Yolo County Library plans to resume service Aug. 14 By Crystal Apilado Editor-in-Chief The Yolo County Library plans to start up services at their library branches again started on Friday, Aug. 14. Mark Fink, County Library, said following the immediate suspension of services on Aug. 4 after learning one of its staff may have

been exposed to COVID-19. “Staff have been self-quaranining, and the branches impacted were deepcleaned last week,” Fink said. He also said they had adjusted staff schedules so staff will now work at a single facility as a means to prevent another system-wide incident.

Investigation determines target shooting as cause of Quail Fire By Crystal Apilado Editor-in-Chief Investigators have determined that the cause of the June 2020 Quail Fire was target shooting. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection’s investigators, who were dispatched as part of the initial response to the Quail Fire, uncovered evidence that target shooting sparked the fire to life on June 06, according to a Cal FIRE media release on Monday. The Quail Fire burned 1,837 acres over a period of four day before it was fully contained. Its blaze destroyed one home

He weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce at birth, and measured 21.25 inches in length. John is another Gem of the Nelson family of Winters who is loved by his grandparents Jill & Josh Nelson, his great-grand parents Darlene Kovach & Chuck Frey, and all family soon to meet him.

Future subscriber : Josefina Victoria Buttler Villalobos Cecilia Villalobos and Jerry Buttler announce the birth of their first born daughter Josefina Victoria Buttler Villalobos. Josefina arrived on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 12:04 p.m. at the Kaiser Hospital in Roseville. She weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces at birth and measured 21 inches in length. Her Maternal grandparents are Jorge and Esther Villalobos of Winters, and Maternal great- grand parents are Anacleta Lopez y Epigmenio Garcia of Mexico. Paternal grandparents are Jan Buttler and Jim Buttler (deceased) of Davis, and Great-grandparents are Barbara and Martin Stipp from Davis (both deceased).

The Winters Hispanic Advisory Committee is collaborating in a joint-fundraising effort with ApoYOLO and the Interfaith Immigration Network to raise funding to support local families in the Spanish community. Since 2006, the Winters HAC has contributed to the Winters community through its volunteering, selflessness and communal values. The arrival of COVID-19, however, has put a halt to the annual event like it has to so many others. But instead of standing down, the Winters HAC has turned the pandemic into an opportunity to further support their community. President Rudolph Muldong and Trustee Rob Warren expressed being able to meet in person improves the quality of the meeting. Muldong also noted it helps to relay unspoken communication through

body language and expressions, which are hidden through virtual meetings and may cause misunderstandings when unable to observe. Warren said he would like to see the district’s technology team figure out a way to allow the community to observe meetings, but not have the ability to interrupt a meeting in progress. “If we can’t control the meeting then I don’t want to do Zoom meetings anymore,” Warren said. “People get really comfortable

sitting at home, and we get people making comments like they did.” Trustees Carrie Green and Stephanie Chávez voiced concerns about not allowing the public to participate live. By Rodney Orosco Staff Writer The Winters City Council hopes to fill the now vacant city manager’s job by November, according to Mayor Wade Cowan. The council has hired the Roseville executive search firm Peckham and McKenney to find the next city leader and they will pay the firm up to $26,000, Cowan said. Peckham and McKenney was the firm that found John W. Donlevy, Jr., the former Winters city manager.
