is in season WINTER IS OFFICIALLY over which means it’s time to take advantage of the Echuca-Moama sunshine. If you’re looking to buy or upgrade your outdoor living, S&J Furniture Echuca have a variety of options to suit any taste with their new season outdoor furniture range. “We’ve got some exciting new products coming through that we’re looking forward to showing off that are a little bit different,” S&J Furniture’s Karl Bauer said.

One of their newest additions is the Willem Outdoor Lounge/Dining combo. It boasts an aluminium frame with woven polypropylene ropes and a textured glass finish. The set is defined by its durability as well as its clean and appealing look. The Winston Outdoor Lounge set will also turn a few heads with its aluminium frame, resin wicker and aluminium tabletop. “The aluminium top rather than the glass is something we expect to be appealing,” Karl said. The classic Dallas nine piece outdoor dining range is set to make its return. Its strong Karri Gum timber frame and granite inlay has been a fan favourite on the Australian market for the past ten years. S&J Furniture can also advise on how to maintain and care for their outdoor products, so call into 169 Pakenham Street, Echuca to see Karl and the team or visit homemakersfurniture.com.au to view the entire range.

Linen House can make your place a home AS THE EXPRESSION goes “you’ve made your bed so now you have to lie in it”. For most, these words have negative connotations, but when it comes to the new spring collection at Linen House Echuca, you just won’t be able to resist. But if you’re not sure which throw or bed sheets to pick for your home, don’t fret; the team are here to help. According to Linen House PR and marketing assistant Hannah Pastore, texture is all the rage this season. “Texture, texture, texture! Anything with tufting, tassels and a beautiful hand feel. Large-scale florals continue to be a must-have for spring as well as soft pastels with pops of colour,” she said. The business boasts a wide range of products to suit your needs, including customer favourites. “Our cotton chenille quilt cover sets are adored by many, mostly due to being an easy-going transition from winter to spring,” she said. “We have two new colourways of our Haze tufted chenille — just arrived in store. Our Winton sheet range is also super-popular — quality fabric at an attractive price-point.” The team also provides a range of throws to go with those quilt cover sets.

“Including our newly arrived Eddie and Merricks throws. Eddie comes in three irresistible colourways with bohemianstyle tassels. Merricks in blush and blue is soft and textural with a vintage-chic style.”

“If you purchase quality sheets, you shouldn’t really have to repurchase unless you're up for a colour update,” she said.

“Always check the label to see what the fabric is made of. Anything made from a natural fibre is of good quality. But it’s not just choosing the right Once you’ve chosen your fibre, products; the team also give expert thread count is another factor to advice on what to do to make your note, but a high thread-count doesn’t house a home. You'll always know — nothing looks worse than a sad flat thing on the bed. Not even the most alluring quilt cover set can help that. It’s essential to look out for good quality sheets as well.

“Our Reed towels walk out the door — made from high-quality 550 GSM cotton, these are superabsorbent and so soft on the skin,” she said. “Pure linen napery is what we’re loving at the moment for our dining areas as well as jute placemats for a textural appeal.” Linen House is the place to go for all your linen and homeware needs and they can be found at 136 Hare St, Echuca or contacted on 5480 3987.

Wal k the wal k in your own home IF YOU’RE looking for a floorplan that flows — well nothing flows better than a themed finish. From the front door to the bathroom and laundry. And nothing does that more effectively and cost efficiently than vinyl planks or hybrid floating floors. Think about every high-traffic corner of your home — from entrance through to the kitchen, family rooms, dining, laundry, bathrooms, little boy’s and girl’s rooms; everywhere — and you are thinking vinyl planks and/or hybrid floating floors. They look spectacular, they feel fantastic underfoot, are so much cheaper than carpet or ceramic tiles and best of all it’s almost impossible to stain them, so easy to clean them and in the most unlikely of events, you need to replace one, then you can simply remove just one, drop in the new one and defy anyone to see where the change was made. Rich River Flooring Xtra’s Jacqui McMurdo said theming your flooring beautifully ties your home together. Jacqui said their versatility is the key — and that comes at the right price.

She said maintenance was just as easy as the vinyl/hybrid can be spot cleaned or cleaned with damp mop as required. “When you are looking at your flooring budget using vinyl/hybrid lets you go with carpet in bedrooms and turn to a product that will last for decades as your alternative — and be amazed how much further your budget will stretch,” Jacqui said. “If you wanted the best water-resistant flooring, these are the products that must top your short list,” she said. “It gives you the absolute best of wood — visual impact combined with being waterproof, scratch resistant, stain resistant and dent resistant. “Hybrid rigid core gives you that one extra step — the look and feel of natural wood plus the knowledge your new floors will hold up brilliantly in high-traffic or high-moisture areas.” As with luxury vinyl, rigid core flooring is 100 per cent waterproof, and that means planks won’t suck up the spilt fluid and then swell or buckle and be beyond repair, making it perfect in your wet areas. “The wear layer that comes with both products protects against everyday

wear and is super easy to keep clean and maintain over time. “And remember, most homes will also be subject to the kid factor during the day (think pets also) so can handle the toughest and then at night when the little ones are asleep and the adults come out to live it up, traditional perils such as high heels, dropped objects, spilt drinks and

heavy furniture being hauled around mean nothing. “Because your floor is people proof, pet proof, party proof and price preferable.” To see all the products and get advice on how you can improve your flooring, contact the friendly team at Shop 4, 53–55 McMillan Road, Echuca or call 5480 6130.

Spring into gardening with Kennaugh’s ARE YOU stuck for some original ideas on how to improve your backyard this spring?

And right now anything that cuts down on water usage is environmentally friendly.

The solution is staring you in the face — and comes with the minimum of fuss.

When it comes to lashings of colour across your garden beds, petunias, snapdragons, marigolds and geraniums are the perfect plants to brighten up things after the winter dormancy.

Simply drop into Kennaugh’s Garden Centre on Cornelia Creek Rd and check out the creative ideas it has to help you keep the good times growing. Starting with Kennaugh’s new line of metal garden edging, it’s ideal for helping you define that new season garden bed. The choice of a flexi or hard-line metal edging means you can be as creative as you like when shaping your garden — and can achieve an immediate weathered steel effect, for that rustic look, or perhaps you might prefer the galvanised option. As we move into the drier months, from a too-dry winter, synthetic turf suddenly starts to have a lot of appeal.

Kennaugh’s also has you covered — inside as well as out. Its huge range of indoor and outdoor plants will fill any gap you might have in your overall plan. Take the monstera for example — harking back to that need for water. It is possibly the best plant you can choose for forgetful green thumbs who sometimes overlook watering their plants. This is a plant that doesn’t drink much, so when you do water, do it sparingly.

Kennaugh’s is already stocking a range of heat resistant turf, which stops you from getting hot underfoot.

Last, but far from least, if your alfresco ambience could do with a bit of a smarten up there is an ideal answer at Kennaugh’s, particularly its wicker collection.

If you’re looking for turf, but worried about your carbon-footprint, Kennaugh’s also has a range of green turf made from sugarcane and recycled materials.

For more helpful firsthand tips on how to make the grass greener on your side of the fence, drop in to Kennaugh’s Garden Centre.

This new premium landscape solution is made from 60 per cent renewable resources, with all the characteristics of a synthetic grass but are more environmentally friendly.

If you can’t find your answers there you simply aren’t trying hard enough because nothing could be easier than a one-stop shop.

Coolabah Turf’s tips AS THE days get a little longer — and warmer, it is time to step outside and give your lawn the TLC it needs. If the winter weeds are refusing to leave, or the mowers won’t start, don’t stress. Coolabah Turf on McSwain Rd have some turf-tips and tricks for this spring. How do I know when my lawn is healthy? Check for compaction. To see how your soil is holding up and whether compaction is a problem, grab a long screwdriver and plunge it into the ground in a few places to see how far it will penetrate. You should be able to easily push it in (4–6 inches) without too much resistance and if not, it would serve your lawn well to look at aeration to remedy the problem. Aeration helps increase the amount of air, water and nutrients getting to the soil, which strengthens grass roots and help create a healthier lawn.

What is the best way to remove winter weeds from my lawn? You can remove most single weeds by hand, preferably before they go to seed. Mow over flat weeds; a healthy lawn will choke most weed types. If you’ve got many weeds or a persistent type, feel free to call your local lawn

company to get some advice on the best herbicides to use. A product like Oxafert is effective to help eradicate weed issues before they turn to seed and potentially spread and cause further ongoing weed problems.

When should I fertilise my lawn? Spring is the time to fertilise. This helps speed up new growth and establish strong roots for summer. If you live in a cooler climate, you might need to use a liquid fertiliser, as your soil temperature may not be quite warm enough for the bacteria to work its magic for a soil borne reaction using a granular fertiliser. As liquid fertilisers are ingested through the leaves of your grass, you’ll only need a little growth occurring for the liquid fertilisers to give an instant boost. Once the warmer weather really kicks in (hopefully only a couple of weeks away now!) you can feed your lawn with a granular NPK fertiliser like Lawn Solutions

Australia fertiliser. But don’t get carried away. You want to be rid of weeds first before feeding them as well. Overfeeding at this time of year may not produce the desired results, with the warmth and light intensity not quite there yet for your lawn to perform its best. A light dusting of either organic or inorganic fertiliser at the specified label rate will give your lawn the boost it needs. It’s a good idea to mow a few times first, assess the weed and lawn growth situation and then further address fertiliser needs.

How do I look after my mower? Chances are that like your lawn, your mower has been sitting dormant for a few months. Do yourself and your mower a favour and treat it to a little attention before pulling the starter cord repetitively until you’re both out of puff. A bit of basic maintenance can go a long way here and

changing fuel, oil and the spark-plug can help keep your machine running smoothly for years. If you baulk at the thought of home-mechanics then there are many mower shops around that will, for a small fee, have your mower tuned and ready to go; but get in early in the season before they get over-run with work. Sharp blades are another important piece of mower maintenance. A new set of blades, or if you’re a dab-hand with the grinder, a touch-up can do wonders.

Cleaning up and raking away debris Now is the time to clear away any leaves, branches and other debris that may have accumulated on your lawn during winter. Almost like a spring clean of your home, you want to move any objects that have been stationary for a while (trampolines for example) and allow your lawn to breathe.
