DA forms task force to investigate deadly force by law enforcement

FairField — district attorney Krishna abrams has announced the formation of the solano county Major crimes task Force to investigate the “use of deadly force by law enforcement officers.”

“this initiative has been a vision of mine for many years now,” abrams said in a statement that was released after her formal announce- AbrAms ment nov. 12. the task force, described in the statement as one of the first of its kind in the state, will immediately engage after any deadly force incident. the district attorney will have CArli final oversight over the findings.

“ i ncidents involving the use of deadly force can be traumatic for everyone involved, and especially for the families of those who have lost williAms a loved one and to the involved officers. with this task force in place, every community member of solano county can have confidence that these serious investigations will be conducted in a full, fair, independent and impartial manner,” abrams said in the statement. this task force will provide a consistent response to any officer’s use of deadly force, the statement said, “which aims to treat the officer fairly and promote public confidence in our criminal justice system.” abrams has come under a lot of criticism for her response to officer-involved shootings in Vallejo. Family and friends of several of those individuals killed have frequently protested outside the county government center in downtown Fairfield where abrams’ office is located on the fourth floor. the hiring of one of those Vallejo officers, dustin Joseph, by the Fairfield police department, and a subsequent

FairField — Jehovah’s witnesses worldwide are distributing the issue of the watchtower magazine titled “what is God’s Kingdom?” throughout november. the answer to that question has captivated the attention of people from many different faiths for centuries.

Jehovah’s witnesses is distributing the magazine to the general public, business owners, local and national government officials as well as court officials. the campaign has proceeded using methods investigation that cleared the officer of any wrongdoing, led to a protest at last week’s city council meeting at which nine people were arrested on misdemeanor allegations of disrupting that meeting.

“i am fully aware that the Vallejo police department and law enforcement in general have a lot of work to do when it comes to building trust and relationships with our communities. However, i believe that this task force is a major milestone for the communities and my department,” Vallejo police chief shawny williams said as part of the district attorney’s statement. the task force will “conduct investigations to determine presence or absence of criminal liability on the part of all those involved in the incident. the criminal investigation will take precedence over the administrative investigation, which will be done by the department where the incident occurred,” the statement said. the task force will be comprised of a supervising investigator from the district attorney’s Office, as well as single detectives from the Vallejo, Vacaville and Fairfield police departments, and one from the solano county sheriff’s Office. additionally, three half-time investigators from the benicia, dixon and suisun city departments will participate.

“Our communities expect the very best of us. i hope and many of my colleagues hope that this task force does go a long way to further public trust,” Vacaville chief John carli said. “that said, the reason we are doing this, isn’t for some reason that is somehow trust was ever eroded, but it’s everincreasing that what we need to do is to focus on what it is that is going to produce the best outcome

Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz. ‘American Pickers’ plans to film in California, seeks sites to ‘pick’

FairField — Mike wolfe, Frank Fritz and their team plan to return to california in december to film episodes of the television series “american pickers” – and they are looking for sites to visit. cast and crew will employ safety measures to prevent the transmission of the novel coronavirus that causes covid-19, according to a press release to announce drnews@dailyrepublic.net

VacaVille — the covid-19 pandemic is forcing changes to the annual thanksgiving and christmas eve meals program offered by the Vacaville Veterans. this year, no meals will be served at the Veterans Memorial building, the veterans groups announced. instead, all meals will either be delivered between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. thanksgiving day if pre-ordered, or curbside pickup will be available from 12:30 to 3 p.m. as long as food is available. the veterans groups involved are the american legion post 165 and the auxiliary; american Veterans post 1776; disabled american Veterans chapter 84; and Veterans of Foreign wars post 7244 and the auxiliary. the veterans hall hours are from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through wednesday to make donations or to schedule deliveries or curbside pickup.

“as usual, we will be accepting donations of turkeys, hams, rolls, desserts or money during those hours,” the announcement said.
