SENTENCES A’deacon: ‘I am the resurrection and the life,’ says the Lord. ‘Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.’

John 11.25-26 I heard a voice from heaven saying, ‘Write this: Blessed are the dead who from now on die in the Lord.’ ‘Yes,’ says the Spirit, ‘they will rest from their labours.

Rev 14.13 Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a human being; for as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ. 1 Cor 15.20-22

PRAYERS A’deacon: Let us pray...

Heavenly Father, have compassion on those who are in sorrow; comfort them with the sense of your love; give them sure confidence and trust in your care, and make them to know that all things work together for good for those who love God. Amen.

Ever-living God, we remember those whom you have gathered from the storm of war into the peace of your presence; may that same peace calm our fears, bring justice to all peoples and establish harmony among the nations, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

ADDRESS BY THE ARCHDEACON COMMEMORATION OF THE CASTLE HILL WAR MEMORIAL A’deacon: Father of all, we bless your Holy Name for the memory of those whose names are inscribed upon this memorial, who, having fought a good fight, have finished their course. O Lord, crown the gift of their matchless courage with the gift of Eternal Peace, and grant that we, encouraged by their example and strengthened by their fellowship, may with them be brought to the inheritance of the Saints in Light, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Grant, O Lord God Almighty, that this memorial may stand upon this hill as a continued witness to the faith of the Gospel and to the power of your grace; that all those who pass by may be drawn nearer to you in faith and penitence and giving themselves afresh to your service, may go on their way rejoicing in the knowledge of your love, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY WAR God of refuge, the rock in whom we trust, watch over those affected by conflict in our world. Bring shelter to the displaced, healing to the injured and comfort to those who grieve. Open our hearts to your grace, so that we are filled with compassion and a generosity of spirit that will inspire us to take action until the whole world knows your peace. Amen.

FOR THE ARMED FORCES Almighty God, stretch forth your mighty arm to strengthen and protect the armed forces: grant that meeting danger with courange and all occasions with disipline and loyalty, they may truly serve the cause of justice and peace; to the honour of your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
