasional French teacher, Laura enjoys telling people that her cat once went viral on TikTok. She would thank the cast, crew, and production team for the wonderful time putting this show together, but honestly feels like the pleasure has been all theirs.

MEET THE CAST Benjamin Fickinger (Tom Copley / Ensemble) Ben is excited to be back on-stage for his third appearance with MCT. He has previously been seen as Mr. Wormwood in Matilda: The Musical and as Joe Jenkins in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. In addition to theatre, Ben enjoys spending time with his cat, writing music, and solving crossword puzzles.

Noelle Joy Fiorentino (Miss Evangeline Barley / Ensemble) Noelle is excited to make her MCT debut singing in the rafters with this talented cast/crew! Noelle was last seen this past year as Miss Sandra in All Shook Up at Music Mountain Theatre and Doralee in 9 to 5 at Jenkintown Music Theatre. Other recent credits include: Petra in A Little Night Music (Playcrafters of Skippack), Daniela in In the Heights (MMT), Sleeping Beauty in Disenchanted (PCS), Elizabeth in Young Frankenstein (Town & Country) and Eve in Children of Eden (ETC). Much love to her family and friends for their constant support.

Aleeza Furman (Set Decorator / Ensemble) After catching the community theater bug doing MCT’s City of Angels this spring, Aleeza jumped at the chance to get involved with Gentleman’s Guide. This show is Aleeza’s second time on stage with MCT and her first as part of the set design team. When she’s not sculpting busts or wondering why all the D’Ysquiths are dying, she writes about lawyer stuff for a lawyer newspaper.

MEET THE CAST Troy Gartner (Ensemble) Troy is thrilled to be back for his second show at MCT this year. As a sophomore in high school, Troy commenced his tutelage with the Kim Russell Voice Studio, a privilege he continues to this day. Upon high school graduation, Troy matriculated at Millersville University, as a double major in Music Education and Voice Performance. Troy completed this nine-semester program in 2020, culminating in his graduation with two bachelor’s degrees. Afterward, Troy went back to his passion for theater and performing in multiple productions and cabarets. Previous roles include: Mr. Fezziwig in A Christmas Carol, A-Rab in West Side Story, and Moonface Martin in Anything Goes.

Lauren Grondel (Ensemble) Lauren is delighted to share the stage with so many good friends, as well as getting to make wonderful new ones! Previous credits include: City of Angels (Angel City 4), You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Frieda/Violin), and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Lt. Friedrich). Thank you to the fantastic production team and MCT. Lauren would also like to thank her family for their constant joy and excitement for her theater endeavors, especially Grandma.

Brett Kenna (Ensemble) Brett is honored to be part of this amazing cast of Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder here at MCT. Brett’s past theater experience includes: Oliver!, Cinderella, La Cage aux Folles, Anything Goes, The Wizard of Oz, A Year with Frog and Toad, Mary Poppins and City of Angels. Having classical vocal training from Mansfield University, Brett has also performed in several operas including: Die Zauberflote, La Boheme, Don Giovanni, Thais, and Orpheus in the Underworld. He also sang with three major choirs in Pittsburgh: the Mendelssohn, the Bach and the Renaissance City. Currently Brett sings with the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Philadelphia.

MEET THE CAST Maeve O’Brien (Ensemble) Maeve is excited to be part of another MCT production! She was recently seen in Matilda, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Twelfth Night. She was also the costume designer for Big Fish, How to Succeed, and First Date. She would like to thank her family and friends for their support and the cast and crew for all their hard work.

Ryan Polito (Ensemble) Ryan is excited to be back at MCT for his third show! Some of his favorite roles have been: Gabe (First Date), Arpad (She Loves Me), Young Scrooge (A Christmas Carol), and Jehan (Hunchback of Notre Dame). He would like to thank the cast and production team for making this show such an amazing experience.

Paul Recupero (D’Ysquith Family) Paul has had a little too much fun over the past few months juggling his multiple characters onstage, and his resulting identity crisis offstage. He'll be sending his therapy bills to the wonderful production team (to whom he is sincerely thankful for this unique opportunity). Paul directed City of Angels for MCT earlier this year, and now has the pleasure of performing alongside several of his talented cast as well as many other terrific actors. Paul is a lawyer and lead legal content editor for Helix Bar Review. "Much love to Brittany, who's put up with my recent personality shifts on a daily basis!"

MEET THE CAST Deb Schrager (Director / Miss Shingle)

Deb is always happy to be directing for MCT, her second home. Deb has previously directed: Into the Woods, Guys and Dolls, The Producers, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Evita, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, She Loves Me, and Cabaret for MCT. She has also directed for Jenkintown Music Theatre, Savoy Light Opera Company and others. Deb would like to thank her A-team: Ryan S, Harvey, Erin, Elisabeth, Gail, Michelle, Loretta, Janice, Barb, Becky, Ilene, Aleeza, Mike, Dean, Emily, Frank, Gabi, Christine and Ryan P. I would especially like to thank Ryan Simme for his help with the technical, logistical and creative aspects of the show. For someone who questioned whether he had anything to contribute, your contributions were invaluable, and I can’t imagine doing this show without your help. Can’t wait to see what you do next!

Evan Schwartz (Inspector / Ensemble) Evan dedicates his performance to his parents—who fearlessly took him to Broadway at age 6–7 to see shows like HAIR, 1776, and Man of La Mancha, and instilled in him a love of theatre and music. Also, to his sons—for whom he hopes he’s done the same. Recent/favorite roles: Buddy Fidler (MCT’s City of Angels), Man in Chair (The Drowsy Chaperone), Brother Jeremiah (Something Rotten), Otto Frank (Diary of Anne Frank), Billy Crocker (Anything Goes), MCT’s She Loves Me and It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play. When not “throwing the book” at someone on stage, Evan is selling them as the owner of Open Book Bookstore in Elkins Park. #ShopLocal #BanBookBans #FreedomToRead

Andrew Shepard (Ensemble) Andrew is originally from Rockland County NY, and has been living just outside of Philadelphia now for five years. He works as a Quality Assurance Software tester. When he isn’t working on software, he performs all over the area. Andrews favorite roles include: the Beast in Beauty and the Beast (Spotlight Theatre), Seymour Krelborn in Little Shop of Horrors (Barnstormers Theatre), Baby John and Action in West Side Story (Narberth Community Theatre and Footlighters Theatre), and Spongebob Squarepants in Spongebob Squarepants the Musical (Viviana Theatre). MCT was the very first group he performed with after moving to PA, and is very excited to be back having been away from the troupe since 2018. He feels extremely grateful to have performed alongside many wonderful actors, crew members and directors.

MEET THE CAST Alicia Simme (Phoebe D’Ysquith) Alicia is thrilled to return to the Shannondell stage in her 10th MCT show! During the day, Alicia is an elementary music teacher in the West Chester School District. Favorite past roles include: Something Rotten (Bea Bottom), Beauty & the Beast (Belle), & Into the Woods (Cinderella). Special thanks to Deb, Erin, and the entire production team (including her amazing husband Ryan) for this wonderful opportunity!

Michael Thompkins (Magistrate / Ensemble) Michael is excited about the mystery and hilarity of MCT’s A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder! Michael grew up performing in choirs, bands, and productions, though none have ever involved this much murder and scandal... it’s exhausting! Michael’s recent stage credits include: MCT’s Matilda (Miss Trunchbull), First Date (Reggie/Stoner Guy/Aaron’s Future Son), and Big Fish (Fisherman/General Patterson) as well as Ursinus College’s production of Sweat (Brucie). Michael’s theater inspiration is and will always be his parents who foster his creativity and love of the stage!

Judy Winship (Miss Eugenia / Ensemble) Judy feels lucky to be part of this production with this fun and talented cast. Two of Judy’s favorite MCT shows that she performed in were: The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Big Fish. She would like to thank her family for their love and support, and her dog Sawyer for running lines with her. Enjoy this funny show.

MEET THE PRODUCTION TEAM Mike Addice (Technical Director) Longtime member of MCT, Mike's introduction to community theater was onstage for Fiddler on the Roof. Mike has been part of many phases in his growth, and love of the theater as an actor, stage manager, set builder, lighting designer, and current Tech Chair at MCT. He had the opportunity to direct for the first time with a production of Wrong Window. He’s happy to be part of Deb’s team again, it’s always a pleasure.

Gail Cooper (Wig Design) Gail is a graduate of The University of California’s Theater Arts Program, and has been designing and assistant designing costumes for community theaters since her retirement. She works with The Savoy Company of Philadelphia and The Delaware Valley Opera Company, as well as, Methacton Community Theater. She will always jump at the opportunity to work with director, Deb Schrager, and costume designer for this show, Elizabeth Majewski.

Emily Cross (Sound Design / Operator) Emily is proud to be working on her 24th show with MCT. She has loved growing up in this wonderful organization, dipping her toes in all of the many roles theater has to offer. Throughout the years, she has performed, designed sound and lights, built sets, assisted with house, and been on stage crew. She is always happy to spend time with her MCT family (which often includes her actual family).

Elisabeth Majewski (Costumer) Elisabeth has designed costumes for a couple of shows, but the rich splendor of A Gentleman’s Guide has made it by far her favorite. For this production, she tried to stay true to the Edwardian fashion of the British upper class, and gave the bulk of her costumes a touch of sumptuous silk. Notice how it drapes and moves and shines? Sadly, how it wrinkles and frays and stains was just something she found out the hard way. It’s very likely we’ll see her working with only man-made fibers for future productions.

Michelle Miller (Producer) Michelle is always happy to produce with our excellent director, Deb Schrager, and this production staff. Special thanks to my co-producers for all their hard work. Michelle has been producing or appearing in shows for MCT since the early 1990’s.

Barbara Newberry (Orchestra Director) Barbara is a retired high school music teacher whose responsibilities included: directing the wind ensemble, concert and marching bands, pit orchestra, indoor guard, small ensembles, and teaching music theory and music appreciation. She is actively involved in local community theater either playing woodwind instruments in the pit orchestra, serving as music director and/or conducting. Additionally, Barbara continues to teach instrumental music in local school districts. Barbara’s passion for music is equaled by her husband Aaron who she met while playing in a pit orchestra!

MEET THE PRODUCTION TEAM Janice Orner (Producer / Stage Crew) A veteran of many shows in front of the lights, Janice is excited to be working behind the scenes with this fun and dedicated production team as one of the producers. Thank you for supporting the arts here at MCT and she hopes you enjoy the show!

Harvey Perelman (Set Design / Construction / Stage Manager) This is Harvey’s 10th year with MCT. He loves the challenges of designing and building the set, and managing backstage. Harvey enjoys designing and building sets for other productions including: meeting the artistic staff, and creating the look of the show. He also works with his local school district theater students teaching set construction and stage craft.

Ilene Perelman (Props / Stage Crew) This is Ilene’s 27th year participating in community theater and her 10th show with MCT. She has been the property mistress during that time as well as working on stage as part of the crew. She has acquired the props, and worked backstage for Narberth Community Theater, Jenkintown Music Theatre, and The Beth Sholom and Adath Jeshurun Player’s. Ilene loves working alongside her husband Harvey.

Frank Piper (Spotlight Operator) Frank’s 1994 stage debut in MCT’s Tom Sawyer proved that his singing and dancing were best done far from the audience. He’s been running an MCT spotlight for decades; credits include: City Of Angels, Cabaret, She Loves Me, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, and 1776. Frank is an old-school nerd who gets paid to fix computers and enjoys hanging out at science fiction conventions. He and his lovely wife, Laura, grow hot peppers, cook for fun, and love live music of all kinds. Best wishes to the cast and production team! Frank will be watching from the best seat in the house.

Loretta Rurode (Producer / Stage Crew) Loretta has done many things for MCT through the years. She started with MCT when her girls were young and they are approaching 40; so she has been around for a while. She is currently the chairperson of MCT’s Trivia Night. She loves working with this production team and thanks everyone for coming to the show.

Ryan Simme (Assistant Director / Projection Operator / Stage Crew) While normally onstage, Ryan is thrilled to join the production team for this show. He extends heartfelt gratitude to Deb Schrager for this incredible opportunity and acknowledges the invaluable support and mentorship provided by the rest of the production team. Special thanks to his loving wife Alicia for her unwavering support.

MEET THE PRODUCTION TEAM Erin Toscani (Music Director / Piano) Erin has served as Music Director, Vocal Director, Conductor, and Accompanist in 13 MCT shows over the past 11 years. Erin is an elementary school music teacher at Holy Child School at Rosemont, and mom to three beautiful children, ages 6, 8, and 11. Many, many thanks to Deb for the invitation to be a part of this wonderful team; to Barbara for being a great partner in crime; and to the cast, orchestra, and production team for being such a great group to work with. The biggest shout out to her husband, Peter, for holding down the fort at home while she pursues her happy place of being in the theater!

Dean Soltes (Lighting Designer / Operator) Dean splits his time between Pennsylvania and Florida where he is known for his pole dancing and enjoys being a gigolo for retirees.

Rebecca Yenser (Choreographer) Rebecca is happy to return for her twelfth show with MCT. She received her BA degree from Penn State University in Theatre/Dance Performance. Rebecca spends her free time doing escape rooms, playing board games, and cuddling with her kitties. She is grateful to work with this wonderful cast, crew, and production team. Rebecca would like to thank her husband, Dustin, for his continued and unwavering support.

Special Thanks

•The Delaware Valley Opera Company and the Savoy Company for the gracious use of their costumes and props. • A huge thank you to Lisa Gilmer for the drum set donation. • Thank you to Sue Carney for her sewing contributions. • Our original Miss Shingle, Shellie Camp. • John Gray for taking beautiful promotional photos during our tech week. • Players Club of Swarthmore, Playcrafters of Skippack, and Denise Kolodziej for the use of their dessert props. • Fred Majewski for the making of the suit of armor. • And as always, Shannondell, for the use of their gorgeous theater.
