Stock your dam with native fi sh
It’s all in the name when it comes to Australian Fish Sales.

An indoor fi sh farm operating on the outskirts of Melbourne, Australian Fish Sales sells live native fi ngerlings throughout Victoria, NSW, the ACT and into South Australia. Owned and operated by Jason Buzzini, the company stocks silver perch, golden perch, Australian bass, Murray cod and tandanus catfi sh. “Our market focus is predominantly on stocking of private dams and to a lesser extent people wanting to stock their aquaponics and aquariums,” Mr Buzzini said. He said dams were largely an underutilised part of a property, and stocking them with fi sh provided some great ecological benefi ts to the dam — including mosquito and algae control. “Customers also buy them for recreational use. It’s great fun to fi sh them. “People have also started thinking of them as an alternative food source.” Once released the fi sh do not require any supplementary feeding as they will have a constant food source in the dam, he said. “The growth rate of the fi sh is from fi ngerling to a plate size in approximately two years.” Mr Buzzini sells his fi ngerlings in bulk — 100 fi sh per purchase. The amount of fi sh that you can stock in a dam without any additional infrastructure can be calculated by counting the number of steps around the circumference of the dam. One step equals one fi sh. “We do sell them in smaller quantities, but the bulk buy is the best value,” he said. The species Australian Fish Sales stock are suitable for almost all dams but there are considerations for what species is best for you and your area. Mr Buzzini is happy to talk you through those considerations. The new season has just commenced, so order now to secure your delivery in January. For more information visit:
