By Anne Ternus-Bellamy McNaughton Media Teachers and agricultural workers are among those now eligible for COVID-19 vaccination at Yolo County clinics. The county announced Tuesday that while large healthcare providers in the county are not yet expanding eligibility to essential workers in Phase 1B, Tier 1, the county will be doing so effective this week. Previously the county was providing vaccines only for healthcare workers and those 65 and over, but many have been pressuring the county to move farmworkers and teachers, among others, into the eligible pool. The county will now do so, beginning by offering a limited number of appointments this week for frontline workers who live or work in Yolo County, with more clinics to be announced next week. The newly eligible group includes those who work in education, childcare, emergency services, and the food and agricultural industries. The county’s announcement said anyone in those groups could register for this Saturday’s clinic in Woodland using the link on the county’s vaccine webpage, www.

yolocounty.org/coronavirus-vaccine or by calling 2-1-1. However, the link indicated the clinic was sold out as of noon on Tuesday. More clinics will be scheduled. Dignity Health and Yolo County will also partner on specialized clinics to quickly vaccinate teachers and school staff already in the classroom or on campus along with emergency services personnel, including law enforcement. For agricultural workers, the county will conduct a pilot vaccine clinic for 200 workers at a local farm in Yolo County on Wednesday. Following the pilot, additional agricultural worker clinics will be scheduled at various worksites. Yolo County has at least 19,000 frontline workers in the education, childcare, emergency services, and food and agricultural industries, so how quickly the vaccine timeline goes will be reliant on the supply of vaccine doses from the California Department of Public Health. “For this reason, the county asks for continued patience at this time during the vaccine rollout,” the county press release said. School district staff and administrators continue preparations for the return to in-person learning, pending when Yolo County is placed in the red tier. Winters Joint Unified School District Superintendent Diana Jiménez sent out a message to Winters JUSD families to update them on preparations happening on school grounds to create classroom environments in line with county and state guidelines. Desks have been fitted with dividers and learning areas have been adjusted to fit the updated Jan. 14 California Department of Public Health guidance. Winters PD seeking info on burglary at Subway eatery By Rick von Geldern Express staff writer The Winters Subway sandwich shop was broken into during the early morning hours of Monday, Feb. 8 incurring damaged property and stolen cash. Owner Peter Malhi was awakened at home at 4 a.m. by a telephone call from ADT advising that his shop’s alarm had triggered. Malhi said the police were notified and when he arrived at the shop he found a window had been broken where the burglar gained entry. The shop and other nearby businesses are equipped with video cameras. Winters Police Chief John P. Miller said his detectives are investigating and reviewing additional evidence. Malhi said his shop’s video footage depicted a sole male suspect parking at the nearby

Dollar General, walking over to Subway and breaking a window to gain entry. The store’s alarm system was triggered and the video revealed that the suspect remained inside for about five minutes. Upon arriving at the store, Malhi found the cash register on the floor, the floor safe pried open and cash missing. Malhi said he has since enhanced his security system. “Be aware, we’re all struggling though a hard time. If you see something suspicious, call the police,” warned Malhi. Since taking over the Subway franchise in July 2019, Malhi has been a noted community supporter. As previously reported in the Express, Malhi matched hundreds of meals donated by local customers to fire-

By Anne Ternus-Bellamy McNaughton Media The 35,000 Yolo County residents who have filled out the county’s online vaccine interest form will now have to do the same on the state’s vaccine registration and notification site. The state is requiring all counties and healthcare providers to use the MyTurn system, which allows residents statewide to register for an email or text notification to inform them when they are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. Eventually the system will also allow residents, when eligible, to book an appointment for a vaccine. The state first launched the MyTurn registration system as a pilot

project in Los Angeles and San Diego counties and is now in the process of expanding to all county and healthcare vaccine providers. The system will also allow vaccine providers to input data immediately, giving a real-time look at the number of shots administered regionally and statewide while also allowing for a centralized notification system, the county said in a press release Friday. Yolo County launched its own COVID-19 vaccine interest form on Jan. 19, before the establishment of the MyTurn system. Since that time, approximately 35,000 residents have registered in the county system.
