VACAVILLE — Co-valedictorian Jadyn White compared the past couple of years of high school on Saturday to a famous movie quote, “Life is like a box of chocolates,” she said, “but it is a mixed box.” The years have been full of bitter chocolates that people would put down if they could, such as wildfires, a global pandemic and not being able to use their own stadium for football games, instead using another school’s stadium. But the graduates of Vacaville High School had good chocolates, too. “We got a lot of strength and motivation to surpass See Vacaville, Page A12

VACAVILLE — A hush came over the overflowing crowd of 4,000 at Wildcat Stadium as Will C. Wood High School senior Breanna Dagen sang an emotional “I’ll Always Remember You” by Alexander Jessi Leigh and Scherr Mitchell Allen. One of the lyrics said, “Yester-
day’s gone, and we have to keep moving on.” The 380 graduates of Will C. Wood and their family and friends were more than happy to “keeping moving on.” Senior Class President Allie Yaws said, “We have been through so much, from the riots, to the pandemic, through tragedy and losses, and so much more.” See Wood, Page A12

VACAVILLE — Annalisa Galvan admits she had a bit of an attitude problem when she was attending the Public Safety Academy. She let that attitude spill over one afternoon and lost her sergeant’s stripes as the result. To get them back, plus a promotion to lieutenant, Galvan for six months worked in the lunchroom serving some of the same students she had berated. Now Galvan is headed to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. See Speakers, Page A12

A. Gammon Field, but none got more of a reaction, particularly from parents, than a comment about cellphones. “Turn off your phones,” Hulett said to laughter. “Human connection is important. Give people your full attention. It will make life even sweeter.” Hullett was one of the 369 Vikings earning diplomas on an overcast morning that did little to dampen the spirits of all. They were dressed in green robes with matching green mortar boards and gold tassels. One student, Daniel Hughes, was among the graduates in spirit, having received an honorary diploma. Hughes was shot and killed in April 2021 at the age of 17. His name was called See Vanden, Page A12
