The City gave kudos to Winters firefighters and paramedics at the Feb. 1 City Council meeting. Fire Chief Brad L. Lopez advised of successful lifesaving efforts by the department’s firefighters and American Medical Response (AMR) paramedics. Lopez said a patient collapsed in his home and was given advance life support treatment by firefighters and paramedics before being transported to the hospital where he was later reported to be conscious and talking. Lopez said this was a great outcome and testament to the great frontline responders that Winters is fortunate to have. “Kudos to our team and our partners out there, it’s really good to hear this person has another chance,” Lopez said. City Manager Kathleen Salguero Trepa added that the three firefighters who responded to the call

Ordinance 202201 was approved, amending the city’s municipal code regarding compliance with the Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance (MWELO). By doing so, it imposes water efficient landscape requirements on new and rehabilitated landscaping projects for public and private development projects requiring a permit. But Yolo County was still operating under the traditional model during the March 2020 presidential primary and had 96 polling places open on Election Day where residents could cast their votes.

Months later, due to the pandemic, the county replaced those traditional polling locations with Voter Assistance Centers for the November 2020 presidential election and did so again for the 2021 gubernatorial recall election. For both elections, all active registered voters had vote-by-mail ballots delivered to them that they could mail

Health officer unsure of when Yolo indoor mask mandate will lift By Anne Ternus-Bellamy McNaughton Media While the state plans to lift its indoor mask mandate for vaccinated residents effective Feb. 15, Yolo County’s health officer has not yet made a decision on whether to lift the county’s own mandate. Under the local health order, everybody is required to

wear a mask in indoor public settings regardless of vaccination status. Health Officer Dr. Aimee Sisson issued the order in July and said she intended to lift the order when the daily COVID-19 case rate fell below two per 100,000 residents for seven consecutive days. The county’s daily case rate has fallen by 60 percent since it
